0:00 during our secret shopper project we discovered that while some pre-built
0:04 gaming systems offer a solid value in terms of their performance with Tier one
0:08 providers like HP and Dell you can often
0:11 run into proprietary parts limited upgrade ability and configurability and
0:16 questionable software load outs that can affect the overall experience so the
0:22 popularity of machines that are built from retail parts by smaller system
0:27 integrators like iBUYPOWER or main gear is understandable boutique builders in
0:32 particular don't always hit the best performance per dollar but what most of
0:37 these shops offer is a high degree of customize ability and more transparency
0:42 into the actual components you're buying now a lot of you watching our channel
0:48 would look down on the idea of buying a pre-built computer but consider this
0:53 what if a well-known and respected manufacturer came out offering the type
0:59 of system that would be similar to what you would end up configuring for
1:02 yourself and at a reasonable price offering a turnkey solution with a solid
1:08 warranty well that is what Corsair tried to do with the Vengeance gaming PC 50
1:14 180 let's see if it's worth your
1:17 hard-earned money Thursday boots is a
1:20 bootstrap startup that handcrafts boots using the highest quality materials and
1:25 then sells them at an honest price what a business model right they offer free
1:30 shipping and returns and you can check them out at Thursday boots comm /l tt
1:34 we'll have that linked below
1:44 so let us cover the four pillars of any gaming system price quality performance
1:49 and support which together help us determine the value of this thing after
1:55 spread shooting the components all together and checking non sale prices
1:58 through both Amazon and Newegg it turned out that the prices of the parts came to
2:03 just over $2,100 this means that Corsair
2:07 is marking up this machine 12 to 13 percent or about $300 over regular
2:12 Street pricing but it's not time to make
2:15 a final judgment here just yet first let's dig a little deeper Corsairs
2:21 markup also includes assembly and two years of warranty support on the
2:26 completed system and check this out Corsair has multiple RMA centers for
2:31 their machines so depending where you're located you might not end up having to
2:35 ship the machine which is currently only available directly from Corsair all the
2:39 way back to them if you run into an issue what's even better is they'll
2:43 cover shipping both to and from the service depot and they'll even send you
2:48 replacement packaging if you tossed out your original box that's pretty rad at
2:52 least on paper when it comes to the next
2:55 pillar quality well we'll start with that aforementioned packaging our array
3:00 arrives protected with open celled foam and had this peered contraption to
3:05 ensure that the graphics card wouldn't snap out of the slot you know it's kind
3:10 of ghetto looking but hey if it works it
3:14 isn't stupid so no complaints there cabling was neat on the front and
3:19 tightly bundled on the back chamber and we didn't have really I mean any gripes
3:23 with the machines construction quality overall we did wonder why they would use
3:28 a 240 millimeter AIO to cool a non k
3:32 processor in a B Series board but the
3:36 answer here is most likely for the looks and a single 120 millimeter cooler would
3:42 have made the system look kind of asymmetrical the only thing that really
3:46 stood out here was Corsairs use of an 80 plus bronze
3:49 750 watt power supply now to be clear
3:52 it's a decent 2nd gen unit from their CX
3:56 series and five year warranty so I guess the logic
4:00 here was that more people would care to have 750 watts than would care if it had
4:05 higher efficiency which is a trade that they could have easily made moving on to
4:10 the performance in a massive surprise - absolutely no one in games our machine
4:17 performed exactly as a core i7 eighty seven hundred plus an RT X twenty eighty
4:23 should turbo boost on our CPU worked correctly our GPU reached anywhere from
4:28 1935 to 1950 megahertz while gaming and
4:31 we never heard more than a low hum from
4:34 the direction of the tower no cooling issues and no weird fan ramping behavior
4:40 or anything like that to report it's almost like Corsair has a lot of
4:44 experience when it comes to PC cooling now as for storage our SSD uses a fine
4:49 controller and it sits on an X two PCI
4:52 Express laws so as expected that puts it somewhere in between a SATA SSD and an
4:57 enthusiast class NVMe one and while Corsair applied no performance
5:02 optimizations to the UEFI BIOS no factory profile saved even everything
5:06 worked out of the box without an issue now when it comes to pre-purchase and
5:11 post-purchase support well we didn't have a chance to actually test the
5:16 latter due to this being a review unit which was not secret shoppers so we
5:20 couldn't stage a tech support scenario or anything like that maybe in the
5:24 future let us know in the comments if you'd like to see that and as for
5:28 pre-purchase support well disappointingly it actually does not
5:33 exist at all you see Corsair presently
5:37 has just four machines available on their site all of them none configurable
5:42 with the other three being Corsair ones with the closest configuration their
5:47 commanding a much higher price while using the same class of graphics card
5:51 maybe ok conspiracy theory moment here
5:55 maybe Corsair doesn't want to have a sales rep because that person would just
5:58 spend all day down selling customers to the Vengeance I don't know that's pure
6:02 speculation anyway let's get back to the value conversation because it's the most
6:06 complicated part of this video compared to configuring a system over on
6:11 iBUYPOWER trying to include as many of the same components as possible corks
6:16 airs pricing actually looks really solid for our vengeance PC but that doesn't
6:21 necessarily mean I'm happy with it before I can explain why we need a
6:26 little bit of history now in spite of their wide portfolio covering the vast
6:31 majority of PC components from cooling
6:34 to cases to RAM and storage Corsair
6:38 surprised everyone when they introduced the Corsair 1 a fully integrated ready
6:43 to ship system like Windows pre-installed in everything for gamers
6:47 not because anyone thought they weren't capable I mean obviously there are
6:52 plenty of people at Corsair who know how to assemble a gaming tower but rather
6:56 for business reasons by branching out
6:59 into completed systems Corsair stood to alienate the same partners system
7:05 integrators like main gear and ibuypower who I mentioned before that they rely on
7:09 for a significant chunk of their business by effectively competing with
7:14 them directly and potentially unfairly since Corsair
7:19 obviously has more profit margin on a
7:22 Corsair power supply than a reseller of
7:26 Corsair power supplies could now Corsair
7:29 story at the time was the one is unique it's too difficult to assemble to offer
7:34 this chassis as a standalone case so it doesn't really compete with anyone elses
7:38 offerings but like this one
7:42 this is the Vengeance PC a fully built
7:46 gaming PC from Corsair using all
7:49 off-the-shelf components so is it a great value
7:55 well it is if you were gonna buy exactly
7:59 these parts anyway but it's not if you
8:03 were the kind of person who was more likely to spend their hard-earned money
8:06 on raw performance so Corsair was in
8:10 kind of a unique position here to use some of the extra profit margin that
8:14 they gained by being the manufacturer of both the components and the finished
8:18 system to deliver great performance and
8:22 flashy aftermarket looks but by choosing
8:26 a non overclockable CPU and a B 360
8:29 motherboard at this price point I do feel like they fell a little short of
8:35 that goal if that was their goal and you
8:38 know I have to wonder if maybe this was on purpose to avoid disrupting the
8:42 market whatever reason there was for it the
8:46 good news is that we have no qualms about the quality of the system or
8:50 Corsairs ongoing existence if you ever need support so as they continue to
8:55 expand into this business I think vengeance gaming pcs are gonna get only
8:59 more interesting to gamers as time go on that is the ones that don't feel like
9:04 DIY either for themselves or for their friends because as it goes with
9:10 pre-built you could get a faster computer if you built it yourself then
9:15 again maybe of course they're doesn't care I'm sure they'd be happy to sell you their components - excuse me
9:21 master Ops vast curved gaming monitor is
