0:00 - When I get a new product my favorite feeling is the disdain the owner
0:05 has for me just flowing out of that product.
0:08 (boxes thudding) That's how I feel holding Finalmouse products.
0:12 Love 'em or hate 'em, Finalmouse makes some pretty neat products
0:15 in very limited batches that are highly sought-after.
0:18 As far as I can tell, a lot of you hate 'em
0:21 but let's get into it. I'm super excited. This is their latest special edition.
0:26 It's already shipping, but if you didn't pre-order it,
0:29 like every piece of electronics that exist,
0:33 you're not getting this. So, today we have the Starlight small
0:38 and the Starlight medium. And I think what these mice really special is the design,
0:44 with all these limited editions they've been doing, these are stunning mice.
0:47 Like they're works of art, in a sense. And like, they're the kind of thing
0:51 that I would have trouble using. I'd almost want to put on a stand,
0:54 put it in the background of a stream or something 'cause these are beautiful and, holy smokes, it's light.
1:00 I knew it was light, the small is rated for 42 grams.
1:03 The big one for 47. They say because of their process
1:07 it could be plus minus one or two grams.
1:10 Shocking how light this feels. It is nothing, it's disappearing.
1:14 Like if I looked away I would assume that there's nothing in my hand.
1:17 That's not true. It's still there. (laughing) Let's weigh it 'cause I need to know.
1:21 So, there's nothing out there that you can get that's quite this light, but I'd say the most comparable
1:26 or certainly the one they're probably going for is the Logitech G Pro X Superlight.
1:30 That's my gaming mouse of choice. I think the build quality's fantastic.
1:34 The accuracy, the performance, all of it is phenomenal.
1:38 It's Logitech, there's issues, in terms of like double-clicking and whatnot.
1:42 But they have one of the best customer service in the business.
1:45 So, it's pretty easy to RMA stuff. So, this is the small.
1:48 So, they say that it's 42 grams. I've seen online that it's a little bit more usually,
1:54 but still 44 grams. That's wild. Just kidding.
1:58 We're going for the medium, 50 grams. That's still over what they say.
2:02 Honestly, to me that's a little bit disappointing. The Superlight, it's 62?
2:07 62, 63. The Superlight and the medium seem to be the more closer in size.
2:12 So, I would say that they're comparable. I think that the small for small hands is great.
2:17 If you're like a really aggressive claw player,
2:20 that might be the right fit. I'm more of a medium. I do kind of a hybrid thing where it's like not quite palm,
2:26 not quite claw. And I think a lot of people do that. 'Cause I'm so excited but you'll have to wait
2:31 till I talk about our sponsor, Secret Labs. Thanks to Secret Lab for sponsoring today's video.
2:36 Secret Lab chairs are engineered to keep you incredibly comfortable for long hours
2:40 at work and play. Their new Titan Evo 2022 chair
2:43 keeps you feeling comfortable for longer. 4-Way lumbar support, ultra comfortable line
2:48 of different seat material and more. All chairs come with up to a five year extended warranty
2:53 and a 49 day return policy. Head to the link in the description below
2:57 to check out Secret Lab. In terms of build quality, how they achieve getting it
3:01 so small, is actually like a magnesium for the top
3:05 and the bottom as well. Although the bottom one is apparently quite a bit more
3:08 fragile to shave down on the weight. In terms of like what you would feel,
3:12 this doesn't feel metallic. Like when I read that it was magnesium, I thought it would kind of feel cold
3:16 to the touch or something. That was kind of a big controversy where they said
3:19 that they invented the honeycomb mouse. They're the biggest inventors,
3:22 they've done the biggest breakthrough in mouse design ever. And everyone's like, actually there's a been mice like that.
3:28 I think light mice are the way to go. I think light takes less energy to move the mouse.
3:32 So, your endurance is better. You can get there fast. You can be more consistent.
3:35 For me, the danger of like spilling food or drink
3:39 or just greasy hands, ruining my mouse. That's scary.
3:42 This isn't the first Starlight mouse. This is the Phantom, which is this color scheme.
3:47 And they've done a lot of different ones. They have like a Hades and Ares, like kind of god-theme ones.
3:50 And they're all really beautiful, just stunning. And I think like, side by side, it'd be cool.
3:54 I wish I had started collecting them, but, you know, you can only collect one thing in this day and age.
3:58 And I collect the smiles of viewers watching this video.
