0:00 the world was shocked when the iPhone 7
0:03 and 7 plus burst onto the scene completely devoid of nonproprietary
0:08 ports with only a single lightning connector that is to say the parts of
0:13 the world who have completely ignored anything that Apple's done in the last
0:16 couple of years they were shocked anyway
0:20 I've spent my usual few weeks with the latest I shiny and I am ready to talk
0:26 about the experience
0:37 Intel skull Canyon knck features a sixth generation core i7 quad core processor
0:42 and Thunderbolt 3 learn more at the link
0:45 in the video description the iPhone 6s won my 2015
0:51 phone of the Year award for its shocking performance and it would appear as
0:54 though the iPhone 7 is gunning for the same prize it rocks Apple's stunning A10
1:00 Fusion a quadcore design that borrows at least conceptually from the big little
1:05 chips that have been commonplace on Android phones for years in both qualcom
1:10 Snapdragon and Samsung's exos processors
1:14 it features two high performance cores about 40% faster than the A9 if Apple's
1:19 to be believed and two low performance cores that consume only about a fifth of
1:25 the power of the high perf ones and it seems to be working wonderfully the
1:30 iPhone 7 installs apps as quickly as I can download the last one and managed
1:35 with only a moderately larger 1960 mAh
1:39 battery to completely address my ongoing
1:42 complaint about Apple's devices that they have wonderful standby power then
1:48 they drain so fast you can watch your battery bar burn if you have the
1:52 audacity to use GPS to go any further than the corner store as for the rest of
1:57 the specs there's more good news I iPhone users finally get more RAM at 3
2:03 gigs if they get the bigger 7 plus the
2:06 earphone speaker doubles as a serviceable stereo speaker now yay Apple
2:11 used the headphone Jacks space to add a barometer which is neat I guess and you
2:17 can get up to 256 gigs now of regrettably
2:21 non-expandable storage with the 16 gig
2:25 model having finally been asked to make way for 32 gigs on the base model of the
2:31 traditional colors or 64 gigs on the new
2:35 jet black color which I guess is a clever scheme to raise asps by
2:39 convincing status Seekers to buy a higher tier than the base if they want
2:44 their friends to even be able to tell that they have the new one since the
2:48 seven looks externally so similar to its
2:52 predecessor on the subject of other things similar the screen hasn't changed
2:57 much either wide color gamut is a welcome and forward-looking upgrade but
3:03 Apple has stuck with 1080p on the iPhone
3:06 7 plus and 750p on its little brother
3:10 but I support this and even though they
3:13 put the lock and volume directly opposing each other which is a frequent
3:17 gripe of mine they got the tactile feel
3:20 perfect I almost never accidentally pressed one while reaching for the other
3:27 some of the other physical changes though I'm a little more hesitant to
3:31 endorse let's do the solid state home button first I really like this move it
3:37 feels as clicky or subtle as you want
3:40 and like the 2015 MacBook I often forgot
3:43 that it didn't move it will only wear out if the upgraded taptic engine inside
3:48 the phone dies and it improves the Seven's resistance to water and dust the
3:53 only thing missing here is a software update to allow its pressure sensor to
3:58 operate without skin to button contact I
4:02 haven't needed gloves yet this year but as we Canadians say winter is coming
4:08 next up is the IP67 water and dust
4:11 resistance I'm surprised this took so long given that water and Falls account
4:16 for 95% of iPhone deaths but I absolutely
4:20 love this move and customer happiness aside More Alive iPhones is great for
4:26 Apple's trade-in program and refurbished device business business selling a
4:31 product for a margin even a little bit of margin a second time is just plain
4:36 good business leading us to number three
4:40 the removal of the headphone jack I said
4:43 in my Odyssey sign review which you can check out here that if they removed it I
4:48 better be getting something significant in return and honestly especially with
4:52 the waterproofing I think they pulled it off and besides what I've discovered
4:57 from talking to other seven and seven plus owners and trying to keep my own
5:01 mind open is that even my general
5:05 objection to carrying around a stupid adapter put me in a smaller minority of
5:10 general consumers than I previously thought I think my badminton buddy Jason
5:14 put it best when I asked him about it eh I haven't really noticed I use my jbirds
5:18 for everything anyway great wireless bluetooth
5:22 headphones like senheiser pxc 550s are
5:25 everywhere and the little retention doodad like Motorola includes with the
5:29 Droid Z would easily address the issue of losing the included adapter for audio
