0:01 is that okay we're live actually now I was like we're going live now and then
0:06 Nick was like got prepared to actually be live and then I was like uh uh uh not
0:11 not quite yet anyways welcome to the show uh I will be hosting as sick today
0:17 and Nick will be hosting as tired today so we're sick and
0:22 tired yes
0:25 accomplished joke goal made anyways we have some great topics uh if I can
0:29 scroll back up that would be awesome ryzen 5 News specs all that fun stuff is
0:35 coming that'll be good very good pricing good minimum specs good other people
0:39 here sick anyways Microsoft actively blocking Windows 7 8 8.1 updates on kbl
0:46 lake and ryzen systems can you stop also V uh vulcan's
0:52 multi-GPU muscle now requires Windows 10
0:55 as well just in case you didn't like
0:58 Windows 10 they're going to try to make you like Windows 10 and uh hopefully
1:04 people like me will be actively very
1:07 intensely looking into how they can switch their whole platform into a basis
1:12 on Linux because I'm trying to bail that
1:15 will maybe be a bigger trying bail Windows I'm trying to bail on Windows
1:19 I'm trying real hard to bail on Windows I'm trying to figure out how I can do
1:22 like over like over motherboard instead
1:26 of over network streaming of like games and stuff so I can play most my games
1:31 natively in Linux but streamed from a Windows VM and like games that aren't on
1:37 Steam because steam is the only one that's going to handle any of this well
1:40 I'll have to just like run through a VM but I'm sort of maybe want to use unraid
1:45 but unraid might not even be the best solution for but yeah but I want the
1:49 only thing I ever do on Windows to be launching and playing games that's it
1:54 nothing else so essentially macOS for
1:58 life raw the
2:09 intro
2:23 what freshbook we don't have music we have my
2:28 voice and we also have Squarespace
2:33 no guess we're backom is correct so that's good um
2:38 let's start with ryzen 5 so there was actually a
2:45 leak slightly before uh yeah quote unquote leak
2:51 slightly before this whole thing was
2:55 like officially announced there was a leak I will show you guys I have to
2:58 click on Linus's screen screen which is weird cuz it's not his screen PC Master
3:02 race subreddit there was a I believe this is Guru 3D article let me scroll in
3:08 there yeah um talking about ryzen 5 but
3:12 this isn't super important anymore because whatever dude let me go back to
3:16 No guest we have actual
3:20 announcements so if we go to AMD.com and go to their press release page that's
3:25 even more fun there we go you can see the whole
3:30 chart for it ryzen 5 you've got the 1600x the 1600 the 1500 X and the,
3:39 1400 the lineup here is actually pretty sick six cores 12 threads I believe it's
3:45 like about half the price as the previous one maybe give or take a little
3:50 bit I don't remember exactly how much the previous one is at 200 this one's at
3:54 $250 six cores 12 threads 3.6 GHz base
3:58 clock 4 GHz boost clock for 250 bucks is
4:02 actually pretty wicked kind of nuts I've been interested in the ryzen 5 lineup
4:06 the whole time because looking at the stuff that we already have um the 1080p
4:11 performance was not as great as other things and I think with the processors
4:16 that we already have it doesn't really matter that much yeah CU if you're
4:19 buying that tier of Hardware you're probably not gaming at 1080p you're
4:24 probably shooting for high or gaming isn't the only thing that you're doing
4:27 that too yeah so either either you're not that worried about it and you're
4:30 running workloads that are more related to things like cine bench where it's
4:34 going to be using all them cores and you're just going to rock out anyways or
4:39 you're shooting above 1080p so the performance numbers at higher resolution
4:42 was really what you're looking at and then you're in great shape with the ryzen 5 stuff it's going to be more
4:47 interesting again uh it's me so I'm not
4:51 going to really care too much until we get on a bench here and try it ourselves
4:54 but now the 1080p performance is going to really come out strong but the fact
4:58 that you can get a four core 8 thread processor at 3.2 GHz base and 3.4 GHz
5:04 boost for $169 is pretty wicked or you can bump
5:11 that up by a little bit get 3.7 GHz on
5:14 the Boost clock for $189 that's only $20
5:17 more it's a pretty tight product stack this is actually really interesting cuz
5:21 like when ryzen 7 was announced I saw
5:25 the pricing and I was like wow if their top end lineup has a chip at 329 like
5:32 are they going to price themselves out of the lower end entire like how are
5:35 they going to do that and it just it I think their whole stack is just really
5:39 tight yeah really really minor increments you pay like 20 30 bucks more
5:43 and you get a better processor so then I guess that's you know that's kind of
5:48 awesome actually because then price of performance actually becomes a conversation again yes instead of like
5:53 okay here's where it slots into the price stack so here's exactly where it's
5:56 slotting into the performance stack and we can pretty much estimate where everything's is going to be before we
6:00 even have it like which is so boring just just so like I like especially from
6:05 the reviewer side of things that is incredibly boring when you know you have
6:08 a shipment coming in and you know exactly what it is and you're like K
6:12 well I know the conclusion of this video already this FPS and this game because
6:16 it's priced at that yeah it's pretty lame it's pretty boring but it's going
6:20 to be nice to actually have the conversation of like hey if you have
6:24 $169 to get a400 if you get 100 you know is it $169
6:30 yeah um is it worth saving that extra 20 bucks and getting
6:34 a500x that's a conversation now that is a really and like one thing that I'm
6:38 excited for is not just like build
6:41 guides but like recommended builds are going to be way more interesting now
6:46 because instead of like oh well you have that budget I guess just buy this stuff
6:51 cuz you know cookie cutter builds or what everything is right now we'll have
6:55 a way wider range of things that you can do with your build you can specify more
7:00 specifics like wow great specify your
7:03 specifics for specificity but like if you're sticking only at 1080p for like
7:08 only certain games that aren't taking advantage of multicore then you go with
7:12 one thing if you're if you're going to stay at 1080p but you're not gaming
7:16 you're doing workstation stuff then you want something else entirely and it's
7:20 just I don't know it's actually really cool so very exciting time and build
7:24 suggestions will include things like
7:27 monitors which is cool cool I don't know
7:31 I like that I like how uh on the press
7:34 release there's cautionary statement and it's like super long okay let me let me
7:39 scroll down where is this wow what the heck is it the longest
7:45 section that they have yeah this press release contains forward-looking statements concerning Advanced Micro
7:49 Devices Inc informational purposes only and may the features functionality
7:52 available timing ex benefits it's like
7:56 literally half the freaking page yep