4:02 - [Jono] Pokemon cards. - Nope. (chuckles) That's expensive. (chuckles)
4:06 It's got its PTFE feet. They're pretty small and it doesn't come
4:10 with changes of them. It feels pretty smooth. Not as smooth as the Superlight,
4:13 especially if you put the glide pad on the bottom.
4:17 One thing that you'll notice is that there is no spot
4:20 to remove to put the wireless receiver. I think that's a mistake.
4:24 I'll take the five grams to get that spot right in there.
4:27 I think that every mouse that is wireless needs to have a spot to put its wireless receiver in.
4:33 This is this one. And in fact, we should probably get back to unboxing all the other stuff.
4:36 It's a little bit bigger than a normal one, which is nice.
4:39 A little less, the chance of losing it. Remaining, what's else in the box is the receiver,
4:44 the mouse and this pair cord cable. Wow, that feels fantastic.
4:49 Ooh. Yeah.
4:52 Oh, I feel so fancy. This is a good quality cable.
4:56 Wow, I got no complaints about this, except for this.
4:59 You see this? Micro USB.
5:02 I understand that the connector in the mouse for micro USB is lighter than the USB Type-C one.
5:08 Like I said, I'm willing to take a few grams to get Type-C.
5:12 I'm so sick of anything being other than Type-C for USB.
5:16 We are way past that point. Good cable, bad connector.
5:19 Get it together, Finalmouse. Get it (beep) together.
5:22 That's the future. Oops, I need that cable. Sorry. When these mice were first coming out
5:26 there was quite a few issues of build quality. Inconsistencies where like the scroll wheel
5:31 was actually kind of slightly off-centered. I wouldn't say that it's spot on, it looks a little bit leaned to the left, but it's not bad.
5:37 And like I'm only looking for that 'cause I've seen that online. There was also issues of some of the pads in the mouse
5:44 sliding and becoming sticky. The PCB is more secured in they've pretensioned the button
5:49 so that they feel a little more clicky and light. And I say that those buttons do feel pretty good.
5:54 Scroll wheel feels good. It's a little bit, I kind of think it's a little too resistant
5:58 but that's a preference thing. Side buttons, those feel fine.
6:03 I think they're a little bit small. I can definitely see in the heat of battle
6:06 I would double press or press both. I prefer my buttons a little more spaced out
6:10 than what is on this mouse. The button I really don't like is this DPI one.
6:15 It's kind of just like, it feels like when you've had a controller
6:19 for like seven years and you didn't realize that some juice got into the buttons,
6:23 takes a couple presses before it like kind of gets soft again.
6:28 A big complaint about this mouse is that there is no companion software.
6:32 That's fine. You don't really need to be able to customize everything on your mouse.
6:36 So, the final sensor, it's considered a flawless sensor
6:39 and it's highly rated, it's well regarded. It's got sensitivity up to 20,000 DPI,
6:44 but this bad boy, you only have the pre-built
6:48 for sensitivity options. So, 400, 800, 1600 and 3200.
6:53 That's fine for most things. For me, I always play at 800 unless a specific game
6:56 requires something else. So, that's fine. But if you're someone that like really does tweak
7:01 with the settings and has a weird sensitivity thing for a specific esports game that you play,
7:05 just keep that in mind. You're stuck at those base settings.
7:09 Battery life on this mouse is supposed to be quite excellent. They say that it's about 160 hours of use.
7:13 So, they say that it's like three weeks of heavy use, seven weeks of kind of softer use,
7:17 16 weeks of like idle. We are set up now, currently plugged in
7:21 is the Starlight small. We had to switch our G Pro X Superlight
7:25 just because the one we were having was having pairing issues. So, you'll now see that it is 100% less pride, sadly.
7:31 And I've added the light foot pad version at the bottom 'cause that's what I use at home.
7:36 It really does make it smoother. At least in my brain,
7:39 my smooth brain. (chuckles) First impression is, wow, this is light.
7:44 The small one is a little bit too small for me. I find my pinky just ends up dragging.
7:47 That's not a good feeling for gaming. I want to kind of like have it part of the hold.
7:52 - [Jono] You're the big spoon. - I'm, oh yeah, I'm the real big spoon.
7:57 I love you, mouse. (chuckles) You know what? It's "ShortCircuit," we ain't got time for that.
8:01 Small one, too small for me. Too small,
8:04 mouse. So, we're actually gonna start first with the G Pro X,
8:07 which is my baseline, but I don't play a lot of CS:GO.
