0:07 welcome to my unboxing of a legitimately very high-end product with the Jonathan
0:12 fatality wendle branding so we've seen our fair share of fatality products that
0:18 the positioning is like yeah they're pretty good but they're a little bit
0:22 expensive for what they deliver or they don't do anything particularly
0:25 differently from their competitor such as you know remember the old Al fatality
0:30 heat sinks where the fatality one had a red LED instead of a blue LED and it
0:36 cost significantly more well this fatality product is a legitimately
0:41 awesome product of its own right and it just happens to have the Jonathan
0:45 fatality branding which I mean doesn't actually look that bad because this is
0:48 like a cool logo and red as long as it goes with your color scheme is pretty
0:52 good it wouldn't fit with my system cuz I'm going for a blue and black color
0:55 scheme but if you have a red color scheme or no color scheme at all then
0:59 this should work Prett pretty well say for example if you have a republic of Gamers motherboard actually before we
1:03 open it up let's get into what exactly is going on with this product so one is
1:08 it is a 1,000 wat power supply it is modular although not fully modular so
1:12 I'll show you what that means once we open it up it has a 5year ocz power swap
1:16 warranty which basically means it has a 5year warranty it's 80 plus gold and
1:20 according to um oh here here's an aside
1:23 so if you guys want to know the absolute Goods as far as power supply performance
1:28 goes maybe not subject to ity maybe not you know the look or whatever else but
1:32 that's less important when it comes to power supplies check out Johnny guru.com
1:35 they do the best power supply reviews by far according to them the performance of
1:39 this unit is outstanding and it does meet the 80 plus gold certification so a
1:44 lot of the times in fact huh a funny story um I don't I'm not going to name
1:48 any names but one company submitted a power supply I believe this was back
1:52 when 80 plus silver was like the sexy certification they submitted it to the
1:57 ad0 plus organization with shorter
2:00 cables than the actual retail unit had
2:03 and that little bit of extra a little bit of extra resistance in the longer
2:07 cables was enough to knock it out of 80 plus silver but they got the
2:10 certification even though the unit they delivered to Market wasn't actually 80
2:14 plus silver so this one is actually 80 plus cool what else we got here
2:18 continuous output rated at a demanding 50 c ambient temperature but with 100%
2:23 Japanese low Sr on 105° Centigrade
2:26 capacitors single 12vt rail which means that you can easily plug things wherever
2:30 which way you want without worrying about any over uh overcurrent
2:33 protections compliant with the latest ATX standard large temperature controll
2:36 load temperature and load controlled 140 mm double ball bearing fan with a red
2:41 LED 80 plus gold okay active power
2:44 factor correction it better have it if it's a highend power supply these days heavy duty protection circuitry okay GE
2:50 okay fiveyear Power extremely cool and quiet yeah let's go ahead and open this
2:54 up I'm actually really excited about this product because it is the first to
2:59 Market with with individually sleeved cables out of the box so yeah it's a
3:02 little over 200 bucks so it's not cheap this is not a cheap power supply but it
3:07 is a 1,00 wat power supply it is 80 plus gold it is modular and it has
3:12 individually sleeve cables now individually sleeve cables whether you
3:15 believe that is a selling point or a disadvantage is up to you personally I
3:19 believe it's a selling point I think it looks slick I think that as far as a
3:23 value proposition goes when you compare this power supply to one that doesn't
3:27 have individually sleeve cables but maybe has a kit available like with
3:30 Corsair or if you use those um here let
3:33 me see if I can find one I should have o sorry uh I should have one lying
3:38 around with ah yes there we go or if you buy these extension cables in order to
3:44 um you know hide the not individually sleeve part of your cable and then you
3:47 know wrap this around where you actually see it that is going to add up pretty
3:51 quickly in terms of the cost of your power supply so you would be better off
3:55 to buy the one that already comes with it and presents a good value
4:00 by doing so now the disadvantage of individually sleeve cables is they do
4:03 make the cables quite a bit bulkier so these are here here we go so this is
4:08 what individually sleeve cables look they're actually using a very reasonable quality sleeving on here I'd say the
4:13 heat shrink might be a touch on the long side but it's not the end of the world
4:17 here's what but here's what they look like so you have to decide whether that
4:20 aesthetic is for you sorry when that's plugged in then it actually won't move
4:24 at all and uh you can you can you'll have you'll want to cut these off and
4:28 then get things arranged really nice nice get them running really flat behind your motherboard so they do make them
4:32 bulkier but I believe where you see them they actually look a lot sharper
4:36 especially in places like graphics cards where you can run the individually
4:40 sleeve cables you know they plug into your graphics card like this and then you have them you know wrapped out like
4:44 that it's better than seeing any color you don't want to see any color to the cables and these uh these definitely
4:49 prevent that from happening another cool thing about the individually sleeve cables is if you're running one that
4:53 takes an eight and a six pin you go ahead you uh just clip this off take
4:58 these two run them somewhere else in entirely and you don't have to have that extra two cables or that extra two pins
5:03 just kind of randomly hanging off of your uh video card comes with a beefy
5:08 power cable comes with a few black zip ties as
5:13 well as uh four black screws for installing your power supply I did not
5:17 mention the instruction manual but there you go it also comes in a little
5:21 fatality wendle plastic and you know
5:24 paper bag um and comes with modular
