today on my video blog I'll be unboxing the ever popular hx1000 now this is one
0:04
of Corsair's older models of power supplies but it's been such a staple for
0:09
a high-end power supply for a long time I thought what the hey lots of people
0:13
are going to look at this so we might as well unbox it so unlike their newer
0:17
units it has a 5year warranty which you can see on the front it's just regular
0:21
80 plus certified because back when this power supply came out we didn't have the
0:26
bronze silver gold ratings for power supplies although I believe it would
0:31
fall somewhere along the lines of where a 80 plus gold rating would be if it
0:36
were to be recertified today now let's get this open first of all let's have a
0:41
look at the rest of the box so the Box comes in multiple languages here let's
0:45
getting the plastic off actually let's have a quick look at the back where they
0:50
show you the amperage of all the
0:53
different rails so this has two 12vt
0:56
rails okay and they combine for a total of oh they're each on separate sort of
1:01
virtual rails on the power supply two separate sort of power supplies inside
1:06
here are each 500 wats and of those 12
1:09
volts 40 amps is dedicated to the 12vt rail on each there I finally got through
1:14
that okay so you can see we've got flat modular cables 140 mm fan truly
1:19
independent dual Transformer so that's what I was talking about two 500 watt
1:23
Transformers solid state 105° capacitors
1:27
and a DC todc converter okay that's great
1:30
so here we go let's get this thing open
1:33
so first of all we're going to find the user's manual which will contain information
1:39
excellent then we find the little case that Corsair uses with their modular
1:43
power supplies okay so this stores all of the
1:47
modular cables so why don't we go through and see what we've got here so
1:50
we've got one cable that's two SATA and then we have another cable that is also
1:56
to SATA okay and then we have how many
2:00
of these let's just track these down
2:03
here then we have four PCI Express 6
2:06
plus2 pin for of those then going a
2:10
little bit further we have okay let's get all the Molex ones out cuz then I
2:13
can get sort of a better idea of what I'm looking at here okay so we have two
2:18
dual MOX connectors so each of these have two MOX connectors and then we have
2:23
two quadruple MOX connectors that also
2:26
have a uh small four pin Floy connector
2:30
so two of those and then we've got finally we have a couple larger SATA
2:35
connectors so these each have four SATA connectors on them so you got two of
2:39
those and then last but not least just in case you have a motherboard such as
2:43
the x58 classified from EVGA that needs
2:46
two8 pin connectors you can plug this into one of your PCI Express modular
2:51
connectors and get dual EPS 8 Pin
2:54
connectors because and I'm about to get to the cables that are actually
3:00
directly attached to the power supply you have another EPS 8 pin connector
3:06
there so there you go so you can have up to two of those and then you'll also
3:09
find two more hardwired PCI Express 6 plus2 connectors cuz frankly if you're
3:14
buying a 1,000 W power supply and you're not using a high-end video card you need
3:17
to uh reexamine your priorities so it's a fairly thin 24 pin connector and it's
3:22
sleeved all the way up to the end and let's find out what other accessories we
3:26
got so here we have some zip ties of course case badge and four thumb screws
3:31
to put the power supply into the back of your case you got a nice beefy power
3:35
cable and let's finally get the unit
3:39
itself out of the box here take off the little oh it's taped down so that's not
3:43
going to be quite as easy as I thought there we go take that off so here is the
3:49
hx1000 so there you can see at the back we've got a fairly standard honeycomb
3:53
Grilla Arrangement there's your onoff switch there's your power plug and then
3:57
on the side you'll see it's an HX 1,000 WT duh so there's your branding there
4:02
then here is the 140 mm fan it's got a little uh plastic cover you can take
4:07
that off and the Corsair sticker here is actually quite shiny it looks really
4:11
cool if I could get this off in a reasonable amount of time yeah there we
4:14
go it's kind of shiny and then on the other side we will also find hx1000 wat
4:18
so this will be right side up whether it's a top mounted power supply or a
4:22
bottom mounted power supply as long as you're yeah that oh that's kind of smart
4:26
actually okay then here you're finding all of the specs okay and then on the
4:32
front of the unit itself here is all your modular connectors so you can
4:35
connect up to six of your Molex or SATA cables and then you can connect either
4:40
four more PCI Express for a total of six
4:43
or you can connect three more for a total of five and one EPS connector as
4:48
well so thank you for checking out my unboxing of the Corsair HX 1000 watt