8:00 but almost not not quite but that's the society we live in man please don't sue
8:05 us for things we'd really like it if you didn't we're just trying to say cool
8:09 stuff about the processors we're just trying to give you guys cool processors
8:14 please did you hear okay this is slightly a bit of an aside but uh I
8:19 don't think you guys necessarily saw this because this one wasn't streamed
8:23 but I did a question and answers thing with Intel at Pax E and A guy came on
8:27 stage with a ryzen hat nice that was that was epic that was fun I
8:32 was I was very happy everyone at Intel was cool with it which I thought was
8:36 cool an Intel person like helped him escorted him on stage and everything
8:40 like they were all cool with it um we roasted him a little bit it was fun he
8:44 got the one like Intel specific question uh wrong which he defended with like
8:49 well it makes sense and I was like okay yeah that's fine um although you should
8:54 know about your the people that you don't like too to justify the things
8:58 that you do like but whatever don't worry about it it's cool blind fanboyism
9:01 is the way the world works also you know what's fun is
9:05 because that conversation happened right after Rison now there's going to be all the comments of like uh Intel just pays
9:10 them to talk about Intel whenever there's a ryzen
9:15 topic oh man I'm triggered yeah I'm
9:19 super happy I well okay I guess I should say super excited for ryzen 5 to come
9:23 out specifically just because of what we were just talking about that's that's
9:27 yes that is the line that it's going to start a new conversation well not a new
9:31 conversation but a conversation that we haven't been able to have for what like four years five years at a
9:37 minimum so like I don't know if you
9:41 remember this too much but the like 8350
9:45 versus what was it like I'm assuming 3500k but Intel
9:52 changes their product names all 3570 the like high-end I5 from that time I I
9:58 think so yeah yeah I can't I don't remember the exact pairing that the war
10:01 was but there was this giant freaking War back when we were in the garage I
10:06 think that Sandy Bridge no it was just after that I think it was 3,000 Ser
10:10 anyways that was super intense and like
10:14 it was fun being a reviewer cuz all the other reviewers are releasing like oh
10:19 man we tried this like different Benchmark and it came out this way and
10:23 this processor is way freaking better and we're like oh my goodness we need to
10:27 try this but like with our own types of
10:32 are represented in this onef set or like
10:35 maybe these guys are running a different version of Windows and this version of
10:39 Windows plays more nicely with this specific processor chipset or whatever
10:43 like man that was fun it's it's been
10:47 it's been a little boring not to
10:51 like yeah it just sort of has everything just it's been less exciting than it
10:56 could have been there we go yeah there's the proper PR answer but we're getting
11:00 there yeah so ryzen 5 will hopefully put us back into like that oh my God yeah
11:06 State and I'm I'm really excited for something we also haven't experienced
11:09 for a while you go on like pcrr pcmr subreddit and stuff and you see everyone
11:14 like oh ten came out to pictures of pulling the thing off yeah I bought a
11:18 really expensive piece of Hardware one thing that'll be nice about ryzen 5 is
11:22 uh like look I made this very price
11:26 performance optimized rig for exactly
11:29 what I want to do this totally makes sense for what I want to do and I'm
11:33 really proud of this system in general that's super cool that's like what I've
11:37 always really liked about computers it's always fun to have the like Halo product
11:41 Lamborghini effect everyone wants to look at the super sick processor or the
11:44 super sick graphics card that has always been a thing the first time I started
11:49 working here and lonus handed me to like I think it was
11:53 580s I was like holy crap there's always
11:57 that moment but still it's cool to see what people can like be proud of and
12:02 come up with in terms of different build decisions and stuff like that and for a
12:05 while it's been a little cookie cutter anyways moving on to a topic that
12:09 depresses me quite a bit uh Microsoft is
12:12 actively blocking Windows 7 8 and 8.1
12:15 updates on kbl lake and ryzen systems in
12:18 an effort to get you to upgrade to Windows 10 updates on Legacy versions of
12:23 Windows 78 and 8.1 are not supported on
12:27 new chips like Intel 7th eration or newer AMD Bristol Ridge or newer
12:32 including ryzen and Qualcomm
12:36 8996 or newer this is a post from RS
12:42 Technica and this just yeah it legitimately makes me really sad because
12:46 this is a very lame way to push people
12:52 forward and absolutely
12:57 unneeded yeah it's like there's there's some Fair statements in here using
13:01 Windows 7 on these latest systems is already awkward in many situations the
13:05 operating system has no built-in support for usb3 or NVMe while neither hurdle is
13:10 insurmountable at all that's a really important statement
13:15 within this article they're like very easy to overcome issues like not that
13:19 big of a deal installing Windows 7 at the very beginning can sometimes be a
13:23 little bit rough cuz those USB 3 drivers and stuff like that but almost every
13:27 board has at least two USB ports ports you can get going with your keyboard and
13:31 mouse you can get those usb3 drivers installed and everything's fine um
13:37 Counterpoint yeah maybe this is you know
13:42 the sign that soon will'll only have
13:45 usb3 drives or ports ports yeah yeah you
13:50 know yeah so maybe there's a positive to it Luke you don't have to be such a
13:54 pessimist all the time embrace your Microsoft overlords my
13:59 my motherboard has a PS2 them because
14:03 I'm that kind of guy yeah but that's cuz you're just like a weird hipster douche
14:10 sometimes I'll take that that's
14:15 okay we just released the analog
14:19 video there's no way I would be able to get away with
14:24 that oh man yeah it's a it's a thing
14:27 sometimes that's another thing noted in the RS article though is that installing
14:32 Windows 8.1 is a relatively smooth sailing experience um and with KB lak's
14:38 overwhelming similarity Sky Lake dropping support does feel rather
14:41 unnecessary I have very relent releasing I have very recently installed Windows
14:45 8.1 on a few different systems yeah zero
14:49 issues right no matter what tier of processor I was using and I used a
14:53 fairly wide range do you think um not
14:56 too crazy I didn't go way too far back but like still do you think there'll be
14:59 something like a Windows 9 that gets around this somehow or is this like no
15:04 because Windows 9 is Windows 9 is very
15:08 technically just Windows 8.1 okay with like some skin mods on it that make it
15:13 look like Windows 7 so the name should actually be like Windows 8.5 or
15:18 something if you want to call it or like Windows 7.5 or some there
15:24 yes sure I like it so anyway this is too
15:28 much of like a Baseline change to have someone be able to come in and hack it
15:32 out or whatever yeah I don't think that's really going to happen all right
