0:00 - I've heard you guys, loud and clear, you guys want
0:04 some more budget friendly cameras on the channel. Well today, Sony helped me deliver that
0:10 because we are looking at the ZV-E10.
0:15 Now obviously, this is just a think tank camera bag
0:18 in front of me and this is not retail packaging, I assume that Sony sent me this because,
0:23 well one, they had to send me a bunch of stuff all at once to test this camera
0:27 and two, it's probably not necessarily ready. Regardless, we have the camera here
0:32 with a couple accessories and lenses, stuff that will somewhat reflect what comes with the camera.
0:37 So why don't we have a look? Ooh,
0:42 they sent it in white, dang this thing is small, holy crap.
0:51 Okay, for those of you who have watched the Sony ZV-1 video from sometime last year, this is sort of like,
0:59 the big brother version of that camera because it's rocking an APS-C side sensor,
1:05 which stands for advanced photo type C, and that means that the camera has a larger sensor
1:11 than most cameras this size. Generally speaking, the larger the sensor
1:14 the better your image quality overall. As you can see from this photo,
1:18 the larger sensor is able to capture more content when standing from the same distance from the subject,
1:22 compared to the content captured by the smaller sensors. Additionally, you get better low-light performance
1:26 and a more shallow depth of field. But okay, I'm gonna talk more about the camera in a second,
1:30 let's just see what else comes in the box or in this package anyway.
1:34 (paper wrapping rustling) Looks like Sony sent over, oh this is the 50 to 1.8,
1:40 optical or optically stabilized. This doesn't come with the camera,
1:44 but it'll be a fun lens to test out on this camera because it's actually relatively small.
1:49 What else is in here? Oh, another lens, wow they really,
1:53 so this lens is the 16 to 50, 3.5 to a 5.6
1:59 and this is the kit lens that goes to the camera, it has a power zoom, it's electronic lens.
2:03 I'll put this on first, coz this is potentially what you might buy in a kit with the body, let's see.
2:10 Okay, this is Sony's tripod grip mount,
2:13 which they actually sent with the ZV-1 last time I checked out that camera
2:17 and this is just an optional extra. It actually works pretty well, I quite liked how it felt in the hand
2:22 and it's obviously a tripod as well.
2:26 Oh, they sent a third lens. This is the, what is this?
2:33 Oh, okay, yeah, so this is the Zeiss 24 mm 1.8
2:37 for the E-mount, again, also a very compact lens.
2:41 Guys, I have a tiny little camera,
2:45 three lenses, a tripod mount,
2:49 in this tiny think tank bag and I'm not even done unboxing everything yet.
2:56 The last of four lenses I believe, this one is the 10 to 18 F4, which again,
3:05 I've never used this lens but I've heard of it. Surprisingly compact and very lightweight.
3:13 Okay, we have a little bit more stuff in this top flap.
3:17 We've got a battery, a type C cable
3:22 and a charger, okay, cool.
3:25 So the battery that goes with this camera is,
3:28 for those of you who have used Sony cameras, the classic FW50.
3:32 And if you're like me and you used to use an a7S II,
3:36 which we did in the studio, this battery is not very good for that camera,
3:41 but for a smaller, less power hungry,
3:46 I assume compact APS-C sensor camera,
3:50 I'm actually confident, I'm more confident that this battery
3:54 will do a lot better than it used to do in that camera.
3:58 And there's a lot of ways around using a small battery like this anyway.
4:01 So, let's get into the camera. You've got the flippy screen that we've seen on the a7S III
4:09 and many of Sony's cameras at this point, and it is a very welcomed addition.
4:14 On the top of the camera we have the pre-installed dead cat wind filter, which covers the new three-capsule mic
4:18 which we actually saw on the ZV-1, and it's a welcomed addition because if you don't want
4:23 the extra bulk of a mic on the top of your camera,
4:27 you can still be in a windy condition, talk to your camera from this distance,
4:30 and your audio will still probably be pretty decent
4:33 and good enough for a lot of situations. On the top we also see that there's a zoom rocker
4:39 on the shutter button. This camera doesn't have an EVF,
4:43 which is I think what allows them to, I guess cut the price down because the price of this camera
4:49 is 699 for the body or 799 for the kit.
4:53 Now the pricing is not final, but they are aiming for around that range
5:01 and that makes this camera right between
5:04 the ZV-1 and something like the a6400.
5:09 So I was just looking up the price of the ZV-1 to refresh my memory coz I had forgotten how much it costs.
5:13 That camera was only $750, which is a great value,
5:17 and this camera's only 699 target pricing,
5:20 so let's see if it's potentially an even better value.
5:24 Finishing off the top, it's a pretty simple layout, we've got an on/off switch, the record button
5:28 and a settings dial here. You've got photo, video and slow and quick modes,
5:33 which just allows you to get to photo, video and the slow motion modes for video very easily.
