0:00 Linus Tech tips coverage of computex 2013 is powered by Western Digital our
0:04 trusted gaming gear partner is Corsair Vengeance and our trusted retail partner
0:08 is nc.com so we've got Eric here from tte
0:12 orts who's going to be showing us some pretty cool stuff they've also got a lot
0:16 of stuff that they've already released but why don't you start with this guy
0:20 right here this is the Poseidon and it's a mechanical keyboard people love
0:24 mechanical keyboards it's so big these days tell me two things why are
0:28 mechanical keyboards such a big deal all of a sudden and number two is how does
0:32 it how's this positioned in the market why do we need the Poseidon in addition
0:35 to all your other mechanical keyboards okay so mainly people want mechanical
0:39 keyboards these days because they're a lot more durable than membrane keyboards
0:43 have been in the past sorry um so um
0:47 it's really durable um it costs a little bit more but it's like guaranteed to
0:50 last like 50 million keystrokes usually if it doesn't then you just return it
0:54 get a new one so it just like keeps that lifetime cycle going so tell me about
0:58 that durability because these are a lower cost mechanical keyboard but you
1:03 can still you can still offer that guarantee to your customers yeah so um
1:06 in the past I've done videos on YouTube um probably look for them I've I took a
1:10 BMW and rolled over our Mecha G1 keyboard just to prove like it's really
1:15 durable still works there's videos on YouTube um but the market position for
1:19 this keyboard we decided to release something that's a little more cost affordable in the past our keyboards
1:24 have been in like the 129 139 range um so we're trying to get something a
1:28 little bit uh more affordable for every game gamer so uh what we decided to do
1:32 is release a really simple entry-level mechanical keyboard so we came up with
1:35 the Poseidon um we have a non-b backlight and a backlight version so the
1:39 backlight uh version is going to be starting at $89.99 and the non-backlit
1:43 is going to be $79.99 um but at the same time even
1:47 though it's cost affordable we didn't want to compromise the durability so
1:50 these keyboards are uh pretty robust um they can last quite a while and we're
1:54 really excited for them pick that up and do a flex test for me because that
1:58 that's that's my kind of trademark thing if we can get an angle on that real
2:02 wrench on it because I always wrench on it so you can see guys when you have a
2:06 cheap keyboard that thing is going to flex to the point where you can almost
2:10 pop the keys off but even though this is a 70 this is a $79.99 keyboard right so
2:15 that's getting down into the price ranges of something like a high-end
2:19 membrane buy an entry-level mechanical
2:22 not a high-end membrane I mean obviously buy a high-end mechanical if you can but
2:26 speaking of high-end Mechanicals you have some new stuff coming on the
2:30 high-end stuff too show me what we got over here okay so in the past we've uh
2:34 mainly stuck with black switches so we've done gunit G1 Mecca with black
2:38 switches so uh what we decided to do this year is come up with a lot more
2:41 options for um people that want to buy red switches Brown switches Blue
2:45 switches so um here we're showing off the gunit um with different switches we
2:50 have a blue a red and a brown here um the red one here was showing off even
2:54 the illuminated the full backlight version um so we really want to give
2:58 people more options because um since new key switches are coming out more and
3:02 more um Brown and red have become really popular in the gaming market so we want
3:06 to be able to provide more people more options um depending on like if you want
3:10 it really heavy switch a light switch um just depends on what your preference is
3:14 now tell me if you tell me about if you wanted a headset that was designed in
3:18 collaboration with BMW how would you address that customer can can you do
3:21 that for me I would say Let's uh look over here right now because I I think
3:26 that's a pretty tall order I'm throwing at you here mind you uh we we cheated a
3:29 little bit I I I I I did actually get a tour of the booth before we started you
3:33 know what let's put ourselves right here and I'll get you to stand right here and
3:37 you can talk about this I'm just going to lean over you here so tell me about
3:40 the level 10m gaming headset okay so we just unveiled this this morning at
3:44 computex in collaboration with BMW design Works USA it's our level 10m
3:48 headset um it follows the design philosophy of what we've released in the
3:52 past the level 10m Mouse and the level 10 case and level 10 GT case from
3:57 thermal take so we collaborated with them a lot of design philosophies went
4:01 in you can see it's a really um like heavy style like more um robust metal um
4:08 so we we decided that we're going to come out with a headset that's uh really
4:11 durable um really stylish and something that um a lot of people will enjoy so
4:17 show me some of the robustness like this looks like this looks like metal
4:20 components here that are part of the sliding mechanism and uh and show show
4:24 me the microphone the way it moves okay so yeah the um the main framework of the
4:28 headset is alum umum so we want to keep it like lightweight but durable um and
4:33 really really hard uh mold injected plastic for the ear cups um has 40 M 4
