0:04 today using the link in the video description this year
0:08 as far as i knew coming into this Intel
0:12 wasn't supposed to have any new CPU products on display and yet there's the
0:17 commemorative like 40-year anniversary of the original 8086 CPU that we're
0:24 gonna actually we we found one here on the floor we're gonna go check that out
0:27 later that thing launched also they're giving away
0:31 8086 of them just freaking crazy maybe we'll link the details to that down
0:35 below and then we swung by the rog booth again
0:40 and this was not here yesterday so
0:44 they're calling this rog dominic's dominus dominus
0:50 16 phase rog concept motherboard with some kind of
0:56 classified CPU in it and i have gone out
1:00 of my way to ask all of the ASUS people
1:03 here as little as possible because as soon as
1:07 they tell me anything about this i'm going to be like honor bound to not say
1:12 anything because Intel is being extremely tight-lipped about what's
1:16 going on in here and i have seen some pretty um
1:21 dumbs not the word i'm looking for but some pretty unlikely speculation about
1:26 what exactly is going on here so first of all
1:30 let's bring up so they're letting us run cinebench this is this is freaking
1:34 awesome they're letting us run cinebench so we've got a score from last time 6
1:38 000 points we can't bring up CPU zed but
1:41 we're allowed to run cinebench so let's see if we can count how many oh crap
1:46 okay it's going to be pretty hard for us to count how many course
1:49 it has which pretty much tells me everything
1:53 that i need to know because
1:56 a lot of people wouldn't recognize this socket but i've actually been working on
2:00 a six video editors one CPU project for a while so i've got ASUS dual lga 3647
2:08 socket ws sageboard and uh it's got a
2:13 socket that looks an awful lot like that now we know Intel isn't launching any
2:17 new CPU architectures right now so we can speculate that this is probably
2:23 based on the same socket and a similar
2:26 CPU to the 28 core max chips that i've
2:31 been running for that project we also
2:34 know that because there's six memory slots it is either triple channel which
2:39 would be a total blast from the past or it is six channel memory which again
2:44 would suggest that this is going to be very similar to Intel's server grade
2:50 xeon platform now i was a little bit critical of xeon w
2:55 because as far as we could tell it's basically a core i9 with ecc memory
3:01 tacked onto it for a few hundred extra dollars
3:04 and Intel didn't seem like they were going to be supporting the high the very
3:08 high-end workstation with these server only chips is something like that going
3:13 to happen well based on that the bottom
3:16 third or so of this board seems to be recycled from the sage
3:21 i would say that could happen and based on their um
3:26 their concept grade 16 phase power delivery system up here i
3:31 would say that they are probably going to allow overclocking which is
3:36 incredibly exciting okay so the one thing that they'll tell us about this
3:41 other than that it's 16 phase and that it's running some kind of classified CPU
3:46 is that this power delivery setup up here check this out you got two 24 pins
3:50 in there's one over there there's one down here and then i can't actually find
3:56 them all but it would appear as though there are yeah here they are one two
4:01 three four five six a combination of four
4:06 eight pins and two six pins that appear to be designed to power the CPU socket
4:12 alone over here there's no vrm this is just more heatsink with more fans six
4:17 fans and this thing can provide up to 2
4:21 000 watts of power like 2100 watts or
4:24 something like that okay so to put that in context the 18 core extreme edition
4:29 core i9 can suck back about 500 watts
4:33 under water or about a thousand under liquid nitrogen so i wouldn't be
4:37 surprised if they were building this thing for liquid nitrogen which might
4:40 tell us that if this is a 28 core CPU and we were to overclock it to i don't
4:45 know let's say four point something high five gigahertz who knows it could pull
4:50 as much as a thousand watts of power
4:54 that is like that's like Threadripper what Threadripper
4:58 and here it is where the one and only der eight hour
5:02 is that how you pronounce it durator no i'm just kidding
5:07 der bauer has got an 8086k
5:10 running on i don't know some kind of motherboard it's covered in like automotive shop cloth and a liquid
5:15 nitrogen pod anyway the point is they've got it running at
5:19 7.1 gigahertz at the moment and we've
5:23 got a shot of CPU z up here which will tell us a totally unrealistic speed that
5:28 you might get it running at if you're basically him and nobody else it also
5:32 tells us it's six cores 12 threads so basically an
5:36 8700k and um
5:39 unfortunately that's pretty much all there is to it from his testing he
5:44 figures it's about as good as a good 8700k
5:48 not like super special bend or anything like that and um
5:52 you do get a special badge in CPU zed it says 40th anniversary but other than
5:57 that this is mostly meant to be a commemorative skew and any rumors about
6:02 soldered ihs or anything like that seem to have been
6:07 exaggerated so i guess that's pretty much it for
6:11 random Intel CPU launches we didn't see coming thanks to lastpass for making our
6:15 coverage of computex 2018 possible this year lastpass lets you store all your
6:19 passwords securely in your account so that when you're traveling or using a
6:23 new machine or just logging into something that you haven't used in a
6:27 while you don't have to go digging through you know paper notes somewhere
6:31 or heaven forbid you don't have to reuse passwords because it can automatically
6:36 generate them for you when you create your accounts lastpass also stores a lot
6:40 more than just passwords you can keep credit card numbers passport numbers for
6:44 when you want to book a flight you can store care card numbers for yourself or
6:49 your kids something you might need in an emergency but don't necessarily want to
6:53 carry around with you in a physical wallet something that can be lost and
6:57 the best part is you don't have to take my word for it you can try lastpass for
7:00 free at the link in the video description so don't miss any of our
7:04 computex 2018 coverage guys we will see you at the next booth
7:08 whoa whoa oh we're gonna give them we're gonna make them sick dennis
