0:07 welcome to my unboxing and first look at the Corsair
0:11 ax1200i so this is an improvement over
0:14 the original ax 800 and there's did I say ax 800 cuz what I really meant to
0:18 say was ax1200 and there's a few things that they've done differently so first
0:23 let's go over the Box itself digital ATX
0:26 power supply so meaning they're using digitally controlled power for tighter
0:29 regulation quiet efficient operation and there's
0:32 more to this than actually meets the eye it's fully modular just like the
0:36 original ax1200 supports Corsair link yes quiet efficient operations so using
0:41 Corsair link you can actually not only
0:45 monitor the efficiency of the power supply you can also control things like
0:50 fan profiles which has not yet been seen
0:54 in uh well yeah ever I mean I think I've
0:57 seen power supplies that have a dial on the back where you can sort of adjust
1:01 the fan profile but this is more robust
1:04 um they've also added 80 plus Platinum certification as opposed to the 80 plus
1:08 gold certification of the original 1200 here's some modular cables that we're
1:13 actually going to have a look at once we open it up so we're not going to worry too much about that okay digitally
1:18 control Power for solid voltage regulation and outstanding performance upgraded internal components and digital
1:22 design for ad80 plus Platinum configuration this is a great picture uh
1:26 fully modular cables for quick and EAS installation okay so this is more of the same in terms of what they have to say
1:31 for themselves so let's have a look at the back 80 plus Platinum basically
1:34 means 90 plus Because unless you're at see even at 100% load you're just under
1:39 that 90% Mark even on 115 volt input and
1:43 if you're using 230 volt if you're in Europe or Asia or wherever else you'll
1:46 actually basically unless you're at like you know 5% system load you're never
1:52 going to fall below 90 you know 91 92% efficiency which is
1:58 outstanding the fan doesn't even turn on until you reach 30% and I'm assuming
2:02 this is just the stock profile because if you're using Corsair link you will be
2:07 able to know how well your ax1200i is working at any given moment it lets you
2:11 quickly tweak its performance so server Inspire diagnostic tools monitor
2:15 real-time efficiency power usage configurable overcurrent protection
2:19 points and fan profiles so overcurrent
2:23 protection has been a bit of a Hot Topic
2:26 because there's this constant back and forth debate
2:30 do you want a multi-rail power supply with overcurrent protection applied in a
2:35 way that would you know prevent um
2:38 potential problems do you want a single rail power supply that can basically
2:43 have the flexibility to power whatever components you plug into it no matter
2:47 where you plug them in and Corsair is basically giving you the flexibility to
2:51 go okay look we're giving you a single Rail and we're giving you the ability to
2:55 actually control how the safety features are going to work to according to
2:59 whatever you're comfortable with you don't see this very often though it's uh
3:03 capable of providing 1,
3:22 124.80 mm cooling fan rounds out the
3:26 list of features so now let's have a look at what's in the box so what
3:31 Corsair is so good at compared to
3:34 basically everyone else is products that
3:38 work well together and look great
3:41 together if you go with h we actually did a PC at NCI the store where I work
3:46 uh we did a PC not that long ago that was all Corsair and ASUS premium branded
3:52 parts and the end result was outstanding
3:55 because all the parts work really well together and look really good together
3:59 and the PC looked a lot more expensive than it actually was just due to the
4:04 part selection that we used so that's just you know cool thing to be aware of
4:10 and this oh look at that there's your Corsair link connector so you plug in by
4:14 USB and then you've got uh of course their link adapter right there cool
4:19 beans power cable nice thick one okay download the latest link
4:24 dashboard software please visit there
4:28 cool modular cable take a look at those after uh zip ties as well as of course
4:33 their case badge some screws excellent
4:36 users manual not going to worry too much about that now let's have a look at the
4:40 power supply itself so it comes in a nice velvety baggie and see again things
4:46 Corsair understands excellent quality foam you could pretty much you know what
4:51 it' be kind of funny to do this but um you could pretty much drop that off a
4:56 couple story building and I'm sure your power supply would survive to I mean
5:00 don't do this you know please don't you know oh I bought a new cors areax 1200i
5:05 today lonus and I'm going to throw it off my you know apartment complex
5:09 because you said it would probably live be like no just no U so don't do it but
5:14 I suspect it would be fine because it's
5:17 an extremely robust packing material they're using and that's important
5:21 because when you order your new system the last thing you want to do is get
5:25 everything all unpacked and assembled and turn it on and doesn't work and
5:31 packaging plays a big role in that so there's our 140 mil fan they've actually
5:35 gone with quite a different aesthetic compared to the ax uh Noni Series so
5:40 they've got a bit of a glossy shininess to the sticker now as well as a bit of
5:45 uh texture and you know character to the
5:49 overall shape of the of the metal so they've gone with a bit of a different