5:38 Sony has taken everything that was good about the ZV-1
5:43 and put it into this camera. So we see the focus/de-focus button,
5:49 which was on the ZV-1 which just allows you to
5:52 set your f-stop to the widest possible aperture on the lens and then just blur out your background
5:58 as it's focused on you, and it's one button which is right next to the record button
6:02 so it's very easy to press. On the rear of the camera we have a pretty simple layout,
6:06 menu, function, display, ISO, there's just control out here,
6:10 a play and a delete button, very straight forward.
6:13 On the left of the camera we've got the IO, we've got a type C port which allows you to use it
6:19 as a webcam or for charging and micro HDMI,
6:23 which I don't love to see but this camera is really tiny so I wouldn't expect them to do anything different,
6:28 and then a headphone jack. And then on top of the camera,
6:32 a little tiny little mic jack. So guys I'm impressed by the size of this thing physically.
6:38 I mean, for context, here's the a7S III,
6:41 and when you look at the top-down view of these two cameras,
6:45 the grip depth of the a7S III is essentially
6:50 the depth of this entire camera with the 16 to 50 lens.
6:53 And this a7S currently has a 24 to 70,
6:56 so it's a very similar range. Let's weigh them and see how much more weight
7:00 comes in this versus this.
7:06 So for context, let's weigh the a7S, 1.138 kilograms
7:11 and the ZV-E10, 459 grams.
7:17 What, really am I reading that correctly?
7:22 459 grams, okay hang on,
7:25 how much does this lens weigh by itself?
7:29 440, this lens, this 24 to 70 E-mount lens,
7:35 weighs only a little bit less
7:38 than this entire camera with a battery,
7:43 guys, that's so impressive. This camera might be a lot lighter than a7S III,
7:48 but that doesn't mean it's any less capable. So let's put in the SD card, thank you Kingston,
7:53 they just sent over these V90 256 gig cards
7:56 which are really nice. You don't necessarily need a card this fast for this camera,
8:00 but it's always nice to be prepared. I'm gonna actually attach it to this little grip,
8:06 I wanna see how it performs just with auto.
8:11 Okay, now we're looking at the ZV-E10
8:14 and if I just held up this charger,
8:19 oh, it's hunting a little bit.
8:23 No, I think the reason for that is just the distance
8:27 and this is a zoom lens.
8:31 The 16 to 50 is also not a new lens, so it's probably struggling a little bit,
8:36 but you know like this, that's pretty quick.
8:40 Yeah, I think it's just the distance, it can't actually focus this close,
8:43 this is probably the minimum but when it's the right distance, that's impressive,
8:48 like that guys, look at that, that is fast.
8:53 So that was a good first clip in the studio, but why don't we take this thing outside and test it
8:57 while actually vlogging? But before that, a word from our sponsor, PIA.
9:02 PIA is a VPN that allows you to access services and websites
9:06 as if you were in a different country. It encrypts all of your internet traffic and uses
9:09 a safe protected IP, connect up to 10 devices at once,
9:13 clients for Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and Linux.
9:16 Buy a one year plan for 3995, at the link in the video description.
9:20 Okay, let's go outside. Okay, so we're outside of the office now,
9:23 I'm just using the built in mic on the camera
9:27 with the dead cat on the top and this is what it looks like.
9:30 It's on auto, it actually looks like it's switched to a back lit portrait mode right now
9:35 and all of the settings are on auto,
9:39 here's auto exposure, how quickly it adjusts,
9:43 that's actually pretty good. I want to know how this sounds,
9:46 I hope it sounds okay to you guys. On the little display it looks like it's doing
9:51 a pretty good job keeping everything in focus.
9:56 See how the colors look in general, this is just a standard profile, this is just a standard profile,
10:00 I'm not using S-Log or anything like that.
10:03 And it's kind of nice having this control
10:06 of the lens and the camera.
10:10 There's Andy, hi Andy.
10:14 And honestly, I could probably vlog with this thing
10:18 fully extended all day, it's super light.
10:24 So let me know what you guys think of the audio because I have no idea what it sounds like yet
10:28 and we'll see when we get back inside.
10:31 It sounds pretty good, right? So I don't know about you guys, but that look
10:36 and sounded pretty good to me, and the auto-focus was as expected, very good.
10:41 And so then you guys might be asking, who is this camera for?
10:45 And honestly, it's kind of for everyone
10:49 because if you're a beginner and you want an easy to use, high quality camera with good focus and a sensible layout,
10:57 this is a really good option. And if you're a professional and you already own a camera
11:01 and you need a B camera or you need something that has professional features like S-Log3 or slow motion,
11:07 this is a great option. If you want something a lot smaller
11:10 and that you can travel with, all of these four lenses and the body and batteries,
11:15 and there was still space in that camera bag. So I think Sony has a winner here,
11:19 they've taken the best of both worlds on their vlogging camera and their APS-C cameras
11:25 and put it into one at a price point that
11:28 I think most people can afford when they're trying to take video seriously.
11:32 So thank you guys for watching. If you have any other cameras you want me to check out, leave in the comments down below and what do you think?
11:39 Would you buy this camera? Is this camera useful to you?