15:36 uh not with not with Windows but if you did something like Linux you could make
15:39 your own fork and make it work yeah but then you have to actually do things yeah
15:44 I don't like doing things that's that's that's fair that's fair yeah I will
15:49 hopefully if I can get everything working to the degree that I want it to
15:53 which like to give some background for this I am very much not a fan of Windows
16:00 10 um I stream a fair amount and I've
16:04 been having a lot of issues using Windows 10 compared to using previous
16:08 versions of Windows so I and then like
16:12 all the Telemetry data steing all your stuff and like all the things that have
16:16 been happening around that lately I just don't want to deal with it anymore I
16:21 don't need everything in my entire life
16:24 to be Cloud connected all the time and I would rather just connect to services
16:27 when I need to connect to them it's it's really not that big of a deal for me to
16:31 not have Cortana constantly running and not really be able to be properly
16:35 disabled and having it reenable itself and all that kind of stuff yep super
16:39 annoying so I personally want to try moving to Linux but I still need my
16:43 Windows for certain things that just aren't going to run on window on Linux
16:47 very well um so I have a lot of work ahead of me I
16:53 want to use Synergy okay to make it so
16:56 that my mouse can go across systems
17:00 super super easily and one keyboard and mouse that I can never really tell that
17:04 I'm using two different systems and one monitor will just be Windows and one
17:08 monitor will be Linux and I want to be able to like transfer everything back
17:11 and forth and have everything work beautifully um but yeah that's that's a
17:15 long ways coming don't expect this video anytime soon might not even end up
17:19 making the video it's just going to be my personal setup I would like to but
17:22 that would probably involve hauling my rig to work so maybe not fun because amethyst
17:29 falling off and stuff would be bad that would not be good it's happened twice
17:35 amethysts have fallen that there's one update for my personal Rak amethysts
17:38 have fallen twice both times for when I moved the system the first time was
17:42 moving my system to my house the second time was moving my system from the desk
17:46 that it was at to a new desk so like
17:50 those are all just going to fall off within like the next few months I don't think I
17:56 don't think all of them the only ones that fell fell off didn't have very good
18:00 connections because I had to mount them to a thin rail like if this is the
18:04 amethyst Rock I had to mount them to a thin rail here yeah all the ones that
18:07 had a flat wall are sticking quite well to the point where I can like grab it
18:10 and kind of pull on it a little bit and it's staying there um but like the ones
18:14 that are above where like the heat sink are and stuff those are sketchy because
18:18 I mounted those on the fan bracket for if you wanted to install a radiator in
18:23 the top okay so if I can maybe find some
18:26 other way to mount them up there they'll be fine but yeah everything else has
18:30 been fine it's just the ones that are above like the CPU heat sink that have
18:33 been an issue uh moving on so this is Chrome 57
18:39 wanting to throttle background tabs to save energy do you want to do the Vulcan
18:44 thing or no the Vulcan thing did I miss something I did vulcan's multi-GPU
18:48 muscle so this kind of ties into the Windows 10 topic yes also requires
18:54 Windows 10 so Vulcan will only support multiple gpus in Windows 10 dropping
18:59 Windows 7 8 8.1 operating systems uh
19:02 Native multi-GPU support for NVIDIA GeForce SLI and AMD radon Crossfire
19:07 setups will now require wddm to be set
19:11 to linked display adapter mode something that is exclusive to Windows 10 so I
19:17 talked about this a little bit um I
19:20 didn't talk about the requirement for Windows 10 right but I talked about like
19:25 the different modes like uh LDA M or
19:29 link display adapter mode LDA all this other kind of stuff in the WTF is going
19:34 on with SLI video if you want to check that out I can't point in the corner cuz
19:38 this isn't going to be edited it's live show I I just got the like physical
19:43 reaction that I was like referencing a video and I need to go like this cuz
19:47 like just shoving your fingers up to the my left is like just what happens
19:51 whenever I reference a video um but yeah if you want to learn more about like
19:55 link display adapter modes and like all that other weird stuff that is happening
19:59 with weird and actually very cool stuff that's currently happening with uh
20:04 multiple graphics cards check out the WTF is going on with s live video and if
20:08 that intrigues you and you're like I want to Deep dive into more things check
20:11 out WTF is going on with dx12 and Vulcan
20:14 which is actually still a very valid video which I'm happy about even with
20:19 current information it's very valid there's some things that have been like refined slightly but not even that much
20:24 we're pretty much in the exact same spot we were at before game developers are
20:27 not building things from the ground up with Vulcan dx12 they're starting with
20:30 dx11 and then like converting things over and it's not being properly
20:34 optimized and none of it really matters yet but Luke you didn't test on Vulcan
20:38 in dx12 so obviously your methology is flawed I am so happy that that's done I
20:44 am so happy that people have stopped that that was freaking
20:48 nuts oh my God fun times oh my God you guys are
20:53 shills cuz you didn't use this thing that is
20:57 broken uh people are fun okay now actually
21:01 moving on to Chrome 57 Chrome 57 will throttle background tabs to save energy
21:06 after 10 seconds of being in the background um not in Focus I guess
21:11 because you could have a bunch of M uh monitors it will drop its uh performance
21:17 by a little bit H so like I wonder how
21:20 that's going to affect the performance of stuff like
21:24 YouTube music or like twitch streams where a lot of people
21:29 where you know any of those where a lot of people will be you know doing their
21:34 work on their main monitor or whatever and they'll have like music in a
21:37 different tab or a video playing in a different tab so uh 1% of CPU is still a
21:44 fair amount yeah I would be interested to see how this works for like lower-end
21:52 laptops and stuff like that
21:55 um but I don't know it's it's going to
21:58 be interesting one thing that I'm hoping is they they specifically wanted people
22:03 to start using service workers um
22:06 because service workers will be able to better manage this I'm just hoping that
22:12 it's a little bit intelligent sure like
22:18 if basically twitch streams is the biggest thing I'm worried about because
22:23 uh the the majority of people that I know that watch Twitch streams do not
22:26 have that twitch stream as their main
22:31 hazy probably Nick probably sending emails
22:35 oring on other various things uh just like doing other things at home yeah EXA
22:41 yeah maybe not even at your computer necessarily I I don't even watch that
