0:00 chances are likely that many of you have heard the term radar before so many
0:04 movies contain a scene where someone looks over in distress and says Captain
0:07 the ship's radar is picking up an unidentified object headed our Direction
0:11 while examples including aircraft Pilots may be the most readily available to
0:14 some of us the definition of radar actually allots for pretty well any
0:18 device which detects and tracks the speed size or movement of objects all
0:23 Radars operate by using a similar technique of sending pulses of radio
0:27 waves to illuminate potential objects these RAR pulses are either dispersed or
0:32 reflected back by the objects they contact which is then detected by a
0:36 receiver received data is then calculated in one of many complex
0:39 Fashions to determine varying statistics about the detected object it wasn't
0:43 until somewhere around the 1940s during World War II that military science
0:47 figured out how to use the Doppler effect for more accurate detections you
0:51 know the Doppler effect that thing you heard of in
0:56 school anyway before this point in time multiple radar units were necessary for
1:01 calculating an object's speed and travel Direction which was accomplished by
1:05 comparing signal return times at different points over several instances
1:09 then coordinating the data to determine a bogi's trajectory but by also
1:13 measuring the vares in a return signal caused by interaction with the moving
1:18 object Engineers discovered that they were able to determine an object's
1:21 velocity more quickly precisely and with smaller individual units that could
1:25 employ microwaves instead of radio waves
1:28 this eventually led to the Poler based weather systems you may have heard about
1:32 on the local news another cliche movie scene you might have encountered is the
1:35 one where the guy says sir they're jamming our radar signal that's not just
1:39 Hollywood nonsense though radar jamming is done by broadcasting another radar
1:44 signal on the same frequency which overwhelms the enemy's detector it's
1:48 kind of like trying to see fireflies in front of a spotlight radar interference
1:52 can also happen accident when radar systems on the same frequency are
1:56 located too closely together another common problem with radar functionality
2:00 has to do with signal variations or noise which can result from naturally
2:05 existing external conditions like thermal radiation or from internal
2:09 conditions such as a result of the signal amplification process radar can
2:14 also be physically blocked by things like buildings or Hills or mountains or
2:18 even the curvature of the earth which is one reason why planes will sometimes fly
2:22 low to the ground to avoid radar detection even though radar Technologies
2:26 and the problems which plague them are not exactly the newest Kids on the Block
2:30 that doesn't mean they don't have the right stuff our abilities to monitor
2:33 things in increasingly sophisticated ways is constantly leading to
2:36 improvements we can see in our daily lives such as better abilities to track
2:41 live weather and traffic conditions for the purposes of safety and
2:44 transportation and ground penetrating radar systems which provide insight into
2:48 the structure of geological areas or objects for purposes like excavation
2:53 manufacturing or military information collection there is no doubt that
2:57 advancements in radar technology will only continue to to expand our Horizons
3:01 and if you're looking to expand the horizons of your mind then maybe you
3:06 should look into oh can you guess it can you guess what it's going to be uh Ah
3:10 that's right linda.com linda.com is a great source for instructional videos on
3:14 a huge range of topics like web development photography visual design
3:18 business and more plus software training for programs like Excel WordPress
3:23 Photoshop and all these other ones that I don't have time to mention all their
3:26 thousands of courses are taught by industry experts and the videos come with trans scripts and project files if
3:31 you spring for those there are beginner intermediate and advanced courses so
3:35 there's always something new to learn and at least in the courses that I've
3:39 taken everything is covered very thoroughly leaving no gaps in your
3:42 knowledge which is exactly what will happen uh if you try to piece this stuff
3:46 together on your own oh and they have iPhone and Android apps as well so if
3:51 you're interested in learning new skills or Hobbies or whatever you can go to
3:54 linda.com tequ and get a free 10-day trial and see for yourself what they
4:00 have to offer without any risk to you you're welcome so that's it guys thanks
4:04 for watching like or dislike this video If You must uh share comment subscribe
