0:07 welcome to my Zenbook unboxing this is
0:11 very exciting and I am excited to bring
0:14 you this exciting new unboxing from the exciting Channel lonus Tech tips which
0:19 does unboxings reviews and other computer videos this
0:24 is an unboxing but we're also going to do an overview of the unit in general
0:28 here is some Packaging and here is other
0:32 more different packaging so the Zenbook is part of a new class of notebooks
0:38 which is called a thin and light no it's called a thinner and lighter no wait
0:43 it's called an Ultra Book yes so an Ultra Book is thinner and lighter than a
0:48 thin and light and basically refers to a
0:52 class of notebooks that is thinner and lighter than a thin and light yes
0:55 totally circular blabbing right now while I get
1:00 the packaging opened so the most obvious
1:05 competitor for the Zenbook is the MacBook Air although there are other PC
1:09 guys who will be releasing Ultra books in the near future great packaging
1:14 actually reminiscent of the way Apple uh does the MacBook Air which we also
1:18 unboxed so here we are
1:21 Zenbook oo I can already see it has USB 3 which is better than the MacBook Air
1:26 although the MacBook Air has Thunderbolt which is better than the Zenbook so
1:30 let's just give them both some time to reveal their strengths and weaknesses
1:33 and we will go from there so let's find out what comes in this little package here we are going to find a USB
1:39 connector attached to an Ethernet port
1:42 aha so you can run a wired net Network
1:45 out of the box on the Zenbook
1:49 fascinating next we have oh look at that a little mini connector to VGA you can
1:55 run a VGA external monitor out of the box on the Zenbook
2:00 Advantage Zen book so far next we have a
2:04 power adapter that looks a little something like this actually fairly similar to the
2:09 way that uh the MacBook Air does things
2:13 except the MacBook Air does have the option to instead extend this cable and
2:16 make it even longer and not take up as
2:19 much space in your power brick so Advantage MacBook
2:23 Air all right what else we got in here ooh it comes with a case that is a big
2:28 Advantage Zen book because uh we all
2:31 know Apple accessories are not cheap so here we are it comes oh you know
2:35 remember those commercials where they showed you the the air fits in an envelope ASUS thought to provide you
2:41 with an envelope so you can do that demo all day every day for all of your
2:46 friends just going to go ahead and slip that bad boy in there and that is how
2:52 much space and ASUS Zen book will take
2:55 up okay don't worry we're going to keep going here what else we got for
2:59 documentation here Zen
3:02 book some like branding there very
3:06 nice okay inside we find a battery
3:09 notice hm something caution do not dispose of in fire do not put in water
3:14 do not eat it that kind of stuff okay next we have a cable tie thank you ASUS
3:19 very elegant very not MacBook Air likee all right next we have a notebook
3:23 warranty card here's a big Advantage ASUS because you get look at that
3:30 complimentary one-year accidental damage
3:33 protection plan bam you must register within 60 days from the date of purchase
3:37 and follow the simple steps but you get accidental damage protection that
3:42 includes water electricity broken screen and
3:46 fire wow doesn't cover acts of God however
3:52 okay uh okay so what else we got here 12 month limited on the complete unit 24
3:57 month new purchase oh okay this is just
4:01 General stuff okay so that's not that useful um Beyond The Accidental damage
4:06 warranty bit system recovery DVD
4:09 fascinating next we have a notebook users manual as well as an LCD cleaning
4:13 cloth Advantage Zenbook all right and let's go ahead and
4:18 get the Zenbook taken back out of its
4:21 envelope here and let's check it out so it is also
4:27 slightly lighter than the MacBook Air so these are both I'm comparing both the
4:31 13.3 in models so the Zenbook is yeah
4:36 I'm cheating I have a cheat sheet down there is 1.3 kg and the MacBook Air is
4:40 1.35 kg which actually holding on to the
4:44 units doesn't feel that significant to be perfectly honest but that's okay I
4:48 mean every Advantage counts right all right let's uh check out the overall
