0:00 so today with the assistance of my cameraman who is seated in a very
0:04 comfortable chair I will be unboxing Acer's 23in 3D Vision ready monitor so
0:10 this is a 120 HZ monitor it's widecreen
0:13 full HD resolution but what's special
0:16 about it I mean more special than the you know striking stunning good looks
0:20 orange accents and excellent response times you know all that good stuff is
0:26 the 120 HZ refresh rate so so that means
0:30 that even if you aren't using 3D Vision
0:33 the 120 HZ refresh rate gives you the benefit of twice as many updates on your
0:39 screen every second as a conventional 60
0:42 HZ LCD so besides the fact that you're able to run at HD resolution you're able
0:47 to run it sort of um with with twice as
0:51 much information going through the monitor as you would otherwise have access to so it means that every image
0:57 that changes you're going to see it just that much faster than if you were using
1:01 a conventional 60 HZ LCD so I'm kind of
1:04 digging out some of the accessories here and I'm going to show you all of this in
1:07 just a minute this is a bit of a precursor to a video that I'll be doing
1:12 shortly on 3D Vision surround so if you actually you can see if you sort of pan
1:17 around here I've got three of these bad boys that I'm going to be using to run
1:22 NVIDIA's 3D Vision surround so that means I will have one monitor in the
1:27 center giving me my Crosshair as well as uh whatever's going on right
1:32 in front of my character if I'm running an FPS game and then with the two other
1:37 monitors I'm going to have peripheral vision going and there goes the stand okay and
1:43 so that's going to give me that uh that immersiveness that is has not been
1:48 possible in the past with any gaming technology unless you get out into the
1:53 really really extreme Boutique stuff
1:56 that realistically the average consumer can't afford so everything that's
2:02 included first we have an HDMI cable
2:05 next we have an audio cable so there is actually an audio outjack on the bottom
2:09 of the monitor next we have a dual link DVI cable and the reason you need a dual
2:15 link DVI cable is that when you're running even at a 1920x 1080 resolution
2:22 if you're running at 120 HZ versus 60 HZ
2:25 the computer has to send twice as much data to the monitor so you can't use a
2:30 single Link cable next we have a VGA cable and then we've also got a power
2:35 cable so let's have a look at the monitor that I've already assembled over
2:39 here rather than waiting for me to assemble it although the assembly
2:42 process is quite simple all you need to do is take the base which you can see
2:47 comes on a metal stand with little rubber feet so that it's not going to
2:50 move it's got a little clip on the back you just drop the monitor right onto the
2:53 base the monitor itself has ah here we
2:57 go it has tilt adjust M but no other
3:01 adjustments so you're not you don't have any pivot or any swivel or anything like
3:05 that but let's have a look at the overall uh back of the monitor so I've
3:10 already got a couple things plugged into this one but you can see we've got a
3:14 pretty good a fair number of options for input so we've got VGA in as well as DVI
3:20 in so that's the one that I'm using DVI dual link and then we have HDMI in so
3:24 you can use any one of those three then we have one audio outport as well as the
3:29 power in the back also features a Vasa Mount so if you are lucky enough or um
3:36 wealthy enough I guess to buy three of these monitors you can also have the
3:41 option of buying a triple armed stand so
3:45 that rather than having them all sitting on their little stands here you can actually just have one stand on the
3:49 center monitor have an ARM reaching out to mount each of the monitors on their
3:54 sides I don't actually have the benefit of one of those unfortunately but that
3:58 would be a very very cool way to mount these monitors in terms of the onscreen
4:02 display but the onscreen display is controlled by the power button here as
4:06 well as 1 2 3 four five buttons positioned just under the monitor they
4:10 are a little bit recessed and maybe I can lean this back so you can have a look y there they are so five buttons
4:15 indicated by little dots so you can find them quite easily and other than that I
4:20 mean really what I what I like most about this monitor personally is the
4:24 Striking styling so it's got see this is
4:27 how it's done right actually I want to sort of harp on this a little bit you
4:31 see so many companies releasing LCD monitors that have like a a black and
4:37 some color they're adding like some kind of a a design element to the bezel and
4:42 while I appreciate sort of a style and
4:45 uh and a bit of flare put into a product
4:48 I like it somewhere where I can ignore it or even cover it up if I don't like
4:52 it so while I do like the orange accents on this monitor particularly actually
4:57 here I want to show you the base here this one is actually made of metal here
5:00 it's got kind of a brush looking finish on it it's quite shiny looks great these
5:04 ones are plastic but they still look all right too I could just paint over these
5:09 if I felt like it and then it becomes a black monitor whereas a lot of the time
5:12 you're not really left with the option of covering it up somehow if you don't
5:16 like it so I really like that about this monitor I think one thing I haven't
5:20 mentioned yet is that it has a 2 millisecond response time and that's
5:23 part of what enables it to refresh the image completely every 120 times per
5:28 second so please stay tuned on my video blog I'm going to be doing lots more
5:33 updates on these monitors as well as NVIDIA surround gaming without 3D and
5:38 then additionally with NVIDIA surround gaming with 3D so thank you for checking
5:42 out my video blog don't forget to subscribe and that's all for now
