0:00 Today we have one laptop and two screens.
0:04 It's gonna be fricking weird.
0:05 And huge thanks to ASUS for sponsoring us.
0:07 First of all, they gave us this very nice
0:09 little laptop sleeve.
0:11 It says ZenBook on it.
0:12 And I don't think it's real leather, but who cares?
0:15 No animals had to die.
0:17 What else do we have?
0:20 Okay, bets.
0:21 Type C, not type C.
0:24 Not type C.
0:25 I'll say type C.
0:26 Okay, I'm saying type C.
0:32 Oh, 180 watts, nevermind.
0:34 Barrel charger.
0:35 Oh, what is this?
0:36 Oh, we get a pen.
0:37 The ASUS Pen 2.0.
0:40 Apparently it has 4,096 pressure sensitivity points.
0:45 They have different tips that come with it.
0:46 I don't know if you can see that right there.
0:50 What a nice box.
0:52 ASUS has done a really good job lately with their packaging.
0:56 That's upside down.
1:04 Oh.
1:05 Oh yeah, look at this, David.
1:11 Fancy.
1:13 This is not a cheap laptop.
1:14 This is a very expensive laptop.
1:17 This is the laptop.
1:17 Where like your friends all have MacBooks
1:20 and you want to flex on them.
1:24 I was honestly hoping that there's a CD in here
1:25 for some reason.
1:28 I don't know.
1:29 Just the way that it was packaged made me think of a CD.
1:31 Oh, what's this?
1:34 Like actually, what is this?
1:35 It's a stand.
1:36 It's a laptop stand.
1:38 Let's see.
1:39 Have we even mentioned this is ZenBook Duo 14 yet?
1:42 Oh, well it is.
1:45 And it's IO.
1:46 Wait.
1:48 Oh, weird.
1:49 The IO is actually pretty good.
1:50 I was kind of concerned there at first
1:52 because on the left side, you only have the headphone jack.
1:55 Although I guess that is a feature now.
1:58 Around back, there's a micro SD card reader,
2:02 power input, and an HDMI port.
2:05 And around the other side,
2:06 we have two Thunderbolt 4 ports and USB type A.
2:10 Oh, and it is HDMI 2.1.
2:12 Wicked.
2:13 That's a really solid loadout.
2:15 The only thing that I kind of wish is that the USB type A port
2:19 was not on the right-hand side right there,
2:23 just because then if you plug in a mouse to it,
2:24 that's wired, it'll get in the way of your hand.
2:28 But also so many mice,
2:29 and especially if you can afford this thing,
2:30 like just get a wireless mouse.
2:32 Before we open it up,
2:33 I really like the finish on the back of this.
2:35 I don't know if you can really tell on the camera,
2:36 but it's like brushed aluminum,
2:38 but with a circle around their little A logo here.
2:43 Zoom in here, Dave.
2:43 We got to get the action the first time it's opened.
2:57 Oh, ah, fancy.
3:01 Yeah, you could probably even put like,
3:02 I don't know what the resolution of this bottom display is,
3:04 but you could have like two YouTube videos down there
3:08 while you're like watching something else up here.
3:10 These are incredibly weird resolutions.
3:14 So the top screen is 14 and a half inches,
3:17 2080 by 1800,
3:18 and the bottom is 2080 by 864 for some reason.
3:27 12.7 inches on the bottom.
3:29 This one's a touchscreen.
3:30 Is this one touchscreen?
3:31 It is.
3:32 Yeah, these are some fine looking displays.
3:34 The bottom one I'm not totally sure how I feel about yet,
3:37 but this top OLED display looks fantastic.
3:40 The contrast on it is just incredible
3:43 and they have picked a great background to show it off
3:47 the first time that you open it up.
3:51 I do usually complain about OLED on laptops
3:53 and I'm going to complain about the bottom one
3:55 because it's very obvious what's wrong.
3:56 It just looks weird.
4:00 The problem that I'm seeing is just that
4:01 in the areas where it's white,
4:04 it's really grainy.
4:05 Which is a problem that I've had quite a few times before
4:08 on OLED with touchscreens,
4:10 because something with,
4:12 I don't know exactly what's on the go,
4:14 but my guess is that the digitizer doesn't quite line up
4:17 with the sub pixels correctly
4:19 and it creates kind of a weird screen door effect
4:22 kind of thing.
