0:00 so mushkin is getting back into the power supply game in a serious way so
0:05 this is the jewel 700 wat power supply
0:09 and that is Jewel the unit of electricity rather than Jewel the
0:14 sparkly thing that goes on ladies and
0:18 some men okay so we have an 80 plus bronze rating on this particular power
0:22 supply it is a 700 watt unit which makes
0:25 it I mean I remember when a 700 wat unit was like who needs that that's
0:30 ridiculous 700 Watts who could possibly ever need 700 Watts well now 700 watts
0:34 is basically like a a mid-range or sort of value performance range of wattage so
0:40 that's what we're going to be looking at today let's have a look at what are the overall features and ratings and
0:45 everything else that we might possibly care about so we've got a full range
0:48 input with 99 uh
0:51 0.99 uh active power factor correction
0:54 okay that's good dual 12vt rails okay
0:58 we've got a high reliability thermal control nanotech bearing fan that's good
1:02 fan can be the difference between a power supply that I would use and a
1:05 power supply I wouldn't use regardless of how well it performs okay efficiency
1:09 up to 86% let see cables connector support
1:13 we'll have a look at that okay we've got over current protection over voltage
1:16 protection under voltage protection short current ShortCircuit protection
1:20 overpower protection and underload protection so it's got all of the
1:24 electrical safeguards that would be potentially needed in a bad
1:31 situation all right packaging is fairly simple on this particular power supply
1:39 unit it's kind of a non nonsense approach so we've got just a you know
1:43 graphical sleeve that goes over a plain black box and let's see how well packed
1:48 the power supply is in here so
1:53 H well you know it's probably okay I
1:56 guess so what I would probably do is uh I would suggest that having a little bit
2:02 of foam around the power supply wouldn't necessarily be a bad idea but it'll
2:06 probably arrive okay I mean if you have any issues mushkin has legendary RMA
2:11 support so I'm sure they'll get you taken care of right away so here's the
2:16 power supply itself let's check the accessories first not a whole lot of
2:19 accessories as I mentioned this is a value power supply so we've got a couple
2:23 of black cable ties we have some silver
2:26 screws and we've also got a standard computer power cable now when it comes
2:32 to power supplies I'm a big fan of the kiss principle that is keep it simple
2:37 stupid and uh the mushkin duel 700 watt
2:41 definitely does that so we've got a plain black finish on it we've got a
2:45 label that basically tells you the things you would potentially want to know about it so that is how many amps
2:50 on the respective uh rails so you can see either of the 12vt Rails is capable
2:56 of providing up to 26 amps okay and that
2:59 is is for a total of let me
3:02 see uh 12vt combined output is up to 51
3:07 amps so if you were to load up both of those that is the maximum that you can
3:11 put on the 12vt rail on this power supply so let's go ahead flip this guy
3:17 over and so yeah nothing on the other side just your plain black power supply
3:22 here is the that nanotech fan that is apparently lubrication free so it uses
3:28 some kind of Fancy Pants nanot technology in order to do that and they
3:33 claim up to 120,000 hours meantime between failure
3:38 for the fan so which means that um and this is an unusual thing it should
3:42 actually Outlast the power supply which is rated at 100,000 hours meantime
3:46 between failure so in terms of pre-connected cables this I like because
3:50 it has only ones that you will absolutely need it's got a 24 pin
3:55 preconnected and it's got an 8 Pin well that is a 4 plus 4 pin and they SL
4:00 together unlike some of the uh the cheaper ones well I don't know if
4:03 they're cheaper or more expensive but I definitely like the slide together
4:06 design better so you see you can separate them like this but then you
4:10 don't just clip them together you actually slide one connector into the
4:14 side of the other so then you make your eight pin connector that way and it's
4:17 much easier to keep them together when you're trying to reach somewhere and
4:20 plug in your eight pin so everything else is modular so it has a nearly fully
4:25 modular design so let's have a look at what we've got included in terms terms
4:29 of modular cables looks like we've got one what is
4:34 this EPS 12v two motherboard EPS 12vt y
4:37 so we have an additional eight pin so if
4:40 we wanted to plug that in we could plug that in and we would
4:45 have oh that's interesting no ground connections there
4:51 so I guess this is a since this is a secondary eight pin the assumption is
4:55 that pretty much no motherboards will actually require hold on just a
5:02 minute ah I get it okay no no no no no
5:05 no no no no no okay because it looks
5:08 like these these connectors are all standard so oh this is neat so you can
5:13 actually plug this in wherever you want and what it's doing is it's just
5:16 splitting there you can see there's an additional ground and an additional 12vt
5:20 there it's just splitting them so that this end goes into the motherboard which
5:23 is fully populated in this end because it's only got so many 12vs uh in the
5:28 standard pin that we're using on all of these outputs then uh yeah so it just
5:33 splits them okay so that's neat okay so you've got a an additional eight pin so
5:37 you can plug in Fancy Pants motherboards like the classified or like the big bang
5:43 X power from MSI that require multiple 8
5:46 Pin connectors well they don't require them but they can accept them uh to
5:50 provide more power to the CPU slot okay
5:53 we've got a couple PCI Express connectors okay
5:57 so these two go in much the same same fashion wherever you please and they
6:02 each have a single cable that terminates in
6:07 an 8 pin and a six pin PCI Express power
6:11 connector the eight pin is uses the same sliding design for the additional two
6:15 pins so you can take those off or put them on as you see fit there we go so
6:21 put those back together so you got two of those for up to 28 pin and 2 six pin
6:27 or 4 six pin PCI power connectors all
6:31 right next we have only one MOX cable so
6:36 this one plugs into the end it's nice and long actually very very long and
6:40 then it has four Molex and one floppy connector and they're all fairly nicely
6:44 sleeved actually that's one of the things mushin's done well on this
6:48 particular unit is they're not using a cheapo lowquality sleeving that's really
6:51 easy to see through okay and then finally we've got some SATA
6:56 cables so each of these has uh four SATA
6:59 connectors on them and it looks like yes
7:02 they are identical so up to eight SATA
7:05 connectors can be attached to the juel 700 W power
7:10 supply so things mushin's done well um
7:13 are going to be the overall oh yeah I haven't looked at the
7:17 back there you go so this is typical of a mushkin power supply instead of using
7:22 that uh honeycomb shape that we typically see so often on other power
7:26 supplies they've got their crosat shape okay we've got a power switch we've got
7:30 an input and there is no uh voltage
7:33 selection because it does accept any input voltage so they've got nice
7:37 leaving on this thing you got lots and lots of modular cables you can plug any
7:41 of the cables into any of these connectors which is really really nice
7:45 um the cables aren't super long but so
7:48 you might need an extension for your eight pin if you're running it in a bottom mounted case that's quite tall
7:53 but the 24 pin is fine and all the other ones look good I wouldn't have minded
7:57 seeing a couple more Molex connectors but you can always use adapters or use
8:01 extension cables to get more of those and the reality of it is in my personal
8:04 system I've only got a single thing connected via MOX so I guess it's not
8:09 that big of a deal anymore SATA connectors are certainly more important
8:13 so thank you for checking out my unboxing of the juel 700 wat power
