0:02 oh okay my friends and also my enemies
0:06 there's nothing i can do to prevent you guys from tuning in yeah that's true
0:11 you could prevent them from talking in the chat i can make them watch me eat because i
0:15 haven't had a chance to have lunch today a lot of people are going to complain about that i know people don't like it
0:20 when you eat which is why i'm only going to take one bite so that i can generate the complaints
0:25 but i'm not actually being that terrible of a person oh so okay can you explain
0:29 to me why it's terrible though i've actually never understood because
0:33 okay yeah but if you avoid that
0:38 you just made it so much worse
0:42 so much incredibly worth it oh boy all right yeah we got a great show for you
0:46 guys today my chrome's frozen because it's a piece of garbage and uh otherwise
0:50 i would tell you what uh what we have for you oh there was a long
0:54 lost starcraft gold source code that was
0:57 found apparently this source code disk was lost so they had to start on
1:01 starcraft from scratch and the reward that the guy got for finding it is like
1:06 junk tier yeah i know right a lot of the
1:10 topics are like handsomely rewarded i'm like not at all wow yeah more like got
1:15 fisted yeah a little bit not cool okay
1:19 speaking about getting fisted you could come to ltx 2017 which is a Linus tech
1:25 tips meetup that we are hosting locally which should be super fun
1:31 if you enjoy certain matters so we'll talk more about that later uh we're
1:35 gonna address the LTT thousand dollar build guide that
1:40 some of you are feeling kind of fisted about wow this is
1:45 becoming a bit of a common theme yeah and um finally AMD fisting their
1:50 customers yes by making money from their drivers
1:56 yeah all right so we'll get to that and more at 11.
2:03 there's a little asterisk after the 11 and it's like 11 is
2:07 whatever time you are watching yeah that's right
2:10 but like later than that
2:14 because we haven't started yet
2:17 oh okay who are the sponsors today
2:25 live and using the code now instead of waiting
2:30 for the integration and backblaze we have a new sponsor today
2:35 that's fun yes my friends we do all right so let's go ahead and go back to
2:40 us and i'm gonna try and wow what the heck my chrome is so broken
2:48 what am i supposed to do uh i can post the topics in the chat you
2:53 can get the links from the chat wow i guess that doesn't
2:57 wow what the crap on firefox do it no
3:02 it's not
3:06 i would if it was going to be better
3:10 but it won't be oh that's just my personal stuff
3:15 don't worry about it he saw my uh my secret tab of
3:20 quad socket motherboards that i like to look at late at night
3:28 um is it working now are you good yeah i think i've closed enough of enough of my
3:33 tabs you know so the the gram 14 doesn't
3:36 have a 16 oh gram 14 doesn't have a 16 gig skew
3:40 available even though it just has a sodium slot so what i was planning to do
3:44 was take the gram 15 and the gram 14 swap the sodims
3:48 and then kind of you know whistle and walk away kind of thing yeah um because
3:52 i really like the 14. i don't need the number pad and i i find the screens big
3:56 enough this is what i've been using as my daily driver lately actually
4:00 um but i've just been lazy what what is
4:03 this what oh it says i'm angry about video games oh okay okay okay i thought you i
4:08 thought it was a lead-in to no it's not not having enough RAM for all my
4:14 okay all right all right
4:17 what do we want to start with which which which is the most important
4:22 fisting or we can talk about AMD so people are like wow that's crazy and
4:27 then we can talk about ltx and so people won't be as upset about about us
4:31 screwing them yeah but i love it okay so
4:35 you gotta you gotta take this post with a grain of salt because
4:39 zemul bless his or her heart i don't know if zemul is a dude or a gal um but
4:44 gmail is not probably the world's most objective
4:50 observer when it comes to AMD and Intel
4:54 um it's kind of like expecting good bites on the forum to say something
4:59 anti-microscopic yeah yeah we're not calling you guys fanboys
5:05 because we don't know if you're male
5:11 we never have to worry about microsoft news showing up on the forum though
5:14 because it will always be there any good bites will make sure that it is there
5:19 that's right yeah so we appreciate actually all the anti-mike are all the
5:24 anti-AMD and pro Intel news and pro microsoft news that we can rest assured
5:30 we'll make it into the tech news section of the forum
5:33 all right so the original article here is actually from tech powerup and in a
5:39 nutshell what it appears
5:42 as though AMD is doing in that when you install their 17.4.4
5:48 driver it appears that
5:52 with a bitly so hold on we did talk about this last week yeah so there's a
5:56 quake champion you did yes i thought james told you that he came
6:00 downstairs and asked me he's like did you talk about this last week and i was
6:03 like yes and he was like okay because Linus wants it in the thing and i was
6:06 like
6:10 we totally why do we even why do you know what forget it no i quit
6:14 no i'm not doing this podcast anymore all right well if you want to see Linus
6:19 in person so that he can go okay you know what i quit in person
6:23 but no i want to talk i want to talk about this okay i want to talk about
6:26 this because because i'm mad
6:29 oh this is dumb yeah i think they stopped it oh they did i'm pretty sure
6:35 okay then i'm over it all right fine let's talk about
6:38 something else i'm not 100 sure but i'm i am pretty sure there's like almost no
6:42 notes so but i if i remember from last week they were like oh wow we didn't realize how
6:48 much you guys would care if we were ridiculously annoying and put bloatware
6:51 on your computer right and then they pulled it i think that's what happened all right
6:56 let's talk about ltx so basically if you
7:00 were thinking to yourself gee these guys aren't annoying enough over
7:05 the internet i would need to be annoyed in person and
7:08 you need you need to have taran explain about macros and hotkeys in person
7:14 than this is the event for you are we
7:18 doing the dunk tank thing i have no idea
7:22 so basically it's kind of this half baked
7:25 um oh wow sort of con really selling it right now well okay okay okay okay okay
7:30 do you want me to okay so do you want me to talk about the half-baked stuff first or the cool stuff first
7:36 i mean let's get the half-baked out of the way okay we started so it's
7:39 half-baked in the sense that it's two months away and we haven't actually
7:44 locked down a single sponsor for the event yet okay
7:47 um because the idea behind it we're actually rent so so there's there's not
7:52 half-baked stuff we are actually renting an arena
7:56 so and as far as i've heard yep there will
8:00 be a small sized kiddie pool without
8:04 anything in it and a ball pit so we'll be at least that good there
8:08 will be at least that okay and it'll be in an arena yeah some people will
8:12 recognize that um but like the arena is really expensive
8:15 so in addition to admission and we actually can't even fit that many people
8:20 um we're limited to somewhere in the neighborhood of like yeah there you go
