0:00 so what is the Makey Makey it's a simple circuit board it's an Arduino kind of
0:04 it's a mouse it's a keyboard and honestly it's a ton of other stuff too
0:09 still a little bit confused well stay tuned for the explanation but also open
0:13 this video in another Tab and don't forget to subscribe to Channel Super Fun
0:17 to see the crew playing Mario Counterstrike go and even a song with
0:21 this little device
0:32 experience silent performance with the new Cooler Master silencio 652 s
0:37 minimalist design maximum compatibility click now to learn more so while we've
0:42 obviously been playing with this thing for a while as you saw in that other video the purpose of this video is to
0:47 give you a more in-depth view of how exactly the Makey Makey allowed us to do
0:52 what we're doing and to plant some ideas in your mind for ways that it might be
0:55 able to be used for fun or practical applications so the boring explanation
0:59 of how this little guy works is that it facilitates the completion of a circuit
1:03 through a signal and ground connection and then sends information based on the
1:06 completion of said circuit over a USB to a computer which will then take that
1:10 data as a keyboard or Mouse input and hopefully produce a result but boring
1:15 explanations are well boring and the Mickey Micky is anything but that so
1:20 what can you do with this thing well hopefully you've seen what we've done on the Channel Super Fun how do
1:25 I what terrorist wow
1:32 but that was just barely scratching the surface of its capabilities and there
1:36 will probably be future Channel Super Fun videos dedicated to some of the
1:40 awesome ideas we have floating around in the office there are already loads of
1:44 videos of people playing music making vegetables scream when you cut them
1:48 which is actually rather disturbing along with things like water pianos and
1:53 interactive dance floors but the point of this video is to give you the 100t
1:58 view of what this is from Hardware perspective so let's do a quick overview
2:02 of the physical unit on one side you'll see the more simplistic view which has
2:06 alligator clamp holes for the arrow keys up down left right along with space bar
2:11 and left click amongst a neat circuit board design which features some cool
2:15 hidden like gaming and music inspired art below this you have the Earth or
2:20 Ground Bar this side can also be used without any fancy wiring by simply
2:24 plugging the board into a computer over USB you can then hold a finger to the
2:28 Earth area and tap any input that you would Desire with another finger to send
2:32 that over to the computer and when you do this you'll even see a little LED
2:35 light up so that you know it's working on the other more awesome side we have
2:39 access to all the same alligator connectors that we used to but now
2:43 through some jumper wire connectors we have even more access to ground
2:47 connections WD f and g for keyboard
2:50 inputs up down left left click and rightclick for Mouse movement and mouse
2:55 input in general which is awesome that's quite a few inputs to to play with and a
3:01 ton of fun and this is all we used in our Makey Makey video for the channel
3:04 super fun but if you choose to follow the White Rabbit There's an opportunity
3:08 to go deeper by installing an Arduino IDE also known as integrated development
3:12 environment and grabbing the Makey Makey add-on from spark fun you can program
3:16 your Makey miy similarly to an Arduino don't worry it's just some basic text
3:20 editing you'll be okay this enables rebinding all of the inputs of the Makey
3:24 Makey which in my opinion makes it way more usable for real world applications
3:29 and by binding these inputs to something you seldom use like for myself maybe an
3:32 F key you can get your keyboard's unused keys to do cool interesting functions
3:37 I'm not going to spoil too many things that I might use on Channel Super Fun
3:40 but one thing that I'll probably do anyways is a conductive punching bag why
3:45 conductive punching bag well if you're getting frustrated with a game you could
3:48 bind your F1 key to do an alt f4 macro
3:51 and then if you get mad enough that you want to punch something you can punch
3:55 the punching bag and it'll close the program for you last but not least
3:58 there's a jumper wire connector at the top of these output connectors we're
4:01 going to be focusing on D14 and D16 because they control output for keyboard
4:06 and mouse respectively why would we need these output options well while you can
4:10 do a lot hooked up your computer and that's pretty cool this thing will make
4:14 the Makey Makey a lot more versatile now you can be more mobile with your
4:18 inventions and Creations and you can have a much more integrated environment
4:22 instead of being constantly hooked up to your computer unless that is your entire
4:27 environment in which case feel feel free to carry on but if you do decide to take
4:32 advantage of these output options you could do cool little things like hooking
4:35 in an additional LED or much bigger things like home automation that I
4:39 mentioned earlier and you can use it to act as like an event trigger for Motors
4:43 or other self- powerered devices in conclusion this thing is pretty freaking
4:48 cool and it seems like every time I even look at it I think of more awesome ways
4:52 that I can put it to use It's relatively cheap and very easy for anyone to pick
4:56 up due to its very wide skill range and
4:59 can be used for a seemingly endless list of applications and it happens to be one
5:03 of those cool opportunities where it's a toy but it happens to teach you things
5:08 like in this case basic electronics and basic programming while you play with it
5:13 in those future Channel Super Fun videos is there anything you guys want to see
5:16 us try let us know in the comments down below or better yet let us know on the
5:20 Forum Speaking of awesome items that can teach you things today's sponsor is I
5:24 fix it and you've probably used or at least read one of their thousands of
5:27 in-depths tear Downs or guides on their website but what you might not know is
5:31 that they have an awesome line of professional Electronics tools the Crown
5:35 Jewel in this lineup is of course their Protech toolkit with over 70 tools
5:40 including a 54-- bit driver kit nylon and metal spudgers and an anti-static
5:45 wrist strap the Protech toolkit is a staple in our office and whether you're
5:49 fixing say a 3DS or a shield or trying
5:52 to disassemble an iMac like lonus did in this video which does require some extra
5:56 tools but all of which are available on iFix 6 sites or or if you want to
6:00 improve your PC building experience with a better set of tools in general the
6:04 Protech toolkit is a great choice it's available for only $64.95 from iFixit
6:10 but if you use our offer code that's lonus 02 you can save $10 off any
6:14 purchase of $50 or more so head over to our link that's ifixit.com Linus and
6:19 save on some awesome tools today all right guys don't forget to let me know in the comments down below or on the
6:23 form what kind of stuff you want to see us do with the Makey Makey and if you
6:27 want to see us do more kind of like little maker stuff do you want to see
6:31 stuff on Arduino do you want to see stuff on uh like the flower board or any
6:35 other kind of cool makery kind of things I would like to do that but need to know
6:39 if what you guys think so let me know in those two different locations also down
6:43 below this video if you check out the shirt link you can get a cool shirt
6:46 which unfortunately isn't this one I have rice on my shirt that's
6:49 awkward also you can like dislike uh the video whether or not you're wearing
6:53 pants cuz you can't tell if I am or not and subscribe if you haven't done that
6:57 already over on the Forum if you become a contributor you can get rid of those
7:00 ads which aren't there yet but we'll be there soon and check out other cool
7:03 things on the site including the hel lineus Media Group button which is in
7:06 the top right hand corner or you can do stuff like change your Amazon link to
7:09 give us a little Kickback whenever you shop on that site thank you guys for watching and see you next time