5:34 file IMS which Won't Go Wireless anytime soon meaning that my only real remaining
5:40 issue is charging and listening to podcasts while I sleep at the same time
5:46 a $15 problem or 25 if I want one that
5:49 also adds volume and track control on to the camera it's simply put
5:56 amazing and I even spent most of my time with the single sensor 7 as opposed to
6:01 the Dual sensor plus it doesn't have Oodles of more megapixel or whatever but
6:07 Apple's color science and auto white balance deliver a much more true- to
6:12 lifee image on Full Auto than I thought was possible and through thirdparty apps
6:18 you can capture Raw photos which is almost like an extra bonus at that point
6:22 low light performance is on point the selfie cam was upgraded and even the app
6:28 launch time is amongst the best that I've seen though Auto Wake screen and
6:33 swipe to the side is still a touch slower than a gesture or a physical
6:38 button that I can press without looking at the device in some
6:43 situations with that said I have much bigger complaints about iOS 10 software
6:49 wise there is some good stuff I'm not sure exactly when it happened but Apple
6:54 Maps has a great UI now Siri still works
6:57 better for me than Okay Google I don't use a ton of widgets but it's swell to
7:02 have the option and force touch continues to improve with notification
7:06 interactions combined with being able to respond within the notification itself
7:10 being my favorite use for it but there are also some glaring emissions and some
7:15 Polish deficiencies dictating while writing an email allows the cursor to
7:20 scroll under where the keyboard would be making it impossible to see what you're
7:24 saying I still find the swipe back gesture very inconsistent one-handed
7:30 operation in general feels bolted on and clunky rather than like a fundamental
7:35 part of iOS's design I'm baffled that the Google Now clone today view thing on
7:40 the left of the home screen doesn't have a working back button when you click on
7:43 a suggested article I don't get the organization of the settings menu
7:48 sometimes the dial pad and phone controls still aren't on the same screen
7:54 adding unnecessary button presses I really missed Samsung's excellent
7:58 magical White pous powered spam and caller ID database I hate how I still
8:05 can't control the cursor precisely on first touch if I have steady hands
8:09 please let me turn off the auto guidance here Android's management of multiple
8:13 volume sliders is much better since it actually allows the ringtone to be
8:18 adjusted while listening to music for example and finally and perhaps most
8:22 importantly where the is T9 dialing
8:26 Apple some of us know a lot of people and this is is an unassailably better
8:32 way to call in frequently used contacts that doesn't interfere with any of the
8:36 other ways that people can also use it just add
8:40 it but this is the company that took years to add copy paste
8:46 so bottom line time the iPhone 7 is not
8:50 a revolutionary product and I could go on for a while longer with all of my
8:53 complaints about its accompanying operating system but I'm sure we're all bored of that but what it is is a
8:59 continuation of Apple's onward March towards Hardware Perfection and the A10
9:04 processor at its heart gives a lot of
9:07 credibility to the analysts who believe that Apple will eventually replace the
9:11 Intel processors in their thin and light designs with their own but that's
9:17 besides the point do I recommend the iPhone 7 and the 7 plus well as long as
9:22 you have big enough hands for the plus and as long as you don't mind making a
9:26 pile of useless apps to reach the ones that you care about
9:30 then yeah I guess I do dbrand is your
9:33 Source For The Wicked vinyl skins you saw on our iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus in
9:39 fact the marble one on the iPhone 7 managed to sell one of my friends on a
9:43 dbrand skin pretty much immediately that's one of their newer Styles they've
9:47 got a wide variety of different colors of genuine 3M vinyl skins and they all
9:52 feature unrivaled Precision thanks to the way they are cut their configurator
9:58 is great too because it allows you to view and pick out exactly what you want
10:03 for your device and preview what it's going to look like in your hand whether
10:07 you want something tasteful or whether you want something totally gudy and
10:11 tacky you will know exactly what's going to arrive and there's no excuses which
10:15 isn't to say though that their customer service robots aren't great and easy to
10:19 deal with if you ever do have a problem dbrand Skins are affordable they're
10:24 available for a wide variety of devices including phones tablets laptops game
10:28 consoles and game control controllers and they ship worldwide at the link in
