0:00 okay so courtesy of the same crazy bastards that brought us that tiny
0:05 little Windows-based gaming machine we have got this should be one of the
0:10 first units as far as i know the gpd
0:13 xd plus and if you're wondering was that
0:16 intentional the answer is yes yes it was
0:20 and this is actually the least bizarre thing about the box because i don't know
0:25 what the hell that is supposed to mean when you smile the world loves him when
0:30 you laugh the world fears him maybe it's a riddle
0:34 maybe it's some kind of proverb maybe it just was
0:39 random words from a dictionary like this
0:42 it's hard to tell but what i do know is that this thing looks pretty freaking
0:47 cool it's an Android-based gaming device and we are gonna put it through the
0:52 paces after i tell you about tunnelbear the easy-to-use vpn app that makes it so
0:58 people can enjoy a more open internet to try tunnelbear for free go to
1:01 tunnelbear.com LTT
1:13 all right first things first let's get this baby fired up so it's pretty
1:17 similar in terms of the actual construction of it to the original gpd
1:22 xd which is also an Android based gaming device but
1:26 they have made some upgrades under the hood to make it a little bit more robust
1:31 so first let's run through it just for those of you who aren't familiar
1:35 bottom's pretty plain you've got an r1 r2 l1 and l2 that for whatever reason
1:41 all of these are upside down
1:44 so you're apparently supposed to look at them this way okay sure it's got a
1:49 headphone jack which you cannot take for granted these days
1:53 it's got a mini HDMI output that is HDMI
1:56 2.0 they say in the specs but then they also say HDMI 2.0 max 2560 by 1600
2:04 resolution maybe it's a software limitation uh micro usb still for
2:08 charging so that's how you can tell there were a couple things they did not update about the chassis and micro sd
2:14 other than that we've got uh did this it's not turned on what's going
2:18 on oh hey there it goes okay so we've got a couple of joysticks that are
2:22 actually not too shabby like as far as low profile joysticks go that's not bad
2:28 we've got an l3 and an r3 volume up
2:31 volume down let's make some adjustments there there we go multitask button we've got
2:36 whatever this button does
2:39 not clear not clear what this button does start select back home
2:44 which uh and we've got a d-pad and
2:47 actually some not bad buttons here as well now challenge number one challenge
2:51 number one for me is that it ships in chinese
2:55 which has some what appear to be some like pirated ass games on it
3:01 i don't know what moopen 64 plus is
3:04 i don't know what that says something about detected problem oh that's in
3:07 english i wasn't taking it for granted so it
3:12 apparently ships with this wow that is some pretty sketch stuff right there but
3:17 hey let's try it out right always yoshi if you pick anyone other than yoshi and
3:21 mario 64 then you suck or you're playing with me because i would have worked
3:25 pretty hard to snipe yoshi
3:30 oh i'm dropping a couple of frames here but it's actually not too bad so i don't
3:34 know why that is right now i haven't actually obviously spent a lot of time
3:37 with it i don't know if there's any tuning that i can do i really got to get my mario kart game on here because this
3:42 is not pretty to watch seven see i'm not a game streamer i'm
3:47 not experienced with like trying to play the game while talking
3:51 beat that luigi thank you oh that drift
3:54 go away toad you suck you suck everything about you sucks oh
4:00 oh oh oh terrible terrible terrible terrible
4:04 oh no okay so that's enough moopin
4:07 uh moop and cart 64 here let's have a look at some of the other stuff they got
4:11 going on in here apparently wow this thing is like pirated af
4:18 okay if this thing manages to impress me in
4:22 super mario world then they have a good product on their
4:25 hands here because i have i have not had
4:29 a great experience with super mario world on Android emulators so far
4:34 and i'm pretty sensitive to input lag in this game so let's have a look here
4:39 trust me i'm actually pretty good at this game
4:42 there we go just the buttons are reversed
4:45 oh oh the button mapping oh
4:51 oh right okay
4:54 where are the settings for this emulator uh
