0:00 Razer is calling the edge or Edge Pro depending on which skew you go for the
0:05 first tablet truly designed for gamers welcome to Linus Tech tips at CES 2013
0:10 our trip to the show this year is powered by Corsair maker of quality PC
0:14 components and peripherals our trusted storage partner is Seagate technology
0:18 and our trusted networking partner is
0:23 linkis now there's a number of different models available they start at $9.99
0:27 that gets you a core i5 with 8 gigs RAM a 64 gig SSD although remember guys it's
0:32 a Windows 8 tablet so in terms of actual usable storage space you're looking at
0:36 about 32 gigs left over okay it has a GT
0:40 640m in fact all of the models have that the highest end model is at $14.99 gets
0:45 you a 256 gig SSD as well as a core i7
0:48 and then the one in between did I say 1499 I me 1449 and then there's a $1299
0:53 model that gets you a core i7 with a 128
0:56 gig SSD so there's a pretty natural progression here in terms of price
0:59 points the unit is capable of running as you can see dirt showdown it is actually
1:04 gaming capable or at least as gaming capable as a lightweight laptop with any
1:09 kind of a GT 640m type of GPU in it in terms of expansion they've got a whole
1:14 bunch of really cool accessories so they're actually bundle packs where you
1:17 can get it with the controller that you see this gentleman using right here that
1:20 fits the tablet inside of it and then adds what is that two analog sticks a
1:25 d-pad as well as buttons that you can push it looks like there are some
1:29 shoulder pads shoulder keys up at the top as well and we're going to get over
1:33 there in a moment anyway so here we're just running it with the little dock
1:37 station you can see how smooth it's running actually that I'm going to turn
1:42 this away from you so you're going to crash for sure adds extra expandability
1:46 to the unit so you can add three USB ports you can add HDMI headphones
1:50 microphone and this right here is for power you can see there's two vents on
1:55 the back for cooling you've got a volume rocker up here as well as you know what
1:59 I'm just going to pull it right off the dock on you here okay power here power
2:04 input here that looks like USB 3 USB 3.0
2:08 speakers down here on the bottom are in Stereo so if you're holding it the way
2:11 you'd normally hold a tablet you're going to get decent audio out of it unlike apple with their older iPad
2:17 speakers where it's like right under where you hold the tablet which is ridiculous and I would like
2:23 to emphasize that while it is capable of
2:27 running hard look at that it goes right away while it is cap of running hardcore
2:30 games like this guys it's not going to run forever on battery life we're
2:35 looking at a couple hours of battery life if you're running an allout 3D
2:38 title but what you're getting is the versatility so it is a Windows 8 tablet
2:42 running GeForce GPU and Intel processor that means you can run anything you want
2:45 on it you're not limited to Plants versus Zombies but you could still play
2:49 Plants versus Zombies if you wanted it's also available with a keyboard Dock and
2:53 we're going to actually cut this and show you that in just a moment now the
2:57 keyboard Dock's not coming till Q3 it will make the unit a little a little bit
3:00 bigger I realized I didn't talk much about the overall thickness and weight
3:04 but you can see this gentleman over here is actually using it fairly comfortably
3:08 what would you say about the weight sir uh pretty hefty pretty hefty yeah okay
3:14 would you be able to would would you would you say it's more optimized for
3:17 something like sitting on a couch or would you ride the bus with it or well that's what I was just figuring out like
3:21 holding it up is really difficult but if you aim it down like it it's clearly
3:25 meant for sitting in your lap or you know uh you know on the couch you know
3:30 it's definitely not something you hold up like this got it all right thank you
3:33 for your fair and unbiased feedback he had no idea we were going to do that to
3:36 him so the point is that there will be a variety of docks available with it this
3:40 is a keyboard dock that's the GamePad dock they've got expansion docks there's
3:44 going to be an expansion dock that comes that enables more IO and all kinds of
3:47 good stuff like that but peripherals are going to come out for it over time I
3:52 want to actually drift us back over to the original one we checked
3:55 out so that I can show you guys with my
3:58 trademark iPhone comparison how thick the unit is now most Windows 8 x86 or
4:05 x64 tablets are a little bit thicker than the ARM-based ones that it's
4:09 something we' come to expect this one is thicker than those but remember guys
4:13 this has a dedicated GPU in it not an igp and I could actually this is cool
4:18 Razer didn't tell me this but all of the heat being generated is here these are
4:23 still cool to the touch very nice touch
4:26 because this has been sitting here running dirt showdown which which means
4:30 that if it's not hot now it's not getting hot thank you for checking out
4:34 the razor oh shoot I forget what it's Razor Edge check thank you for checking