4:23 Yeah, I guess it kind of depends on how you think of it.
4:26 Cause as far as displays that I've had on laptops before,
4:31 this is not the best,
4:33 but as far as displays that I've had,
4:35 and track pads before,
4:37 this is exceptional.
4:39 So I guess it depends on how you think of it in that way.
4:42 I also don't quite understand it
4:43 because whatever the problems are with the bottom display,
4:46 the top one, there's none of that.
4:48 The top display just looks awesome.
4:50 Okay, so I can see it.
4:52 You're not going to be able to see it on the display,
4:53 but on an all white display,
4:55 you can see like the digitizer and the sub pixels
4:58 kind of looking a little bit weird,
5:00 but at the same time,
5:00 that's only going to be a problem
5:03 when you're looking at an all white display.
5:05 Oh, a little thingy just came up.
5:07 I have settings for my second display.
5:11 Are you able to see that, David?
5:12 So we have battery saver on this display.
5:17 Oh yeah, I guess that having two displays
5:19 wouldn't be great for your battery life.
5:21 Brightness, oh, let's make it full bright.
5:23 Oh, nevermind.
5:24 I accidentally turned it off.
5:25 Brightness, all the way up.
5:29 There's also another button here that changes which display
5:32 the window you're currently working on is on.
5:34 Handwriting, huh?
5:36 What's this do?
5:36 Is this easier than typing?
5:43 Well, I guess it depends on how good you are at typing.
5:45 I could type a lot faster than this,
5:46 but like, can my nan?
5:48 I'm not sure.
5:53 This is a pre-production sample,
5:54 so things might just not work also.
5:58 Oh no, it kind of looks like it's just dead.
5:59 Okay, we'll give that a second.
6:01 How is the keyboard?
6:02 The keyboard's kind of strange.
6:04 So there's, as you can see, no palm rest whatsoever.
6:09 So your hands kind of just like sit on the table.
6:12 Actually, can we get one of those?
6:13 Just like fancy plush palm rest things.
6:17 I don't think you need it now that I have my hands just here,
6:20 but I want to see how it feels.
6:25 There's a little bit of typing and this is fantastic.
6:27 The key switches are awesome.
6:29 I don't know.
6:30 They just nailed the keyboard on this.
6:31 Aside from it being kind of weird that my hands are just
6:34 sitting on the table instead of on the actual computer,
6:37 I am totally happy with this.
6:39 The only thing that I might want to change is that the
6:43 space bar is a bit sloppy.
6:45 As for the track pad.
6:46 I'm not quite as happy about it,
6:51 but I understand what they're doing.
6:52 So as you can see, it's about three fingers wide
6:58 and six fingers tall.
7:01 Kind of strange.
7:03 Let's have the little tiny buttons down here
7:05 for right and left click.
7:07 It isn't as bad as you'd expect.
7:09 If I'm honest, this is what,
7:10 it shocked me the first time that I had a Zephyrus
7:12 that had the track pad down here on the side.
7:15 It's a lot more functional
7:17 than you would expect.
7:18 Oh, do we have a wrist rest?
7:20 Heck yeah.
7:22 This is not the best wrist rest that I've ever seen.
7:26 This is just worse.
7:28 I don't even need to type.
7:29 Yeah, you don't need a wrist rest.
7:31 It's more comfortable without it.
7:32 Anyway, in this thing,
7:34 you get an i9-12900H for the processor.
7:37 That is six performance cores and eight efficiency cores
7:41 for a total of 20 threads.
7:44 That's a lot of fricking horsepower for something that is,
7:48 this large and especially this large
7:50 and having two displays.
7:52 And for the GPU, we have an NVIDIA RTX 3050 Ti.
8:01 Okay, so now you can watch your
8:04 how to beat the first boss guide on one display
8:07 while you play the game on the other.
8:10 This is sweet.
8:12 I feel cold.
8:13 Oh no.
8:15 Well, this feels like 40, 50 FPS.
8:19 I forgot to turn on my counter, but whatever.
8:22 Either way, this is running great.
8:24 And this display looks awesome.
8:25 Awesome for gaming.
8:26 Like the torch in the center,
8:30 alongside like the dark background looks great.
8:33 Cause like on a lot of displays,
8:34 you'll get either a bright torch and the rest is just gray,
8:38 or you'll be able to see the details,
8:40 but the torch would be like not bright at all.
