0:00 oh do we ever have a spectacle for you guys today right here in my hands
0:06 is a tiny computer
0:10 and i do not mean this laptop we have actually jammed the entire tiny computer
0:16 inside the laptop in its hard drive bay check this out
0:22 check this out this is crazy
0:26 that my friends is an entire computer
0:30 it's not gonna light your world on fire or play the latest games at the highest
0:35 frame rates but it will run Windows
0:39 so uh let's try that shall we
0:53 ltx for hosting the ltx 2018 live event
0:56 on july 14th it's an interactive meetup tech out and pc gaming
1:02 extravaganza get your ticket today at the link below
1:06 so zotac is no stranger to the mini pc game in fact
1:11 they've got it all over their packaging the original mini pc we made the
1:16 original we made the original mini okay okay okay
1:20 but even they have never done anything this
1:24 small so this thing is not much bigger than a
1:28 credit card i mean obviously it's thicker but it is not much larger than a
1:34 credit card so inside this device you will find an
1:39 Intel celeron n3350 processor
1:42 four gigs of RAM uh that is ddr3 memory
1:46 so low power ddr3 memory you'll find 32
1:50 gigs of storage and surprisingly
1:53 actually more expandability than
1:57 some modern flagship smartphones like the iphone
2:00 so you get your power button here as well as an indicator led you've got uh
2:06 your dc 5 volt 3 amp input it's kind of
2:09 a bummer that that's a usb micro beat it's not the most durable connector
2:14 you've got a micro sd slot so that means
2:17 that the 32 gigs of emmc storage that are already soldered on can be expanded
2:23 Windows will just see that as a normal drive some tablets already do this like
2:26 microsoft's own surface lineup for example and then over here you've got
2:30 two usbcs that also serve as displayport
2:35 outputs and it even includes some dongles so this is one of those situations where because what you're
2:40 going to be able to do with it depends on the dongles that you've got for it uh
2:44 an unboxing actually kind of makes sense so we've got one of those same power to
2:48 i swear i've seen this before this is the same one that comes with
2:52 the drop cam uh we've got a power cord
2:56 we've got a little mount so you can throw this on the back of a monitor or
3:00 something like that i guess you just put like one screw through the base of thing
3:05 not the most amazing mount i've ever seen then you've got a few different prong options for the
3:10 power thing here oh wow so you actually just
3:14 fold that in and then do that oh that is a
3:17 weird international adapter let's fire it up shall we
3:21 all right so let's plug this in plug that in
3:25 plug that baby in
3:29 man it is amazing how tiny this thing is
3:32 also fun fact the cooling is all taken care of by the
3:38 ribbed metal chassis this thing is completely fanless and it's not even
3:43 heavy like it's it's about the same weight as the SSD that we used for our
3:48 size comparison a few minutes ago
3:52 it's madness so with this single dongle that they
3:55 include we actually get an HDMI output and we get two usb 3 ports so that'll be
4:02 everything that we need to run this thing
4:05 that's it that's the whole computer you know that
4:09 you've reached full dongle when your dongle
4:13 is the size of the computer
4:16 this is so crazy like this is a computer wow it's getting warm
4:22 already whoa interesting
4:26 so i mean first order of business is obviously cinebench right
4:31 oh man i don't know if you want to do that no
4:34 how long does it take 30 minutes
4:41 okay maybe i'll just take alex's word for it what's our score well do you want
4:46 to guess sure wow it is a dual core
4:50 without hyper threading clocked at a whopping
4:54 1.1 gigahertz i'm gonna guess
4:58 20. 45. 45. okay
5:01 hey not bad oh yeah here it is you've already got the uh the score cash from
5:05 last time so that is less than one tenth the speed of a five
5:12 generation old mobile processor
5:16 realistically something like this is intended more for
5:20 digital signage applications or like the
5:23 pos terminal in the local clothing store or whatever the case may
5:27 be it's designed to be seen not heard and just perform basic functionalities
5:32 so could it do something like play an hd youtube video because
5:37 for better or for worse Intel has baked gpus onto the vast majority of their
5:42 consumer cpus and that's annoying for those of us who
5:46 just want more CPU performance and wish they'd use more die area for that but
5:50 it's good for people who want to buy very low end stuff and rely on the GPU
5:55 to accelerate applicable tasks so let's go ahead and ooh even
5:59 scrolling's a little rough got that got that delay
6:05 all right so let's look up a really cool channel like Linus tech tips
6:08 does this thing support 4k output oh boy so yes we are running at 4k right
6:13 now but only at up to 30 hertz so this is HDMI
6:18 1.4 not HDMI 2.0 meaning that you're stuck
6:22 with a couple of 1920x1080 displays
6:26 running at 60 hertz or a single 4k running at 30hz oh wow the ncix
6:30 bankruptcy auction is still the channel trailer so this is interesting