22:45 much twitch streams but if I do I'm usually also playing a game yeah and
22:49 it's often like about the game I'm playing because I'm like hm I wonder if
22:52 other people are experiencing this thing I really like that about twitch I can
22:56 just be like hm I have a weird in this section let me go check out a few other
23:00 people playing the same game see if they're having the same thing um
23:04 everyone watches Twitch in their own way I'm sure there's people watching right
23:07 now that have this selected as their main window but like I also know there's
23:10 a huge percentage of people that don't do that um and on some devices that 1%
23:15 CPU limit thing might actually come into play there so I just to do like a live
23:20 test um I opened up Edge and just opened
23:24 up our stream on Source quality and it's the max it was at was 0.3% of CPU usage
23:30 but this is a blade yeah so like yeah
23:33 it's not going to use much CPU on this computer um if you're using like a Dell
23:39 from 2005 it might kind of screw you up a
23:43 little bit yeah that might hurt that might legitimately hurt it's it's going
23:46 to really depend device per device I don't think this is going to Warrant
23:50 like a video but I think it would be a really cool Forum thread if you guys
23:54 start once this is out if you guys start
23:57 discussing like the different effects on your usage and your computer I think
24:02 that could be pretty cool gun run says use the desktop app yeah actually hey
24:08 gun run I haven't done this yet but I'm really interested I think you get it
24:11 from downloads. twitch.com can you check that real quick just to make sure yeah I
24:16 guess I can too download or TV oh probably TV yeah
24:21 my bad no is that not it gun run will
24:27 probably post the problem one yeah just post the link in the chat gun run
24:31 whenever you have it um also the desktop app looks super cool though some people
24:35 are saying Firefox Master race um I
24:38 haven't used Firefox in months cuz the last time I did it was like the biggest
24:42 I was a major Fanboy didn't I loved Firefox and then it just stopped working
24:46 six months ago there app. twitch.tv/ twitch the Twitch app there you
24:53 go this is a public server anyway we
24:56 should do this later because we're show but um that could be something for sure
25:01 that would be cool because then Chrome isn't going to meter you uh I used to be
25:05 a giant Firefox Fanboy and I don't even use it anymore Firefox was great and
25:10 then it wasn't anymore like I don't know what else to say it just like stopped
25:14 working entirely for me I think I think a lot of that had to do with Chrome or
25:19 Google in general I guess pulling their support cuz Firefox used to just
25:23 like lavish in the Google money by being
25:27 like yes Google will be our default search engine yeah and now they don't
25:30 make nearly as much from that and then I think the reaction to that was to expand
25:35 and try to do other things um and I
25:40 don't think that worked out for them super well I could be wrong I know they
25:43 asked something for the Recently someone in the chat says it won't throttle media
25:47 but I'm searching for media in this
25:50 article and I do not see anywhere where it mentions not throttling media um
25:56 video no no mention of it so I know it
26:00 very specifically mentioned like jscript stuff JavaScript stuff um so maybe it
26:05 won't throttle media maybe this is all a conversation for not but if that's not
26:10 carved out it could be a potential issue for sure yeah and again like I said
26:14 discuss this on the Forum once it comes out try playing media stuff see if you
26:19 can find a site or a computer that won't
26:23 play very nicely with different things cuz it's not new and it's old and slow
26:27 and stuff um and see if you can get it over 1% in a background tab with media
26:31 if it doesn't throttle it then there you go we've solved that problem figured it
26:34 out I don't think there's going to be that many things that this is solving
26:38 though if it's not throttling media yeah I
26:41 really person to be fair there are a lot
26:45 of sites that have like ads and other
26:48 crap that use up lot of your CPU but
26:53 this doesn't help a lot of people that run like ad blocker and all that stuff
26:56 it's just inhibiting them potentially
27:00 um yeah I don't know it's it's going to
27:03 be weird speaking of how can I speaking
27:07 of uh the the dumbest thing I've ever read in the last forever this is
27:12 hilarious uh apparently a very close I
27:16 hope it's not us uh apparently a very close us Ally uh shot down probably
27:23 us have you like read the Drone regulations out here it's pretty nice
27:27 they're so stupid it's pretty nuts it's like you can't fly over like 100 feet or
27:33 something you can't be within like this many kilometers of a a a roadway or a
27:38 school or a an airport like and obviously airport makes sense but like
27:43 if you look in a Canadian and specifically BC drone regulations like
27:47 everything else BC is like the dumbest place to live in terms of legislation
27:51 yeah um they're so stupid BC has been
27:54 described as the wild wild west of North American politics yeah BC's also been
27:59 well Vancouver specifically has also been described as no fun city because
28:03 our legislators are like so overbearing
28:06 yeah so anyways a a very close it is
28:10 said to be very close I know the title doesn't say that but it said to be very close uh us Ally shot down a $200 drone
28:16 with a $3 million Patriot missile I don't think um Mexico has snow so very
28:23 close is probably oh no
28:29 it's us okay I don't know if that's like an actual photo of it happening though
28:33 it's us it's well that's very true but
28:37 then I would question the accuracy of this article no I'm just kidding anyway
28:41 let's get on to it um uh one one thing that was was great is he said that it
28:46 did a really fantastic job the Drone is
28:50 definitely no longer flying so like
28:53 there you go mission accomplished we can all go home that's good um he said the
28:59 it was a gut instinct he said that's an air defense problem because they're in
29:03 the air so they shot it with a gigantic 3 million doll missile cuz they're in
29:08 the air um one thing that was interesting was it was stated like if
29:13 we're going to have these types of reactions to drones I'm I'm paraphrasing
29:17 a little bit one of the easiest ways to like fight against North American Allies
29:23 would just be to fly really cheap drones everywhere and have them shoot them with
29:26 $3 million missiles then you just bleed them
29:30 financially commenting on the return on investment he said if I'm the enemy I'm
29:34 thinking hey I'm going to go on eBay and buy as many of these $300 quadcopters as
29:39 I can and expend all the Patriot missiles out
29:42 there yep yeah that would be a pretty good plan that's like when you're
29:47 playing red alert and you use like a really low tier unit to run really close
29:51 to the tank and then the tank shoots and it blows itself up really effective
29:56 really good strategy red 2 good game
30:00 believe that works with Siege tanks as well Starcraft 2 nobody plays it anymore
