0:07 welcome to my unboxing and first look of the elite book
0:10 9470m from HP this is a demo unit as
0:15 part of their AA hpq demo program so
0:19 they sent this to me to have a look at and I'm pretty excited about it so this
0:23 is an elite book which makes it a business class product but it is also an
0:28 Ultra Book so this Ultra Book right here is actually less than 75 in thick and uh
0:35 I'm sorry I have to do the unboxing like this but slick is just sort of taking
0:40 his sweet time over there with some benchmarking that needs to be done so let's get these seals opened up and
0:44 we'll be back in a moment all right so I guilted slick into coming over here and
0:48 actually helping me which is his job so he's pointing the camera at stuff he's
0:53 all like o my ARM's injured cuz I got in a bicycle
0:58 accident as if that's an excuse actually
1:01 his ARM's really badly injured if you watch sorry it's not funny but if you
1:06 watched the live stream last week you can see it was in like a sling and stuff
1:10 and now I've just got him like holding the camera it's only been like 4
1:15 days um so we're finding some pretty cool stuff in here look at that very
1:20 slim very small uh power adapter very
1:24 nice I mean it's one thing when you have an Ultrabook notebook uh but it's a
1:28 whole other thing when it comes with like a big brick old stupid power supply
1:32 that's like big and stupid a brick so
1:36 here's the included battery which is good for up to 9 hours of battery
1:42 life it's swappable which is pretty leap
1:46 if you want to sort of consider what's different about this from another Ultra
1:50 Book it also has an optional what's
1:53 called a slice battery which will give
1:56 the notebook up to 19 hours of battery
2:00 life should you choose to install that so check out how thin this battery is
2:04 very cool stuff see there's the the old iPhone size comparison very very small
2:09 and it's just it's phenomenally cool to me that you can just totally swap the
2:13 battery out no big deal I mean most Ultra books you can't do that love that
2:18 industry Trend started by the one and only Apple computer because they're
2:22 awesome um that way and oh check this
2:27 out very cool so again business class product so it has some different options
2:30 that we're not used to seeing on consumer products it comes pre-installed
2:34 with Windows 7 Pro however it also comes
2:38 with a Windows 8 Pro DVD and license so
2:41 what you can do is you can only install one of them at a time but you can
2:44 uninstall Windows 7 Pro then install Windows 8 Pro and you can choose which
2:50 of those two operating systems you want to use on your notebook and then you can
2:54 even just uninstall Windows 8 and put Windows 7 back on it should you so
2:57 desire which is very very cool so so the process of installing the battery is
3:01 what we're going to do next not a lot included in terms of accessories however
3:04 there's lots of optional accessories that you can get to go with it which
3:08 again makes it kind of business class because the assumption is that unlike a
3:12 consumer product it doesn't need to come with everything and that business users
3:16 won't necessarily mind forking out for additional accessories so it is dock
3:20 ready which means you can install it into DOC for additional IO and for the
3:24 convenience of not having to plug and unplug your peripherals As you move
3:27 around from the office to home or wherever else you need to go it also
3:32 has yeah that was apparently not how to do it there now we're in place yep we're
3:38 good it also has awesome IO so you've got three usb3 super speed ports two on
3:43 this side DisplayPort and VGA VGA is still a huge Boon to business users
3:48 because of the fact that as you're traveling lots of boardrooms lots of
3:52 presentation rooms are still using older VGA projectors and if you show up with a
3:56 notebook that doesn't have an analog output you're not going to be able to give your presentation
4:00 so this guy will figure out in a moment full-sized Ethernet connector no sort of
4:05 little connector hoo-ha doad thing going on here so it should be very durable
4:09 you've also got an SD card reader right there hiding and on the back you have
4:14 nothing except a look you Packard uh no
4:17 no you're not looking at that it's okay finally we've got power in Kensington
4:22 lock exhaust that other USB 3 super speed Port that I talked about as well
4:26 as an integrated headphone microphone Jack wouldn't have minded seeing Two
4:30 Jacks there if they' been able to get away with that sorry I messed that up
4:35 before guys this right here is the connector for the optional extended
4:38 battery that gives you up to 19 hours of battery life on this thing and this guy
