0:00 the first OLED gaming display is here
0:03 OLED I mean I've been waiting for something to bring CRT like response
0:08 time back to the PC since Canon crushed
0:12 my dreams back in 2010 by officially discontinuing development of their s
0:18 technology well OLED has that potential
0:22 but so far the best OLED displays are LG
0:25 TVs which have notoriously terrible processing leg so
0:30 the pixels can be as fast as you please but gaming still feels like telling your
0:34 friend in the Next Room which buttons to press for you which okay sorry I digress
0:39 okay so the display I'm talking about OLED gaming display it's connected to a
0:44 laptop the alien wear 13 R3 now with a
0:48 13-in OLED display in case you hadn't
0:51 picked up on that before let's take her for a
0:58 spin
1:05 Corsair's ml fans feature magnetic levitation technology and Custom
1:10 Engineered rotors to provide a high performance low noise experience learn
1:14 more at the link in the video description the Alienware 13 strikes as
1:19 fine a balance between Tastefully
1:22 aggressive looking and Gody and tacky as
1:26 any gaming PC with an alien theme possibly could and and rocks a pretty
1:31 strong I/O configuration with USB type-c and type a super speed ports on the
1:35 right an additional type A and dedicated
1:38 headphone and mic ports on the left and gigabit killer Ethernet mini display
1:44 port HDMI 2.0 Thunderbolt 3 Alien wear's
1:48 proprietary external GPU dock connector and Power in at the back flanked by some
1:54 large rear heat sinks that vent hot air down back and up for optimal cool
2:00 immediately noticeable are both its size
2:04 and weight considering the Alienware
2:07 13's 13in screen size so the numbers
2:11 listed on Dell site are meaningless the depth is based on the edge even though
2:15 the center is a full centimeter more I can't for the life of me figure out
2:19 where they measured the 23.3 mm height and the width is off by a whopping six
2:23 CM oops but anyway when I measured it
2:27 myself it worked out to about 2 L of
2:30 internal volume so for comparison the Razer Blade 14 with quite similar specs
2:36 comes in at less than 3/4 of that while weighing half a kilogram less so how can
2:42 Dell justify it well easy upgradeability
2:45 is one good way making our way to the bottom these five normal Philips head
2:49 screws are all that stand between you and the m.2 slots that you can use to
2:53 upgrader ad ssds and RAM slots that you can use to install up to 32 gigs of ddr4
2:59 RAM just like that Inspire and value gaming machine that we checked out here
3:04 unlike that one however the Alienware 13 is packing some serious heat under the
3:10 plastic cover that protects all the stuff that you shouldn't be tooling
3:13 around with this tricked out config got a COR i7 6700hq quad core with
3:18 hyperthreading 16 gigs of RAM a 512 gig
3:21 nbme SSD and a VR capable GTX 1060 with
3:25 6 gigs of vram that ended up packing more of a punch than I expected more on
3:31 that later first let's flip this puppy over and talk about the important stuff
3:36 that you're going to see and touch every time you use the machine the RGB
3:51 lighting there are nine lighting zones
3:54 including this is the first time I've seen this one an RGB trackpad which
3:59 admittedly actually looks really cool too bad its functionality could be
4:03 improved it does track accurately and feels very responsive to the touch but I
4:08 found it a bit small and I found the chin of the laptop combined with the
4:12 depth of the clicky buttons below made them a little bit awkward to use
4:17 fortunately the keyboard is mostly good news typing experience- wise it's not
4:21 the best that I've used but it's far from the worst the layout is very good
4:25 with full-sized arrow keys and the long travel distance and reassuring tactile
4:30 feel were great for gaming on top of that for a small device it feels
4:34 surprisingly not cramped maybe because
4:37 Dell ended up stashing the speakers on the side of the unit which I was all
4:42 geared up to complain about until they totally kicked my ass with solid output
4:47 volume which is necessary when using speakers on a gaming laptop fans and
4:53 surprisingly lifelike 3D positional audio they ended up being a highlight of
4:58 this machine along along with Windows hello presence detection which by the
5:02 way is still freaking amazing but not as
5:06 amazing as the display boy is it
5:09 beautiful so my config has the optional 2560 x440 OLED touchscreen monitor that
5:16 boasts perfect black levels shockingly vibrant colors and some other advantages
5:22 that were like a breath of fresh air for
5:25 a gamer who grew up on old school CRT monitors look
5:30 at the difference in Mouse movement to screen movement response time here the
5:35 blade 14 at about 40 milliseconds at 60
5:39 HZ is far from the worst I've seen But the Alienware 13 is right down around 25
5:45 milliseconds a full screen refresh faster which only accounts for faster
5:52 processing time the pixel response times contribute equally to the perceived
5:57 Clarity and responsiveness of the display because they keep the image looking
6:02 crisp even during fast camera pans it is
6:07 awesome which doesn't mean though that it's perfect It suffers from Best Buy TV
6:13 syndrome a little bit in that color saturation is off the hook but with a
6:18 little bit of tuning of in-game gamma controls I think you'll find that most
6:22 of the Shadow crushing effects can be countered for an unreal if a little
6:28 small gaming EXP experience let's talk performance and
6:32 usability now the Alienware 13 scores pretty well here in spite of the beef do
6:37 battery off-all life is unexceptional at
6:41 about 2 hours in change in PC Mark's conventional work test and one hour of
6:46 continuous Crisis 3 gaming but it runs
6:50 fanless under very light loads stays
6:53 much quieter than the blade 14 under gaming loads maintains reasonable
6:58 surface temperatures on both top and bottom while gaming and manages to do
7:02 all of that while performing as well as the blade
7:06 14 they both end up falling behind a
7:09 desktop GTX 1060 probably due to power
7:13 delivery limitations but remember guys that's to be expected especially on 1
7:18 and 1/2 to 2 L machines which leads us then to the
7:23 obvious conclusion the Alienware 13 is
7:26 the hands down winner right well maybe not
7:30 who made a better computer personally I
7:33 still prefer razer's approach but while
7:36 I'm not ready to switch to the MacBook Pro fulltime I also don't really gain
7:41 that much anymore which means that I'm willing to make some compromises there
7:46 for reduced weight and a larger display
7:50 with that said the Alienware 13 is a better pure gaming machine in almost
7:56 every way the webcam kind of sucks but the display is better the keyboard is
8:02 better I mean the list goes on iO cooling noise I mean heck even alien
8:07 wear's external GPU enclosure is cheaper
8:10 if you want to upgrade your video card down the road just like the blade don't
8:17 expect any of that to come cheap because this is a serious toy for serious
8:24 Ballers speaking of Serious toys tunnel
8:27 bear is adorable it's got these little bears and they like tunnel around but
8:33 they're also serious in that they seriously encrypt your connection and