30:03 that's fine moving on
30:06 um I just thought that was hilarious that was in the dock I don't like
30:11 we probably don't have anything else to say there yeah like this is not the
30:15 scope of this show it's just funny how dumb how dumb there's drone in the title
30:20 so we were like whatever we'll talk about it um Google is looking into
30:24 revamping ad policies after big brands boyc caught so this is not surprising
30:30 they've already moved in this
30:33 direction um this was a freak out from
30:36 not that long ago where a whole bunch of
30:40 uh different YouTubers were saying that YouTube is like oh they're going to shut
30:45 us down and all this kind of stuff um oh
30:48 for like the demonetization based on certain tags and all that stuff that was
30:52 happening a while ago yeah yeah and this
30:56 like there there's there's this is a really long kind of not wall of text
31:00 because it's paragraphed but like the notes in here are talking about how
31:04 different like taxpayer funded ads would
31:08 be going before extremists or people
31:11 that are sexist or whatever the UK
31:14 government found out that their PSA ads were appearing before videos uploaded by
31:18 to quote rape apologists anti-semites
31:21 and banned hate preachers um so this
31:24 means that those people are getting money from UK taxpayers uh some others
31:28 were affected like British supermarket chain J J Sansbury pick that's like the
31:34 most British name for y hello this is
31:37 Jay Sansbury pick I help you
31:41 today hello Governor wow you want a SP
31:44 oh jeez we just lost all of our British fans sick
31:49 uh they appeared on videos posted by the white nationalist polish Defense League
31:54 the garden and L'Oreal ads appeared next to extremist and hatefield videos in
31:58 response Google announced changes in ad policy to give clients more control over
32:01 where their ads appear in YouTube and the Google Display Network would appear in the coming weeks so gun run was like
32:09 banned sorry I just glanced over and saw that that was fantastic
32:13 so already got my tee says someone uh
32:17 the the question then is how do they
32:20 ensure that this isn't going to essentially blur the lines of Comedy
32:27 which is something that's been happening lately a lot with the whole PewDiePie
32:31 thing um so is the advertising policy
32:36 going to make a determination between what is held as a joke and what is held
32:41 as someone's opinion how are they supposed to make those determinations
32:44 obviously that's an extremely difficult thing to do um so yeah it's just
32:50 anytime obviously there has to be you
32:54 know limit set in place once YouTube or something like like YouTube gets to the
32:59 the level that it's at now where it's so huge that these giant brands are
33:02 advertising they have to do something they have to do something about a lot of
33:07 the content that goes on the platform and there's different like just to jerp
33:10 in here for a second if you have like a late night comedy special and it gets a
33:16 little racy and you say some kind of edgy stuff that's great but you have
33:20 late night TV ads going with that
33:24 there's certain brands that aren't going to want to go on your edgy comedy
33:28 special totally on this is talking about like TV stuff and I completely get it if
33:33 I was an Advertiser I wouldn't want my ads going on certain videos I understand
33:37 that I think it's going to take a lot of
33:40 work on YouTube's end to make this and
33:45 work well the concerning part is look what happened with the like copyright
33:50 claim system on YouTube for however many years yeah that should have taken a lot
33:54 of work instead they were like automate
33:58 it yeah screw them automate it so if
34:02 they take the same kind of approach which I'm not necessarily saying that they're going to do um it could turn out
34:07 to be you know very concerning for some creators because there are creators out
34:12 there who do take that kind of um very
34:15 rash approach to Comedy um that that could be perceived
34:20 as hate speech and all that stuff so um
34:24 just and that's that's just like to the people that are doing just edgy comedy
34:30 stuff this might be a time for not that
34:33 I'm in necessarily a position to till you had to run your company but this
34:37 might be a time to reach out and try to do other things to make money try to
34:42 diversify your income no being a YouTuber is scary sometimes policy
34:47 changes happen and you can just lose everything from under you it's crazy so
34:51 before this comes in and you potentially get flagged to someone that they don't
34:55 want um like having ads going through
34:59 your channel for these different brands maybe try to figure it out and I'm sure
35:04 maybe start selling some edgy shirts man people like edgy shirts I'm sure that
35:08 it's not going to be like a blanket policy I'm sure that it's like they're
35:12 saying if we can go by what's been said so far it seems like pretty extreme
35:17 extreme cases there's going to be dashboard applications where advertisers
35:21 can kind of specify what they want and as long as it all gets implemented like
35:24 that I think it's great because what that does is it lends confidence to the
35:28 platform it gives these larger Brands you know more peace of mind that they're
35:34 advertising on stuff that they would want associated with their brand and it
35:38 just grows the entire industry because that's something that you know we've
35:42 been working on for the last however many years now is like legitimizing the
35:46 industry and it's finally sort of getting to that point um another weird
35:50 way to look at it is it might even be better for the other side because if
35:55 you're on YouTube and you're really really into watching your white
35:59 nationalist thing you might not want to watch an ad for a company that supports
36:02 all these things that you don't like J sales's PLC maybe you don't like that
36:09 Supermarket I don't I don't I don't know I this could be better for everyone I
36:15 don't know potentially I hope I hope it is it's a weird way of looking at it um
36:18 so Nitro corrected me in the chat apparently it's not pick it's not pic
36:22 it's PLC uh which stands for public limited company which I didn't know up
36:27 here we call him LTDs or corporations or inks
36:32 inks inks um so they just call it sabes s
36:38 sabes sainsbury that's still like sainsbury that's still the most British
36:42 Supermarket ever British at least to
36:46 us who are we to talk about we're not exactly an authority we go to the the
36:51 good old Real Canadian Superstore we're going to go get some
36:56 some cheese it's literally called The Real Canadian Superstore and we're going
37:00 to get some potatoes and we're going to put them all together and make some
37:03 Putin have you guys ever seen okay
37:06 pronounce Putin what the heck was
37:11 that I don't know if you guys know this we're going to go off topic here for a
37:15 second but um different brands will
37:20 differentiate their like American and Canadian branches just by like hiding
37:26 little Maple Leafs in their marketing and one of the easiest ones to tell wend
