0:00 wow cyber monday we made it so
0:03 are we inside the computer now are you a tron
0:07 what do you think cyber monday is wow cyber stuff t-mobile says they've
0:13 officially launched america's first nationwide 5g network quote unquote
0:20 covering more than 1 million square miles and more than 200 million people
0:25 but wait a second the u.s has about 330
0:28 million people and 3.53 million square
0:31 miles i'm not an electromagnetic
0:36 spectromologist but that doesn't seem like a nationwide network to me james
0:40 unless t-mobile means that only people who can afford 5g phones and who live in
0:44 an area with coverage qualify as members of the nation that doesn't seem like a
0:49 nation at all it seems like an exclusive club just like the one i wasn't allowed
0:53 into on friday because of my insistence on bringing james dog with me who's
0:58 james dog it's a really cool guy now t-mobile's 4g
1:02 network covers 325 million people and it seems like the uncarrier is definitely
1:07 banking on that to fill out the gaps if you have a 5g phone you'll still have to
1:11 wait until friday to use its particular capabilities and even then you probably
1:15 won't see more than a 20 increase in speed as current 5g uses the same 600
1:20 megahertz spectrum as 4g that is if you're part of the nation that's
1:25 supposedly getting this nationwide coverage i mean i'm not even getting any
1:29 service in vancouver corporate fat cats
1:32 ah we're in canada oh
1:36 corporate fat beavers apple has now fully ingested or acquired
1:42 the smartphone modem department of Intel after announcing the meal i mean deal
1:47 back in july stupid the one billion deal leaves Intel
1:51 still able to work on 5g modems for non-smartphone devices like pcs and
1:55 vehicle systems the deal was born out of an interesting situation apple started
2:00 buying Intel modems in 2016 after its patent lawsuit with qualcomm got intense
2:05 meanwhile Intel was complaining about qualcomm's anti-competitive practices
2:09 including being a real hard ass about patent fees and supposed copyright
2:14 infringement which left team blue's mobile modem business dead in the water
2:17 however apple reached a 4.5 billion settlement with qualcomm in may so until
2:22 cupertino can develop an in-house modem with their new acquisition they'll
2:25 reportedly use qualcomm modems in future iphones and Intel has been left a little
2:30 salty about the whole ordeal supporting the ftc's investigation of qualcomm for
2:35 anti-competitive behavior even after their modem business was sold
2:39 man it is just not Intel's year i'm starting
2:42 to feel bad for for old bob swan and a fresh leak of the playstation 5 dev kit
2:47 has kicked off some discussion about the upcoming next-gen console war turns out
2:52 that wacky v-shaped design is real
2:56 and while the console will almost certainly look less early 2000s when it
3:00 launches next christmas people seem to be experiencing a bit of a
3:04 cyber truck moment with it like after your initial gag reflex hits
3:08 you start to realize well
3:12 you're right i love it the cooling system being on top could
3:15 work great even with the console sitting on a carpet or something the leaked picks led to some
3:19 commentators asking about the xbox project scarlet dev kit which is
3:24 reportedly not quite finished and in the hands of very few developers jason
3:29 schreier suggested that microsoft is trying to surprise sony this time
3:33 by not having the dev kit ready regardless
3:38 head of xbox game studio's matt booty
3:41 that is his real name told gamesradar that scarlett aims to be backwards
3:46 compatible with every xbox game which would be awesome it's probably just a
3:52 regular box without a cool v-shape though it's shaped like an x
3:57 now it's time for quick bits brought to you by brilliant yes earth will be

4:41 every time five bucks yep
4:45 the european space agency has approved the budget for their half of the
4:48 asteroid impact and deflection assessment or ida mission ida is a joint
4:53 mission set for 2027 in which nasa's dart probe would smash into the dual
4:58 asteroid system didymos didymus
5:02 creating an impact crater and a change in trajectory that would be analyzed by
5:06 the esa's hera that's a spacecraft it's a greek goddess
5:11 and that too and no this isn't the result of some astrophysicists getting
5:14 drunk and wanting to smash into stuff the point is to learn whether we could
5:18 prevent a deadly asteroid impact because the dinosaurs couldn't
5:22 even with all their technology
5:29 facebook has rolled out a new tool in ireland that will allow users to easily
5:32 transfer all of their facebook pictures to google photos why would they want to
5:37 do that i'm getting off the platform
5:42 how are you doing you'll never have me lucky picks
5:46 see you later well for one they want to do it to appease critics who accuse them of
5:50 having a social media monopoly plus if google has your photos too facebook can
5:55 point at them and say no see they're do they're doing it they're doing data
5:58 collection too it just might confuse europe enough to work sources inside
6:03 tiktok say the social video company has suppressed the distribution of posts by
6:07 users with disabilities videos by such
6:10 users were made to only appear in their country of origin or taken out of
6:14 circulation once they had a certain view count the move was ostensibly designed
6:18 to prevent these users from facing bullying or discrimination by
6:23 discriminating against them these antibodies let me get bullied by foreign
6:27 powers yeah the logic there is a little i only want to be bullied by locals
6:32 right then it's fine these anti-bullying policies have now been discontinued but
6:36 for me the damage is done i'm never tick-tocking again amazon has
6:41 joined microsoft and google in launching a quantum computing service even though
6:45 quantum computers are basically still in the research phase amazon is also
6:50 launching amazon transcribe medical an ai power transcription service that will
6:54 help doctors keep track of details during conversations with patients like
6:57 dosage amounts and symptoms wow neither of those things seem ready
7:02 for prime time prime oh like amazon i didn't even get that
7:07 you did it and a new update for super mario maker includes a master sword
7:11 power-up that turns mario into link
7:15 through some sort of dark sorcery link can block attacks with a shield and
7:19 attack with a sword arrows and bombs this is cool but guys link is not part
7:24 of the mario universe i was willing to forgive his inclusion in mario kart but
7:28 how much further can we go before every mario game is just super smash bros all
7:33 right well i guess that's it for this episode come back on monday for more
7:36 tech news everybody is monday
7:41 oh no it's cyber money
