0:00 so today as part of my retro unboxing series I'm going to be unboxing the
0:05 Intel Desktop Board d850 MD this is for
0:10 the Intel Pentium 4 processor technology for The Cutting Edge of the internet so
0:16 this product is uh definitely engineered
0:19 to make the best use of The Cutting Edge of the internet okay so that means that
0:24 it includes
0:27 Lan Intel Pro 100 land connection Norton
0:31 Internet Security soundmax with SPX
0:34 audio and four back panel USB 1.1 ports
0:39 check that out it also has NTI CD maker
0:42 2000 this product is intended to be professionally installed so um unless
0:48 you're a professional don't install it I guess is what they're trying to say okay
0:52 so it the d850 MD combines solid
0:56 performance with support for Intel Pentium 4 processors in in the 478 pin
1:01 socket designed with the Intel 850 chipset harnesses the full bandwidth and
1:06 performance of Rd RAM memory into a microatx form factor awesome so R dims
1:13 that means we've got support for dual rambus Channels with four RDM sockets
1:18 for pc800 and PC 600 Rd RAM up to 2 gab
1:23 okay we have a communication and networking Riser support an AGP
1:27 connector Intel rapid bio boot Ultra
1:31 fast ATA 100 that's pretty Ultra fast
1:35 and then we have three PCI slots okay is there anything else on here that could
1:39 be relevant no I don't think so why
1:43 don't we go ahead and get this baby open
1:47 you can see it's got like some some cool
1:50 text on the front about 400 MHz front
1:53 side bus yeah the front side bus is is dead
1:57 and gone okay so inside find an IO Shield which looks very much like the io
2:02 Shields that we have today then we have an Intel Desktop Board I'll say the
2:07 usual thing even though I don't know how applicable it is you should download the
2:10 latest drivers off the Intel website uh
2:13 if they still have drivers available for this board you can see that the sticker
2:17 is actually a little bit yellowed like for for context there's something white
2:21 next to it so uh this gives us the general layout of the motherboard I
2:25 can't tell which way is actually up maybe it's this way yeah there we go so
2:30 uh Rim connector secondary IDE primary
2:33 IDE AGP socket okay that's pretty good next
2:38 we have the quick reference guide oo
2:43 interesting installing the io Shield H I don't know how much
2:47 interesting stuff is going to be in here maybe something about the warranty so I
2:51 can talk about how the warranty is definitely gone H it's in a few
2:55 different languages okay let's lose that we'll have a look at the board itself
2:58 shortly okay we've got a couple of ID cables and one floppy cable there's the
3:02 floppy cable oo gray cables how veryy '90s
3:06 and we've got a couple of IDE cables ah
3:09 high-tech okay so you can see one of the IDE cables is an 80 Pin cable that means
3:15 that one out of every two of these cables are actually just uh blanks
3:19 they're ground cables and those are intended to uh prevent interference from
3:23 one cable to the next so that's for high-speed ATA 100 connections whereas
3:28 this for Optical drives is a 40 pin connector so even though they have the
3:33 same connection they um this one's not optimized for low interference there
3:38 there's your um oh I don't know what this is I haven't seen this before this
3:43 is actually a little bit before my day to be perfectly honest with you so I'm
3:48 not going to be able to provide quite the amount of insight that I would
3:52 normally be able to with a retro unboxing because this is too retro even
3:57 for me so okay oh okay this was mentioned on the front of the box so
4:01 this is some kind of um like fastener
4:05 for the AGP card see normally we have these built-in these days but this seems
4:10 to be like a like a not built-in one so you put it onto the onto the connector
4:15 or something okay I'm not going to force it because even though it's old I don't really want to break it okay so let's
4:20 see what do we got we got a socket 478 supporting The Cutting Edge Pentium 4
4:25 internet processor then we've got four
4:28 um
4:32 I'm going to cheat what is this for yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah sorry four
4:37 Rd RAM slot supporting dual Channel 20
4:41 pin ATX connector there's your floppy connector two ID connectors for up to
4:47 four hard drives uh presumably supporting raid but you know what aboard
4:52 this old no probably not probably no rate support okay and then we've got ah
4:57 an internal USB header so you can hook up Cutting Edge front USB and then
5:02 you've got a fan header a motherboard battery and then some jumpers that's
5:07 probably clear seos that says config maybe it's to config the BIOS I don't
5:12 know what this is and I don't know what
5:15 this is that's okay then we have three PCI slots because this is well before
5:20 PCI Express took off and an AGP slot so
5:24 that means that we can hook up our Cutting Edge directex 9 or seven or
5:28 eight graphics card then we have a North Bridge um chipset cooler which seems to
5:34 have like a hold down on it so that oh that comes off so you can actually let
5:39 me see well I mean you know it's not like anyone's going to care if I damage
5:43 this thing so I'll just there we go okay so you can actually take off the
5:46 Northbridge heat sink that easily and let's have a look at the date on this
5:51 chip here you can see that it is marked Intel 00 so this is from 2000 that's
5:58 when that chip was manufactured very cool very uh very internet Cutting Edge
6:04 okay so um let's see what else we've got on this motherboard here we've got an
6:08 Intel P4 connector that's a four pin connector and then I think that pretty
6:13 much takes care of what we've got on the top of the board now here's the I/O
6:18 panel we've got a PS2 keyboard and mouse two USB 1.1 ports a couple serial ports
6:24 a printer port haven't seen one of those in a while a couple more USB 1.1 ports
6:29 there that's your internet connection very cool how highte and then we've got
6:35 support for I believe they're saying 5.1
6:38 audio no ac97 I don't think that is even
6:41 configurable to 5.1 so there's mic and then line out and then uh speakers
6:47 excellent thank you for checking out
