now this is the second mushkin Jewel power supply that I've had a look at in
0:04
the last little while now mushkin is really coming on strong releasing new
0:11
power supplies they really want to get back into this so let's see what their
0:16
1,000 WT offering is going to look like
0:21
so okay first of all we've got the front of the box which is standard uh looks
0:25
like they've got they've only changed one thing or two things on the front of
0:28
the box versus the front of the Box on the 700 watt this number is different it
0:33
is 1,000 instead of 700 and right here is an 80 plus gold badge versus the 80
0:39
plus bronze that we saw in the 700 watt let's have a look at the overall specs
0:43
for this unit so you can see that it is capable of providing up to 9912 Watts on
0:48
the four 12vt rails combined and up to
0:51
975 watt so that's a okay right so our
0:55
other 25 watts are on the- 12 volt as well as the plus 5 volt uh plus 5 vssb
1:00
rails okay so most of the wattage of the
1:04
power supply can be provided from the 12 w from the 12vt rails but not close to
1:09
all of it like some of the other units we've seen over the last little
1:13
while let's flip this guy over and have a look at what it's got to say for
1:17
itself on the back so uh they claim a 100,000 hour meantime between failure
1:21
for this one with even an even higher rating for the thermally controlled
1:25
nanotech bearing fan we've got a plus gold certification with efficiency up to
1:29
to 90% okay energy star 4 combo cables with
1:34
SATA and peripheral connectors okay we'll have a look at the connectors in a
1:38
minute so here's the electrical safeguards we've got over current protection over voltage protection under
1:42
voltage protection ShortCircuit protection over Power Protection and
1:46
underload protection comes with a 2-year
1:50
warranty so let's go ahead and going unzoom my camera here and let's get this
1:55
package opened up and let's have a look at the Dual 1,000 watt
2:01
so it's got a pretty basic overall packaging thing going on here just a
2:06
simple paper sleeve over a plain black box but let's see what's inside cuz
2:12
that's what really counts okay so we have an owner's manual for mushkin enhanced Volta and dual series power
2:17
supplies uh okay there's some pretty basic stuff there all right we've got a
2:22
power cable included nice thick
2:25
one some velcro cable ties uh looks like
2:29
we got four of those included maybe five
2:32
five yeah five of those included we've got some screws as well as a couple of
2:37
uh plastic zip ties and then we're down to the power
2:42
supply itself so not a whole lot in terms of packaging or accessories in
2:46
here but ultimately if you're anything like me you
2:50
usually don't worry too much about the packaging accessories and you are more
2:55
concerned about the power supply itself
2:58
so this is not a modular unit something to be aware of uh unlike the duel 700
3:05
watt this is a cables connected power
3:08
supply so let's look at the actual PSU
3:12
itself and then we'll have a closer look at the cables so it's got a plain black
3:16
finish on the sides the top as well as
3:20
on the other side where we find a mushkin sticker that outlines the
3:23
overall specs of the unit for us once more the front is plain because all of
3:28
the cables are pre attached to this PSU and it is not modular as I mentioned
3:33
before there's your nanotech fan and on
3:36
the back we find what we've come to expect from mushkin power supplies and
3:39
that is a cross-hatch style back and it looks like it's going to be very very
3:43
free flowing so you shouldn't have any restriction as far as the air flow goes
3:48
on the back here we've got a power switch as well as a power in all right
3:54
let's see what we got for cables here now I do prefer modular power supplies
3:59
but modular interfaces do introduce a little bit of extra resistance so it's
4:03
possible that to achieve that 80 plus gold certification the uh mushin opted
4:08
to go with a fully attached cable design
4:12
to make sure that they get that extra efficiency boost here so we've got a 24
4:17
pin power connector it's a nice long cable on that
4:21
as well we've got okay what's this one yeah here we go
4:26
we have an eight pin that is a uh straight8 pin so it's not a 4 plus4 you
4:32
can't slide it apart but that's an 8 Pin EPS connector okay I'm going to assume
4:37
there's another one of those somewhere yeah here's one okay so we have another
4:41
one of those so you can plug this power supply into motherboards that like 28
4:46
pin connectors like the EVGA classified or the MSI Big Bang X power all right in
4:52
terms of PCI Express connectors we've
4:55
got uh two 6 plus two pins
5:00
and two oh wait hold on ah okay so we
5:03
have yeah we have four 6 plus two pins so there's two here and you can just
5:07
slide these together to make either a six pin or an eight pin and then there's
5:12
two connected to a separate cable which
5:16
has escaped from me okay two more oh whoops sorry there's one more that had
5:21
fallen down there so I couldn't see it we actually have a total of six 6 plus
5:26
two pin connectors so this power supply is ready for three-way SLI or three-way
5:32
Crossfire with cards requiring 6 and six
5:35
6 and 8 or 8 and8 PCI Express power
5:39
connectors so there's all of our EPS PCIe all right let's see what we've got
5:44
for peripheral connectors here uh let's take one of these and see
5:49
what it is so this guy is for SATA right there the next one is four
5:56
SATA so that's up to eight SATA so far
6:00
next we've got uh four more SATA so that's up to 12
6:06
SATA connections and finally we've got four Molex connectors with a floppy
6:13
connector as well just in case you still have something that requires one of
6:18
those so that is the overall unboxing
6:21
and first look at the jeel 1,000 W power