37:31 is with Wendy's and you can see it cuz like the
37:34 apostrophe you see that it's just a little Maple
37:39 Leaf and that's a super Canadian thing we're we're not going to we're not going
37:43 to stand out too much we're not going to try to hurt anybody's feelings oh we
37:46 just we just want the apostrophe if you can just make the apostrophe a little
37:50 Maple Leaf would just be so happy that's all we need after we go out there and
37:55 play some stick and Puck um you know we're going to go down to the good old
37:59 Wendy's we're going to get ourselves a Canadian burger and I don't even know
38:03 what this accent is it's like half like it's a little weird it's like it's like
38:06 half like Southern half Ontarian like half Norwegian sure yeah throw that one
38:14 in there anyway um speaking of which if you want
38:18 to watch a I'm just going to throw a recommendation in here hilarious series
38:24 uh maybe if you're 18 and above cuz they Ed some like harsh language and other
38:28 various things but letter Kenny it's about like Canadian Hicks is that
38:33 actually funny okay it requires a certain sense of
38:38 humor but I find it entertaining cuz I watched like they started on YouTube
38:42 right yeah so I watched like a couple other things and it's like it's very
38:46 different some of it's funny it just feels like they're like making the same
38:50 jokes over and over and over and over and over again uh if you're watching
38:54 letter Kenny problems uh maybe I don't which is like the series that's on
38:58 YouTube which I think is like 1 through six episodes of like just them standing
39:02 front of the camera giving like essentially on liners yeah yeah that's
39:05 not what the show is okay the show is like it has story progression and
39:08 character development and like all this kind of stuff I'm just I'm trying to think of what they always say like oh
39:14 pitter patter let's get at her yeah P patter let's get at
39:18 her just like the most hit Canadian thing ever I love it my favorite one by
39:24 far is your 10 ply Bud the idea there is
39:28 that two ply toilet paper is already soft yes yes yes yes so 10 ply toilet
39:32 paper would be ridiculously soft and you're just way too speaking of pit
39:37 patter let's get adding everyone wants us to move on so uh so add spots I mean
39:42 I was going to say another topic but I mean pitter patter let's get at her
39:45 pitter patter let's get at her before we do ad spots you want to do Floatplane
39:49 sh nope uh I don't have that set up this
39:54 second because that's set up on Linus's laptop all right so let's do float
39:57 plane's a thing yeah let's just talk about we don't need to show it sure I
40:02 just don't know what oh there you go perfect float plan's a thing yeah it's
40:05 pretty great y streaming usually works not always usually though it's been
40:11 pretty good lately don't don't read the fine print of which there is none that says that it sometimes works and
40:15 hopefully works but then you can download it Tech when you sign up for
40:19 Floatplane there's like a hopefully this will work section that includes
40:23 streaming well there you go but like a very high percentage of the time time
40:27 streaming works not always not always
40:31 but a very high percentage of the time so anyway uh on float
40:36 plane we have the Silverstone this one
40:40 just went up last night the Silverstone headphone stand project conclusion oh
40:45 dang when did that start two years later yeah okay so the conclusion to a project
40:50 actually pretty funny nice little Vlog going on nice little Vlog yeah um we
40:54 reviewed a an 18-month old device hell
40:57 yeah the Surface Pro 4 why not because uh the price recently dropped and we
41:01 were like should you buy it or should you wait for sp5 okay yeah which should
41:06 there you go I'm actually waiting to see
41:09 this video because for my mom's work she wants like a tablety kind of thingy and
41:14 I'm like maybe a service apparently powerful you'll have to watch to find
41:19 out how it is yeah um luckily float pay
41:23 member benefits of the job so I'll be able to watch one there is also the MSI
41:29 Trident 3 Desktop review so if you guys remember that little tiny console killer
41:34 thing from CES that we checked out at MSI's Booth got it got a full review
41:39 going on and then um there's also a very
41:42 very light laptop you might even say
41:45 it's only some grams of weight oh dang
41:49 that's on on there as well so we got a lot of good content over one thing from
41:52 the Techquickie side that I want to drop real quick is the like we passed a
41:56 million subscri got a golden play button here's like the
42:00 history of Techquickie it didn't include everything it didn't have my 15
42:05 minute scripts in it which made me a little sad but it's okay um but if
42:09 you're a fan of John he hosts that video
42:12 he hosts it yeah so it's pretty it's
42:16 cool I actually really like that video there's multiple times where I burst out
42:19 laughing which is not that common cuz I'm I've been on the internet for a long
42:23 time and my soul is old and numb uh but
42:26 I yeah it's it's it's very funny it's very well done the skid at the end is
42:30 funny um it's the the whole thing is good I recommend checking that out so if
42:35 if you love John and you love TCH quickie and especially if you love
42:39 Dennis Dennis is in it too then you should go check that out so anyway float
42:43 playing it's great we release new videos all the time every day um if you're
42:47 having trouble finding it go to the lineus tech tips.com Forum there's a button like at the top that says float

45:59 SP what do we have left there was a few interesting things uh Nintendo is like
46:04 doubling production of the switch yeah apparently yeah which is like there
46:08 isn't really anything to really say about that uh on account of strong
46:12 demand the company reported that now plans to manufacture at least 16 million
46:15 consoles over the fiscal year starting April 1st which is twice its initial
46:18 plan so I guess they didn't have very high expectations to begin with maybe
46:23 well like uh it's sort of a Zelda machine right now someone posted an
46:27 interesting infographic which I don't have I hate how I always have these
46:31 Revelations during the show instead of before the show super super helpful for
46:36 everyone um but it was all the launch titles for all Nintendo consoles
46:41 throughout their history and it was interesting seeing how my favorite
46:45 consoles so far have had like not very many launch titles like N64 had like two
46:50 or three and Super Nintendo had not very many at all as well at least na launch
46:55 titles yeah that's true they might have had more like JP launch titles or
46:59 whatever but not very many na ones um I
47:04 also while I was on my trip in Boston a lot of people had switches that's not
47:08 that surprising that was that you were going to PAX East no I know but still
47:12 like it was it was especially because they were relatively hard to even buy
47:16 true it was it was interesting to see people liked it liked Zelda I guess that
47:22 much to like kind of haul it around with them all the time when it's not that
