0:07 welcome to my unboxing of the Thunders Shield series uninterruptible power
0:11 supply from opt UPS we in particular
0:14 have the 2250 so this is the 1200
0:18 watt yes absorb that you guys 1200 watt
0:22 UPS from this particular line and what is it for okay emergency backup for home
0:27 and offices offering unpass protection at the best Val
0:30 it actually isn't that expensive compared to their uh was their durable
0:34 series one that we looked at before uh so this is more for Home and Office use
0:38 whereas the other one for suggested uses had things like uh medical equipment so
0:43 that should give you some idea of the class of product this is more uh
0:46 consumer and small business whereas the other one is more big business friendly
0:50 the other one had Advanced features like being able to hook up an external
0:54 battery for you know hours of on time whereas this doesn't really have that
0:57 kind of thing okay ideal solution for multiple applications PC and Mac
1:01 workstations Network gateways security surveillance and video recorders POS
1:04 systems and ATM machines so stuff that can't go down but if it does go down
1:09 people don't die uh okay TS series offers userfriendly installation and
1:13 peace of mind operation wide range AVR
1:17 automatic voltage regulator this is good because it will actually keep your parts
1:21 lasting longer electrical noise filtration protection from electrical
1:24 surges spikes and lightning remote control of connected equipment and
1:28 Energy savings functions Advanced Battery management okay well this is
1:32 pretty straightforward let's go ahead and get this opened up UPS's are heavy
1:36 um this one is heavy I usually have trouble getting them out of the box so
1:40 what we're probably going to do is we're going to turn off the camera while I try
1:44 and get it extracted so oh look at that helpfully labeled rear and front after
1:48 we have a look at the packaging using a nice thick soft foam which is excellent
1:53 and good to see especially because these things are so heavy that when you ship
1:58 them around it would be a disaster if they uh you know broke the foam inside
2:02 and like knocked around and destroyed themselves okay it comes with a nice
2:07 thick power cord and uh let's have a look at the other accessories really
2:10 quick here comes with a USB cable so
2:14 again this is another difference between that more commercial industrial model
2:18 that came with a Serial cable and uh didn't even work without an optional
2:22 software download with USB like it was yeah it was meant for cereal whereas
2:27 this one doesn't even come with a seral cable this is more con consum oriented
2:30 model it also comes with a phone
2:35 cord oh yeah that's right BL no no I'm just I'm just making I'm just saying
2:39 that uh it is useful the reason the phone cord is useful is because it
2:44 actually will prevent power surges from buying your phone in theory power does
2:48 actually go through the phone line so there you go all right UPS monitoring
2:53 software Sentinel revision v1.5 works
2:57 with any OS pretty much like ever on the
3:01 Windows platform okay
3:04 cool all right and yeah oh that's heavy okay all
3:11 right this one is also more consumer friendly looking so it has uh actually
3:16 oh yeah the other one the other one's here so instead of looking like a piece of equipment from the80s uh I'm not
3:21 going to be able to move this so I'm just going to kind of turn it there you
3:24 go it looks like uh more like Sleek you
3:28 know the kind of thing that could have next to your gaming rig that wouldn't look that out of place sort of sort of
3:34 look to it okay so there's your power button there's your indicator LED this one doesn't have a front display however
3:39 you can use the software to monitor a variety of the features here is a brief
3:44 instructional guide on how to do a variety of things including how to turn
3:48 it on which is critical if you can't figure out how to turn it on then you
3:52 won't have much success using this product also unlike the Industrial Level
3:56 product it doesn't have a cooling fan which again makes it more suitable for
4:00 home use because let me tell you the cooling fan on the durable series 1 is
4:05 pretty loud more at place in a server room than in an office so here's our
4:11 input here is our ups output so you've
4:14 got up to four things that you can plug in so you know there's your computer
4:17 your monitor your I don't know fax machine and your you know
4:22 um like iPhone charger no you probably don't need to
4:27 charge your iPhone doesn't matter if the power goes goes out your iPhone can just
4:30 stop charging it's okay remember guys the point of a UPS is like lightning
4:35 strikes or you know something explodes the power goes out something bad happens
4:41 and there's some kind of a surge or some kind of damage that can be done to the
4:44 equipment on the other side this guy takes care of that so as soon as
4:48 something bad happens a it is keeping
4:52 the voltages constant which is better on your equipment it is less stressful on
4:56 the power supplies in your equipment whether it's a computer power supply or
5:00 whether it's like a passive power supply doesn't matter it's less stressful to
5:03 have a constant healthy voltage being fed to it and it also serves to switch
5:07 to battery backup in the event that something goes terribly wrong which will
5:11 keep things from shutting down without uh without correctly shutting down
5:15 without closing all your software saving all your work this kind of stuff can
5:18 save your bacon so there's your USB
5:21 port oh UPS output that's sort of interesting does
5:27 it have five or I'm not sure what the difference is
5:30 between this UPS output and this UPS output but um there you go okay so
5:36 RJ45 RJ rj11 in and out so you can
5:41 either power surge protect your Ethernet or your um phone line but I don't really
5:47 see any reason why you would want to Surge protect Ethernet unless
5:52 um yeah I can't really think of a reason for that so the foam Line's probably the
5:56 more relevant one and I think that pretty much covers
6:01 it don't forget guys lots of things can
6:04 go wrong especially when the power goes out whether you're flashing a BIOS you
6:09 know updating any particular firmware you should always be plugged into a UPS
6:13 because it'll buy you at least a few minutes you know even 5 minutes can be
6:16 the difference between finishing flashing a BIOS and just having one
6:20 flake out and you slick and I I even had the power go out here in the tech tips
6:24 room when we were flashing a BIOS once and the only reason I don't know if that
6:28 board's handy or anything but the the only reason that board didn't Breck was
6:31 because it had a dual BIOS feature that had a Hardware switch we were able to just switch over to the other BIOS and
6:36 Flash that one once the power came back on so UPS's can save your bacon I am a
6:40 huge advocate and they are as valuable as they are heavy and they are very
6:44 heavy thank you for checking out my unboxing of the opt UPS 2250b Thunders