4:52 form factor so I'm going to do my uh my
4:55 traditional iPhone size comparison so there it is at its thickest point
5:00 Point here it is at its thinnest point at the front of the unit I'm going to go
5:04 ahead and open it up here and then I want you guys to check out the oops a
5:10 little bit tricky to open there we go all right so I want you guys to check it
5:13 out on the screen here let's make sure we go y there we go so that's the
5:18 thickness of the LED back lit 13in
5:21 screen actually I believe it's 13.3
5:25 in okay and then there is the bottom of
5:29 the unit so there's that thickness comparison so
5:32 overall yes it is very thin and very
5:36 very light all right uh you know what we're
5:40 going to close it back up for a second and so let's have a look at what we've
5:44 got in terms of IO here we've got a usb2 port a headphone jack an SD card slot so
5:49 far all this is looking pretty familiar along the back we have a hinge excellent
5:55 next we have a DC in so there's your
6:00 power we also have an a super speed USB
6:04 3 Port so that is to combat the Thunderbolt port on the MacBook Air we
6:09 also have uh I think it's micro HDMI as well as our Fancy Pants little
6:15 one that supports where'd it
6:19 go oh no hold on this is this so This
6:23 does HDMI and VGA so cool so okay give
6:29 me a sec here guys I got to find out what this is got a little confused there guys so
6:33 this is the VGA this is the micro HDMI
6:36 and this is a light okay so let's go ahead and oh here there's a little lip
6:41 here which is going to help you lift up the lid of the Zen
6:45 book look at how fancy pants this thing
6:50 looks wow okay so we have in traditional
6:53 PC fashion actual left and rightclick buttons which will help you left and
6:58 right click in the software that you use in your daily life we also have check
7:03 this out so ASUS actually got authorization to use altered branding
7:07 for Intel Core i7 as well as Windows 7
7:11 in a monochrome kind of style so that it wouldn't disrupt the overall look of the
7:16 machine we've got sort of your typical ASUS branding here stereo microphone by
7:22 the look of things which is pretty cool next to the webcam and then the keyboard
7:26 layout let's check out the keyboard layout so the keyboard layout looks very ideal from where I'm sitting right now
7:31 we've got long backspace long enter long shift long shift and a reasonably sized
7:35 tab we've also got a fairly ideal layout in terms of the arrow keys as well as
7:41 pretty much everything else that I can see on here you know what it's pretty
7:44 darn similar in fact to the MacBook Air which I'm just going to run over here
7:49 and grab because this reminds me of it so
7:53 much okay here we go so there there's
7:57 both machines side by side so the only only major differences look like the
8:01 inclusion of a Windows key on the Windows machine
8:06 and yeah that's looking like pretty much
8:09 it in fact they even both have their power Keys here although uh looks like
8:13 the ASUS Zenbook has not come pre-charged so I'm not going to be able
8:17 to turn it on just yet now I do want to take both of these notebooks and I
8:22 haven't really done the the finish on the top yet here so this looks just
8:25 outstanding it's kind of a a circular here you might need to move to that side
8:28 so that we can get the light on it can you see the circular pattern in it yeah
8:32 you can okay good so you can see kind of the um well the circular pattern with
8:37 the ASUS branding in the top of the notebook here and then on the bottom
8:41 very very sharp looking by the way um kind of like stainless steel appliances
8:46 sort of thing and then on the bottom instead of a circle it's more like a brushed pattern and then we've got
8:51 little plasticky rubbery feet on the bottom as well as ventilation holes all
8:56 along the back the unit can be opened up with torque screws all along the bottom
9:00 if you needed to well open it up for any
9:03 reason in particular so thank you for checking out my unboxing of the ASUS's
9:07 end book and stay tuned to my ncixcom channnel for a more detailed comparison
9:12 of these two notebooks head-to-head and thank you for watching Line's techtips
