0:00 The world without cables is sooner than you think.
0:03 We checked out the Peakdo Wireless HDMI last year on LTT,
0:07 and it had really surprisingly good results, actually.
0:10 It could only do 1080p60 or 4K30, but it was good.
0:16 Like, there was basically zero input lag,
0:18 and it worked as described.
0:19 It got us like 30 to 40 foot range or something like that.
0:23 The big difference, though, between this
0:25 and the Peakdo stuff we used last year
0:27 is the Peakdo thing is a transmitter and receiver
0:29 on its own.
0:30 This is a wireless display, and it's got a battery built in.
0:34 So, I mean, that's like zero wires, basically.
0:37 Whoa.
0:39 It's not very heavy.
0:40 That's it.
0:41 It's tiny.
0:42 It's like 13.3 inches, but this is also a touchscreen,
0:47 which not gonna be used by everyone,
0:50 but it's a cool feature nonetheless.
0:52 There's not much in this box.
0:53 We've got a sheet.
0:54 It tells us that we've got a power port, an exhaust port.
0:56 Well, so there's just like this puck
0:57 that we'll see pretty soon here,
0:59 and that's your dock.
1:00 And then there's a dongle that pairs on the device itself,
1:02 and then it transmits that to the screen.
1:05 So there's gotta be a receiver built into the screen,
1:07 I think, somewhere.
1:08 The way this works is it's using 5G millimeter wave,
1:11 which is basically the higher end of what 5G can do.
1:14 And it's got crazy range, and it's just like zero latency.
1:19 But it suffers from one huge issue, and that's interference.
1:23 If you've got a line of sight, it's awesome.
1:26 Like, it actually works really, really well.
1:28 But as soon as you put anything heavy,
1:30 honestly, if you just put a second display
1:32 in between this and the other transmitter,
1:34 it's probably gonna cut out.
1:36 You might not get a full loss of transmission,
1:38 but you will see like a chop here and there
1:40 where it has to kind of catch up.
1:41 So yeah, just make sure that even if you're at range,
1:44 don't get a bunch of stuff in between you
1:46 and the receiver and the display,
1:47 or it's not gonna work very well.
1:49 Charging brick, because you always need more of these.
1:53 So we've got USB-C to A.
1:54 This is probably for charging.
1:55 That goes with our power brick.
1:57 And then we've also got another USB-C cable.
2:00 And then this is HDMI mini,
2:01 to HDMI, I'm guessing.
2:04 And then here's the puck.
2:05 Here's the transmitter.
2:06 5G can operate between like 24 and 100 gigahertz
2:10 in the frequency spectrums,
2:12 but this has got a little 60G stamp on it.
2:15 So I'm pretty sure it's operating at about 60 gigahertz.
2:17 Let's get this wicked peel.
2:21 Oh, I mean, that's the display.
2:23 It's got a really handy kickstand on the back, actually.
2:26 This is super stiff.
2:27 I am a little worried that over time,
2:30 like from using it a whole ton, it's gonna loosen up
2:33 and it's not gonna be as good, but it's not bad.
2:36 Like it works pretty good.
2:36 And I think there's rubber feet.
2:38 Yeah, there's a little bit of rubber on the bottom too.
2:40 You can see where they've got the battery.
2:41 I would be willing to bet that it's right along here.
2:43 It's the thickest point,
2:45 but they've done a really good job
2:46 of kind of incorporating everything.
2:48 So it's also got the IO.
2:50 We've got a headphone jack and then what looks like USB-C.
2:54 Oh, it tells me right here, OTG.
2:58 What does OTG mean?
2:59 I honestly don't know.
3:00 And then what's this button do?
3:03 Switch.
3:04 Oh, is that for like a menu?
3:05 Is it USB on the go?
3:07 I don't know.
3:08 On the go, maybe.
3:10 The other side also has a few imports.
3:12 There's a power, then there's a type C connector,
3:15 and then there's our HD.
3:17 So our really small HDMI.
3:19 So I guess if you wanted to,
3:21 you could just hook this up to whatever.