8:43 Whereas this just looks fantastic.
8:45 Like you have the brightness of the torch
8:47 and detail in the shadows.
8:50 Awesome display.
8:50 Can you play it on the smaller screen?
8:53 Can I play it on the smaller screen?
8:55 That's a good question.
8:56 Settings, graphics.
9:00 Let's turn off full screen.
9:04 I just drag it down.
9:05 Oh, I can.
9:05 Cool.
9:08 This is like not the best, if I'm honest.
9:13 I've had better gaming experiences before.
9:16 The display is still quite good, but like, you know,
9:18 just because of the angle that it's at
9:20 and we have like film lights here,
9:22 I need to be like there and not get the glare.
9:25 Okay. So it works pretty well.
9:26 If I hit escape and I just go down, like the mouse works.
9:29 Perfectly awesome.
9:31 Then I can come back up here,
9:33 refocus on Valheim and it works well.
9:37 Should we, should we look at the other laptop?
9:39 Okay.
9:40 We got a laptop.
9:41 We got a second laptop.
9:43 This one was a surprise.
9:44 It presumably has a nicer box on launch.
9:49 This is a ZenBook 16X
9:53 and it does not have a second display,
9:57 but it does have a keyboard that moves up.
10:00 Actually, let's just take a moment to check this out.
10:01 Take a moment to talk about why you would want
10:04 your keyboard to move up
10:06 and also why this display moves up in this fashion.
10:11 Now you might think that
10:12 in like the case of the secondary display here,
10:15 it's just so, you know, it angles up and looks at you,
10:18 which is perfectly fine.
10:20 But the main reason they created a hinge like this
10:23 in the first place is to improve the thermals.
10:26 So you might've noticed that while we're playing Valheim
10:29 and screen recording at the same time,
10:31 this thing was almost satisfied.
10:32 It was silent.
10:33 And that's largely because loads of space for cooling.
10:36 I can see a fan that's right in here.
10:37 Maybe I can stick my finger in it
10:39 and you'll hear the light.
10:40 Nope.
10:42 Oh yeah.
10:42 We can take it apart.
10:43 Interesting.
10:44 This feels like a haptic touch touch pad on the 16X.
10:48 I guess we didn't even do a tour of it.
10:50 Ah, geez.
10:51 Getting way ahead of myself here.
10:52 One second.
10:53 IO.
10:54 We have dual Thunderbolt 4 ports, USB type A,
10:58 our DC in, anything on the back?
11:00 Nope.
11:02 And then on the right hand side,
11:03 we have a full size SD card reader.
11:05 I love to see that.
11:06 If you are a photographer,
11:08 having a full size SD card reader is just the best.
11:11 You can go out, snap a whole bunch of photos,
11:14 stick your SD card in there,
11:15 and it will go over super fast.
11:17 Also headphone microphone combo jack and HDMI 2.1.
11:21 Is that correct?
11:22 Wicked.
11:23 Good job, ASUS.
11:24 I consider this thing to be just the absolute Lightroom beast.
11:27 And that's pretty much entirely
11:29 because of this little nubbin here.
11:31 It used to be like a little,
11:32 a little circle track pad thing.
11:34 Now it's much closer to what you'd find
11:36 on like one of the original iPods.
11:38 So we have click in the center and then move around.
11:41 So like if we come over here,
11:43 the ones that immediately you have access to
11:45 are just like screen brightness.
11:47 So I can click on that and you'll be able to see
11:50 as I turn it around, gets dimmer, gets brighter.
11:55 And this works awesome
11:57 because it automatically plugs into Lightroom.
11:59 So you can go click on like your brightness
12:02 and you just spin it.
12:03 You just spin it a little bit
12:04 and you click on your other values and same sort of thing.
12:07 It's just, it feels nicer when you're editing photos.
12:10 It also would appear that we have a haptic touch pad
12:12 and it is really nice and big.
12:14 I know that the other one right here,
12:16 the Duo does not have a large touch pad.
12:18 This one most certainly does.
12:19 Look at this.
12:20 Also big, the display, 16 inches, 16 by 10.
12:25 It also is OLED.
12:26 And this one looks even better.
12:27 Is it not a touch screen?
12:28 It is a touch screen.
12:29 Damn, how did they do that?
12:30 Oh, they did it by just it being big.