4:39 40 mm uh sound drivers on it um and the
4:42 microphone is uh really really flexible so you can position it um it's got like
4:46 a joint in here you can position it depending on your preference you can
4:50 switch the cable from the left to right side pretty easily um sometimes you know
4:55 your desktop might be on the right or the left side so depending on how you
4:59 want the key board uh the the sorry the headset cable to to switch uh positions
5:03 you can do that with well I actually I mean the way that I configure my system
5:07 is I like to have my headphone cable draping across WD so that um so that I
5:12 can actually do both forward and back movement at the same time just by
5:15 pressing on the cable do do you think that that's an optimal setup I I mean I
5:19 don't think it's optimal but you can still do that with this headset awesome
5:22 so I have the power yeah definitely so
5:25 yeah definitely check this out uh we just announced it on uh this morning so
5:29 it's going to be out on of course you're covering it but you can uh also research
5:33 it on our website uh it's straight on the front page awesome we got one more
5:37 thing that we want to have a look at over here so show us show us this
5:44 guy okay so for people that commute
5:47 definitely sometime a problem is that you have to buy separate headphones
5:51 between gaming and commuting um you want to listen to music on the subway or the
5:56 the bus or whatever um so we designed a Bluetooth ready headset set um that's
6:00 also compatible with gaming so so what you can do is uh it's a gaming headset
6:06 first and foremost so you have the microphone but when you want to take it out on the go you can actually unplug
6:12 and have it Bluetooth ready with your phone so you can stream music from your
6:15 phone in your pocket and just have it on wirelessly and so can you give us a
6:20 little can you give us a little twirl twirl here show show us yeah there thank
6:23 you do do a little turn on the catwalk yeah little model work and uh another
6:27 interesting thing about this is even if you don't really need the microphone you
6:30 can detach the cable and plug straight into your PC so you have the option of
6:36 using uh microphone no microphone PC
6:39 wireless and you can charge through USB so it's a really Sleek headset we're
6:44 kind of uh aiming to simplify the style a little bit so it's not so much a look
6:49 at me when I'm commuting it's more of a just I want to relax I want to get ready
6:53 for work things like that but you do have look at me products can you pull one of those down for me really quick I
6:57 want like just for contrast guys thermaltake has such an enormous range
7:02 of products available on headsets here let's uh let's let's let's let's get
7:05 this let's get this up so if I didn't want to wear this on
7:11 the subway I could wear that instead and I would have every I would have the
7:15 entire gamut of designed in collaboration with BMW and kind of
7:18 striking but very stylish I'd have that
7:21 sort of that wow holy crap look at this guy he's got a gold headset on and then
7:26 you've got the more like uh you know some guy who just wants to chill and
7:31 though please don't look at me yeah I mean the design Philosophy for our company is that we want to have
7:35 something for everyone whether you want to simple um Sleek design or you want
7:39 something a little bit more colorful a little bit more complicated I mean we
7:42 have something for everyone we have you know we have a headset for Xbox Gamers
7:46 we have um simplified mechanical keyboards for people that want a really
7:51 like Sleek desktop so um we make something for everyone so it's it's kind
7:55 of our design philosophy we keep coming out with new products and that's going
7:58 to hit a different style so that's what we're looking forward to it's not all
8:02 style sometimes there's a performance reason for what you do so right here
8:07 what what have you done here exactly okay so uh Theon has been a really
8:11 successful Mouse for us a lot of people like it so we want to offer um new color
8:16 options so we have uh white red and yellow coming out um with a glossy
8:20 finish so just depending on the style we have uh the old traditional Theon was uh
8:25 rubber coating so we wanted to add a little bit more options comes with the
8:28 same great laser sensor that's in um the the original Theon but here we have a
8:33 new option which is a Theon infrared it has a new infrared Optical sensor and
8:38 this is uh built to improve tracking for your gaming but it's also lower cost
8:42 it's going to come out about $10 us cheaper than the original Theon was so
8:46 it's a lower cost high performance option for this mouse so to be clear for
8:52 69 or $79.99 so for 80 bucks plus about
8:56 55 bucks could you could you get a combo here that you you would feel comfortable
9:01 using regardless of who you you pretty much are yeah I mean it's simple enough
9:05 um but it's also stylish enough um to really take your game up to the next
9:09 level um I even actually game with these two uh Theon infrared and the Poseidon
9:13 keyboard right now I play a lot of Starcraft so I'm really confident in the
9:17 fact that you can perform with these products so okay I actually didn't know
9:20 that I did not I did not cheat on that one so thank you very much for joining
9:25 us this has been absolutely fantastic guys don't miss any of our computex 23
9:29 coverage and again thank you very much thank you
