0:03 - It's like they only send over the biggest monitors.
0:06 This is the Acer CG437K.
0:10 A large format gaming display. UHD 4K 3840 by 2160 resolution.
0:16 NVIDIA G-SYNC, this is just G-SYNC compatible,
0:20 not the hardcore one with the module. Over clockable to 144Hz, we'll talk about that later.
0:26 One millisecond response time, but it's visual response boost.
0:30 That's a motion blur reduction mode kinda like ULMB.
0:33 So that means it's only getting at one millisecond with this mode turned on.
0:37 These panels themselves cannot do one millisecond gray to gray response time.
0:41 VA cannot do that. Then we got display HDR 1000 certification.
0:46 That's awesome. And these specs right here are kind of derivatives of that.
0:51 And 30 Watts of charging through a USB-C port.
0:56 30 Watts is not enough to charge a laptop or anything.
1:00 But meh, maybe it's good for your phone or it can't hurt. Whoa.
1:04 Some RGB light strips, our remote.
1:08 And what is this? This is the power cable,
1:14 standard stuff. (grunts)
1:19 I used to think Linus just made all these grunting sounds
1:23 to make it more dramatic. But now I know, he's just old.
1:28 Get this thing outta here.
1:31 (box hits ground) (bleeping) Now it's upside down.
1:34 More cables fell out. DisplayPort cable,
1:39 USB type C cable, another DisplayPort cable.
1:42 I'll tell you why in a second. This looks like a bunch of extensions for the RGB cables
1:47 and a USB type B cable.
1:50 This is for hooking up the USB hub.
1:53 Okay, here we go. It appears that the stand is already on there,
1:58 that's kinda nice.
2:04 Whoa.
2:08 That's huge, man. When I was a kid, 43 inches was like
2:13 not many people had a TV that big. 27 inches was normal,
2:17 36 was like pretty big and 42 was like woo, bit TV person.
2:21 Pretty interesting looking back. this stand is pretty high quality.
2:24 This is metal, and it's just bolted in, three screws each.
2:29 This feels pretty stable, well, it does it? It's kind of,
2:33 no, it's pretty good. A big gamery kina back to it.
2:39 It looks like it's got some venting ventilation here. It looks like a cable management kind of hook right there.
2:45 Oh, it's pretty heavy. There's some accessible side IO here.
2:49 It's two HDMI 2.0 ports and then some USB ports.
2:53 This monitor has two USB 3s and two USB 2s.
2:57 Down here though, the main IO you've got your USB type B,
3:02 which will power the rest of this hub, for your your USB-C with, again, 30 Watts of charging,
3:07 two more USB type As and two display ports.
3:11 So this is a 4k monitor that advertises a refresh rate of up to 144 Hertz if you overclock it.
3:17 But, in order to get that, you need to run two DisplayPort cables.
3:21 Now it's clunkier cause you need to have two cables, but on the other hand, you're not gonna get any
3:26 chroma sub sampling, which is a trade-off that you do get with some other monitors.
3:30 Then we've got a power switch, (clicking) just like you see on your power supply on your computer
3:35 and then the power plug. Ohhh,
3:44 ah dang it. You can see on the front of the stand, there's actually a little icon showing controllers.
3:49 I guess they know who their target audience is, don't they?
3:53 The type C port does carry DisplayPort over it, but you're only gonna get
3:56 a maximum of up to 60 Hertz with that, so... (hits ground)
4:00 I gotta mess with these RGB strips first because I've seen
4:03 monitors that have RGB on the back, but I've never seen them come like sold separately.
4:09 Yeah, they're magnetic a little.
4:13 What the heck? How am I supposed to stick these on? Yeah, maybe I'm supposed to put these into my case
4:17 and not on the monitor. No, but there's, I'm pretty sure there's ports
4:21 to plug this into. If we pull this off,
4:25 there's headers there for my lamp belts to plug into.
4:31 Tada. - Who put all this, who put all these led strips on it?
4:36 - It comes with them. - Really? - But it doesn't come with any adhesive on them
4:40 and this has a magnetic, so you have to just-
4:43 - You gotta be kidding me. - You download their software and then you can
4:47 sync them up with League of Legends and everything. - No, but I just mean these are, these are addressable LEDs.
4:52 So there would be no reason to have more than one thing off the back and then just have little connecting, like-
4:57 - Oh yeah, if you daisy chain them. - Yeah. - Well you don't have to daisy chain them.
5:01 - But why would you, but why would you not? - Because the world is your oyster,
5:04 any configuration you want, they don't even have to be on the monitor. You can put them on your desk.
5:08 I don't know if I'm missing something, but this is the most half-baked RGB solution I've ever seen.
5:13 This is so tacked on. This is a $1,300 monitor.
5:18 Oh, another peel.
5:22 Oh, I didn't even put the batteries in this thing yet. I don't think this thing comes with batteries.
5:27 Everything comes with batteries. This is brutal. Light sensors, this monitor has an ambient light sensor,
5:32 which I would guess is in here somewhere. So it looks like the native refresh rate is 120 Hertz,
5:36 which is what I expected. But we can overclock that to 144, so let's try.
5:42 Oh no. Well they don't guarantee a 144 Hertz overclock, I guess.
5:46 Oh, maybe that's why I didn't work. It thinks I have multiple displays on.
5:49 It's because there's a setting in the OSD. You go down to system, then on the second page,
5:55 there's 4k, 144 Hertz mode. You turn that on, and now if I go into display settings,
6:01 only one monitor is recognized, and it's refreshing at 144 Hertz.
6:05 All right, now we're gonna check out the HDR experience with cinema.
6:09 It's definitely on, you can see the brightness around those clouds. - Oh yeah, for sure, reflections on the armor,
6:14 and impressively, the black areas are quite dark.
6:18 Like not, it's not OLED inky black, but considering how bright some of these highlights are,
6:27 I am really impressed for an edge lit display, I'll say that much. - What I want to see now is go into to a game
6:31 and, smaller things like a mouse cursor, will they be bright?
6:35 - Right. - See the light hitting that balloon and that lamp over there, that's pretty good.
6:40 So yep, it's definitely an HDR monitor. Maybe some of those little tiny highlights would be brighter
6:45 if you use the full array local dimming HDR monitor, which is like the top for HDR, but sometimes those monitors
6:52 can be annoying because even when you're on your desktop,
6:55 just moving the mouse around, you can have halos around it and just kind of looks weird.
6:58 And the viewing angles sometimes worse. So I wouldn't buy this monitor if HDR is what you want.
7:03 HDR is here and it's, it's very good. It's not top of the top.
7:08 And if you're spending $1,300, maybe top of the top HDR what you want.
7:12 In conclusion, it's a pretty sweet monitor. If you like 16 by 9.
7:15 Personally, I would way rather have a super ultra wide or even an ultra wide because this extra height
7:21 isn't really gonna help you in productivity situations.
7:24 But if you're watching 16 by nine content and playing 16 by nine games, this can be pretty cool.
