0:07 welcome to my unboxing of the seate Backup Plus for Mac this is a portable
0:11 drive versus their more desktop oriented
0:14 Drive which I also happen to have here now the key difference between the Mac
0:17 SKS and the PC SKS is things like color
0:20 and things like the included cables because PCS are generally going to be
0:24 USB 3 and Mac are generally not going to be USB 3 because apple and their
0:29 Infinite Wisdom doesn't believe in USB 3 although they'll probably change their
0:32 tune now that Intel's integrated it onto their chipsets um you also see so you
0:36 see things like fire wire 800 included instead of uh USB 3 although this one
0:41 looks like it is just USB 2 so in this
0:45 case the uh the Mac edition the Mac edition one gets the shaft because uh it
0:51 just gets a silver housing which I guess will look better with your Mac it is
0:54 time machine compatible although so is so is anything with uh you know storage
0:58 on it and it is macOS compatible but then again so is anything with storage
1:02 on it because it is also Windows compatible and it just comes down to
1:05 what the preconfigured formatting is so time to P social media ah this is cool
1:10 though Backup Plus drives have software that not only allow you to easily back
1:13 up your computer but also your social media so they're mostly focused on
1:17 Facebook right now hence the Facebook logo on the back of the drive you can back up all of the photos that you've
1:21 already uploaded to Facebook once you uh throw your account credentials on here
1:25 so you can make sure that it can actually grab them for you and they're looking at adding support for additional
1:29 social media sites in the future flexible for all your needs Mac users
1:34 increase transfer rate by upgrading to firewire or Thunderbolt adapter which you can get sold separately although
1:38 that Thunderbolt one's probably pretty pricey however if you wanted to get the
1:42 most out of actually running applications directly off the drive or whatever the case may be you probably do
1:47 want to use Thunderbolt versus firewire 800 which is sort of slow quick start
1:51 guide all right and a very Apple looking
1:54 drive going on in here so we got just like a Seagate logo
1:59 ly thing it's kind of silver on the top kind of white on the bottom which is
2:04 about as apple as it gets silver and
2:08 white I mean could it be more Apple if it tried I guess they could put an Apple
2:13 logo on it but Apple might get upset they tend not to really like that if you
2:16 just go and like put an Apple logo on things it's not that I'm saying Seagate would want to put an Apple logo on their
2:20 product I mean Seagate is a well-respected brand I don't know why
2:24 they'd go uh you know putting apple on it that wouldn't help my opinion um
2:31 sorry that was my uh that was my PC Gamer hat that I was wearing there I'm
2:34 taking it off now um so anyway we got a Seagate logo thing going on we got a o
2:39 nice aluminum top so that's something the PC version didn't get um however
2:44 they did get a usb3 chipset so the good thing about all of that though is
2:48 because these are using the seate sort of glex I don't know if they still use
2:51 that I guess USM is the new branding for it but uh whatever it is they use their
2:56 modular interfaces at the back which means it's just a sated Drive in a you
2:59 know plas plastic // aluminum enclosure and then all you have to do if you want
3:03 to use a different interface with it is Source a different interface cable
3:06 whether it's Thunderbolt firewire 800 USB 3 doesn't matter you Source a
3:11 different interface
3:14 module plug it into the drive and now
3:18 this is a stylish looking like brush oh did I say the PC one wasn't metal no
3:23 it's not metal okay stylish brushed looking you know
3:27 black/ silver SL white drop
3:30 that is now USB 3 ready it's that simple guys because all of the logic is
3:34 actually in here not here this is just a drive and I I love this concept because
3:40 it has saved my bacon any number of times when I've gone compared to
3:44 traditional Solutions which were that the enclosure had all the logic built
3:48 into it and then you had whatever interfaces you had if you wanted to have two different interfaces you had to have
3:52 them both you had to have all the logic you had to spend more on your drive in
3:55 order to in order to make sure that you'd be able to plug it into whatever you want well I just have a bunch of
4:00 these cables lying around these days and then if I ever run into a scenario where
4:04 I'm like oh shoot that system doesn't support usb3 but it does have power D
4:08 and I want to get the best performance possible I throw my power D SATA one on
4:11 there plug in my drive and I'm good to go so uh that is that is the solution
4:15 for that and that's why I like it so uh oh yeah look at that this one also has
4:20 like a raised like sexy shiny Seagate logo and this one has just like a flat
4:24 Cate logo this one's like more better shinier and it's oh running out of
4:30 battery too so I think that pretty much covers it anyway so thank you for checking out my unboxing at the Backup
