0:00 so today on my video blog we'll be unboxing the XFX Radeon 5850 now these
0:05 launched at the same time as the 870s
0:08 but the availability hasn't been quite as good for them so let's uh get started
0:14 here and cut the seal there we go so
0:17 it's pretty much based around the same chip the same amount of RAM all that
0:22 kind of stuff but the difference between the 5870 and the 5850 is that it's
0:27 clocked a little bit lower and it's also miss a couple of the of the what is it
0:32 the processing cores or something like that anyway it's clocked at 725 MHz and
0:37 the RAM is clocked at 4.0 GHz instead of 4.8 GHz like the 5870 so let's get this
0:44 sort of shoe box style Box open and like all the 58 70s it comes with a free copy
0:48 of dirt to and then we've got a quick install guide here there you are there's
0:54 your quick install guide then there's a little okay here's a full installation
0:58 guide which is actually not that much longer than the quick install guide but
1:02 that covers the software aspect of things there we go and then we have a
1:07 driver's disc ATI Graphics ATI driver
1:10 you're going to want to download the latest drivers anyway though don't bother with that uh under here we have
1:15 one of these cool uh door hangers do not disturb I'm gaming then inside here we
1:21 have play hard Okay so we've got two Molex to PCI Express six pin adapters
1:26 one crossfire Bridge which is quite normal for a radon on card and then we
1:31 have a DVI to VGA adapter if you're actually still using a VGA monitor which
1:36 uh please get a new monitor because that is quite ancient at this time okay
1:40 inside here we will find the 5850 now
1:44 you can see it's not quite as well padded as the 5870 but it's also a
1:49 slightly smaller card so let's get this
1:52 out let's get this closed and here is
1:56 the 5850 so on the front of the card
1:59 you've got excess effect's graphics and then you've got the same fan they use on
2:02 the 5870 then on the top of the card you can see we've got the ATI radon logo two
2:08 Crossfire Bridges although I've heard performance is actually better if you
2:11 use just one now the back of the card we start seeing a pretty big difference
2:15 here because instead of having a black shroud on the back it's only a bare PCB
2:20 with a back plate so that's quite different from the other card now on the
2:24 back we find two PCI Express six pin connectors and again you're going to
2:28 notice a difference you know what why don't I just grab the other card here for comparison okay so here's the 5870
2:34 compared to the 5850 you can see it's actually quite a bit longer but on the
2:38 5870 the PCI Express connectors are here
2:41 whereas on the 5850 they're at the back so you actually have to account for an
2:46 extra like you probably 2 3 cm for that
2:49 connector and the ca's coming off the back so it's not that much shorter now
2:53 these are both PCI Express 16x cards and they both have the same connectors at
2:57 the back so you can connect up to three three monitors One DisplayPort and then
3:02 you can do either HDMI and DVI or DVI
3:06 and DVI it will not work with HDMI DVI
3:09 DVI and you can't use a passive DisplayPort to DVI adapter anyway thank you for
3:15 checking out my unboxing on the XFX Radeon
