0:01 all right well it's been a little while since I've unboxed a 2 and 1/2 in SSD
0:05 but the reality of it is there hasn't really been anything new to talk about
0:09 so today I have something that is new to talk about this is a new capacity of
0:13 vertex 2 from ocz okay that's not what's new about it
0:17 it features the sand Force controller with reads up to 285 Megs per second and
0:22 wres up to 275 Megs per second that's
0:25 also not new and it features 25 NM flash
0:29 that's new so 25 NM flash is the reason
0:33 why this capacity is different from the other ones 25 NM means higher densities
0:38 and it also means more potential for errors so ocz had to really tweak and
0:43 rework the firmware this is a natural progression as the as the flash gets to
0:48 be higher and higher density there becomes more potential for
0:52 there to be mistakes when you're writing to it so they had to work in extra
0:56 capacity that's built in for error correction as well well as make some
1:00 tweaks to the firmware in order to make the sand Force controller work with the
1:05 25 NM flash so that was pretty much it
1:10 um if all you wanted to know is what is
1:13 the difference between the new vertex 2
1:17 ssds and the old ones so the new ones are in capacities like say for example
1:21 80 gig and 160 gig and the old ones are
1:25 in capacities like 60120 and 240 so if
1:28 you wanted to know what the difference differ is the difference is 25 NM versus
1:32 34 nanm Flash and obviously a different
1:36 firmware because they are using different flash but the performance is
1:41 pretty much the same the reliability is pretty much the same because of the hard
1:45 work that San force and ocz do on their products to make sure that they don't
1:50 die speaking of not dying uh let me just
1:53 double check here but I'll let you guys know what the warranty is for this
1:58 particular Drive last time I checked I think it was 2
2:03 years we're going to have to check that I think there's a card inside that tells
2:06 us actually oh here's something new on their packaging Mac check that out so
2:10 this SSD is completely Windows Andor Mac compatible oh yeah if you want to see
2:15 the general specs here it is zoomed in you can pause that and read that if you
2:19 want to so that's the full specs other than that they haven't changed the
2:23 packaging much it still includes a 2 and 1/2 in to 3 and 1/2 in drive adapter I
2:28 don't see any screws so I hope you have some screws included with your case you
2:32 probably do okay so that just goes in there slips into the back of the foam
2:38 packaging and on the other side we find a couple things first my SSD is faster
2:43 than your HDD that is hard disk drive or solid state drive and yes yes it is it's
2:49 faster than any hard dis drive out there
2:52 all right here we are warranty
2:57 stuff okay epitomize a new Vanguard of quality products warranted test conform
3:03 to okay duration 3 years okay there we go three years on the vertex 2 there's
3:07 the screws okay so that's all the screws you'll need for mounting the drive with
3:11 the adapter so if you don't have a case like the fractal design to find R3 or
3:17 any other case that has 2 and 1/2 in Drive mounts then you will need to use
3:22 that adapter and you can use that to mounted anywhere a 3 and 1/2 in drive
3:26 would go so we'll have a look at the SSD itself which looks pretty much the same
3:32 as any other vertex 2 SSD from ocz you got your standard SATA 2 remember this
3:36 is still SATA 2 interface there's your data there's your power here's some uh
3:40 oh looks like there were some jumper pins there but they are not part of the
3:44 final design and then here we've got
3:48 okay rated for DC 5 volt some Do not
3:52 drop do not press be careful with it basically warranty boy if remove so
3:56 don't try and remove the uh covering from it you got your standard mounting
3:59 holes on the side and the bottom so this is going to be compatible with pretty
4:02 much any laptop out there as well I actually actually recently installed an
4:06 SSD in a laptop for my ant which I unboxed it was a Sony VIO a little while
4:10 back so thank you for checking out my unboxing of the new all new and improved
4:15 ocz vertex 2 25 Nom so that is 80 gig
4:19 and 160 gig right now and who knows what else is coming because one of the big
4:23 improvements with higher density flash is that we're going to see bigger
4:27 capacities and lower prices over the next uh coming