8:24 so just over a thousand people um because we can't really use because
8:29 it's in like a stadium so we can't really use any of the
8:32 seating because there's nothing that you would really sit there and watch yeah
8:35 yeah like me like maybe we could have a few rows out if people just want to go
8:38 sit down but like that's not the idea and there's but and there's also going
8:41 to be like like potentially maybe
8:44 like a lounge that you could do that okay yeah yeah yeah um but but basically
8:49 it would be like the size of a hockey rink down at the bottom of what is
8:53 actually a hockey rink if this was so
8:56 if it's not ready and we don't have sponsors and stuff yet yeah
9:00 why wouldn't we have just pushed it out um because we want to do it in the
9:04 summer and also if we didn't set a deadline
9:08 if we didn't set a deadline we'd just never do it that's also fair yeah so we
9:12 decided to set a deadline are we doing this
9:15 that will almost definitely happen so what is so so the the question burning
9:21 in everyone's minds is probably what is a tech carnival
9:25 yeah it's a cross between a con
9:29 like a uh convention i was thinking i had conference popping into my head for some
9:34 reason it was not a conference Colton run says so it's a combination between a
9:39 convention oh yeah we also have meet up in there so
9:42 to see meet up it's a convention it's a meet-up
9:46 it's a carnival yeah so it's the vision
9:49 is this we wanted to do something that's a little bit different
9:53 and so i kind of went you know what was fun when i was a kid
9:56 carnivals the school carnival the fundraiser carnival the school okay yeah
10:01 those actually yeah they were it would be like stupid like gambling games but
10:06 not for actual money you just get like so we do whatever those but themed to
10:10 computer stuff so the idea is that every manufacturer
10:14 who wants to partner with us to sponsor a booth they don't actually have to pay
10:18 a ton of money like in the grand scheme of things compared to what they would be
10:21 accustomed to for a convention like booth space because the booths aren't
10:25 going to be that like amazing or anything they're just going to be
10:29 centered around these carnival ideas so
10:33 some of the ideas we have is we want some kind of a gaming manufacturer to
10:36 come in and equip ed and a competitor of
10:41 who presumably would wait in line to take
10:44 him on and you have to beat at it cs go yeah
10:47 and there might be some kind of a leader it's gonna be hard he's good or it would enter you into some kind of a draw in
10:52 order to have a chance to win something really cool that would be provided by that manufacturer
10:57 other ideas include things like we want a case guy to come in and with how many
11:01 cool people there are in the case industry we're pretty sure this is not
11:04 going to be a problem but we want a case guy to come in and sponsor the case toss
11:09 so again it would be like a leaderboard type thing and we take maybe the top
11:13 five people throughout the course of the day obviously it's the kind of thing that
11:16 would be pretty funny to watch is people taking computer cases and basically shot
11:22 putting them as far as they can yeah so the idea is just good kind of pure fun
11:27 goofing around maybe there'll also be some demos and
11:31 some cool tech like that case manufacturer might bring a couple to not
11:34 throw so you could maybe look at their latest cases maybe yeah um and then the
11:39 LMG staff all of us i believe we've called like an
11:43 all hands on deck thing one that's not gonna make it well the one that doesn't
11:47 work here oh oh um i don't know so also he might
11:51 okay so most Linus media group staff will be there so if you wanted to i mean
11:56 honestly one of the ideas for a booth that i was honestly thinking of was
12:01 taren tutoring people in premiere
12:05 i could totally like if i went to a convention i would definitely stop by
12:08 there i don't know if i'd stay there the whole time because i'd be like wow i want to go do other things eventually
12:13 but like yeah but like
12:16 but like if you could do like like a like a three-hour thing
12:21 or and like take questions every like half an hour or something or one idea i
12:25 had was he could actually be editing an LTT video throughout the day and you
12:28 could just ask questions and you could just ask questions and we wouldn't expect him to necessarily even finish it
12:32 that day because he'd be interrupted constantly yeah but that was another
12:35 thing that i thought might be kind of like a cool behind the scenes thing that
12:38 would otherwise be impossible to experience yeah so i would i would like that i think
12:42 that's cool that's the tech carnival
12:46 it's 30 bucks for a pass and then 75 if
12:50 you want a special edition lanyard a t-shirt and
12:54 a six-month Floatplane club membership for one week of early access oh i don't
12:59 have that screen shared um oh those are communities oh these are
13:02 canadian dollars um so yeah so that's basically like 22 us
13:08 dollars or something like that and then like 60 bucks 60 bucks u.s um and that's
13:13 actually a pretty good deal if you were gonna get Floatplane anyway because it's three bucks a month times six is
13:18 eighteen dollars a t-shirt i don't know what's that worth twenty bucks anyway we
13:22 we think the uh the big package
13:26 we think the big package is kind of the one to go for so there you go that's the explanation
13:30 um i'm gonna go look at twitch chat i'm like cringing because i'm pretty sure
13:35 hey Colton have we even sold any tickets yet yeah
13:39 Colton we have where'd he go oh he went upstairs but we have sold
13:43 tickets oh we have i know roughly how many but i don't know if we want to say
13:46 that or not sure yeah why not about 100 oh really yeah when i don't know oh
13:51 within the time the video went up and now oh cause we posted oh we posted it
13:55 on social and uh
13:58 yeah uh ticket sales how are we doing is anyone coming yeah there's like 100 150
14:04 150 now yeah oh so people are coming then yeah yeah well
14:09 how many of the really big one have we sold the the 500 vip experience
14:14 we might be getting trolled but oh we think we're getting trolled on that one
14:19 okay okay that's cool go figure so every time
14:23 that we've done one of these things like with the first blood campaign way back in the day and with the forum badges
14:28 that were like custom form badges um we've always had a
14:33 every single time exactly 500 tier that was just like ridiculous we didn't
14:37 really the first time especially we really didn't expect anyone to buy it
14:41 and for some reason someone does
14:44 every time every time so we were like okay sure this time though we were
14:48 trying to come up with something that's a little bit cooler than like um
14:51 i mean the custom badge is actually like
14:54 like that's pretty badass and you can't get them anymore so people
14:58 that do happen to have them are like they're the only ones who can get them so that's all like cool but we were
15:02 thinking if you're gonna be all the way out here uh this time that package
15:06 includes a limo ride to the office and uh and a one-on-one well one on 10 i
15:11 guess depending how many people get it there's maximum a tour yeah maximum 10.