3:23 Say you don't care about the wireless feature
3:26 and you just want a small screen
3:28 because your Switch is a little too small,
3:30 but you want something that's still kind of portable.
3:32 You can totally just plug it right into this guy.
3:34 So this is probably the receiver on the back here.
3:37 So you just, whenever, wherever you set this up,
3:39 just try to make sure that you've got a nice direct line
3:41 of sight from this guy to this guy.
3:43 So there's not much else to do
3:44 except turn this thing on and game on it.
3:45 But first, a word from our sponsor, Zoho CRM.

4:26 at the link in the video description below.
4:28 It took a little bit of kerjiggering
4:29 to kind of figure this thing out.
4:31 It's not that complicated though.
4:32 Basically, it does need power for most things.
4:36 One of the cool features it has
4:37 is it'll actually use your phone's battery
4:39 to power the receiver.
4:41 I don't think the switch will let it do that though,
4:43 so we've got it hooked up to a power source.
4:45 And then from the USB-C side of things,
4:48 we're gonna go to our switch
4:49 because that docks via USB-C.
4:53 Display, how do I turn you on?
4:55 There's this OSD switch on the side here,
4:58 and sometimes it likes to work real good,
5:00 oh, there it goes, cool.
5:04 Hey, cool.
5:06 Oh, one thing to note is that like when it's flat,
5:09 it is still working with the receiver.
5:11 Oh, no signal.
5:14 I didn't turn the switch off.
5:16 Oh, I think it's trying, please.
5:19 There we go.
5:20 Hey, all right, all right.
5:23 So yeah, I mean, there you have it.
5:24 Boom, look at this.
5:25 Nothing, nothing.
5:27 No wires going to that at all.
5:29 Boom, fully wireless experience.
5:31 And it looks really good though.
5:32 And there's like zero input lag.
5:35 Like the only kind of latency I'm really feeling
5:40 is kind of the switch itself.
5:41 This runs, I'm pretty sure Dread runs around like 30 FPS.
5:44 Oh yeah, see, as soon as I like go to hide the receiver,
5:48 it starts to have issues.
5:49 So you've got to tilt it up like this.
5:52 Yeah, it's mad at me already.
5:53 If we had this not aimed at the camera
5:57 and we had like more of a line of sight like this,
5:59 I bet you it'd work great.
6:01 We'll show you a better example in a little bit.
6:03 Ultra.
6:04 Ultra HDR.
6:05 What the hell?
6:06 This thing is ultra HDR?
6:07 Oh right, it's a touch screen.
6:09 I keep forgetting that.
6:10 Wait, is it though?
6:11 What?
6:12 Yeah, okay, that's working.
6:14 Oh, it has some trouble.
6:15 It doesn't.
6:15 Oh, okay.
6:16 So HDR actually does make a huge difference.
6:20 Does that look, that looks worse.
6:22 That's way too blown out.
6:23 Auto is probably your best bet.
6:25 You can turn a crosshair on, battery info, sharpness in it.
6:31 Yeah, that's just fine.
6:33 But you can change a bunch of color like RGB pickers and stuff
6:36 which is actually pretty impressive
6:37 for something like this.
6:38 So Andy just had me turn down the audio
6:40 because guess what?
6:41 It's got speakers.
6:43 That's right.
6:44 Which is actually a pretty nice feature
6:45 on a display like this because I mean,
6:47 if I'm using something like this,
6:49 chances are you could be using this in the bathtub, frankly.
6:53 Like, oh man, that's actually sick.
6:56 I kind of wish I could go take a bath and just like play.
6:58 Like I don't want to bring a switch into a bathtub.
7:00 Like that's just a terrible idea.
7:02 But hear me out.
7:03 You have the screen like somewhere else.
7:06 That you can still see, obviously.
7:08 And then you have your switch somewhere else.
7:11 And then you just got the controllers.
7:12 If you drop the controllers in the bathtub, who cares?
7:15 That's fine.
7:16 I mean, sure, maybe you have to buy a new controller
7:18 but that's not the end of the world.
7:21 It's a wireless display.
7:22 By whom?
7:24 Ava.
7:25 Ava?
7:26 It has an exhaust port?