6:35 it's not a great experience because even like full screening and then going back
6:40 to windowed mode on the video is pretty choppy oh and we saw we saw a
6:45 hiccup there but
6:48 youtube actually defaulted to 4k
6:52 playback for us here and other than the fact that the audio
6:56 is not coming through which could be any number of things i'm not going to blame it on this
7:00 this is actually playing back pretty well
7:04 i bet it's running warm though oh it is
7:08 oh that's toasty it's working hard
7:11 oh so the CPU's not struggling as much
7:15 when we're full screened but it has a harder time when we're
7:18 running in the browser now
7:23 zotac is known for a couple of things one of them is mini pcs
7:28 but one of them is overclocking so i wouldn't put it
7:33 past them to put some overclocking capabilities
7:38 into their BIOS turbo mode hey
7:42 oh cool uh okay
7:47 should we enable power limit one
7:50 no right let's disable the power limit
7:56 here we go all right we're firing up task manager let's see if we get uh
8:01 so whoa
8:05 this thing's running at 2.3 gigahertz
8:08 now i'm sure we have no way of guaranteeing
8:12 that it's not going to uh you know overheat without some additional cooling
8:17 and to be clear it's still not super powerful microsoft account background
8:21 task was consuming 40 of the CPU there
8:25 but maybe this will give us
8:30 a little bit more headroom for our youtube experience here
8:35 oh
8:39 did it just shut down it just oh yeah it shut down hard
8:46 i bet we need a more powerful wall wart oh it's really hot you know if you need
8:50 additional cooling though i bet you could just hold the thing like this it's
8:54 like water cooling it with your blood you know
8:57 cause it'll take the heat away and then your body will dissipate it as sweat
9:03 so i found this huawei supercharge adapter down in the warehouse it claims
9:08 to be 4.5 volts 5 amps
9:12 plus 5 amps whatever that means but it's heavy
9:18 well it's definitely not completely broken so that's good okay do you want
9:22 to water cool it for me yeah like just hold your hand on it
9:27 uh oh yeah i guess we could put a fan on it wait did it just shut down again
9:32 oh the led is red well
9:35 this is one of the risks
9:38 of overclocking you don't usually break your hardware
9:43 but you do occasionally corrupt your os i can feel it heating up right now as it
9:48 tries to load Windows
9:52 the light just went red
9:55 damn it all right fine we can disable or enable
9:59 the power safety thing
10:02 all all right all right all right all right but i'm leaving on turbo mode
10:10 num lock's not doing anything so the other thing i don't know is if this
10:14 thing being rated for four and a half volts is affecting it in
10:18 some way it was worth a shot if i had one of the old one plus dash chargers
10:35 not scripted legitimately didn't realize that was there
10:42 okay we're booted off the dash charger and we still have
10:47 the uh turbo mode enabled
10:52 1.88 one oh
10:55 oh can we settle for our 100 overclock alex
11:00 yeah we can settle for that even if microsoft account background
11:04 crap is still 40 CPU utilization
11:10 all right all right let's wait for that to settle down and then we'll go ahead and try out
11:14 youtube again task manager is pulling 26
11:18 of the CPU interesting
11:22 so you know what i bet's going on here is there's only so much power for both
11:26 the CPU and GPU and if we let the CPU turbo up
11:31 there's not enough left to playback 4k video which would
11:35 obviously be a priority for a device like this
11:39 although yeah it does look like it's fine now doesn't it
11:42 so if we want to run a game we're probably better off
11:46 turning off that setting aren't we
11:50 okay let's unoverclock
11:53 and play some worms shall we i still remember playing worms 3d
11:58 on like my buddies like pentium 2.
12:02 so if this can't handle it i'm going to be pretty disappointed
12:06 that's a logo i've not enjoyed on my screen in a while
12:10 okay that's uh that is some pretty broken stuff right there
12:15 and none of my hotkeys work oh that one works task manager will not come up
12:19 though um
12:25 all right so maybe this will let us at least get
12:28 to the menus okay that's different here we go start a
12:33 quick game it's only 720p but hey that's running
12:37 pretty well oh it's still not actually perfect 60
12:42 FPS how are you supposed to even control this this is stupid
12:48 the right spot oh
12:53 okay and i think we're done here
12:57 anyone who thought that the mouse arrow changing its direction depending on
13:01 which direction you were moving was a good idea i'm glad that those people are
13:05 all out of game development now because that's awful okay so clearly some of the
13:09 stuff we did today was not how the
13:13 mini pc zbox pi 225 was intended to be used it's for
13:20 industrial applications digital signage
13:23 that kind of thing and honestly for that it's just fine if this was a
13:27 review i guess that would be the conclusion it's not a gaming box
13:32 and if you were expecting it to be then you were unreasonable like me
13:36 but it would have been pretty cool if we could have overclocked it
13:41 you know what else would be cool telling you guys about oh squarespace