15:15 yeah so that i think that's pretty nifty
15:19 i don't know i mean you work here every day i'm sure you wouldn't pay for it but you know i wouldn't have paid for it
15:22 anyways because i'm really cheap it's yeah i might get the one with the shirt
15:28 because i like commemorative shirts i have a few packs shirts you get a lanyard too yeah all right
15:34 anyway you know what i i'd i mean i
15:37 i never know what's going on around here anymore like i don't even know how to
15:41 check how many tickets are sold but ltx
15:45 good idea or bad idea
15:49 okay so we're going full animaniacs here okay those are the only options wow are
15:54 we abandoning turnip it's been a long time we're abandoning
15:57 turnip okay yeah i'm over it r.i.p turnip rip turn it turn up yeah turn
16:02 up's not funny anymore now that there's one in the uh sorry yeah i forgot what i
16:05 was talking about yeah okay so let's go ahead get those results up and move on
16:09 to our next news topic
16:14 okay AMD's stock price falls more than
16:19 20 in a single day you know you know how close i was to investing in AMD
16:24 when i saw how good ryzen was going to be well maybe now you should well no
16:29 because i was worried about a couple things so number one
16:33 is i wasn't sure if that's insider information yeah i don't know yeah
16:37 because it's under embargo so even though it's not like
16:42 that much of a secret there were like 400 people in the room with me
16:46 i'm not sure if that's still considered insider so i guess so if there's an nda
16:51 probably sketchy so but but what i could do is i could wait till the embargo is
16:56 lifted then it's common knowledge and then i
16:59 could just with superhuman speed i could i could buy AMD stock like the second so
17:03 so i could skirt around that but the other concern was that i've avoided
17:08 owning shares in any tech company
17:12 this whole time the entire time that since we've been independent yeah so i
17:16 did buy shares in NVIDIA once and i held them for a couple of months actually
17:20 made like a pretty good chunk of money but that wasn't based on a significant
17:24 tip or anything it was just based on kind of like the ebb and flow and i was
17:27 like yeah i really couldn't go any lower and then i did okay and i got out
17:31 because it stresses me out yeah and then i made a few bucks on ocz back when they
17:36 were like going gangbusters and i was like okay
17:39 i'll go in for and i was in for like three weeks
17:42 that's it i that's all i've ever gotten involved
17:47 in but the thing is like i i worry
17:51 that even if i disclosed it the number of people who think that i am
17:56 that i can be that i can be bought and that i can be biased by a graphics card
18:01 i mean imagine what they would think if i owned shares in the company the one
18:05 thing that i was thinking was that i could get around it by buying
18:10 everything
18:13 and just hopefully the tech industry just goes up yes yeah so if i'm just
18:18 betting on tech but then then okay you'd get the tinfoil
18:22 hats coming in there he's just talking about how amazing tech
18:25 is because it makes some money if the tech industry grows
18:29 so i've just been like you know what uh as as far as as far as high profile
18:34 companies go anyway i'm just not going to get involved but that doesn't mean
18:38 that i might not make some kind of investment in a tech company and that's
18:42 actually something that would be like a private thing that i might
18:46 might be closing soon so i would definitely be talking to you guys about
18:50 anyway shares of AMD plunged on tuesday
18:53 following a first quarter report that failed to justify the stocks 300 gain
18:58 last year whoops uh AMD reported strong results
19:02 that were in line with expectations but uh
19:06 like that's the thing is like they still lost money like what were
19:10 people expecting were they expecting AMD to go from losing what was it like 73
19:14 million in the last quarter last q one and then
19:17 they lost 29 million this time which is like a lot
19:22 better but were you expecting them to go from losing 73 million to being profitable
19:26 um but only losing
19:31 29 million dollars is still insane
19:36 well yes like oh yeah um
19:40 so there's still hope though ryzen processors had only been shipping
19:45 for one month of the quarter and vega is also slated for release sometime in q2.
19:51 naples that's where we might actually see some significant improvements if
19:57 they managed to win some big bids with naples and they managed to
20:02 uh get some design wins and like super computers or whatever the case may be
20:07 that could be a big deal and then ryzen 3 processors are also
20:12 slated for the second half of the year which could help boost up volumes
20:15 significantly because value chips that is where you are going
20:19 to be shifting units speaking of super computers i'm doing an unboxing
20:25 of a super computer next week adoring i
20:29 don't i don't know what to call it but basically this place is bananas what's
20:34 up that thing am i going not that one we're going to that one okay so we're also trying this
20:39 isn't confirmed yet they've expressed interest and they're like yeah yeah
20:43 let's do it and then like it's the all this the whole yes do it radio silence
20:47 yeah yeah but like they're into it um
20:50 but luke and i wanna go tour
20:54 um it turns out that d-wave the quantum
20:57 computer maker the the quantum computer manufacturer is based out of burnaby
21:03 british columbia yeah they're like not even a remotely far drive away no it's
21:07 like 30 minutes like i used to live there yeah um so so we've talked to them
21:12 about doing like a hands-on yeah with a quantum computer that would be pretty
21:16 cool that would be really exciting it would be dope as the kids say ah yes
21:22 dank even dank no i thought dank is bad
21:25 aren't dank memes like outdated memes no
21:28 dank memes are like super good memes
21:32 dope and dank are both good and face palm is still face pump's still
21:37 cool okay yeah so face bomb and
21:40 so much hate so much hate is getting a little old
21:43 yeah i know i know but i can say shake my head so smh is
21:47 still okay i just have to think it doesn't mean so much hate yeah
21:50 got it no problem i'm on this i'm trying to i'm trying to keep on top of it i've
21:54 got the star wars memes prequel memes i'm on top of that
22:00 good job oh you're officially the worst sidekick
22:04 ever most of them are like hello there
22:07 kenobi from grievous don't worry about it it's
22:10 fine it's fine fine fine all right the red ARM epidemic i sent out the okay i'm
22:15 gonna i'm gonna off shoot for a second here sure i sent out the like emails to
22:19 the people that were graded very highly for their resumes and stuff for the full
22:23 playing club applications and
22:26 you've got to be kidding i was reading a comment on your call for
22:31 coder's video that said that this platform is a
22:36 disaster waiting to happen and no one would be stupid enough to apply oh
22:40 there was a lot of those um one people applied you've got to be kidding me a
22:44 lot of people are fine that a huge amount of people applied it took me a
22:48 really long time to go through all their resumes um there's a lot of misconceptions as to
22:52 like how we were building the platform a lot of people think that we're doing literally every single thing in node
22:58 which is like extremely untrue i got people sending me like entire essays on
23:02 how we shouldn't be transcoding video with node and i'm like
23:08 we actually already have that part working don't know where you got that
23:11 from we're not doing that i don't i don't know uh but yeah there's a lot of
23:16 applicants a lot of really good apps there's also a lot of people telling us that we're crazy to be trying
23:21 to build okay hold on hold on hold on hold on
23:24 to be trying to build this project with one developer
23:28 yeah and i loved that you were getting labeled idea guy
23:32 yeah what's it called is called an idea man right where you have where you have like the
23:37 idea for the next great social media platform
23:41 only you don't know any coding okay so two things number one we don't say
23:46 anywhere in the video we're hiring one person we already have number two we
23:49 don't say anywhere in the video that we don't already have people yes and number
