0:00 now the first time we checked out the Pelican 1065 hardback case which is an
0:04 iPad case or 10-in tablets case was at CES but this is our first time having a
0:09 chance to really look at it Hands-On and
0:13 yeah we're going to stress test it so I brought along this is my personal iPad 2
0:17 so I am actually like super hoping that
0:21 uh this case survives the stress test I've got the brightness turned way down
0:24 so uh you guys probably can't even see that it's a working iPad but uh
0:30 there you go working iPad so uh no scratches or dents of any sort of
0:35 reasonable level because I have a snug case which I absolutely love by the way
0:39 uh but that's a slim case this is more like uh an extreme ruggedized dust proof
0:44 watertight Crush proof legendary Pelican lifetime guarantee case so it's got an
0:49 easy open latch which is sealed shut under pressure and impact a foam liner
0:53 which has a unique mold to protect iPads and tablets and a watertight gasket
0:56 around the outside which has a Tight Seal when the case is shut the automatic
1:00 purge valve keeps water and dust out while balancing air pressure and it is
1:04 tested for impacts up to 3 ft and submersion to 3 ft now I suspect it'll
1:09 survive just looking at having seen the case already in person I suspect it'll
1:13 survive a drop of more than 3 feet to be perfectly honest but there's only one
1:18 way to find out crazy crazy unboxing so there you go
1:23 let's have a look at the case itself it's Pelican so you know it's awesome
1:27 it's a nice strong plastic it has kind of a Hollow sound to it because there's
1:31 nothing inside there's that purge valve
1:34 here's the latch that has kind of a two-stage latch so it's one two just
1:40 like that okay so we're going to try and open this up if I can actually figure
1:43 out how to do it uh okay what else we got here oh yeah
1:48 rugged hinges so like five pieces of
1:51 overlapping this and then there's a little feet here so you can put it down
1:54 on stuff I don't know all right let's see if I can ah yes there we go so it
1:58 had kind of a a bit of a seal going on so thank you for purchasing Pelican uh
2:02 they sent me this one so I didn't actually purchase it but there you go
2:06 Pelican protector case and the storm case care and instructions so you know
2:09 make sure that you maintain your o-ring and don't let
2:13 it become sort of cracked and and and let it go bad over time because that
2:18 will not be a good thing so speaking of the O-ring the O-ring seal is right here
2:22 and is actually more like a instead of like a rubber it's more like a a
2:26 neoprene like in terms of what the material feels like so what you can see
2:31 is that uh rather than having like a a a
2:34 flat surface against a rubber o-ring it's more like an indented surface here
2:39 against like a neoprene seal so this should actually be very very waterproof
2:44 and then the pieces here are going to prevent the screen from getting
2:47 scratched or anything else like that so let's go ahead and chck the tablet
2:50 inside I wonder if it'll fit with the snug case oh look at that you don't even
2:54 have to take off your uh like you don't
2:57 have to take off your regular day-to-day case although I don't think it sealed
3:01 100% when it was like that so here we go let's take it out of there so this is my
3:05 pristine 16 gig iPad which I really really hope I'm not about to break so
3:10 we'll go ahead and put that in there does it go in a particular way uh
3:14 doesn't really look like it all right so we're going to leave
3:19 that on and I'm going to cross my fingers that the things we're about to
3:23 do to it do not destroy it we'll be back
3:27 I have to confess the shaking is inside
3:30 doesn't really Inspire confidence to the extent that I would normally have with a
3:34 pelican product but here we go here's a 3ft drop
3:39 test okay
3:42 so the tablet survived our 3 foot drop
3:46 test let me do a four foot drop
3:49 test we're going right we're going right for the corner here we're going for the
3:52 goods you guys so uh actually here you can see what happened to the corner on
3:56 it last time if you want to check that out so that's our three-foot drop test
3:59 let's go ahead and hit it again four feet all
4:06 right okay yeah okay no cracks no uh no
4:10 no damage of any sort inside got some grass in here that's probably a you know
4:15 additional impact resistance okay so
4:18 I've had a lot of people ask how tall I am especially in the context of how I'm
4:22 a lot shorter than slick so we're going to do a 5 foot 6 in drop test because
4:26 that's how tall I am ready
4:30 okay all right well the latch hasn't come open which was the problem we had
4:35 with our Otterbox iPhone case and you can see that our tablet has indeed
4:40 survived however when we dropped it from
4:44 that height you can see that we did get some wear on this corner right here so
4:50 as much as it was perfect for the 3ot
4:53 and the 4ot drop test sorry I might be too close to the camera for them to see
4:57 that so there you go that's what the uh the wear on that corner looks like so I
5:01 would have liked to see this case a little bit more um a little bit more
5:05 padded right around the edges so you can actually see the spot where that corner
5:09 impacted but other than that it did keep the screen from cracking it did keep it
5:14 from being damaged and I mean the case is waterproof so if we were to say for
5:18 example I don't I don't really want to dig it out of this puddle so I'm not
5:22 going to do that but uh don't forget to subscribe to L's Tech tips for unboxings
5:27 reviews and other iPad tossing videos
5:35 I mean that that probably wouldn't break it even actually that probably would break a tablet wouldn't it we can do one
5:39 more let's do iPad bowling here we
5:48 go I mean that's the kind of thing that would break your tablet and that's the
5:51 kind of thing that I would expect to you know we should drop it right on the
5:56 hinge no okay the hinge because of its double lock actually doesn't have any
6:00 problems cool okay yeah survived that's good see screen's still on still works
