0:00 okay so apple releases the latest macbook pro now
0:04 super thin so you're gonna need something to protect its beautifully
0:08 finished surface and without any damn ports because you know
0:13 whatever yolo so the average person
0:18 thinks well gee i guess i'll just get myself
0:21 a case okay
0:24 so there's your case and i'll get myself a doc so i've got a
0:29 bunch of ports
0:33 okay whatever anyway the point is
0:36 that's thinking inside the box meet
0:39 the duck case it's a case
0:43 it's a dock
0:55 experience MSI's gs63 vr laptop now with
0:59 NVIDIA's GeForce gtx 1070 max-q check it
1:03 out at the link below so i had never actually heard of this
1:07 company before they're sort of
1:11 like in india except i don't think they are at all there's really nothing on
1:16 here at all which made me think that because these guys are doing a
1:20 crowdfunding campaign that they were like an unheard of nobody but then when
1:24 i got my shipment it was from somewhere in china that seems to be some kind of
1:31 fairly well established electronics manufacturer although maybe
1:36 they're like contract manufacturing
1:42 oh there we go
1:47 that was exhausting all right so inside i actually have no idea if
1:53 there are any options or anything like that but it looks like what i've got
1:57 is sort of a uh a faux leather kind of uh affair here
2:03 there is a magnetic sleeve closing mechanism here
2:09 okay look i don't do a lot of videos on laptop cases the only reason i'm doing
2:13 this one is because i thought that this whole concept was pretty novel so this
2:18 is the beta version we invite you to review this product constructive
2:22 feedback will be delivered to our product team
2:25 very cool this sticker's ugly you're ugly that's my feedback karen
2:31 you can go so let's try it out oh right accessories
2:36 so you also get what i hope
2:40 is a Thunderbolt cable that would be pretty sick
2:43 but it is not labeled actually there's a little bit of paint on here and then
2:47 we've got maybe it's a driver cd
2:51 oh oh unboxing experience ruined forget it
2:56 i'm going back to my trailer
3:00 okay i've sorted up my trauma and we're going to open this up
3:03 more silver more silver paper quick start guide
3:07 first of all let's see you know how well the macbook fits i mean when you're
3:11 gonna build a case that is exactly made for one
3:14 particular laptop you better get the fit right
3:19 wow this thing's probably going to be really expensive just based on like this
3:23 really nice closed cell foam in it see that's the kind of stuff where like
3:27 you can tell they're going for the premium market that cares more about
3:31 having beautiful packaging than about saving a buck
3:34 all right in terms of the fit though that's quite nice
3:39 there's a little bit of leeway from side to side
3:43 okay whoop okay yeah that obviously wasn't gonna go
3:47 very well it seems like you're supposed to put your cable right up here i mean maybe
3:52 that was in the quick start guide no not in the quick start guide
3:58 okay fine i do actually see why they want you uh looking at the instructions
4:03 because i thought that this was a simple
4:07 like Thunderbolt configuration but it's not
4:11 this is a usb type c
4:14 but usb dock not a Thunderbolt dock
4:17 which makes sense because why would you be powering it when you're out and about
4:21 so it's actually got three usb type-c
4:24 ports so this one at the back then
4:28 you just kind of sit it there on top of the case
4:32 so this one at the back plugs into your
4:36 dang it into your power port on the laptop
4:40 and it's not the world's most elegant solution but like it should be fine
4:45 this is what happens when you don't actually use your mac every time you
4:49 turn it on it's like
4:52 okay so this is interesting now the way
4:55 i had thought it would work is that you plug this into the power and you get
4:59 power pass through but the laptop actually doesn't charge
5:05 while you're plugged in like that so then i thought okay well maybe it's this
5:09 one but that's not this is just a regular usb 3.1 port these are 3.0 micro
5:15 sd sd HDMI Ethernet so no if you want to
5:19 actually charge your device at the same
5:23 time you have to plug them both in
5:26 but what i don't know is how that affects the functionality of
5:31 the dock let's try plugging something in on it
5:36 so let's try plugging in networking
5:41 hold on yeah you got to plug in on the other
5:45 side this is the very definition of jacking
5:48 someone's stuff get it because it's john's Ethernet jack
5:53 yeah anyway
6:01 what if i plug in like a a usb device or something okay this is
6:06 bizarre so this is clearly pre-production there are
6:10 some tolerance issues with the ports so when this light was red that was bad i
6:15 had to wiggle this back one a little bit it turned green and now
6:19 check it out so my fatty 32
6:22 usb drive shows up the dock appears to be working
6:26 but networking still isn't working even though it's gray
6:31 another revelation is that with this port re-wiggled yes
6:37 the power does pass through so your wall jack powers both the hub and the macbook
6:43 hey okay there we go
6:46 fantastic so it's got gigabit networking
6:50 which is a plus not all docks especially inexpensive
6:54 ones have gigabit and uh all that's left now is i guess to
6:58 throw on a monitor and make sure the HDMI works okay all right
7:08 let's see
7:11 boom just like that not bad
7:15 so then are we solving an incredibly first world problem here of
7:20 you know not wanting to carry around a
7:23 slightly bigger case and a dongle like this so this one in
7:28 particular has almost exactly the same i
7:31 o microsd sd power pass through gigabit
7:34 Ethernet three usb threes and HDMI
7:40 yes we are but is this actually a pretty cool solution
7:46 well if i didn't think so then when they reached out about sending us one
7:51 i would have said no forget it that looks stupid
7:54 so yeah i like it there you go