23:53 three he knows how to go a little bit i'm not i'm not as good as the people
23:57 i'm trying to hire that has been made abundantly clear um because some of you
24:00 are extremely good um but i i can do i
24:04 can do something there's more than me let's put it that way yeah i've been taking like refresher courses and stuff
24:08 i'm not going to be the boss guy that doesn't know how to code um
24:14 i still i get i get a little embarrassed by boiler sometimes when he's like okay
24:19 this is how this works and we're just like oh geez um but yeah i'm i'm gonna
24:23 be taking more refresher courses and stuff we have mr boiler cat boiler on the forums i'm
24:28 gonna call him mr boiler because catwaller is like a little awful a
24:31 little bit weird um he's a full-time employee has been for a while now he's
24:35 been working on the project for like a little bit more than six months
24:40 so it's been some work going on there yeah that's another thing you guys uh
24:44 you you guys you guys won't be able to launch this for a year and a half well
24:48 okay we're a third of the way there sounds good
24:51 we're working on it um there's there's other guys as well colonel mortis from
24:55 the forum has been helping a bunch and is going to be helping more in a little
24:58 bit from now i actually haven't sent a reply to that message but yes sounds
25:02 good there you go we'll send a more formal reply later um and there's like a
25:07 couple other people that have been putting a lot of work into this there's also another guy that we're gonna be
25:11 putting on contract very soon for like a while and hopefully making him an
25:15 employee at some point and like you are not alone yeah so yeah it's
25:20 going to be which was again infuriating and sort of hilarious because in the
25:24 video i'm like you're going to have to work with these people this whole list of people
25:28 and like why are you only hiring one person like oh my goodness
25:34 this is great this project is very naive this is coming from an experienced coder
25:39 for six years oh man
25:42 six years wow i'm so impressed wow
25:47 okay here's the other thing that people don't really seem to understand what the
25:51 project is this project is already working yes
25:57 people are so concerned because boiler's a god people are so concerned about the
26:02 financial model the project is already really working
26:08 yeah and there's like a lot more that we can
26:12 do we're going to be okay yeah like a lot of people were like genuinely
26:16 concerned that we were going to like god that we were going to take on LMG take
26:20 on youtube that is not the case now we had gone crazy that is not the goal
26:24 oh we want to be like this cool add-on so
26:28 that during these uneasy times of weird ad revenue and
26:33 like issues that people are having with their channels they can have something a
26:37 little bit more stable that they can stand on and still push as hard as
26:41 they've ever pushed to grow their youtube audience because that
26:45 will be no matter what i say or try
26:49 will be their main platform and we want it to be their main platform because the
26:52 more they grow that the more they will hopefully also grow their Floatplane
26:56 audience okay so let's totally change gears and
27:01 i don't know if i'm allowed to do this but i think i'm gonna do it anyway
27:06 uh i need to get a screenshot of that guy saying it's naive i've been i've been screenshotting a lot of people's
27:12 aggressive comments in like a while i can try to look up
27:16 their usernames and go like hey so what do you what do you think okay
27:20 do you guys want to see premiering on the when show oh my
27:25 goodness the trailer have you seen this i have
27:29 seen it i haven't seen it you haven't seen this no no trailer
27:33 okay hold on hold on i just i want to check and make sure the audio is working
27:36 i don't have my headphones here so i just want to make sure i'm on the
27:39 right playback device and everything yeah so theoretically theoretically this is
27:44 working okay all these people will see it before me because i can't even hear it teaser trailer for scrapyard wars
27:50 season five oh my goodness uh hopefully the audio is working
27:56 oh hopefully it's not too loud hopefully i yeah i don't have headphones i have no
28:00 way of knowing well whatever it'll be it'll be uploaded at some point later but here we go here we go here we go
28:15 i wonder what they're saying sorry dude
28:24 wow we look so serious that's the uh six thousand dollar part oh
28:29 yeah we were pretty serial
28:46 the hype is real cool i hope i have no idea wait so we do mention the really
28:52 expensive part well uh we don't explain oh apparently there's no audio
28:57 so everyone's in the same boat everyone's in the same boat as luke okay well you still have to what you still
29:01 have to watch the actual trailer okay okay do you okay okay hold on hold on
29:04 hold on let's hit it with a straw pole hit it with a straw pull do you guys want to
29:08 see it again with sound so why didn't it have sound actually you know what twitch
29:12 chat just let me know do do you want to see it again or like at all
29:18 pre-recorded yes of course okay yeah okay all right all right all
29:22 right all right all right all right all right i get the point i'm working on it okay okay so i'm just gonna throw it in
29:26 the butt the butt is banning everyone
29:36 stop stop spamming okay the audio is going to be the audio is going to be
29:40 kind of crap because i forgot i don't have it set up properly right now but
29:44 i'm just going to hold this up to the microphone and we'll just have to call that good enough okay run away from the
29:48 behind okay i'm sorry everybody i'm sorry everybody okay here we go here we go
29:53 here we go we're going again we're going again
29:57 hold on hold on okay make sure it's on the screen interesting yeah yeah oh no i got this i
30:01 got this i got this i got this okay okay here we go
30:05 oh wait hold on i'll get our ugly mugs out of the way okay
30:09 uh why isn't my trackpad working okay okay
30:12 uh here we go
30:16 honestly the low points of yesterday were probably the first thing
30:20 yeah probably the fight it feels like we haven't done anything
30:23 like we went to leaves and ate sandwiches which was delicious
30:26 i don't regret that kyle has some strategy he's working on right now screw
30:30 you yeah did something good today yeah so it looks like
30:34 about that seems like if we don't have another
30:39 choice we're gonna have to go for it so yeah so we have 45 minutes just get the
30:43 [ __ ] out of here
30:48 oh man
30:53 so they don't know what might have cost us six thousand dollars no they don't um
30:58 yeah so the hype the hype is super real
31:02 i know i'm so excited to hear about this fist fight i know the sound is not that
31:06 great i'm sorry but uh yeah profanity this this season
31:12 is gonna be a lot of fun um we're doing
31:15 it really differently on the post side of things you guys may or may not have
31:20 noticed we filmed like a month ago yeah that was a conscious decision real
31:25 actual like on a show work went into
31:30 mapping out the episodes so the pacing's a little bit better than before um
31:35 and the idea is that the entire season
31:38 will be pretty much cut and then every episode gets a week of
31:43 polish nice instead of like expecting the
31:47 entire episode to be edited in a week yeah cool
31:51 nice that's good that trailer would be very good that's a
31:55 pretty hyped trailer man i know the fist fight i want to see
31:59 i haven't seen the other side yeah i mean either
32:03 i have no idea there's one thing that we know about that i'm not gonna spoiler
32:06 because you guys just got enough spoilers i think um that involves kyle
32:12 that i'm so excited for we've only heard about i know we've only like yeah and
32:18 like oh my goodness i'm as excited to watch this
32:21 even though i partic even though i'll know half the story yeah is it not it's
32:25 crazy yeah all right i'll mix
32:29 i almost spoiled it a little bit okay yeah i'm not excited for it don't spoil
32:32 it the judge okay to watch it i have a crazy i have a crazy thing to ask you
32:39 okay could it be in 4k on Floatplane oh why
32:43 did why did you do that on stream i'm just curious
32:48 um probably not well i'll talk to boiler
32:52 about it but probably not having the downloads
32:57 be in 4k i think would be really brutal gotcha okay um
