Welcome to our Tomb Raider not the old Tomb Raider the new Tomb Raider that has
0:04
the exact same title as the old Tomb Raider Welcome to our Tomb Raider GPU
0:08
Showdown performance guide we are going to be taking four different price points
0:13
and comparing cards from the Green Team
0:16
and the red team and letting you guys know which one is the best for your
0:20
hard-earned dollar in this particular game new Tomb Raider not old Tomb Raider
0:24
now as always we're going to start with a look at our test bench we have a 3960x
0:29
at 4 gz so it's it's overclocked but quite frankly a 3770k or 3570k is going
0:35
to perform better than that once you overclock it to the max anyhow 16 gigs
0:39
of Kingston hyperx memory and as p9x 79 Deluxe we obviously swap out the
0:43
graphics cards we've got an antech high current Pro 1,000 wat power supply 128
0:49
gig SSD for a boot drive and it's all cooled by a Corsair h100 now since the
0:55
CPU is overclocked and because everyone in their dog tests graphics cards at
0:59
their stock speeds we overclock every graphics card on our test bench because
1:03
we think you guys should be overclocking your graphics cards too and we want to
1:07
represent what you will be able to achieve with your card so we're going
1:10
for Fairly realistic overclocks on our cards and you can check out The
1:14
annotation if you want to see exactly what settings we're running so you can
1:17
try and replicate them on your own cards we are not using the built-in Benchmark
1:21
for Tomb Raider we are actually using a two-minute run through the same way that
1:25
we normally do and if you want to check out our two-minute run through you can
1:28
follow along with slicks testing methodology video which he creates every
1:32
time we do one of these showdowns and you can Benchmark your system at gain
1:35
stars now while we understand the importance of rating graphics cards
1:39
based on frame times as opposed to just frame rates we don't have the equipment
1:43
yet to do that so we're sticking with our old methodology of using fraps to
1:47
record frame rates and Reporting the results it may not be perfect but it's
1:51
as good as anything anyone else has been recording for the last five years anyway
1:55
so hopefully it still gives you some guidance in terms of how these cards
1:58
compare to each other in our $100 price range we've got the
2:02
7770 and the GTX 650 now these cards
2:06
were run at ultimate which is the same settings we ran everything else at and
2:11
if you think about that for a moment $100 card versus $400 card at the same
2:15
settings is quite possible you're going to end up with a situation where it's
2:18
not really even playable on these cards the 7770 in particular did not perform
2:23
very well on Ultimate however because
2:26
the both of these cards just tanked with Tres FX on we decided to run at Ultra
2:31
instead of ultimate just to give you guys a look at what you might actually
2:34
be playing at so the only real difference between Ultra and ultimate is
2:37
that Ultra does not have Tres FX which is the realistic hair simulation that's
2:43
going on in this game the funny thing is Tres FX is an AMD technology but it
2:47
actually runs better on the 650 than the 7770 even though even though neither of
2:52
them are playable at all so let's move into our next price bracket which is
2:56
about $200 so our 660 is is about 229
3:00
and our 7870 is about 239 making them sort of closer to 250 but this is a very
3:05
good value price point and so that's why we want to bring this up the 7870 did
3:10
win by about 10% versus the 660
3:14
so there you go I guess there's not really much else to say because Tomb
3:18
Raider benchmarked very smoothly other than the hiccups that were encountered
3:22
on the lower end with on the lower end cards where with tress FX it didn't seem
3:27
to really want to work at all 79 50 continues to be a rockstar in our
3:31
testing it overclocks incredibly well and particularly when it came to minimum
3:36
frame rates versus the 660ti it performed about 50% better on minimums
3:41
48 FPS versus 30 FPS on the 660 Ti so
3:45
that was a bit of a trouncing because
3:48
remember guys minimum frame rates are more important to the overall gaming
3:53
experience than average frame rates necessarily can be in our final price
3:58
bracket so we've gone $100 $200 $300 and
4:02
now $400 we've got the gtx670 and the
4:05
Radeon 7970 so it's not a gigahertz
4:08
Edition card but quite frankly it doesn't really matter because it doesn't
4:13
you can overclock the card yourself anyway but we see another victory for
4:16
the red team This Time Again by about 10% and I guess it makes sense because
4:21
this is an AMD sort of gaming evolved title they are giving it away with their
4:25
cards in their never settle bundles or at least they have depending on when
4:28
you're watching this video and I think that pretty much wraps it up so thank
4:31
