0:07 see a critical part of any successful RAM installation is picking the right
0:11 memory in this case we need third generation DDR DDR 3 we can accept
0:16 memory speeds up to 1866 MHz so we're
0:19 going to use 1600 MHz memory and voltage
0:22 is key as well this motherboard calls for anything at 1.65 volts or less so
0:28 our memory is rated for 1.5 volt so that's just fine if you want to be 100%
0:32 sure you can check the qvl or qualified vendor list on the motherboard
0:36 manufacturer website however a lot of the time those lists are out of date and
0:40 you're better off to just find something that has a specification that matches
0:45 what your motherboard accepts and try it out now most motherboards have tabs on
0:49 both sides of the memory slot this is to latch the memory into place what you
0:54 might notice however is that some motherboards only have a tab on one side
0:58 this is to reduce clearance issues with large video cards or other cards
1:03 installed in the PCI Express slots it doesn't really affect the procedure much
1:08 you just have to make sure that you're careful when you're installing in the
1:11 side without a tab make sure it clicks all the way in once you have the correct
1:14 memory you need to identify the slots you're going to install them in this is
1:18 a dual Channel motherboard you can tell because there are two of each color of
1:22 slots I recommend populating the slots that are further away from the CPU
1:26 socket itself first because this reduces the chance of interference with between
1:31 your CPU Cooler and the memory it's optimal to fill all of a particular
1:35 color before you start filling the others so I'd install my first two
1:39 sticks in the blue slots and my second two sticks in the black slots some
1:43 motherboards actually have the slots labeled in micro printing on the board
1:47 itself and this can help you if for whatever reason you can't tell from the
1:52 color coding which one to use now this is the fun part where we actually
1:55 install the memory pull back either one or two tabs depending on the type of
2:00 motherboard you have position the memory inside the slot ensuring that the notch
2:05 in the bottom of the module is aligned with the notch in the memory slot itself
2:09 push it down gently now this is where the procedure differs if you have a one
2:14 latch slot then what I usually do is I push in the non- latched side first to
2:19 ensure it goes in all the way then the other side if you have two latches then
2:24 I push them both the same way you can easily check the latch sides to make
2:28 sure that they're in all the way by visually inspecting the latch itself and
2:32 for the other one again visual inspection or give it a quick push to
2:36 ensure that the RAM is firmly seated after that you basically rinse and
2:39 repeat until you've installed either your two sticks or your four sticks in
2:43 the case of this motherboard then what you want to do is boot up the system and
2:47 use CPU to verify that all of the memory is detected you can also check in
2:51 Windows to verify that all the memory is even being used for example Windows Home
2:55 Premium won't detect more than 16 gigs of RAM it is normal for the megahertz
3:00 detected in CPU to be 1 half of the
3:04 advertised DDR speed because DDR 1600
3:07 megahertz is double data rate 800