33:03 i will talk to boiler will he might even be watching right now
33:07 sorry boiler i'm sorry boiler
33:10 um
33:15 i'm going to leave that completely don't okay i thought you're going to do a straw poll no no i'm not doing a straw
33:20 i'll pull this if people want of course they want it even if okay even if there's no 4k drop
33:24 down option the 1080p looks great the 1080p we've
33:28 so all my friends called me they told me flow plane 1080p looks as good or better
33:34 than youtube 4k we have a it's adaptive
33:37 bit rate so like sometimes it it almost always
33:42 looks a noticeable amount better than youtube
33:45 4k but not technically always right depending on like what is going on
33:50 in the video got it yeah all right so
33:53 let's finally get back to that straw poll so okay actually that's interesting
33:58 apparently the majority of our audience does seem
34:03 to think that uh ltx is a good idea now with that said
34:08 only 840 people voted which is really not that many for
34:12 a WAN Show straw pool so if we were to put the youtube video up
34:16 if we were to add yeah it's up if we were to add people who are indifferent
34:21 who would normally vote on a straw poll right and don't then the numbers don't
34:25 look so good
34:29 but i mean realistically yeah but people being indifferent about like pax
34:33 existing is a really high percentage yeah that's true but a really high
34:37 amount of people go mm-hmm yes to be fair it's a very different
34:43 type of convention yep whereas this is more like kind of like a
34:47 casual like bro out and get together
34:50 a thousand people is so a lot of people in chat don't know what ltx is because
34:54 they weren't here at the beginning right ltx is Linus tech
34:58 expo yeah i mean even though it's not called expo yeah
35:02 it's carnival yeah don't worry about it ltc ltc i don't know but then that's a
35:07 really weird i just uh some someone walks into my office and like should we
35:10 call it this i'm like yeah okay fine ah i see so it is a convention
35:15 carnival thing that we're going to be holding very close to here where everyone can
35:20 meet us and do some cool computer related activities and maybe there will
35:24 be some brands there and yada yada and so forth all right speaking i do that to
35:28 john when you're not here oh really yeah i have to do the same thing maybe the
35:33 floor is slanted well i think i think the idea is you're right at the edge of
35:36 the table yeah and so this person naturally like floats to the edge of the
35:40 table right but that's not the right framing all right
35:45 AMD and the original article here is from gamedebate.com
35:50 no it's not in seattle we live in canada it's going to be do we know exactly
35:54 where it is langley event center yeah so it's langley event center in langley if
35:58 you live in like the the lower mainland or greater vancouver area it's pretty
36:02 easy to get to because right off the highway okay
36:05 so allegedly AMD's Radeon rx vega
36:10 specifications leaked in a Linux driver
36:14 update
36:18 all right so this is uh first update adding comprehensive vega feature
36:22 support to Linux that was issued yesterday whenever that yesterday would
36:28 have been so it depends when you're watching this but basically 14 nanometer
36:33 4096 stream processors 12.5 teraflops of performance
36:39 and that's uh 25 at fp16 okay
36:44 64 rops 256 texture mapping units eight hardware
36:49 threads a 20 48 bit memory interface so that
36:53 looks like some kind of hbm nonsense oh yeah there you go eight gigs of hbm two
36:59 okay is this real i don't know maybe maybe
37:03 not but exactly yeah it doesn't sound that far off it
37:07 doesn't sound like one of those leaks that's just like made by an AMD fanboy's gonna have like
37:12 32 gigs remember it's like we saw their announcement at
37:16 nab that is the consumer card yep no um we're still trying to get one
37:22 of those duel cards but i'm still not sure if we're going to be able to
37:25 because it's like not consumer i'm like NVIDIA like it's funny both AMD and
37:30 video are kind of funny about some cards like NVIDIA won't even respond to my
37:33 emails asking if we can borrow a titan xp
37:38 i'm just like you could just say no like and then the conversation ends hit
37:43 him up on facebook oh yeah okay i'll try that yeah okay
37:48 this is great news so the original article here is from nine to five mac i
37:54 love this because how bull crap is it
37:58 when you buy something and it breaks like right away no fault of your own you
38:03 take it to the store or worst yet the manufacturer where they
38:08 have no excuse and they give you a refurbished part
38:12 it's pretty and it's pretty freaking annoying i'd be pissed off personally it's like if i paid
38:18 yeah and it was in great condition and i'm
38:22 someone who cares about my devices and it's this one's got like
38:26 even some small scratches on it okay yes functionally it's probably the
38:32 same and sure i want to talk to anyone who will go nuclear over small scratches
38:40 but i'm not even saying that in insulting way like this this will piss people off example one of them right and
38:44 the thing about apple's devices is they're expensive they're expensive
38:48 enough that like and a lot of times they're show
38:51 pieces so scratch having scratches on it is like well that's right yeah i mean
38:55 it's not a shovel how easy do you think it would be to imagine someone out there
38:59 whose iphone costs more than their car yeah though like i probably know someone
39:06 there you go at one point in time i definitely knew something and and the
39:10 way people would freak out about a scratch on a car remember
39:13 okay i think as techies we get really
39:16 caught up in specs sometimes
39:19 and how much RAM the iphone has and how
39:22 big the screen is and whatever else and we lose track that for the mainstream
39:27 consumer it is a fairly normal thing
39:30 to spend a lot of money on stuff for the sake of demonstrating to the people
39:35 around you that you could have afforded to spend a lot of money on something
39:39 at case in point yeezys okay yeah i didn't even i i
39:44 didn't even hear about yeezys till like three months ago
39:47 yeah i had no idea they were a thing i had even i had even skimmed over the
39:52 what's inside yeezys video that got them so much hate and i
39:57 was just like yeah i'm not okay not interested like i
40:00 just kind of went by it i was like oh that's got a lot of views i'm like yeah
40:04 whatever and what i discovered
40:07 is that like my badminton group there's multiple people there
40:12 that buy yeezys used like they'll like they'll be
40:16 trolling the used market for yeezys buying them for like four hundred
40:20 dollars like keeping them in like as good condition
40:24 as they bought them in and then selling them for like a bit more like they're
40:29 they're like they're like turning a small profit on
40:32 their yeezys so they can afford the yeezy lifestyle
40:37 and i'm kind of sitting here like what
40:40 what what my shoes cost like a hundred dollars have four places in each shoe in
40:46 the identical spot on each shoe where there is very large significant rips
40:50 okay and i'm not going to replace them
40:55 that's not going to happen how many times do you think i've replaced my
40:58 sandals since you met me i think once
41:02 and it was because like they were in critical damage yeah they came apart yes
41:06 and want to hear something really crazy i still have those
41:11 they sit by the back door so i have shoes to throw on when i go outside the
41:15 white runners that i had when we first started working together are i think in
41:19 the front of this office as like just in case Channel Super Fun shoes nice yeah
41:23 yeah see that is the way to be all right speaking
41:28 of dirty dirty people we are going to
41:31 jump into our uh oh anyway sorry we never actually talked about this
41:35 so a dutch court rules that apple cannot supply refurbished or remanufactured
41:39 ipads um as warranty replacements so when
41:43 someone in the chat is what the bleep is a yeezy
41:49 you're the winner there you go um okay so apple refurbished products
41:53 are ones that have been sold and later returned to the company they are returned to as new standard and given
41:59 the same warranty as brand new devices