7:27 Yeah.
7:28 What do you plug into the exhaust port?
7:30 Exhaust.
7:31 Look at, what's this?
7:32 It's my laptop.
7:33 Is it trying?
7:34 We're setting up multi-touch.
7:36 Oh my God.
7:37 Look, it's doing something.
7:39 Hey.
7:41 Wow.
7:42 Whoa.
7:43 Look at that.
7:44 Hold on, hold on, hold on.
7:45 I have six Teams notifications.
7:47 Busy boy.
7:49 Yeah, it's connected to my laptop just fine.
7:51 Oh, it's having trouble.
7:52 So basically the receiver is on the back here
7:55 and the transmitter's right there.
7:56 So the problem is we're trying to show the camera
7:58 but then we put the receiver flat on the table
8:02 and then it loses signal.
8:03 That's not because of the device.
8:05 It's actually pretty good.
8:06 As soon as it's actually on the line of sight, it's great.
8:08 I mean, I'm trying to think about like the justification
8:12 because you think about the size of that thing.
8:14 It's in a sort of tablet-y form factor.
8:17 So there's, I could see how someone would think like a-
8:21 No, I don't want to make it flat.
8:24 They could sit there flat.
8:25 It could sit there flat, right?
8:26 Yeah.
8:27 And then it doesn't work.
8:29 It's a little finicky when you start losing connection.
8:31 When you fully lose connection.
8:33 Yeah, but this thing's like, oh, no connection, so.
8:36 If you just get in the way. Oh, maybe that's fine.
8:37 A little bit, it'll chop a little bit.
8:40 But if you full-on break the connection,
8:42 you have to like reconnect everything, which is fine.
8:46 It's not the end of the world.
8:47 How does this computer work?
8:49 I don't know, Windows is hard.
8:50 Critiquing this all day.
8:52 Oh yeah.
8:54 Yeah, I can.
8:54 Oh, whoa.
8:55 So that's super cool.
8:56 The touch like totally, you close the laptop.
8:59 But it's going out of a-
9:01 It's probably set to shut off when it's closed.
9:04 Why?
9:05 It's only on this laptop.
9:06 Oh, much better.
9:07 Here we go.
9:08 Oh my God, Andy.
9:09 And the question is, Andy's such a great guy.
9:12 Will the touchscreen work?
9:13 Cause I used an Espresso display,
9:15 which had touchscreen functionality.
9:17 Is that what LED stands for?
9:19 Liquid Espresso display?
9:21 Yeah, actually.
9:22 Wow.
9:23 Andy, why is this not going in this plug?
9:25 Is this plug broken?
9:26 Nope.
9:27 Wow, you're just-
9:28 Oh no, it's just a stiff cable.
9:30 All right, boom.
9:31 Software update.
9:32 Let's do the software update on Monterey.
9:33 Hey, why isn't that working?
9:34 No, I don't think that's gonna.
9:36 No, it doesn't work.
9:37 With Windows, it worked.
9:38 That's fine.
9:38 So maybe that's a big thing,
9:40 is if you're an Apple user
9:41 and you wanna use the touchscreen,
9:44 maybe don't get this.
9:45 Okay, so this thing's like,
9:46 I wanna watch a movie off my computer
9:49 and I don't have any apps or a tablet
9:53 to use Plex or something.
9:55 Well, sure, but I wouldn't use this for watching movies.
9:58 I would use this for portable gaming, kind of.
10:01 Say I want to play on my computer,
10:04 but I wanna do it from my couch
10:06 and I don't have a TV
10:07 or I don't wanna plug in
10:08 my TV,
10:09 because then I've got this weird cable running
10:10 all the way from my TV to my PC
10:12 and I'd much rather just have a little dongle
10:14 sticking out somewhere on my desk.
10:16 Right.
10:17 Okay.
10:17 I'm gonna play a song.
10:18 I'm gonna just try playing a song to the speakers.
10:20 Okay, ready?
10:21 Yeah, switch it back.
10:25 Oh yeah, that's so good.
10:27 No, it's not.
10:28 It's really bad.
10:28 But you know what?
10:29 Like it's a thin screen.