8:11 So, I need a little bit of practice to see how that feels,
8:15 also to find my sense with this mouse. Okay, so this feels very comfortable to me.
8:20 It's light. It's easy. It's just accurate.
8:24 It's just like, it feels like an extension of my body in a good way, although I'm terrible at CS:GO.
8:28 So yeah, this is feeling pretty good. Let's compare it to the Starlight.
8:33 So, one thing that I don't love, little nitpick,
8:38 is the power button is a little dip switch, which is fine or not.
8:41 I don't know if it's a dip switch but it doesn't really have a label to which one's on or off.
8:45 I don't know if it's my mouse that's dead
8:49 or if I'm having the wrong thing or if this isn't working
8:54 but that's not a great experience. One of the problems about not having companion software,
8:58 with the launch tech, we were having trouble but we were able to fairly easily diagnose
9:02 where the problem was coming from and then solve it. Here, it's just like, is it the battery that's dead?
9:07 Is it the mouse receiver that's not working? 'Cause when I plug in the cable, it'll work.
9:13 And so I know that everything's gonna be all right
9:18 but I'm gonna cry first. There you go, it's working. So, I don't know if it just was a charge issue
9:23 or what it was. Speaking of software, no RGB either.
9:27 That's totally fine for me, on a gaming mouse, I would disable it 'cause I want the extra battery instead.
9:31 The fact that I am reminded of the fact that I don't care that there's no RBG.
9:36 The point, (chuckling) I guess it's the flex. It's the fun of it.
9:41 It's the collectibility of them. And I think like that's, to me, is a big use case
9:45 of this is you could buy the whole set and have a beautiful background in your stream.
9:49 You could just enjoy the collecting. Maybe the resale value is good. You just buy them and then resell 'em for 25% more
9:56 than you bought it for. You dirty-ass scalper. But to me, like I am not that interested in
10:02 a beautiful mouse, I'm more interested in the usability, and the usability is also there.
10:06 I don't know if I like it more than the G Pro X. I don't even know if I like it more than the Viper Ultimate.
10:11 The accuracy is good. It's a flawless sensor and I've mostly dialed
10:14 in my settings on my other mouse so I can trust that this feels pretty good.
10:18 A big thing that was happening early on is that people were complaining about the DPIs they were advertising.
10:24 They were actually off what they normally are. And so they've said on this revision, they've fixed it.
10:29 And they've gotten it closer to what people expect when they're getting that kind of DPI.
10:33 This doesn't feel as bad as, I'm guessing, what people first thought
10:36 but, oh hello, oh God, that's a scout.
10:39 Nope, not an op. (laughing) Oops.
10:42 Would I recommend this mouse if you are a gamer that wants the best gaming mouse?
10:47 Not necessarily. You might find that this ambidextrous shape is what appeals to you.
10:51 You'll like the crazy lightness of it. I think the real appeal is how it looks.
10:56 It's the special limited edition appeal of it.
11:00 And so if that appeals to you, then this is a cool mouse. I think like the different color ways,
11:04 they're pretty sick and you can wait for the next one, if you like that more.
11:07 I'd really like the white version, the full white. I don't like white mice, but the detailing on the white
11:12 just looks really good. The way it catches the light. This is a cool product.
11:15 I'm glad it exists. It's not for me. It's probably not for you.
11:18 I know people complain when we review a hundred dollar mice, this bad boy's $189 US.
11:24 - [Jono] How much is the Superlight? - 150 US, I believe. But you can get a regular G Pro for like 130.
11:29 You can get (chuckles) like the Viper for cheaper.
11:33 You can get the SteelSeries Aerox 3 or whatever it is.
11:37 That's an excellent mouse for cheap. There's lots of better options,
11:41 if you're worried about a buck. If you just want the frigging most swaggiest of mice,
11:46 if you're a sneakerhead equivalent of Mouse Town,
11:49 this is your boy, but you won't find it. That's what I'm saying. It's like Sneaker Town, where it's like,
11:53 you just gotta wait in line at the Nike store and buy this boy, boy.
11:57 - [Jono] You can't even wait in line for this mouse. - I know it's over. Just like this video.
12:00 Thank you for watching this "ShortCircuit." If you liked this, there's plenty of other reviews
12:05 of me unboxing mice. Unboxing.
12:08 We turn the boxes into spheres it is crazy dog, it's crazy.