42:03 and they are either used for warranty replacements or made available for sale the typical discount of around 14 to 15
42:08 percent remanufactured are newly manufactured
42:11 but may include used parts harvested from broken ones so neither of them are
42:16 considered okay now there are multiple angles on this
42:20 there's kind of an environmental perspective i guess but personally i
42:24 don't really buy that you know apple is protecting the
42:27 environment by giving remanufactured devices for more
42:32 of them at a 15 discount because a lot of it is the the status symbol or maybe
42:36 drop your discount a little more yeah 20 if apple was like look this is
42:41 remanufactured 50 off they wouldn't be able to keep them in stock so it's not a
42:46 matter of like they're you know they would have to manufacture more ipads and
42:50 destroy the earth it's just a matter of them not wanting to do it yeah
42:53 um okay i do want to do our response yeah
42:57 someone in the chat said just put a case on it and like i agree spend 15 less and
43:01 get a case on it or buy it new have it break
43:05 not your fault and get a new one again but you got to understand that not
43:08 everybody feels that way some people are gonna want to rock a naked red or jet
43:12 black iphone to show that they've got the red one or the jet black one
43:17 people probably don't pose like this with the jet black one it's probably more like
43:21 probably businessy stuff yeah yeah yeah
43:24 yeah you got it what is it steel panther or something
43:29 i don't know what that's called steel panther it's from some movie where the
43:32 guy is like a model and he has this like pose that he strikes oh but then he he
43:37 gets like a whole bunch of different poses and calls them all different things but they're actually just the
43:41 same thing oh i see it's just this like way that he looks at the camera it's
43:45 fantastic all right so blue steel someone in the
43:49 chat said it there we go steel steel yeah all right sponsor number one fiverr
43:54 whoops i got a black screen there so the first 300 viewers move now before i
43:58 even tell you what fiverr is first 300 viewers get 20 off fiverr
44:04 using offer code Linus how many times am i gonna have to tell those guys to stop
44:07 using offer code Linus it's supposed to be offer code LTT what if i wasn't here
44:11 what if i died it happens and he had to no that doesn't happen no i mean not
44:16 being you not being here happens yeah it's like that it's like if you walk
44:20 into work one day with an it happens shirt and you'll be like whoa i'm out
44:26 what's happening no no no no no no i want nothing to do with any of this
44:31 okay so fiverr is a huge digital marketplace where talented freelancers
44:35 startups and small businesses can connect and
44:38 i see i don't get it it's in my brand talking points so i'm not sure if i'm
44:42 allowed to say it
44:46 oh get [ __ ] done yeah i mean i guess i can
44:49 say that during a sponsor integration if that's right in my brand's provided
44:53 talking point youtube will pull the monetization on the video oh balls but
44:56 then you get the sponsorship which is like what a lot of people on youtube are
45:00 moving so it's like [ __ ] balls yeah okay perfect i wonder if i'm allowed to say
45:04 that well we'll find out so whether you're a startup or a small
45:08 company and you need a logo or business plan or an entire website developed for
45:12 you fiverr has the talent to get it done at a price that fits your budget so you
45:15 search through over 150 categories of services and you can actually like
45:19 narrow it down by timeline and budget and other constraints and then you are
45:24 paired with a talented professional freelancer or you know maybe one that
45:28 sucks but usually there's lots of options so you kind of pick the one that seems talented and professional
45:32 and then they help you out with it so you can check out some of the gigs that
45:36 we'd use through the landing page at the link below
45:40 which is uh yes here good i'm going to drop that in the twitch chat and the
45:43 first 300 viewers get 20 off fiverr
45:46 services bippity boppity boom
45:51 all right and i just ruined everything here all right
45:55 and we have a new sponsor on the show
45:58 today visit backblaze.com when and start a free
46:04 trial to back up your files today so backblaze is all about backing up your
46:09 files to the cloud on te cheap
46:13 unlimited cloud backup for macs and pcs for just five bucks a month they back up
46:18 movies music photos videos documents and
46:21 projects which it's fairly like and whatever else yeah if it's a digital
46:26 file they back it up you can access your data
46:30 anywhere in the world on the web or on the go on your phone and you can restore
46:34 just one file or all your files in the event of an issue
46:38 you can even wait what really hold on a second you
46:43 can even restore by mail if you have a complete system failure
46:47 and your internet sucks you can purchase a hard drive with all your data on it
46:52 overnighted via fedex and you can return the drive for a full refund
46:57 that's freaking awesome so they wait they're telling you to
47:00 return drives for full refunds at like to them because they're just gonna go
47:04 throw it back at a server it's brilliant neat because the way their whole thing
47:09 works we've talked about them before we're not huge fans of their driver
47:12 liability reports but we are huge fans of the idea
47:16 of building out a system that is basically so robust and so inexpensive
47:21 for them to build out that drive failures are just
47:25 part of what goes on and it's just resilient enough to resist that so
47:28 they're just going to have like a bazillion drive sitting around and
47:32 they're just going to kind of go look
47:35 there you go copy it send it off to you when it comes back like what do they care it's been shipped they throw it in
47:39 they give it some you know rudimentary tests and boom it's off to the races so
47:43 backblaze is gimmick free there's no additional charges just five bucks a month for full backups and you can learn
47:48 more over at backblaze.com yeah forget the rest of it
47:52 no no forget about that backblaze.com when there we go so check it out and you
47:57 can get a free 15-day trial to just kind of make sure
48:00 that it works for you yeah put into your infrastructure make sure it's all good
48:04 all right so now i've got something pretty excited for pretty excited
48:10 i am pretty excited no it's pretty exciting
48:14 do you want to hit another topic while i try and find the uh the right chat for
48:17 these yahoos
48:22 uh nope moving away from that
48:26 what you got there i just don't know if we're allowed to talk about that uh
48:30 valve limits steam's gifting system without any warning valve has been doing
48:35 things that don't make every single gamer on the planet happy lately which
48:39 is weird valve announced that several changes to steam's gifting system will happen
48:44 before users on steam could purchase a game as a gift and store that copy in
48:48 their inventory for later use when sending games users could either deliver
48:52 the gift directly through steam or attach it to an email through the client
48:56 if you weren't friends with the giftee in the service with the changes you
49:01 cannot store gifts for future use you just when purchasing a game you already
49:05 own you're forced to choose a recipient of the gift at the time when it will be
49:09 delivered so like immediately sending games through email is now impossible
49:13 and it is now possible it is possible however to schedule a game to be
49:16 delivered months in advance which is possibly how people can like pre-order
49:20 things i'm not entirely sure or so you can like pick a gift for someone
49:24 yeah and have it scheduled and have it show up at the right time but it's on
49:27 payment collectors have often used steam's gift inventory to store and
49:31 trade copies of de-listed steam titles that's possibly why this is a thing uh
49:36 these changes will also affect users who trade and sell steam gifts on
49:40 third-party websites that's probably why they're doing it
49:43 gifts you have already stored will not be affected so tell me something
49:48 if you were to buy a steam game for someone else
49:53 would that be an animated gift
49:58 no animated gift i know i got it i got it
50:01 yeah that's right sorry i don't really have anything to contribute to that i mean it
