0:00 so it's no secret we have some uh
0:03 stability problems around here hey I'm
0:07 talking about the W Show streaming computer what are you implying anyway
0:13 it's Friday which means of course that today is the perfect day to follow
0:18 through on my commitment to Corsair they called me up they were like we love the
0:22 W show we think it's the greatest show the best except that it has a few small
0:28 problems the audio sucks the video cuts out and the system is unstable what are
0:32 you going to do about it they said look we will sponsor you to fix the W show so
0:39 today we are rebuilding the W show PC we are redoing the streaming setup and it
0:44 is all courtesy of our friends at
0:47 Corsair the W show now with 300% more
0:58 RGB
1:02 so the first step in any disassembly project and my parents would do well to
1:06 remember this is to take pictures of everything involved so you have
1:10 something to refer back to when it's time to put it all back together though
1:16 with all the cables that straight up weren't even connected to anything from
1:20 troubleshooting stream issues over the last couple of years I'm not even sure
1:25 how helpful they'll be some of the old n
1:30 PC's Hardware will be reused the x99
1:33 deluxe motherboard and 6 core 5930k CPU
1:38 got a dust off because they were already added a couple of months back to address
1:42 stability performance and resource allocation issues but pretty much
1:47 everything else is going to go we've got 64 gigs of Corsair Vengeance LED RAM in
1:53 white an NVMe sp500 SSD a tempered glass
1:58 case with RGB lighting I mean come at this 2017 what else was I going to use
2:04 an RM 1000x power supply even more RGB
2:08 now with the fans Corsair sent us extra
2:12 for the aiio water cooler and the rear slot and some orange sleeved cables to
2:18 manage along with all the other cables
2:22 man cable management is tough in an all glass case and I don't make matters
2:27 easier for myself when I put in in the wrong order the good news is that the
2:34 finished product IMO is totally worth
2:37 the effort this thing looks badass next up it's time to tear the
2:43 rest of the stuff on the desk apart for some good oldfashioned Cable Management
2:48 there is a lot of wasted space here and
2:52 holy crap is this table ever dirty I
2:55 don't think it's been clean since we moved and neither have the multiple bins
3:00 under the desk that make up what I call the streaming gear graveyard in here
3:06 you'll find everything that stopped working for us at some point or
3:12 another reassembly time now I'm going to
3:16 put all the wicked stuff that Focus right hooked us up with into the Retro
3:22 server cabinet I made a video about here
3:26 these guys are awesome they flew all the
3:29 way out here to not just set us up with gear but to actually set it up with us
3:36 it starts with a solid new microphone an se4400a on a road ARM it's got a handful
3:42 of pickup patterns including cardioid and super cardioid it sounds awesome but
3:48 could be improved by some acoustic baffles in front of the table stay tuned
3:52 our Soundcraft mixer mainly serves as
3:56 well a mixing board so the main feature is just Lots of places to plug stuff in
4:02 this allows us to use Hardware rather than software to adjust audio levels EQ
4:07 controls and to send auxiliary outputs with a different mix our dbx 166 XS
4:15 compressor is back we actually bought
4:18 this ages ago because theoretically it
4:22 would make it so Luke doesn't sound so quiet all the time and I'm not clipping
4:26 when I'm ranting unfortunately we and
4:30 didn't have a preamp for it that's why it never worked which is exactly where
4:34 Focus right Z 18i 20 comes in we could
4:39 use it to accept up to 20 inputs with an
4:42 optical expander we could do our headphone monitoring off of it instead
4:47 of the dedicated headphone app that Focus R set us up with as well but we're
4:51 just concerned with the quality of the audio capture in this case and focus
4:56 rights claim to fame is their awesome preamps
5:00 is it Overkill yes and so is the 6 I6 that
5:05 we're using purely as a digital input for an additional laptop on the table
5:11 but hey come on this is lineus Tech tips we're also going to use it to monitor
5:15 audio levels to ensure that no other parts of the audio chain need to be
5:20 adjusted in the event that we change our microphone pickup pattern placement or
5:24 even our microphone all together so next
5:28 up is moving the computer into place and upgrading the
5:32 peripherals okay arguably the peripherals are a bit of a side grade
5:36 but going from a full size to a 10 keyless keyboard gives me a lot of extra
5:41 space for laptops and stuff loving it so
5:44 far time then for some cable management
5:48 this dudad from the manly guide to cable management is awesome and so are the 3D
5:53 printed velcro tie anchors that Jake whipped up on our ultimaker 2 another
5:58 big improve Improvement is that now both of our hosts get HDMI cables for their
6:03 laptops we're running these and our
6:07 camera into new capture cards from epan
6:11 I can't say enough good things about these we've actually been using them for
6:15 a couple months for the W show as well and for screen capture around the office
6:20 and they're responsible for some very significant improvements in our
6:23 production values they just make it so
6:27 easy to capture at any resolution
6:30 without tinkering and did I mention they're Canadian flipping awesome the
6:35 capture cards are USB so we needed to add another USB card to the system to
6:40 avoid resource conflicts with three of them attached but once we figured that
6:44 out it was smooth sailing and I really
6:48 have nothing else to say about them time to power things up then I asked cable
6:53 mod for five power cables some
6:56 combination of orange black and carbon
6:59 they sent five each of multiple styles
7:03 of sleeving of each color holy crap you
7:07 guys anyway at least they look great
7:10 once they're in place and I will put the giant box of power cables that I have
7:14 left over in a corner somewhere so time to hook back up and
7:20 power up the audio gear and take you guys now on a grand tour of the finished
7:25 setup Hallelujah the wo computer is on we are
7:32 ready to tour the finished wo set so
7:37 Improvement number one to make it so the wow is more likely to be on time these
7:43 TPL link um Wi-Fi smart plug things
7:47 basically we just use an app when this
7:50 phone is dead but don't worry about it there's an app we use an app press a
7:54 button and boom when show lighting turns on Improvement number two
8:00 we won't trip over this while we're running around getting ready for w show
8:04 Improvement number three dramatically
8:07 better Cable Management now instead of
8:11 having the entire desk full of the gear that we need to run W show it'll just be
8:16 full of the gear that we need to host when show so we'll have our streaming
8:21 computer our laptops we've got HDMI
8:24 cables for our laptops we've got uh oh
8:27 yes all of the audio gear off the table replaced by a power Distribution Hub
8:32 thing here which is awesome all our audio gear is in this badass retro
8:38 server cabinet thing and our when PC is
8:42 of course heavily upgraded to be much
8:45 more reliable and much sexier all at the same
8:52 time so I guess I better get this show on the
8:56 road then shall I