4:58 all right yeah this is chinese is all hell also the input lag is not great
5:05 it's not playable it's not playable i don't know if it's in the emulators
5:08 themselves or if it's in the manufactures of the devices but there's
5:12 a lot of room to improve this experience and some people like if you're super
5:15 basic then i guess it's fine but oh we've only got one ps1 they've only got
5:19 one thing in here cebu kaihatsu
5:25 sure let's go with difficult i'm sure this thing is going to kick my ass
5:33 well i don't know what the buttons do brandon
5:37 oh okay so we've got the like electricity whip now
5:41 that's pretty dope yeah eat you eat you can eat
5:44 too yeah thank you electricity whip loving it so overall performance in the
5:50 included emulators is actually pretty good n64 we struggled a little bit but
5:56 um super famicom
5:59 the joysticks feel good still d-pad is actually pretty good it's hard to find a
6:03 decent d-pad these days and the buttons are reasonably clicky all considering
6:08 like how low profile the whole thing feels in terms of performance they've
6:12 got some decent specs under the hood on this thing so it's a mediatek 8176
6:18 four gigs of RAM they're using a power vr gx 2650 they've upgraded the storage
6:22 to emmc 5.0 so launch times actually feel pretty darn snappy about as good as
6:28 you can expect for a device that's you know this kind of a cost but so far
6:33 i have one small problem still i can't
6:36 figure out how to get out of this interface
6:41 this like metro ui type thing and i can't figure
6:45 out how to change the language so i have to call in a specialist here
6:51 oh i look ugly now okay i can't tell the difference
6:55 unless one day i'm gonna forget how to speak chinese you're not gonna pretend i
6:59 can't speak chinese you're not gonna forget oh
7:03 there we go so we can change the launcher in those settings so this is a
7:07 more conventional Android launcher here's all your apps um
7:12 what's that yes yeah it's fine i don't care
7:17 okay so can we change your language to english
7:20 let's see oh yeah you can change it
7:24 does it say change to english in chinese
7:27 because normally it says it in the yeah oh
7:31 there we go english now okay okay okay
7:36 okay thank you so overall impressions now that i've got
7:39 it running in english actually not a bad little device there's
7:43 still a lot of stuff that's not translated to be very clear i mean look
7:46 at this like all the game names under the emulator
7:50 menu are still in chinese uh for the
7:53 super famicom same for the n64 like
7:57 to be clear i would prefer if there was
8:00 something like a gen 2 of an NVIDIA shield but for the price you're paying
8:05 it's not bad if you're willing to go and like manually add google play services
8:10 in the google play store and all that stuff because the hardware is pretty good it's got a six thousand milliamp
8:15 hour battery so whether you're running Android games which should run better
8:19 than last gen or whether you're running emulators which mostly should run better
8:23 than last gen but certain ones like nintendo dolphin or wii emulators won't
8:28 run because they require a 64-bit processor um the screen is actually
8:32 surprisingly good so it's a 720p screen which personally i think is fine for a
8:37 size like this it's ips it supports five-point multi-touch uh the storage i
8:40 mentioned before is 32 gigs and it's expandable via microsd so i don't think
8:44 you're going to find yourself disappointed if you're looking for a
8:48 little device to play casual games and emulators on that you can throw in your
8:52 pocket carry around with you not worry too much about busting up because i don't think it's going to be that
8:57 expensive speaking of not being that expensive
9:00 ting the mobile carrier that puts customer satisfaction first with ting
9:05 you do not get put in a robot customer
9:09 service rep tree instead you speak directly to a human if you have any
9:13 issues and you do not pay a premium for that kind of service the average ting
9:18 bill is just 23 bucks a month per device and that's because you only pay for
9:23 exactly the air time that you use and
9:26 they've got new lower mobile data rates as well the best part about ting is you