50:04 sucks but i understand why they're doing it yeah so there's
50:08 not really much to say it's just like more hoops to jump through in order to
50:12 give something to someone sucks but i see why they're doing it yeah okay
50:16 is there like is there a reason for so many of you guys have been asking to
50:21 meet the new writers so um i guess i'm kicking you out for
50:26 like five minutes oh i didn't see you i was like but that's only two of them
50:30 yeah no no okay no that's fine so their probation officially ends um
50:36 tomorrow so i've decided that you know
50:40 while it might seem a little cruel
50:44 um normally we don't allow people on camera during their probation because
50:49 you know we don't want you guys to get all attached to them and then we end up kind of axing them so while it might
50:54 seem a little cruel to finally let them meet you and seem as though i am
50:59 validating their futures here as employees
51:03 um to only like ask them the next day i'm
51:06 gonna let them meet you so uh well i was gonna say like if they do bad on the
51:10 show you could still fire them that's true i still have i still have about 36
51:14 hours so uh who's first
51:17 one yes well okay you don't have to be one by one i guess okay well then get get in
51:22 here the framing is only so wide though so you're gonna have to kind of you're gonna have to kind of cram in here
51:28 yeah i would maybe do one by one okay so this is james
51:31 uh james is a uh james is a young man with a okay hold on
51:37 it's a great future ahead of him not at LMG
51:41 why do you look like you're so much taller than me i'm like cold and sized
51:44 on this thing oh because the chair is luke sized
51:47 anyway okay come on in here so tell them about yourself who the hell are you
51:53 well i'm james i'm uh
51:58 i'm the punny guy here i guess i'm the one that makes all the worst
52:02 puns in all the videos you're agreeing
52:07 it's a mantle that i kind of took from you so i wasn't sure that you were going to hand that off i'm i'm totally cool
52:12 with making you the pun king
52:17 not that i would ever not that i would ever want you to feel like i'm punking
52:21 you
52:25 way to punch me below the bell yeah yeah okay so basically uh james has been
52:30 responsible for such recent projects as the lg 5k monitor
52:35 um the sennheiser mic underwater mic the underwater mic
52:39 um an upcoming RGB build guide project
52:42 that we're going to be filming next week oh snap that's going to be dank af i
52:46 thought that was a surprise um oh okay
52:50 people shouldn't be surprised yeah they should be watching for a while admit it
52:54 to yourself yeah what else what else have you even done is that it
52:58 yeah i've only had three videos three assignments the entire time oh crap i've
53:02 been here okay well that's awkward yeah so uh i did the airpods video i did the
53:07 you did not i did oh one of the airpods
53:10 videos cheap airpods alternatives
53:13 i did the digital storm gaming ultra wide
53:17 okay so yeah thanks good job james so you'll see james around more
53:21 at least for the next 36 hours okay Anthony you're up next
53:31 sure oh yeah if you guys have questions for them fire up fire them over to luke
53:34 james isn't actually running away yet maybe they'll all come in so Anthony want to talk about yourself who are you
53:39 you're twitch chat i am Anthony i come from newfoundland and i read about
53:43 things
53:47 that was a good thing
53:50 see this is the result of me giving them like hard word count limits
53:56 they end up they end up losing track of how to communicate in long form
54:02 dang it man okay so what have been some of your favorite projects that you've worked on
54:07 uh as much of a pain as they were the AMD
54:12 releases obviously like the riser release the rx 500 series
54:19 uh really tight deadlines on those but
54:23 we got it out thanks AMD yeah
54:26 so much fun every time an AMD project lands on my
54:30 lap i just know that i'm in for like the next couple of like 24 or 48 hours is
54:35 just gonna be wonderful yeah um also responsible for the highly
54:41 controversial verizon five simulation project
54:45 not the titling of it that was me but the actual data that ended up being
54:50 extremely accurate that was Anthony so
54:53 uh there you go you'll be seeing more of Anthony around now as well maybe even on
54:57 Channel Super Fun since these guys are are officially i mean a few of them have
55:01 appeared already anyway but i kind of turned a blind eye because i was pretty sure they were going to make it but
55:05 you'll see more of Anthony soon and uh all right alex you're up
55:12 or fired keep him or fired okay for everyone so far that is like the only
55:16 thing going on okay can you introduce yourself with your newfie accent because
55:20 it's awesome i don't have a newfie accent i'm not even from there he's
55:23 actually from there okay whatever your eastern canadian accent it's all sounds
55:26 the same to me like what do you mean you did it on the phone during your
55:29 interview don't pretend you can't do it i don't know i don't want to be put on
55:33 the spot like that oh come on your job depends on advancement you
55:38 can't fight i don't know like people are saying that
55:41 he has a crazy accent already anyways really yeah him yeah
55:46 i don't know like like what are you talking about it's like
55:50 okay so this is alex alex who are you
55:53 um i don't know i came from nova scotia
55:57 newfoundland oh my god Colton's coming down
56:01 car
56:05 take me to the bar in your car did they put the bar in your car
56:09 i don't get it but anyway uh
56:12 what what are they saying they want to know if you race nascar but that actually leads well into something that
56:16 you do do yeah i used to build dune buggies and
56:21 stuff and now i'm here i guess i
56:24 i wouldn't say i dropped out of mechanical engineering but i stopped going before i completed it and
56:29 now i'm making youtube videos so
56:32 oh yeah go ahead oh what are you going to say including some of our most
56:36 controversial videos so alex has been responsible for a lot of our system
56:40 stuff including the latest xps 15 the MSI trident their super tiny pc
56:45 and the sketchy heatsink series including
56:49 the most recent effort with the uh the casting and the uh and the 60 of a work
56:54 week of like three employees that got consumed by that by that video
56:59 yeah that um i kind of knew how it was going to turn
57:02 out right from the start if i'm honest oh well that's good honestly that's new
57:07 i no no one told me how that was going to turn out so that's great
57:10 well i don't know like you said that you modeled this off of talk here have you ever watched when they try to do
57:14 something legit
57:21 like would you have preferred that we made something that was like half
57:24 terrible or all the way terrible
57:28 i'm not gonna answer that question because i'm afraid of what i'm gonna end
57:32 up with in the future um alex was also responsible for our
57:36 most controversial video other than the uh the ryzen simulation one in the last
57:41 little while the thousand dollar build guide that went up the other night oh a
57:46 lot of people didn't like your part selections there
57:49 no comment so basically what i'll say is this um we
57:54 knew that that build wasn't perfect because right at the time that we were
57:58 like okay we need to get build guides back on the rails and we like got a
58:03 thousand dollar build guide going AMD dropped the news on us that ryzen 5 was
58:07 like coming but it was so far out that we already had some stuff like coming in
58:12 for the build guide and so it was too far to stretch it out and then
58:16 working with these guys and traveling so much has been really busy we didn't get
58:19 it shot until like by the time we got it shot
58:25 the 580 was not out
58:29 but was about to be announced to us we didn't know it was
58:33 coming yet um and ryzen 5
58:37 probably was gonna make more sense but it was too late
58:41 um yeah the selections for that were picked in like
58:46 january pretty much um well no it was after that because it was after you
58:50 started so it was like march like early march late february or something like
58:54 that so the reality of it is could we have done
58:58 better yes but i also think that a lot of the hate was undeserved we had one
