0:00 - Oh boy, the Oculus Quest two.
0:05 I've been really excited for this because I don't know if you guys know,
0:09 but I've been exercising at home with the original Oculus Quest plan, beat saver, fit X,
0:18 I don't even remember what it's called, the boxing one. Yeah, it's one of my favorite things,
0:23 pieces of tech to come out in quite some time so I was excited when Oculus said they were making
0:27 a Quest two and now we have it here.
0:31 Oh, and thanks to Oculus for sponsoring this video. Now, one of the reasons the original Quest was so cool
0:36 is because it can be both a standalone VR headset
0:40 and a PC VR headset. When we did the Linus tech video on this,
0:44 me and Linus said that it was like, it's kind of like the Nintendo Switch of VR.
0:48 I think this might even solidify that placement a bit more.
0:54 So enough preamble, let's open the box.
0:58 Okay, very exciting and there she is. So they went with a white color scheme this time,
1:03 which I have to say I appreciate as a minimalist.
1:08 Check out that video if you don't know what I'm talking about. So yeah, look at that.
1:13 Oh, very nice. Oh, a little letter. When was the last time you played for real, man?
1:19 (grunting) What's going on?
1:23 Ah. (laughing)
1:26 what's this? A shirt?
1:30 Play for real. Hey, I'm filming over here, guys.
1:34 - [Jono] He's playing for real dude. - I will! And what else we got?
1:37 And a hoodie. Wow, whoa, we got all the swag.
1:42 A stainless steel bottle, play for real.
1:47 Okay, to be clear, that was really nice of Oculus
1:50 to send us that stuff, but this is probably not what you're gonna get when you just buy the regular
1:54 consumer version of the headset. Just so you know, just so you don't have some
1:57 false expectations, you know? Okay, that's all that's in the box.
2:01 I'm ready to play for real.
2:04 Let's go! Okay, oh boy, that is, I mean, it's a nice looking headset.
2:15 So the previous quest was black and it also had kinda this matte finish.
2:20 But this is real nice, I like that they kinda switched it up. Okay, so they got this guide for the IPD adjustment
2:26 inter pupilary distance which is something,
2:30 if you've never played VR, that's something you need to adjust to make things
2:33 the clearest because we all have different spaces between where our eyes sit.
2:37 On the old Quest, there was like a slider, a physical slider to change that number,
2:44 and on this one, it looks like you physically
2:47 move them with your hands. I believe there are three positions, yeah.
2:52 There's kind of like a far apart, a middle one, and then close together.
2:56 We also have this glasses spacer which I will need to use because I'm wearing glasses.
3:00 So I'm just gonna put that on actually right now. Okay, this goes in there.
3:06 Oh, nice clicks. Great, I'm just gonna put that on.
3:11 Actually no, I'm not gonna put it on yet, first let's talk about the controllers.
3:15 Okay, so I think that more or less,
3:18 these are a very similar design to the first Quest,
3:22 but it has a bigger ring and I think that the overall controllers are bigger as well.
3:27 So, oh, the battery door. This is something I believe that they worked on
3:31 because there were some complaints with the original Quest about the battery door sliding off really easily
3:38 because it was like a magnetic attachment. But this one, it's definitely more secure.
3:43 Yeah, it clicks into place not with magnets, with like a little plastic doohickey so that's good.
3:48 Okay, and finally the last thing is this box
3:51 which has reference guide for how to get started and stuff.
3:57 I think I already know how. And we got the USBC power adapter and USBC power cord.
4:05 Now, I don't believe that this is meant for Oculus Link
4:10 which probably makes sense 'cause it's only this long. So you won't be able to connect to your PC
4:14 and have a comfortable VR experience that way. And you might ask, why didn't Oculus include
4:19 an Oculus link-capable cord in the box
4:22 that was long enough for you to be able to play PC VR. I mean, you know, they gotta make some compromises
4:27 some places because remember this is a 299 headset,
4:31 that's a hundred dollars cheaper than the first Quest for the 64 gig model.
4:35 So you know, I can understand it.
4:38 The sweatbands work great to kind of be a cushion between the straps, maybe some lttstore sweatbands
4:44 just if you're gonna get a Quest two, okay, it can help a lot. The physical design of the headset is very similar;
4:49 it's got a power button on the right side, USBC and headphone jack on the left side,
4:53 and four sensors for tracking and the pass through
4:56 plus feature which lets you see through into the real world. Now this is one of the coolest, I can actually
5:01 see you right now because of the pass through feature. Look, I'm gonna come right up to Andy and go.