12:33 Oh, cool.
12:34 Look at that.
12:39 The keyboard on this is a little bit on the strange side.
12:44 So we have, as you can see, it's lifted up.
12:48 And I don't know, maybe I'll get used to it in a little bit.
12:51 Let's type a little bit more.
12:56 I still don't know how I feel about how angled it is,
12:59 but I think I could get used to it.
13:01 What is annoying is that the switches
13:03 just are kind of letting me down.
13:05 Well, the switches are great,
13:07 but the rigidity of the chassis
13:09 and center, as you can see,
13:10 it kind of moves just a little bit.
13:14 It's like not great.
13:16 It's the sort of thing where I probably would have given
13:18 this much higher praise
13:20 if I hadn't just touched the exact same switches in this,
13:25 which is just way sturdier.
13:27 Like this base right here, the switches all feel awesome.
13:30 This one's like an easy A plus.
13:32 This one right here, where it's kind of,
13:35 the whole deck has a little bit more movement.
13:37 It's more like an A minus.
13:39 Now, in the 16X, we get the same i9-12900H for the processor
13:43 and an RTX 3060.
13:45 Six gigabytes of RAM and RTX 3060s in laptops
13:48 just are so much faster than a 3050 Ti.
13:52 This 4K OLED panel on the 16X is just fantastic.
13:57 Now, it has like more pixels than the 14,
14:01 and also it's just plain bigger.
14:03 So even though it does have the graininess
14:05 that I always complain about on OLEDs,
14:07 it isn't a problem until you're about, like,
14:08 here.
14:11 Do you know what's also great?
14:13 Crab rave.
14:14 Huh.
14:27 The 16 has very good speakers,
14:30 but it's like a little bit harsh.
14:31 Those are both fantastic speakers to have on a laptop.
14:33 It's amazing how good speakers have gotten
14:35 in the last, like, three years, maybe?
14:38 Both of the displays, top and bottom on the 14,
14:42 are 120 Hertz OLED.
14:44 It's actually just like the best display you can get
14:46 for like consuming content and like video gaming.
14:50 It's frigging awesome.
14:51 This one right here, high refresh rate, too?
14:53 No, 60, ah, that's too bad.
14:55 So the 14-inch starts at two grand and goes up to three,
15:00 and the 16-inch starts at $2,600 and goes up to three grand.
15:05 Yeah, here we've got our 76-watt-hour battery.
15:08 I don't know how long that's going to last you.
15:10 There's so many variables, especially with OLED screens.
15:14 What you're showing on it
15:15 can change your battery life significantly.
15:17 Like, showing only dark displays can net you
15:21 like an extra two hours of battery life
15:23 compared to having really bright displays
15:25 because it's actually turning off the pixels.
15:28 RAM, you're not replacing it, as far as I can see,
15:31 but the storage is replaceable, which is awesome.
15:34 Like, there's a small chance that the RAM's
15:37 on the other side of this and you can replace it,
15:40 but that's going to be a huge pain in the arse to get at,
15:42 so it's effectively not replaceable.
15:44 As for the big boy, I do love how easy it is to replace.
15:45 It's like, you know, it's like, you know, it's like, you know,
15:46 I do love how easy the bottoms
15:48 of ASUS laptops are to take off.
15:51 Is that a vapor chamber?
15:52 Damn!
15:54 We're not able to do performance or thermal testing on these
15:57 because they're pre-production units
15:59 and not representative of what you'll actually get,
16:03 but this is an impressive cooler.
16:05 This is like gaming laptop spec sort of stuff.
16:09 96-watt-hour battery, that's coming just,
16:13 just under what is legally allowed to go on a plane.
16:16 Same thing here.
16:17 The SSD is replaceable.
16:19 I don't see any RAM.
16:21 Okay, guys.
16:22 Can you settle mine and Jono's debate down in the comments?
16:25 ZenBook 16, ZenBook 14.
16:27 Which one would you want?
16:29 Do you want to flex with the dual screens?
16:30 Do you want the one that's more practical
16:32 for actually using as a professional?
16:35 I don't know.
16:36 Let us know.
16:37 Huge thanks to ASUS for sponsoring this video.
16:39 Hit like, hit subscribe.
16:40 Links are going to be down below for you to buy one of these
16:44 and just have a great old day.
16:45 See ya.
