0:00 it's time for episode three and no I'm
0:04 not going to get all angsty and explain why I think the Jedi are evil it's the
0:09 third episode of common PC Building traps you should be looking out for
0:14 whether you're a Padawan preparing for your first build or you spend weekends
0:18 with your family bragging about all the fully armed and operational Battle
0:22 Stations you've put together let's start
0:25 with something that you should watch out for before you even begin physically
0:30 assembling the computer balancing your
0:33 build this means you want to be sure that you're choosing components that
0:38 will work with each other as a coordinated sensible hole or computer
0:45 for example if you've decided to go with something like a low-end Pentium CPU
0:50 don't pair it with a $600 graphics card
0:53 as your underpowered processor will likely be a bottleneck in games not
0:59 allowing your graphics card to operate at Peak Performance not what you want
1:03 after spending all that money in a similar vein doing things like buying a
1:08 1200 wat power supply for a single video card setup or buying 64 gigs of RAM for
1:14 watching YouTube videos not good ideas
1:18 so think about what you want to do with
1:21 your system and whether the parts you're buying make sense for each other before
1:26 pulling the trigger then after you've picked a logical set set of components
1:30 and you're putting it all together don't forget to manage your cables that's
1:36 right you should do this even if you're using a case that doesn't have a side
1:41 panel window as the benefits aren't purely aesthetic proper cable routing
1:46 can not only save you a lot of headaches whenever you have to open up your system
1:51 to make an upgrade or repair they can prevent your components from being
1:55 choked up with dust as poorly managed cables that cross Every Which Way inside
2:01 your case tend to be dust magnets and
2:04 can eventually restrict air flow and you
2:08 don't have to do some sort of worldclass cable management job to reap the
2:12 benefits just use the routing holes in your case plus a few zip ties for a
2:17 massive Improvement versus having a cable jungle like some kind of
2:22 Barbarian and while we're on the subject of cables when you finish your build and
2:27 are getting ready to plug in your monitor for the Love of All that is good
2:31 don't plug it into your motherboard if you're rocking a discreet graphics card
2:38 although software solutions that allowed you to plug your monitor into either one
2:43 and still reap the performance benefits of your GPU once appeared as though they
2:48 had a bright future these days a connection to your motherboard will
2:53 completely bypass your graphics card leaving you wondering why you're getting
2:57 five frames per second in a game where you were were expecting to get
3:01 500 moving right along with the plugging things in theme don't assume that all
3:07 the RAM slots on your motherboard are the same if you've got multiple sticks
3:12 of RAM but not enough to fill every slot
3:16 maybe you've got two sticks and a four slot board check your motherboard manual
3:22 and follow the manufacturer's recommended configuration typically this
3:27 means using every other slot not
3:30 following the instructions could result in your RAM not running in a faster
3:35 multi-channel mode and while memory speed doesn't have a massive impact on
3:40 performance except in very specific applications these days there also isn't
3:45 a good reason to miss out on a small boost that properly inserted RAM can
3:50 give you so you've got everything plugged in properly and you've been
3:54 using your computer for a short while but something seems a miss you find out
4:00 that a BIOS update from your motherboard manufacturer might be the cure for your
4:06 ills however you need to be very careful
4:09 when flashing your ufi BIOS if something
4:13 goes wrong during the process like a power outage you could end up
4:17 irreversibly bricking your motherboard
4:20 so it's a good idea especially if you
4:23 haven't invested in a motherboard with a dual BIOS or a BIOS flashback feature
4:30 that lets you reflash it even if it is
4:33 somewhat bricked it's a good idea to be plugged into a battery backup or a UPS
4:39 while you are doing it I mean and at the
4:43 very least don't do it during a thunderstorm you don't want to be out
4:46 the 200 bucks you spent on your board just because Mother Nature decided to
4:50 have a little Tempest tantrum so hopefully this Series has
4:55 helped you in your quest to have a mistake-free building experience but
4:59 what are some of your go-to tips for PC assembly let us know in the comments and
5:04 maybe you'll see your ideas in episode 4
5:07 where will give you frustrated Builders out there some New Hope tired of
5:12 companies tracking what you're doing on the internet TunnelBear VPN is the simpl
5:18 to ouse VPN that does the same things as
5:22 vpns that are more difficult to use so how could you go wrong basically tunnel
5:26 bear is a quick download it's available for iOS
5:30 Android PC and Mac they even have a Chrome extension that lets you just
5:34 press a button boom I want to Tunnel through this country and there you go
5:40 your connection gets encrypted with AES 256bit encryption and your public IP
5:45 address gets switched so you can show up as though you're in a different country
5:49 to the online services and websites that
5:52 you use they have a great privacy policy
5:56 and it is free with no credit card required D to try with 500 Megs of data
6:03 so you don't have to take my word for it at all check it out at tunnel bear.com
