0:00 welcome to Linus Tech tips at CES 2013 our trip to the show this year is
0:04 powered by Corsair maker of quality PC components and peripherals our trusted
0:09 storage partner is Seagate technology and our trusted networking partner is
0:16 linkis now we're in the MSI system Suite where we've got a few different
0:20 notebooks on display there's a gt70 here which has the steel series uh zoned lit
0:26 back lit keyboard you know it's a just generally a better keyboard than you
0:30 will usually find on a typical notebook right here though this one is gorgeous
0:35 so this has an Intel quad core processor it has a GeForce 68m actually just like
0:40 the other two that are on the table in front of me it has a killer Nick 16 gigs
0:43 of RAM a 128 gig SSD plus a 128 Gs are
0:47 you for are you for real yes crazy okay tell tell us about this storage
0:51 configuration actually it's got our super raid system actually it's got two
0:55 ssds running in a raid zero configuration so your primary plus a
0:58 hard drive plus a hard drive so your primary drives are as fast as possible
1:02 you could load um Minecraft in in like
1:05 really the the fastest possible speed oh good thank you I was concerned about how
1:09 quickly I could load Minecraft here we've got the gt60 which is basically a
1:13 15-in version also has the steel series keyboard also has a 68m and is also a
1:19 quad core now I'd like to move over to this little number right over here this
1:24 is the gx60 so what's special about this Alex I mean we can clearly see you've
1:28 got a bunch of monitors on the table but why have you done that the gx60 is
1:32 special because it's got the AMD radio on HD 7970m and using this mobile
1:39 processor mobile graphics processor you could actually run ifinity on a notebook
1:43 and this is something that's uh you know usually ifinity or any multi-display
1:48 gaming is usually reserved for desktop you know graphic cards and desktop
1:53 systems but this is the a first for mobile system now you're probably not
1:57 going to be running Far Cry 3 at full detail on something like this but from a
2:02 productivity standpoint it would be great to be able to plug in at home fire
2:05 up two additional monitors and so you can game on the notebook you can use
2:09 three displays for your office applications yeah but I mean if you were
2:12 running like a dx9 game uh that's a little bit less as far as the graphics
2:16 is concerned and even if you limit down the resolution of the the the secondary
2:21 monitors you can actually play at a you know pretty decent frame ratees very
2:25 cool stuff finishing up the MSI system Suite we have a couple of really cool
2:30 notebooks you might notice that they look very similar to the gaming
2:34 notebooks that we just saw before but the key difference is that these include
2:39 Quadro graphics cards so this guy is the k1000 and the guy on your right is the
2:45 k2000 what that means is when you're accelerating professional applications
2:49 you are going to be able to take advantage of not only the performance
2:53 acceleration you get from Cuda but also some of the quadro optimizations that
2:57 are made in the driver and in the GPU so Alex can you tell us why these look like
3:01 the gaming models the biggest the biggest reason why these are the uh look
3:06 like the gaming models is because the quadril GPU itself actually looks very
3:11 it's not sorry not looks it's h very similar to the desktop gForce very
3:16 version and the gaming notebooks have the proper thermal in place design wise
3:21 to vent the heat uh from the quadro chips themselves now I would like to uh
3:27 you know pull off a little magic trick and I'm going to pull the coolest thing in the MSI system Suite out of my
3:32 proverbial buttocks and show you guys
3:36 this freaking cool Ultrabook so it looks
3:40 like a tablet but they're calling it Ultrabook why is it called an Ultrabook
3:46 because bam not only that but you can
3:49 adjust the angle you want to use it at it's a little bit stiff so that you can
3:52 basically put it wherever you want so this is a core i5 what are you guys
3:55 calling this guy this is called the this is called the s20 slider it's obviously
4:00 uh sliding and and uh you can actually use it as a tablet you can use it for
4:04 for multiple things you know and uh you can also download all of the apps off of
4:08 the the Xbox Live store I think whatever
4:12 they call their Market whatever they call it I'm not I haven't used the used this this this particular setup yet so
4:18 so guys it's got an IPS screen 10-point multitouch and unlike a lot of tablets
4:24 check this out you've actually got things like Ethernet connectivity you've
4:27 got here we go again H mini HDMI you've
4:31 got two USB 3.0 ports so this really is
4:35 an Ultra Book cuz you have to build those into your specification to get
4:39 that Ultrabook stamp of approval from Intel but you can use it as a tablet and
4:44 what kind of battery life are you getting out of this guy uh it's got pretty good battery life it's good it's
4:48 a good five or six hours if not longer I I actually have not tested the entire
4:53 you know thing to its full extent you know but you can extrapolate based on
4:57 how long it's lasting here at the show while you're showing it to it one one
5:00 charge will basically last us practically an entire day's worth of you
5:04 know regular just messing around on Ms paint or
5:07 whatever all right guys so don't miss any of our CES 2013 coverage and as
