So about two and a half years ago, we showed off our new Origin gaming PC. It was top of the line!
0:07
6700K quad-core processor, dual GTX 980Ti's and SLI, all kinds of great stuff.
0:13
But, as it always is with technology, our Origin PC gaming rig, well, it aged.
0:22
But,
0:23
Origin sponsored this video today for us to tell you about a program that they have called Origin Evolve,
0:29
which basically takes the way that
0:32
DIY computer builders upgrade their machines over time and makes it so that you, the person who's not necessarily
0:39
comfortable or doesn't have the time for that stuff, can take advantage of a slower upgrade to keep your system up-to-date,
0:46
all while retaining your system warranty.
0:48
So basically the way it works is as long as you signed up for the Evolve program and the extended warranty,
1:00
when you originally purchased your system, and it's available in either two or three years of coverage,
1:05
then you
1:06
contact Origin PC, you can say, okay, so here's the components that I have now and
1:12
here's what I want to upgrade to. And you have to not- here,
1:15
we're gonna put a list here of all the different things that can qualify for Evolve. And
1:19
basically what they do is they do that
1:22
DIY work of going in, finding a buyer for the used hardware, whether it's on like
1:27
Craigslist or Kijiji or eBay or whatever, and they flip the thing for you and they give you what they determine to be fair market value,
1:35
towards your upgrade.
1:37
So once you've agreed that, yes, indeed, they are providing you fair market value and you want to go ahead with the upgrade,
1:42
you pack up your system, hopefully, uh,
1:46
be a little better than we've done here, and you ship it off to Origin.
1:56
Then, after one of Origin's certified technicians has completed your upgrade,
2:00
they will ship it back to you with all of the sexy new hardware included.
2:06
Alright, so while we get this baby fired up with, let's say, Shadow of the Tomb Raider,
2:11
test its gaming prowess, let's go ahead and walk through what exactly
2:15
we had upgraded from our old machine. So we changed out our case. Actually, this is pretty cool. So they've got this- where'd it go?
2:24
There it is. So this is pretty cool.
2:26
They've got this new UV printing method that they can do on their glass side panels, so you can get custom graphics on them.
2:32
So that was something that we did change about the system.
2:36
This is the panel for the other side, but that's not normally covered by the Evolve program,
2:40
so we don't get a credit for our old case for that.
2:43
But things that we did get a credit for, we went from a 6700K to an 8700K,
2:49
so we've gone from four cores to six cores. The 8700K is a faster gaming processor.
2:54
So now our system is better for both creation and for gaming, and we've got an extra couple of cores in case we wanted to stream while we game.
3:01
Obviously, in order to do that, we had to upgrade our motherboard, so we've gone to an EVGA Z370 Classified K.
3:09
We ob- pfft, I mean,
3:10
okay, we didn't really have to change our RAM, but RGB...
3:15
RGB RAM wasn't a thing just two and a half years ago.
3:18
It's funny, because when you're buried in this stuff every day, you kind of lose track of how quickly the industry changes.
3:24
So we went ahead with some RGB RAM, and we went from dual GTX 980Ti's and SLI to dual GTX 1080Ti's.
3:32
So this is gonna give us a significant bump in our gaming performance. We didn't change our power supply,
3:37
we didn't change our optical drive, so there were a few things
3:40
that we were able to reuse.
3:42
Now, those of you watching this video are probably thinking to yourself,
3:45
"'Gee, Liudas, that's weird timing for an upgrade to the GTX 1080Ti when the RTX
3:52
2080Ti is either right around the corner or
3:56
available right now." And that really is exactly the point of
4:01
the Origin PC Evolve program.
4:04
Not needing to keep track of exactly when hardware is coming out and still being able to upgrade like a
4:10
a DIYer would, even if, well,
4:13
you aren't really paying attention
4:14
and you don't have like a guy
4:17
to get rid of your old hardware to for a good price.
4:20
So I'm just running through
4:20
and making sure we've got everything
4:22
configured correctly here.
4:23
So it comes with SLI enabled right out of the box.
4:26
And actually we can have a quick look at our CPU temps here.
4:30
So you can see our 8700K is turboing up to 4.3 gigahertz
4:34
in a lightly threaded workload.
4:36
That's about what we'd expect to see.
4:37
It's amazing how much CPU
4:39
just downloading a game off Steam can use.
4:42
Remember guys, there's a decompression aspect
4:44
to this as well.
4:45
It's not just downloading files.
4:48
Then we can have a look here.
4:49
So our package, even though we are lightly loaded here,
4:53
is right around the 40 to 45 degrees Celsius range.
4:57
And then our cores are all in the,
4:59
it must be a trial of hardware monitor,
5:02
are all in the 30 to 40 range.
5:04
Looking good.
5:05
So we should be able to absolutely
5:07
crank this game.
5:09
We're running at 3440 by 1440 ultra wide.
5:14
Let's go ahead and fire it up.
5:17
Man, that's smooth.
5:20
We don't even have G-Sync or anything
5:21
on this monitor either.
5:24
What are these guys doing over here?
5:26
These kids are lighting stuff on fire.
5:28
Oh no, they're sparklers.
5:32
Thought they were little pyromaniacs.
5:34
So our average FPS, even including 2x SMAA
5:38
is 91 frames per second.
5:39
You can see we actually ended up really nicely balanced.
5:42
We were GPU bound,
5:43
only 2% of the time.
5:45
Not too shabby.
5:48
So that's pretty much it.
5:49
That's the Origin PC Evolve program.