47:27 easy it's not as easy as a 3DS or something no you can't just throw it in
47:30 your pocket you need to bring like a dedicated bag for it or have one of those ginormous carrying cases which are
47:34 like legitimately this big which was just like a little bit cumbersome get
47:40 one if you're going to get a switch because the screens are sketchy and like
47:44 scratch up really easily like like in
47:47 the dock it seems like a lot of their
47:51 stuff is going to have quality control issues with that because I know there were also the issues that dbrand yeah
47:57 realized with the coding on both the
48:00 joycons and the the console itself are
48:03 just not very durable so dbrand would put a skin on and take it off and it would just slowly wear away to be fair
48:09 they said it was over a a large number of applications and removals but still
48:14 it should last it doesn't happen on a huge amount of other devices and like
48:19 the N64 is still relevant like not
48:22 relevant but it's still possibly in good shape today if you have one um um do you
48:27 think that your switch is going to last however many years 20 I legitimately
48:31 don't if you're actually using it especially because uh in different modes
48:36 I should say going in and out of the dock the I should have covered this in
48:39 my video I didn't have any problems with it with it which is why I didn't but I
48:43 did notice it I just also noticed I didn't have any problems with it so I
48:46 didn't bring it up but the when you go
48:50 to rail in your your switch into the
48:53 dock yeah there's what looks like rubber pads that you would like slide it along
48:58 they're plastic so you go to like slide it in
49:01 and it slides against that and it scratches the screen what it shouldn't
49:07 matter but it has been so like the one
49:10 time I've docked mine since I got it cuz I don't have a screen protector on it
49:13 yet I I'm getting one I'm getting one I just don't have it yet I like pressed it
49:17 against the back of the dock and then slid it in which is something you can do
49:21 so that it the screen doesn't touch the front there's enough Gap there that it's
49:24 fine and then once it was plugged in I like light let go of it so that it just
49:28 like rested against it and then everything was okay I just do not want to scratch it the dock is just aesthetic
49:33 right basically it's it's a glorified
49:37 USB hub so like that holds the switch oh
49:42 man um to correct my statement from a couple minutes ago the N64 was released
49:47 in '96 at least mine's plastic 96 that's
49:51 crazy that is actually pretty crazy so 21 years ago which is actually pretty
49:57 nuts um non official estimates suggest
50:00 the switch sold about 1 and a. half million units in its first week and that
50:04 compares to 13.5 million Wii U units sold in the entire four-year run of the
50:10 console uh but the thing is like and I
50:14 watched someone's video because someone was like okay a lot of people around the
50:17 switch launch are talking about how badly represented the Wii U was because
50:22 no one knew what the heck it was sure so he was like okay let's do a
50:25 retrospective and look at how bad it actually was watching The Press launches
50:29 and stuff even I'm sitting there going like what is this they never show the
50:35 actual console they just show the tablety thing like it's actually really
50:39 weird the whole thing is very weird I remember like even myself being confused
50:43 as to what it was being like is this just like an addition for the Wii like
50:48 it was very very odd and like they the
50:52 press conference for the switch wasn't the best press conference I've ever seen
50:56 by by any means but you understood what it was yeah you absolutely knew what the
51:01 switch was there was no questions about it you knew what the joy-cons were you
51:04 knew what the switch was you knew there's three different modes handheld tabletop docked you knew Zelda was
51:10 coming on it like you knew all the facts and that's what really mattered that was
51:14 not a thing with the Wii U to the point where even now I'll like talk to people about the
51:20 WiiU and they're like oh man I really want to play breath of the wild but I
51:23 don't want to play by an entire system just to play breath of the wild and I'm
51:27 like do you have someone you can like borrow a Wii U off of or like go to
51:31 Willow which isn't available for most people and like see if you can rent a
51:34 Wii U um and they're like what like it's
51:37 on the wiii I'm like no it's on the Wii U they're like oh so you have to get the
51:40 tablet thing I'm like no it's a different console it had
51:46 a really cool version of Mario Kart and I liked it Wii U is actually pretty sick
51:51 speaking of Mario Kart like I'm wondering if they're over producing at
51:57 this point if they're doubling they're playing to 16 million consoles over this
52:01 year because what do they have coming out breath of the wild anyone who wanted
52:06 to get a switch for breath of the wild has probably either got one already or
52:13 just given up and bought breath of the Wild on Wii U right that's what I did I
52:17 just bought it on the Wii U and play like yes there's some stuttering in in
52:22 towns and stuff there's some stuttering on the switch as well that's yeah so
52:26 it's not not like it's a Wii U issue people are still playing it over there
52:30 um what's coming out a reskinned or not
52:34 even reskin Mario Kart 8 yeah uh Mario
52:37 Kart 8 with additional content or something it's no I wouldn't call it a
52:41 reskin I think it's yeah there's some
52:44 things that have changed Mario Kart with additional content yeah but a game
52:47 that's already been released and then like two other fa most Mario Karts are
52:51 pretty similar and there's like there's there's some it's just not as different
52:55 as most of the are sure but like there's there's more courses there's more Riders
53:01 uh there's this more new like training wheels mode thing like there's a there
53:04 are some things that are changing I'm just curious where they think 16 million
53:07 units of demand is going to come from yeah well like I'm expecting
53:13 smash smash for took like three years
53:16 did it seriously to something like that yeah so I'm I'm you know maybe they have
53:23 plans that we don't know about yet maybe they're going to be doing like massive
53:27 Virtual Console stuff I know that's been a huge point of discussion so maybe
53:31 they're like hey yeah we're going to have like super metroid and all this
53:35 other like Mario 64 o Time stuff that you can play
53:39 through their online um monthly subscription plan or whatever whatever
53:43 it is that they're doing um maybe that's where they think the demand's going to
53:46 come from I would probably get one if a lot of those old games were on that and
53:51 exclusively available through the switch um but yeah E3 announcements people are
53:56 saying that's possible for sure um yeah
54:00 it'll just be interesting to see because hopefully they'll have more stuff by
54:03 holiday season otherwise I don't know where they're going to sell 16 million
54:07 switches another big one is Super Mario Odyssey is coming out for holiday season