5:06 (laughs) I love you man. I will say that I was a little disappointed
5:11 not to see the old strap design return, but this one is very comfortable.
5:15 The other one kinda has that plastic on the side that turns into.
5:19 Actually the back is hard plastic on the original Quest as well. So I understand why they did this now because
5:23 it is a little bit more comfortable having this fabric strap instead of a plastic crown
5:29 on your head. Guardian feature, so one of the coolest things about the original Quest was the fact that
5:34 it's built in tracking and the Rift S has built in tracking as well.
5:38 But the cool thing about the Quest is that you're not tethered to a PC. So you can make your area as large as you want
5:44 with no consideration for a cord going to anything.
5:50 I'm gonna make it the entire area, even where you're standing, Andy. The other cool thing is that you can walk around
5:55 in this space, look at how big my space is.
5:58 Now, my other initial impression right off the bat is that things do look significantly sharper.
6:05 So the Quest two has two LCD displays,
6:09 the resolutions of which are 1832 by 1920, is that right?
6:14 At launch, the refresh rate is 72 hertz
6:18 which is the same as the original Quest, but they're gonna send out an update soon that
6:22 will enable 90 hertz. And so one of the reasons that they were able
6:26 to up the specs in that way, to support more resolution and refresh rate
6:29 is because they're using the snapdragon XR2 chip
6:32 which is made specifically for virtual reality
6:35 and augmented reality applications. I know you guys want me to try Beat Saber.
6:40 I can feel you thinking that, but I wanna try Vader Immortal first
6:44 because it's Star Wars and it's an amazing experience.
6:47 Okay, yeah, your hands definitely look,
6:51 like things look sharper. Like, I can see like the leather stitching and stuff
6:56 on the gloves. Oh, it's a light saber!
7:00 Oh, there we go. Oh, now I have a light saber and a blaster.
7:14 (laughing) That is just as amazing as I enjoyed it the first time.
7:20 I gotta say, one thing I did, they said that the headset is 10% lighter.
7:24 I'd say that's an accurate claim. As you guys probably gathered,
7:28 the fact that I just played an original Quest title means that the Quest two is backwards compatible
7:33 with all Quest content as well as the Oculus PC VR games
7:40 that you can play through Oculus link. Let's play something else.
7:44 Beat saber! Oh my gosh, people are gonna get so mad at me, I'm doing so,
7:48 what?! So Beat Saber's really good for testing
7:55 the speed of tracking because you know,
7:59 I can't talk and do this at the same time.
8:03 Oh my god. (laughing)
8:07 I failed again. Okay, so the reason (laughing)
8:11 The reason that I'm failing, I would guess, is not the fault of the Quest; it's definitely mine
8:17 because I've only played this game like once. Super hot.
8:21 Oh my God. I killed him.
8:25 I killed him!
8:30 Dead, dude. Okay, the other thing is I have this giant space
8:33 that normally you don't have.
8:37 Oh, give me this, give me that gun.
8:41 Bottle to the face and this guy's frickin dead,
8:45 dude, you're dead. Well, I gotta say as a regular Quest one user,
8:51 my experience today with the Quest two has been pretty impressive.
8:55 Now, one thing I haven't really mentioned is that you do have to log in with a Facebook account
8:59 if you're gonna use the Quest two and I believe by 2023 if you wanna use any Oculus product,
9:05 you will have to use your Facebook account to log in.
9:08 And once you do that, it'll be permanently merged. There are other VR options on the market
9:13 if that's not something that floats your boat. However, this is super compelling.
9:18 If you've never tried the Quest or PC VR
9:22 and you've tried like Oculus Go, it's completely different.
9:25 This is a fully immersive room scale standing
9:31 VR controller hand presence VR experience.
9:35 Now, one major thing we did not look at today was Oculus Link: the ability to also function
9:40 as a PC VR headset. And we are gonna be looking into that more in depth
9:44 in an LTT video so make sure you're subscribed. Stay tuned for that video and thanks to Oculus
9:50 for sponsoring that video, this video. I'll see you in the next one.
9:56 Play for real! (laughing)
