0:00 server racks they're kind of like knock to a fans or construction equipment in
0:06 that the only people they're winning any style points with are the folks who have
0:10 this like deep appreciation for utility
0:16 that's the way it's always been and that's the way that it looked like it
0:20 was going to be forever until now clay
0:24 Tech a division of iar USA with whom
0:28 we've worked in the past on our surveillance server our pfSense router
0:33 that we DIY over a span of months as well as our off-site backup server has
0:38 actually designed and manufactured a
0:42 piece of what they're calling it
0:46 Furniture the WT retro style
0:51 rack so let's have a look and see what
0:55 one of those is
1:07 zot GTX 1080 mini is extremely Compact
1:12 and Powerful measuring just 8.3 in in
1:16 length check it out at the link in the video
1:19 description I actually have no idea how much these things cost I have no idea
1:25 how many of them have been made they are listed as build to order on the clay Tac
1:30 site but what I do know is that like for
1:35 a company whose experience is mostly in building black nondescript
1:41 boxes the craftsmanship is looking not
1:44 bad all right Brandon you win your battle it looks like we're taking this
1:47 tablecloth off
1:54 fine here it is
2:01 oh man that's
2:11 heavy very well packed that's for sure
2:15 so they've actually got a bunch of different models available everything
2:18 from a very very small very shallow
2:23 cabinet all the way to one that's actually quite a bit larger and deeper
2:27 than this one so I went for a 9 U 450 mm
2:33 so that's 45 cm deep cabinet so
2:38 obviously something like this wouldn't be suitable for mounting you know like
2:44 uh like a really long storage server or
2:48 anything like that but if you're looking for a super cool place to put some AV
2:55 Equipment or uh you know some Network
2:58 switches or or you know a very very small machine this is looking pretty
3:04 good let's flip it over so I've clearly
3:08 got it upside down okay so the craftsmanship is not
3:13 perfect um you know Steve Jobs you know
3:18 cable managed the inside of you know laptops and phones probably wouldn't be
3:23 that impressed with the uh the wood trim not meeting up here and with these kind
3:30 uh unimpressive plastic feet but let's
3:34 go ahead and turn it over and see what the tops like maybe it makes up for it
3:38 in the parts that you actually see so
3:42 much like a sort of retro styled trunk or case you've got uh is
3:50 this actual leather they're actually leather I mean
3:55 I guess it's one of those things where if you're going to go rward you might as
3:59 well go full full RW so the handles on
4:03 the sides the corner protectors here and here are all genuine leather now ah
4:12 let's put some gear in it shall
4:17 we it's about a half an hour till WAN Show so I'm thinking uh let's put all of
4:23 our audio equipment in it what could go wrong Focus rate just set us up with
4:26 this stuff and this is a this is exactly the the kind of thing that I would
4:30 expect someone to put in a piece of you
4:34 know rack equipment like
4:38 this remember kids always take a picture of the back
4:44 before disassembling something that you don't know how to put back
4:48 together sh
4:52 sh
4:58 sh it's M5 threaded rather than having
5:02 um like what you'd see in a full-size cabinet with the inserts on the back and
5:07 the much heavier threading so I really
5:10 wouldn't recommend mounting anything super heavy in here but man once you get
5:16 some actual gear in here I don't know what it is about the aesthetic of like
5:22 audio equipment and this retro kind of charm
5:27 that we got going on here but I think this thing looks really cool actually I
5:32 had a thought I've got this chassis
5:35 sitting around from uh actually it's an iar USA chassis that I was supposed to
5:40 do a project with and never got around to it um and it looks like no that was a
5:47 bit of an oversight when it comes to the design of
5:51 this thing so 1 two 3 one two 3 one two
5:55 3 one two 3 yeah so if they had thought
5:58 of it they could have made it so that the bottom Hol is lined up perfectly for
6:03 something to sit right on the bottom but as it is you would actually have to
6:08 support it off of these screws which I I
6:12 don't think would be recommended however
6:15 if you did just want to like ghetto mount it then you could throw some kind
6:21 of a storage machine or some kind of a processing machine down here in the
6:24 bottom no big deal okay I got a couple more things I got a network switch and
6:30 our old ice scuzzy box here just to fill it up have a look at what that's going
6:34 to look like and uh oh man yeah see this one
6:41 this network switch is pretty heavy and you
6:46 go a I put it in upside
6:51 down ah whatever yeah that lineus guy
6:55 what does he know about rack mounting things let's put this baby in
7:02 that looks so cool I love
7:07 it it's like freaking amazing it's like
7:11 on the one side it's like oldfashioned
7:14 and retro and the other side it's like oh my
7:19 goodness look at all these dials and
7:22 buttons but now the final
7:25 Benchmark those leather handles how do they hold up to it actually being
7:32 loaded oh okay hold
7:35 on you know what I'm going heavy side
7:39 heavy side on my
7:42 side okay hold
7:45 on have you ever thought to yourself hm
7:49 what would it be like if I wanted to talk to my you know mobile carrier and I
7:53 called them up and just got put through directly to someone who's ready to talk
7:57 to me well then you probably use Ting
8:00 cuz that's exactly what happens Ting is all about customer satisfaction first
8:05 you call in you talk to a person and you pay for only what you use with the
8:10 average Ting bill being only 23 bucks a month they've got lower mobile data

8:20 25% of your cancellation fee from your existing plan up to 75 bucks pretty cool

8:35 25 bucks towards a new device or in service credit woo listing.com
8:42 do not even lift okay so the handles are
8:45 holding up fine but I don't think I can move it on my own
8:51 anymore so thank you for checking out today's episode of holy sh the most