5:27 cables so right this is a semi modular powerst Supply not fully modular which
5:31 means that it has some cables preattached and some that come in a
5:34 baggie and look like this so let's go through the pre-attached ones first the
5:37 pre-attached ones are your 24 pin cable
5:41 which looks like this next you've got a
5:45 4 plus4 so that is an 8 pin connector for your motherboard next you have two
5:51 PCIe 6 plus 2 pins so you have
5:54 everything you need if basically if you are buying a 1,000 W power supply and
5:58 you are not using using at least these four cables you're probably doing it
6:02 wrong so I have no problem with them attaching these cables although you see
6:06 some semi modular power supplies as I like to call them that have like a bunch
6:10 of weird stuff attached like I have one semi modular power supply that has two
6:15 eight pins and a four pin CPU connector
6:18 all permanently attached to the power supply is ridiculous I mean what what
6:22 kind of system are you installing an 850 W power supply in that needs three CPU
6:26 connectors cuz you're using a Server Motherboard so so stuff like that I
6:30 would like to see it be fully modular rather than pre-attached to the power
6:34 supply now let's have a look at what we have in terms of modular cables so let's
6:39 find all of our SATA got that one there we got uh hold
6:44 on we got some MOX we got some
6:47 PCI got some more PCI we got another
6:50 eight pin CPU and then we have a couple of Molex to Floppy uh adapter
6:55 doodads oh even those look sharp look at that looks fantastic
7:00 I love it not everyone does but I do so let's have a look at our SATA
7:04 cable these again individually sleeved they look Fantasmic so they got four
7:11 connectors on each of our three cables
7:14 let's just make sure they both they all have four yes they do yes they do you
7:19 can see how sharp these look very nicely
7:22 terminated in there you can see they've actually put the heat shrink on um from
7:25 what I can tell purely for decoration because these SATA connectors uh bite
7:29 right in into the wire so they probably just are running a single continuous
7:33 piece of sleeve all the way down the uh the individual wire here and then just
7:39 uh just putting these on for looks cuz you can see the sleeving actually runs
7:42 right uh right through which makes them
7:45 very very very sharp looking and that is the reason why someone might want to buy
7:50 an individually sleeved power supply so the next one we've got here is our uh
7:56 eight pin CPU connector so we've got another one of these so this guy will
8:00 plug in right about
8:03 here okay that matches the other one so if you did happen to have a power supply
8:07 that needs a couple of eight pin connectors you would be covered and the
8:10 power supply does have enough excuse me oh those are kind of
8:15 tight there we go does have enough modular connectors for up to okay
8:20 remember we got two 6 plus2 PCIe four
8:23 more 6 plus2 PCI for up to three-way um
8:27 three-way SLI or Crossfire then we have another one for the four pin CPU as well
8:32 as the pre-attached one so or eight pin CPU so preattached one we can have up to
8:35 two of those and then up to five peripheral connectors so that is the
8:39 SATA ones as well as the uh Molex on so MOX wise we
8:44 have two of those each with four four
8:47 pin peripheral connectors once again these are terminated very very cleanly
8:51 you can see they're actually using black wires as well so that's why you can't see any color whatsoever through the
8:56 cables and finally let's have a look at the PC C Express cables that are
9:00 included so length on these looks pretty good you can see that they've they've
9:05 put these little uh these little zip ties on all of them just to help you I
9:08 guess to help you route them the first time around personally I just take them all off and then just do as clean a job
9:13 as I can of of routing the cables they look really really sharp when you get
9:17 them sort of tucked away just right um
9:21 so that you get a nice bundle coming out of whatever component that they have to
9:25 happen to be plugged into looks really really really nice so we've got four of
9:29 the as well so you can plug in all of the modular cables that come with the power
9:33 supply but you don't have to cuz it's modular so let's have a look at the
9:37 aesthetic of the unit so there you got your silhouette of uh Jonathan Wendell I
9:42 think that picture was taken like eight years ago but he still looks pretty similar I ran into him at CES last year
9:47 th000 wat power supply ocz technology all pretty standard Fair got a little
9:51 fatality logo going on here as well as 140 mm red LED lit fan you can see huh
9:56 nice touch actually hey check that out even the PCB inside is red can you see
9:59 that down at the bottom red PCB down at the
10:05 bottom yeah there you go okay there we go uh you can see correctly oriented
10:10 they also have the uh fatality logo over here so you can see if I turn around
10:13 this way it's upside down that means that whether your case mounts the power
10:17 supply on the top or the bottom your
10:20 logo will be correct side up very nice
10:24 uh finally we got yet another sort of fatality looking logo here there's the
10:27 closeup of the modular interface and then at the back we're going to find
10:31 things look pretty standard with a honeycomb Grill as well as a nice big on
10:35 andof switch and our power in overall
10:38 spec of the unit you can see it can deliver up to 996 watts of its total 1,000 watts of
10:44 continuous power on the 12vt rail which means no matter what you load this thing
10:47 up with unless you are sucking more than
10:50 110 Watts from the wall you're pretty much not going to run into any
10:54 difficulty let me tell you making a configuration like that
10:58 wouldn't be easy so thank you for checking out my unboxing and first look
11:01 at the fatality 1000 W 80 plus gold
11:05 power supply with the individually sleeved cables which I personally think
11:08 is a huge selling point although not everyone might agree but I think it's
11:11 awesome and don't forget to subscribe to lus Tech tips for more unboxings reviews