5:52 fan Grill they still got the circular bars in there so you can't accidentally
5:55 get anything in there 140 mil fan still got you know kind of a neat kind of
6:00 looking thing here got your typical honeycomb Grill on the back with an
6:04 onoff switch as well as your power in and then we find the modular interface
6:08 so here we go oh cool okay so let's go
6:13 let's let's do cables first I suppose so
6:16 you got your 24 pin cable this pretty much stands to reason course they again
6:20 they're so good at this all black
6:25 cables beautiful actually give me a sec guys now these are the best quality
6:30 included cables I think I've yet encountered so there's a few things
6:33 about them that are kind of special so one we're used to that is the black
6:37 black wires so that's fantastic number two is this is the best sleeving that
6:43 I've ever seen included on a stock um on
6:47 a stock sleeved power supply also the
6:50 wires themselves are very very flexible very bendy and just have that you know
6:55 that well that quality feel about them it's not going to impact performance in
6:58 all likelihood but they look good they
7:01 feel good and like I said the this is just like there's no gaps very dense
7:07 sleeving compared to what you see on lesser lesser power supply products so
7:12 included cables you've got two nice long
7:15 four plus 4 pin connectors so you can support up to a dual 8 Pin motherboard
7:20 without any difficulty whatsoever you've also got the flexibility of up to
7:25 eight uh selectable either 6 Plus tws or
7:28 4 plus four so it comes with two four plus floors and six uh 6 plus 2 so that
7:35 is PCI Express connector so you could do up to like an Uber motherboard with
7:40 three dual cable graphics cards without
7:43 any difficulty whatsoever however if you only needed uh let's say for example you
7:48 only needed one eight pin but there's an auxiliary six pen on your motherboard
7:51 and you could Source another cable you could actually use it for that so you
7:54 can use them for whichever purpose you require you've got other included cables
7:58 as well so you've got uh four by SATA
8:02 cables Galore four of those and then you've got a bunch of Molex connectors
8:07 as well so three uh three Molex four
8:10 pins so you're only going to be able to plug in six of these but I think that
8:14 should still be plenty I mean that gives you up to 12 drives did I say 12 cuz
8:19 what I meant to say was 16 and then plus another you know 4X uh plus another four
8:24 mole x's and then another so another 8 Mo X connectors if you can't power
8:28 everything in your system at that point then you're probably doing something wrong on the back you also find a couple
8:33 more things so one is a self test which is kind of cool to have included and oh
8:38 right sorry a couple more things uh Molex to floppies there's two just in
8:42 case you need them again very nice black sleeve or not black sleeve black wires
8:45 and then there's this guy right here so that's the comp Port so l u whoops slick
8:50 an eye that could be short for anything uh
8:54 slick and I uh deduced that there's probably some kind of a cable that plugs
8:59 into here but we couldn't figure out where it was and then we kind of went oh
9:02 maybe it's in the cable bag so we dug through it and that is where you are
9:07 able to plug in this to here and then
9:10 the link to uh here and then that
9:18 to go in there and that to USB and then
9:21 slick sort of was like well if this is going to be mounted inside your case
9:25 somewhere it should probably come with like double-sided tape on the back to
9:28 which I responded bam because there's double-sided tape
9:32 included in the little accessory
9:36 baggie of course's good at these kinds of things so the ax 1200i is right side
9:40 up no matter which way you mount your power supply oh you can do it again oh
9:45 didn't work the cables are too Twisted um great looks great performance what
9:50 else is there to really say cors our link compatibility is going to be huge
9:53 for the tweaker and the gamer who really wants to monitor every last detail of
9:57 their system and I think that pretty much wraps this up so thank you for checking out my unboxing and first look
10:02 at the Corsair ax 1200i 80 plus Platinum
10:05 power supply don't forget to subscribe to L's Tech tips for more unboxings

10:27 videos o
10:53 okay so uh I know I didn't throw it off a
10:56 building but I'm sort of hoping this will make my point
11:00 so even if your Courier like really abuses it bearing in mind that your box
11:04 will be sealed and we probably should have taped it shut before we did this uh
11:09 because that caused the box to to open
11:12 so there you go there's some uh some Crush damage on the corner there there's
11:17 some this is about as bad as you could expect it to arrive from your Courier
11:21 and we're going to go ahead and investigate here so you can see that uh
11:26 there's enough foam padding here to
11:29 choke a horse or at least stop a fall
11:32 from damaging your power supply and because it's a soft foam I I know I harp
11:37 on soft foam but because it's a soft foam there's also no damage to the foam
11:41 which means we could actually throw it out of the car again and it would survive whereas with a hard foam once
11:47 it's broken the structural Integrity is dead and uh you don't get oh it's windy
11:53 it's going to blow away all the paper and then I'll be a litterer okay so
11:57 we're going to pull out the power supply and determine that it is indeed
12:02 unscathed within its protective
12:05 packaging so good don't forget to