4:44 right here is actually the dot connector so I don't really use business model
4:47 notebooks that much and I wasn't familiar with that thing so I'm quite
4:51 sorry about that this guy over here is a smart card reader and that was where we
4:55 left off and I think I'm caught up now so we can move around to the front where
4:58 we have wireless power charging and disc activity LEDs let's go
5:04 ahead and open this bad boy up where we find a matte screen again business
5:08 options proper matte screen no glossy stuff going on in here we've also got a
5:13 hardware button for turning the wireless on and off as well as a hardware mute
5:17 button this is a really cool indicator right here this is to tell you if your
5:21 touchpad is on or off so you can use the
5:24 touchpad on or off hotkey in order to turn it on and off and then you'll
5:28 actually know whether it's on and off you can see it's got a very business-like layout to the inside as
5:33 well nice big touchpad and then you've got the option of either using buttons
5:36 here or using the mouse nipple which is in the middle of the keyboard here to
5:40 navigate and then using these two buttons here for your left and right
5:44 click the keyboard is Led backlit you can see it's quite bright because even
5:48 though I've got my studio lights on here it's uh very clearly illuminated I'm
5:53 going to go ahead and turn one off to give you guys an even better idea and I'll stand in the way of the other one
5:57 so looks just um oh hold on they went
6:01 away give it a sec let's wait till the machine boots up and then we'll be we'll
6:05 be good to show that off okay so I figured it out it turns off as a power
6:09 saving feature so you guys can see what it looks like normally aha see I wasn't
6:13 crazy the LED backlight was on so it shines through the letters oh you can
6:17 see the red light on the camera that's no good so it shines through the letters
6:20 as well as around the outsides of the letters so it should be very easy to find what you're working on even in the
6:25 utmost Darkness so you got a fingerprint reader here which is Handy for your
6:30 biometric logins and all that and whatnots and HOAs and in terms of the
6:34 overall layout of the keyboard it looks very strong so you got a long Enter key
6:38 long backspace key long shift long shift
6:41 and no cardinal sins committed in terms of the overall layout oh man that
6:47 thing's solid I love Elite books um like
6:50 there's there's sorry sorry for the noise guys but there's no flex
6:55 whatsoever to this machine it is incredibly solidly built in spite of the
6:59 fact it doesn't use that unibody design that was popular popularized by uh by
7:04 our friends over at Apple just a sec which quite frankly isn't a very
7:09 environmentally friendly way to manufacture laptops so it's uh it's just
7:12 as well that hp's found a way to make a laptop not be manufactured that way and
7:17 still be very very solid So speaking of our friends at Apple I'm going to go
7:20 ahead and do the obligatory thickness comparison with the iPhone 4 this is a
7:25 14-in notebook so the Ultrabook standard allows it to be a little bit thicker
7:29 than Ultra books that are not 14 in um
7:32 it has a 1366 X 768 display and it is hold on let's have
7:38 a look let's see what we think of that their display shouldn't be that hard to figure out and it is not a TN panel yay
7:46 love nonn panels I mean that's the thing you get with Elite books is you get that
7:49 slightly higher build quality versus the consumer grade stuff it has the trusted
7:54 platform module chip embedded which gives you more security again this is a
7:58 very corporate or oriented feature and what's cool about this touchpad is it
8:02 will never ever wear out because it is chemically etched glass unlike most
8:07 trackpads which you're using like a plastic or some kind of composite
8:11 surface so it doesn't feel like glass but it's a little bit cold to the touch
8:15 and it will never ever ever ever wear out which is very very very cool as well
8:20 it has optional LTE support although that's not built into this particular
8:24 model that I'm checking out let's see how the hinge feels we'll give it the
8:27 old hinge abuse ah
8:31 feels good actually feels quite solid and even the screen itself doesn't have
8:35 that much Flex either check this out so it's very very thin see there's the old
8:39 iPhone comparison very thin however see how
8:44 much Flex there is there's a little bit but there's no getting away from that
8:48 and really not that much very very nice
8:52 let's see if there's any look at that you don't even get any discoloration on
8:55 the screen when you do that that's outstanding very very nice all right so