10:30 They're really hard to get good speakers out of.
10:32 Well, I'm done.
10:33 I have no more thoughts anyways.
10:34 Yeah, that's cool.
10:35 Okay.
10:36 See you later.
10:37 Goodbye.
10:41 Oh, you power that thing.
10:44 Oh yeah, it's totally working.
10:46 I mean, it's trying now, but there it is.
10:48 Yeah.
10:49 Boom.
10:50 Yay!
10:51 All right, now we wanna check out the range.
10:53 So any of you who watched the Peak Dew video,
10:55 you might remember that this is basically
10:57 where we tested that stuff too.
10:58 And it's hooked up to Andy's camera right now.
11:00 And I'm like watching myself on the screen
11:02 and it's a little weird,
11:04 but I'm just gonna keep going back.
11:06 And I'm actually, I know that this has crazy good range.
11:12 It's fine.
11:13 We're totally past 20 feet now.
11:15 It's still good.
11:19 Yeah, this thing's okay.
11:20 But here I'm gonna go behind the wall.
11:22 Oh, it stopped.
11:25 Oh, it's having trouble kicking back on.
11:26 Sometimes you gotta unplug it, plug it back in.
11:28 Oh, there it goes.
11:32 Yeah, cool.
11:32 There I am.
11:33 Neat.
11:36 It stops working as soon as I change the receiver direction
11:39 and point it that way, but it works pretty good
11:43 because it's up such a high frequency.
11:45 It's basically not going to get interrupted
11:47 by a whole bunch of stuff.
11:48 It takes a lot of juice though.
11:50 Like that thing is getting hot and this isn't too bad,
11:53 but it's just the battery.
11:54 That's why it has all those vents on the back,
11:57 like on the bottom.
11:58 So if you're gonna get one of these,
12:00 don't tuck it away somewhere,
12:01 both because of the line of sight
12:03 and because it's just gonna get crazy warm.
12:05 Like not, probably not gonna start a fire,
12:08 but it's not something you wanna toy with really.
12:10 For the 13 inch one that we've got,
12:12 it's 1080p and it's like $590.
12:15 So just shy of 600 bucks for a 13 inch screen.
12:19 It is 1080p.
12:20 1080p 60 at least.
12:22 If you wanna go higher than that,
12:23 you can get 4K on the 17 inch screen,
12:26 but it's gonna cost you even more.
12:29 It's gonna cost you like $1,000 to get that.
12:31 So I really don't see this being for people
12:33 who wanna play games too much,
12:35 unless they're traveling constantly
12:36 and they need some kind of portable display.
12:38 Otherwise the main place I see it being used
12:41 is like in camera dens.
12:42 Like right now, this is great having
12:44 like a little portable monitor like this.
12:45 If we were filming outside or something,
12:47 we could have this set up and just put our monitor, like,
12:50 in a little table somewhere.
12:51 And that way we can actually watch ourselves
12:53 and make sure that we're getting the shot that we need.
12:56 Especially if you're by yourself.
12:57 If you're by yourself and you've got to set up on a tripod
13:00 and then just like walk away,
13:01 having this with you so that you can look at yourself
13:04 and make sure the shot looks good, super handy.
13:06 I see that being a much more like value oriented
13:10 kind of position.
13:11 Whereas for gaming, I don't know.
13:13 I don't think it's really worth it.
13:14 But to each their own.
13:15 If you have a use case and you really want one of these,
13:17 I mean, hey, it's a pretty cool product nonetheless.
13:19 And maybe in the future, the price will drop
13:22 and we can see a lot more wireless displays coming
13:24 for pretty much every use case.
13:26 Maybe even high refresh rate gaming monitors.
13:28 You never know.
13:29 Thanks for watching.
13:29 This is the Inlead AVA wireless display.
13:32 4K or 1080p, depending on which model you get.
13:35 And yeah, if you want to check out
13:37 any other monitor short circuits, feel free.
13:39 There's a whole bunch.
13:40 We just did the ViewSonic Mini LED.
13:42 That was great.
13:43 Fun monitor.
13:44 Looks a lot nicer than this.
