0:10 hello my name is lonus Sebastian and I
0:14 have not been held captive at Intel's headquarters since releasing a video
0:19 stating I did not agree with Intel's direction for the x299
0:26 platform but if that were the case I'm
0:29 sure tell would have treated me very
0:34 well I would also like to go like to go
0:37 on record as stating that in reference to my statements in that video that
0:46 I that that I was that I stand by everything I
0:53 said I'm out of here I'm pting
0:58 out
1:06 Synergy allows you to share your mouse and keyboard between multiple computers
1:11 at once check it out now at the link in the video
1:17 description okay so silly intro aside
1:21 obviously I have spoken to Intel since we made this video I've expressed my
1:27 concerns and you know what they're big boys and girls who can handle a bit of
1:30 constructive criticism so obviously we're still working together x299 then
1:37 let's do a short recap for those of you who didn't see our previous video
1:42 Intel's brand new core I 9 chips plug
1:45 into motherboards with a brand new LGA 2066 socket that's connected to a brand
1:51 new chipset x299 that features more
1:55 updated IO more PCI Express Lanes and a
2:00 four-lane DMI 3.0 link ooh and finer
2:04 overclocking controls so pretty straightforward more and more better
2:09 what's less straightforward and how you take this is up to you is that the
2:14 socket now handles two separate
2:17 generations of CPUs the first Sky Lake X
2:22 is about what you would expect it's this year's Enthusiast grade High Core count
2:28 processor based on last year's quad core
2:32 Max consumer grade processor so we get
2:35 some fancy architectural improvements we get turbo boost max that bumps up two
2:41 cores instead of only one and finally
2:44 support for AVX 512 outside of
2:49 Zeon and the second is KB Lake X in an
2:54 attempt to appease hardcore overclockers
2:58 Intel based basically took their consumer grade kbl Lake chips disabled
3:05 their integrated Graphics processors and
3:08 glued them onto bigger packages with
3:12 better power delivery characteristics and bigger heat spreaders Intel hopes
3:18 that these chips will be a boon to folks who don't have $1,000 for a core I9
3:24 today but want to have a solid upgrade
3:27 path in the future for my part I feel
3:31 like only being able to populate half of
3:35 the RAM slots on a quad Channel board
3:38 and having PCI Express bandwidth
3:41 potentially cut to less than half is a
3:46 really confusing experience though I
3:49 would love to hear from you guys in the comments if you feel differ but wait
3:55 what less PCIe bandwidth I thought you said more okay
4:02 so for the topend core I9 we actually
4:05 get more than ever 44 versus 40 on the
4:10 previous Flagship 6950x where that potentially less than
4:14 half bit comes from is that anything
4:17 other than a core I9 gets far less as
4:21 few as only 16 which could affect the
4:24 performance of demanding Enthusiast features like SLI 10 gbit networking m.2
4:32 raid or Thunderbolt 3 and on the subject of m.2 raid it looks like vrock doesn't
4:38 have pricing yet and Intel actually isn't quite sure how they're going to roll that out but the good news is you
4:44 can boot from NVMe raid if it goes through the chipset without doing any of
4:49 that stuff it's only if it goes through the CPU that the vrock module is going
4:54 to come into play so let's get into benchmarks then we uh
5:01 unfortunately didn't get a kbl lake X CPU in time for this video but we did
5:06 get the 10 core core I9 7900x the least expensive option with
5:13 the full 44 PCI Express Lanes this along
5:17 with our Nifty AF ASUS Prime x299 Deluxe
5:21 some uh overclocking elbow grease all
5:25 X200 compatible chips are unlocked and
5:28 some validated memory from gskill gives us our main test bench today for
5:33 comparison we'll be looking at the z270 based core i7
5:38 7700k our x99 bench featuring last gen's
5:43 much more expensive 10 core and while we
5:46 don't have Threadripper yet we've thrown AMD's ryzen 1800x into The Fray
5:52 for comparison so in gaming there's clearly
5:57 no major difference between any of our CPUs at 4K 1080p tells a bit of a
6:05 different Tale But frankly none of this is a surprise clock speed is still King
6:11 when it comes to games and until properly implemented Vulcan and
6:16 directx12 games are common place that isn't going to change anytime soon as
6:23 for productivity this is cool one
6:26 interesting aspect of Skylake X's design is that it moves from relying heavily on
6:32 a ton of level three cach to relying
6:35 more on its higher speed level two cache
6:39 so where Broadwell e had 256 kilobytes
6:42 of level two per core Skylake X has a whopping one Meg each and the level
6:47 three becomes what's known as a victim cache so where One Core might look for
6:53 data in the level three find it isn't there but in another cor's level two
6:58 where it can then get push pushed to the level three cash that leaves the most
7:02 relevant cached data in the fastest cash
7:05 more often which results in some of the performance gains that we're seeing here
7:09 which is great given how core I 9 is intended to be used in everything from
7:14 high-end gaming rigs to high-end
7:18 workstations so core I9 7900x then great
7:23 performance and compared to Broadwell e
7:27 great price great relief then right in a
7:31 vacuum yes but the elephant that hasn't
7:35 yet entered the room is AMD's Threadripper Intel is faced with the
7:40 disadvantage of having shot first with
7:43 x299 and AMD has some time to tweak
7:47 their upcoming Threadripper CPU lineup which it said will be available with up
7:52 to 16 cores and 64 PCI Lanes so they
7:57 could put the gears to Intel on pricing
8:01 at which time Intel whose 12 14 16 and
8:06 18 core models will be arriving between August and Q4 of this year will have to
8:12 figure out how to respond if at all so you know what I am still
8:17 frustrated that it took Intel this long to wake up and I do still think that
8:24 this CPU lineup is unnecessarily confusing but whatever they're
8:29 motivation AMD's Innovation or their unconditional love for
8:34 enthusiasts it is true this is a great
8:37 release because we're back to Intel and AMD playing Lea frog and that is just
8:45 great Synergy solves once and for all
8:48 the problem of having two keyboards and two mice at your desk it lets you share
8:53 a single mouse and keyboard between two or more computers so you'll know no
8:59 longer confuse which one is for which you just move the mouse
9:05 across they offer a basic and pro option
9:08 with onetime payment for Lifetime access and they have tons of great features
9:12 like clipboard sharing between the computers dragging and dropping files
9:15 between them the ability to set up hotkeys and even the ability to use
9:20 computers with different operating systems we're talking Windows we're
9:23 talking Mac we're even talking Linux so use our Link in the video description
9:28 and get50 50% off of synergy today or
9:32 tomorrow but don't wait too long so thanks for watching guys if this
9:37 video sucked you know what to do but if it was awesome get subscribed hit that
