0:00 prepare yourself for some tech news and i'm talking to you keith
0:04 keith who felt like he didn't have to go to the bathroom but now that i'm
0:08 bringing it up he kind of does well there's no time because taiwan
0:12 semiconductor manufacturing co or tsmc is going to invest 25 billion dollars in
0:19 the development of 5 nanometer chip
0:22 technology this will allow them to keep their exclusive deal with apple to
0:27 supply the a series chips for the iphones and ipads of the future
0:34 five nanometer production is expected to start in 2020 but for now they are
0:39 ramping up commercial production on their seven nanometer node dismissing
0:43 that there were problems getting their mass production
0:47 up to speed by the end of the year tsmc expects to
0:50 be producing over 50 different seven
0:53 nanometer chips including apple's shiny new a12 as well as processors for AMD
1:00 NVIDIA qualcomm and bitmain
1:05 really the only company that seems to be missing from that list is Intel who are
1:10 still trying to get 10 nanometers to stick but at least they still have the
1:14 fastest consumer cpus on the market right right right well not if AMD has
1:19 anything to say about it the threadripper 2990x
1:24 is allegedly a 32 core 64 thread
1:28 processor that AMD showed off at computex without any mention of clock
1:33 speed but now a leak from a chinese source shows the exact specifications of
1:39 threadripper 2 including cinebench scores and if these are true it's going
1:44 to be one hell of a chip not like hell
1:47 like hot i mean i mean it'll probably run hot you know what i'm rolling with
1:51 it one hell of a chip apparently the threadripper 2990x will have a base
1:55 speed of three gigahertz an all core under load frequency of 3.4 and it'll
2:01 extended frequency range xfr up to 4.2
2:05 and when overclocked it's expected to do about 4.1 ish on all cores with liquid
2:10 cooling and allegedly hit 6 399 points in cinebench that's like four
2:16 and a half 8 700 k's all going at once
2:19 needless to say this thing will be a rendering beast and yes back to uh
2:25 it'll have a 250 watt TDP which is exactly why AMD
2:30 and cooler master announced a freshly
2:34 redesigned wraith ripper cooler which
2:37 should be more than enough for stock speeds but even that it's probably not enough to
2:41 overclock this thing the most important thing about it though is that it has
2:45 addressable RGB lighting since if cinebench scores don't
2:49 get your motor running flashing lights probably will
2:53 samsung has started production of an 8 terabyte SSD sporting 16 512 gig
3:00 packages on a new nf1 SSD form factor
3:05 samsung first showed these off in march with 8 and 16 terabyte drives shown but
3:10 now they're actually coming to market at first it was thought that the pci
3:14 express 4.0 interface would be used meaning that only supercomputers like
3:19 the ibm power9 could use it but samsung has clarified that it will be using the
3:25 pedestrian pci express 3.0 x4 interface
3:29 but that's not to take away from how insanely fast these things are there's
3:33 expected to be a 12 Gigabyte dram buffer on them i mean that
3:39 is more memory than many gamers have in
3:42 their whole system these drives will be aimed at large data sets and
3:47 virtualization servers with a 2u rack being able to house up to 72 of them for
3:53 over half a petabyte of storage in like
3:56 no more than this tall at this point there has been no mention of pricing but
4:01 we can assume that if you have to ask then you probably can't afford one and
4:06 now on to back quads
4:10 brought to you by ourselves specifically ltx 2018 our meetup and tech event
4:15 coming up on july 14th 2018 at the richmond olympic oval here in beautiful
4:20 british columbia if you trust what it says on our license plates it's
4:24 beautiful anyway meet the Linus tech tips team and
4:28 participate in everything from a cable management challenge to a lan tournament
4:31 to trying vr if you haven't yet to even
4:34 experiencing 12k gaming and that's only a small amount of what's on offer so
4:39 come out and see us tickets are just 35 canadian loonies which i
4:42 think is about like four american nickels something like that and you can
4:47 buy them at the link below or at ltxexpo.com
4:50 valve has released its new knuckles vr controllers which should allow you to
4:55 precisely manipulate objects in vr every
4:58 finger is tracked with a combination of capacitive touch and four sensors
5:03 allowing users to virtually touch or even crush objects in the virtual world
5:09 the knuckles are expected to ship soon certainly a lot sooner than xbox vr or a
5:14 sonic game that anyone cares about back in 2016 phil spencer announced that the
5:18 xbox scorpio would support high-end vr and that they were in works
5:24 with oculus to make the virtual dream come true but now they have admitted
5:28 that there are no longer any plans for virtual reality i doubt anyone is that
5:32 surprised because it's just not that powerful and uh the second that phil
5:38 says something will be a feature for the exponent like connect drm policies or
5:43 good first party games it's basically a kiss of death
5:46 in what's maybe not a kiss of death so much as a kiss of i don't know
5:51 resignation Intel ceo brian krazanich
5:54 will be stepping down after having a consensual relationship with one of his
6:00 employees that fraternizing
6:04 bad boy Intel's cheap financial officer robert swann will be stepping in in the
6:09 meantime and this news hasn't appeared so far to have a large effect on Intel
6:13 stock prices meaning that that uh 23
6:17 thousand dollar a day salary that he was collecting back in 2017 may not have
6:22 been fully justified if anyone cares he's gone
6:25 after announcing on wednesday that facebook will be integrating auto
6:29 playing ads into their messenger app they have gone one step further now by
6:33 announcing that they will be testing paid subscriptions to private groups
6:38 this will give group admins a way to make money by engaging with their group
6:42 but with some of them getting as high as 30 dollars a month i have a hard time
6:48 figuring out how any facebook group could possibly be worth shelling out
6:52 that kind of cash for if you really need access to your paid group though you now
6:56 can do so from the chinese province of hainan what is that transition where the
7:01 chinese government plans to lift some internet censorship to make it a more
7:06 popular destination for tourism giving visitors access to websites like
7:10 facebook twitter and youtube although ironically users in china that have
7:15 commented on the plan have been censored so um comment down below and let us know
7:22 what you think about this and finally NVIDIA has joined the giveaway train
7:26 tossing 20 ceo edition titan vs to ai researchers
7:32 the card is basically a regular titan v but this time with a whopping 32
7:37 gigabytes of vram there's nothing to not like about this except that i didn't get
7:42 one jensen come on toss me some love here and you guys can toss me some love
7:46 with that like button and uh welcome back keith you thought you could use the
7:50 washroom during that sponsor break but you were wrong invest in diapers that's
7:55 what i've been doing at my advanced age wow
7:59 subscribe for more apparently burns on Linus
8:02 hate you all especially you and you keith