54:13 yeah so people are interested in it right now because of Zelda and then
54:17 Mario Kart's coming out in like not that long but it's not a new game whatever
54:21 it's going to be kind of weird I don't think a huge wave of people are going to
54:25 buy switch is for Mario Kart I don't really see that happening um especially
54:30 now that we've seen how to be honest crappy the single Joy con yes
54:36 experiences yeah cuz half of that was like oh you can do I think they showed
54:41 split screen right for Mario Kart 8 yeah yeah I think so so you can do split
54:45 screen on like an airplane with your friend I want do that like I tried to
54:50 hold the joycon I was like wow this is total trash yeah like legitimate I am
54:55 very uninterested playing Mario Kart on a on one Joy on one joyon it's so
55:00 uncomfortable so maybe they'll have other more comfortable joycons coming
55:05 down the line I doubt that I don't think so but um some people have made like 3D
55:10 printed adapter things that you can rail in that make it better but for me it's
55:15 just the proximity of the buttons and the yeah thumbstick how did that make it
55:21 through yeah I don't I don't know I don't understand anyway so yeah I I hope
55:27 I wish them the best because I like Nintendo um if Super Mario Odyssey
55:32 knocks it out of the park I think they'll be in a pretty good spot because
55:36 then like parents for kids who didn't
55:40 want to buy a switch right now because buying a switch and Zelda is actually
55:44 quite an investment no kid especially because they're probably also going to want a Pro Controller and those Pro
55:49 controllers being uspc based that's
55:52 they're like super dope but not cheap
55:56 cheap at all um so I could see it being
55:59 a holiday purchase for a lot of different families and if Mario Odyssey
56:03 is good that's two titles right there which is often all it really needs to
56:07 sell someone Samsung sa is going to have
56:10 facial recognition for payments cool let's do we can do this as
56:15 like one of our last articles uh these two we'll do I like both of these so
56:19 first pictures of AMD Vega reference
56:22 card has been released and there's a new
56:27 logo there's a couple cool things here to notice there's the radon Vega logo
56:32 which looks pretty sick in my opinion and then that is like a cool stylized
56:37 heat sink you've got those like kind of slashes going on there white back plate
56:44 which honestly is working with a lot of different system builds right now
56:48 there's a lot of white white and black themed and black white red and black is
56:52 definitely a thing um they like I I
56:56 think that could look awesome the side of it still looks like it'll have the
57:00 Radeon thing there is that like metal do
57:04 you think I really can't tell these seems like pretty not great photos yeah
57:08 no kidding um so I'm going to try to not make very many assumptions about that
57:12 but it's I see where you're coming from on the metal thing I was actually
57:15 wondering that earlier but it could just be like a really crappy that kind of
57:19 looks like a a similar thing to the back
57:22 BL that you it's yeah like something could it
57:26 yeah yeah that's funny um but yeah no I
57:30 really like the look back the like the it looks like it would be a v if it
57:35 wasn't cut off there with the red logo that looks really sharp radi on Vega
57:39 clean text clean design it's got the lines on there looks really sh like the
57:44 design on there really badass I'm happy about that because like
57:48 Aesthetics are totally a thing right now I ain't mad at that I ain't mad at that
57:53 uh jump into another topic Sweden produces programming from grade one
57:58 which is awesome in my opinion I wish I
58:02 had learned programming from grade one or in school at all I wish it was like
58:06 more of a thing at the schools that we were at I would like wasn't really that
58:11 much of a thing instead of spending hours learning cursive which I will
58:15 never ever ever use yeah um I would love
58:20 to be able to program something yeah like anything I'm like not capable and
58:28 the thing is it's going to become like you might want to start taking Linda
58:32 courses or something not to give her guys a show out um but because it's
58:38 going to become oh God a very comp yeah the bot is targeting you now so you only
58:42 have to post it once and then it reposts it like a billion times I just uh spam
58:47 chat don't worry about it it's okay don't worry gun run just Global bans you
58:52 too much spamming um anyways uh like it's going
58:57 to be a very competitive thing in the job market because even business people
59:00 if you can make little bot things to help do stuff if you can write really
59:06 complex Excel equations whatever that'll help you a lot and speaking of really
59:10 complex Excel equations they want to
59:13 integrate the fact that they're teaching people coding in schools into their math
59:18 and science programs so in order to
59:22 solve certain problems you're going to be able to write a program to do it for
59:25 you and they they're going to want you to try to figure out how to write programs to solve different arithmetic
59:31 problems automatically instead of you doing it and they're going to want you
59:35 to be able to do it on your own yeah because they're going to go like okay
59:38 now that you understand this concept kind of show me how you understand it by
59:42 making this computer solve it for you and then you've now ascended beyond that
59:46 you don't have to worry about doing it manually anymore you can just have this computer do it I think that's super cool
59:50 that would be awesome yeah that would be awesome instead of okay it's time for
59:55 your grade 12 provincials everybody
59:58 clear the data on your graphing calculator you can't have any games or
60:02 cheat codes on your graphing calculators
60:06 otherwise you're going to get expelled it just we can't have it that
60:10 was so annoying cuz I actually had a lot of stuff in dumbest like school man
60:16 sorry I brought tools that made me prepared for this issue my bad anyways
60:21 um a note from Sweden's minister of Education says we need more coders and
60:26 it's a skill that will be needed in more jobs in the future moreover we are being
60:30 affected by coding we are being affected by coding
60:34 to a Growing Degree to a greater degree probably that
60:39 makes sense to an increasing degree yeah yeah I think that is super cool I think
60:44 teaching coding in school is super important I think that should be like a
60:47 basic skill that basically everyone has yeah I wish I had some of it cuz I'm
60:51 going to be that old man he's like I don't get these kids these days they
60:55 have to code they have all the stuffff the technology it's ridiculous I even
61:01 took some of the stuff in school and I'm going to be that old man so I need to take refresher courses isn't it weird
61:05 feeling old it is these kids three Printing and coding is going to be
61:10 taught in school tell that's going to be I tell you what really
61:14 interesting anyways guys I think that's it for the stream um thanks for coming
61:20 by thank you for watching sick and tired host the W show for you this week uh if