59:02 thousand dollar budget build guide in the title that meant one thousand dollar
59:06 budget not one thousand dollar
59:09 budget build guide we did remove the word budget because i can see where the
59:12 confusion came from but it was a thousand dollar machine and it was a
59:16 thousand dollars based on what we won't do next time but based on
59:21 regular pricing like not the cheapest one we could find
59:25 not taking advantage of mail-in rebates and just like what you could definitely
59:29 build for a thousand dollars yeah the no rebates thing actually adds up fast yeah
59:34 uh the other thing was that by the time we were shooting it
59:38 neither of us was really in a position to go okay
59:41 we're gonna do a build guide it's gonna have ryzen five this platform is rock
59:45 solid but by the time it got edited
59:49 verizon has matured a lot
59:52 yeah so that's what happened there that's why he's not fired thank you alex
59:56 um so luke did you have any questions that people compiled you guys want to
59:59 i'll kind of pile in here and stand here literally literally nothing literally no
60:03 useful questions brilliant thank you everyone
60:07 a lot of people wanted to keep alex and
60:10 then it came out that he was responsible for the thousand dollar build guide and
60:14 then the tone shifted a little bit oh oh okay but then after the explanation i
60:19 think it got a little bit better again okay all right good work all right thank
60:23 you guys cool so you'll see him around as well
60:28 all right so yeah that's basically been what i've
60:31 been up to for the last six months in addition to covering his ass because
60:34 he's been busy creating Floatplane club hooray it is
60:38 actually it has been an exhausting resume like half a year yeah it's
60:43 actually been an exhausting four and a half years is what it's really been yeah
60:47 but um
60:50 yeah that's an entirely separate thing
60:53 all right what else do we have oh there was also by the way i should mention
60:57 there was also a lot of requests for drop and break stuff girl
61:01 oh max max is on vacation so i'm just
61:04 permanent vacation oh wrecked she doesn't know it yet
61:08 that's a little mean no she's just on vacation she she had a pre-booked thing
61:12 and she uh so even though she doesn't technically have vacation time yet we uh
61:15 arranged her to be able to go on her thing cool all right so
61:20 the surface laptop aimed at students wait that was last
61:25 week's news wasn't it uh hold on i thought why is this the source
61:30 for wait what's going on here
61:33 i thought this was uh i thought this was rumors about
61:37 oh no the surface laptop oh yeah okay so it's a 13 and a half inch laptop
61:41 featuring the microsoft three by two aspect ratio it's a pixel sense display
61:47 it's got one usb 3 port mini dp wow would have really preferred to see that
61:51 as a uh as a as a type c usb with with dp it's
61:56 got a headphone jack though so that's a plus magnetic power connector it's 2.76
62:01 pounds so it's pretty darn light and it's got a magnesium body with a fabric
62:05 surface palm rest area that's a terrible idea in theory but uh i we will be
62:10 getting one so i will get my hands on one soon it's available in several
62:14 colors there's some like synth fabrics that might do okay
62:17 yeah i doubt it but the way with the way that like hand oils can burn away
62:23 metal i'm not holding up a lot of hope yeah we'll
62:26 see um the os is the new Windows 10 s
62:30 edition which stands for school and this version of Windows can only run
62:35 Windows store apps so basically um
62:38 enjoy so school so that you don't get to
62:41 learn how to use a lot of really important applications yeah uh Windows
62:45 ask can be converted to Windows 10 pro however okay
62:48 all right the keyboard area is the same felt material from the surface pro it
62:52 also forces you to feel good edge and bing
62:55 well probably unless you um upgrade to pro so specs you can get a core i5 or i7
63:01 u-series processor up to 16 gigs of lpddr3
63:05 up to 512 gigs of storage and it boasts 14 and a half hours of battery life
63:10 starting at 9.99
63:14 okay you're three dollars and you have to use edge and bing
63:18 so your thoughts are not great
63:21 your thoughts are this is not much of a chromebook competitor yeah okay then
63:25 do you have any counter arguments i'm really i okay so there's things that i
63:30 already hate about it um like a laptop
63:33 so with the surface pro the thing about it is that it's a tablet i don't expect
63:37 the keyboard to be used all the time i don't expect it to experience the same
63:40 kind of wear that a laptop would so i accept the fabric on the keyboard
63:45 surface this i'm not sure um this remains to be seen
63:51 so i i at that price i i don't
63:56 personally think that the chromebook is is being threatened in any significant
64:00 way but um Windows store apps like not everyone that goes to school only needs
64:05 to use word like there's some there's some things for
64:08 stem fields that you might want to have apps that probably aren't on the Windows
64:13 store for um so limiting school laptops
64:16 to only the Windows store sounds like limiting school laptops to making money
64:20 not limiting school laptops to school there is one app that i download from
64:24 the Windows store plex
64:28 okay why not the server
64:32 yeah yeah just because that's the plex client for Windows oh yeah you can't
64:37 just go download it not to my knowledge maybe you can but i mean the the Windows
64:41 store one like works fine plex you should let people if you don't already
64:45 yeah you'll let people just download it i could be wrong it's just that i'm not
64:48 it's not a bit that's definitely the easiest one to find so i just i use it
64:52 and it works it works fine with that said i've been having an issue with plex
64:55 where um you know i probably won't get into that
64:59 anyways anyways oh this is good this is
65:02 rich posted by mr meerkat on the forum the original article is from pc gamer
65:06 Intel tells core i7 7700k owners to stop
65:11 overclocking to avoid high temps
65:15 it's like they don't want to be popular yeah so owners of Intel's core i7 7700
65:19 and 7700k processors have been complaining for the past three months of
65:24 unusual temperature increases of
65:27 of up 90 degrees celsius i'm assuming they mean of up to 90 degrees celsius
65:31 and not the temperature increase like the total goes to 90 degrees celsius
65:36 and also that's pretty close to the maximum threshold of 100 degrees and you
65:40 don't really want your processor to run at 90 all the time so basically Intel's response we don't
65:44 recommend running outside the processor specifications like exceeding frequency
65:48 or voltage specifications or removing of the integrated heat spreader i mean it's
65:52 frustrating because like Intel creates this problem for
65:56 themselves by marketing a k unlocked and overclockable CPU and then putting
66:01 insufficient tim on it so
66:06 i don't really feel that bad for them not really a difficult problem to solve
66:10 either yeah well it might be difficult but for
66:13 reasons we might not necessarily understand like it
66:16 it may be difficult to solder that for some reason i don't really know if i
66:22 i said may really really really strong emphasis on
66:25 may yeah well we can't say not you can't say it's not difficult there might be
66:29 something difficult about it yes uh oh this is interesting ultra hd blu-ray
66:35 disc encryption has been crack soared
66:39 so the original poster on the form was herodias and it seems to have come from
66:44 this reddit thread so smurfs 2 is apparently the first
66:48 cracked 4k blu-ray disc um and
66:53 you might be able to get it somewhere i'm not going to spend too much time on
66:56 the slash piracy right this was accomplished by cracking the encryption
67:00 on the drive itself and not through like stripping hdcp
67:06 with capture method which is actually pretty intense wow yeah that's crazy
67:11 yeah so that means you would need a specialized to drive and yeah like it
67:16 also means that you could do it to all of them though okay so
67:20 hit me with this piracy groups
67:25 they care about
67:30 they care about like putting their name on like a release
67:34 yeah and like taking credit for it why like is there's no commercial
67:39 benefit to that right it's rep it's rep
67:43 yeah ah like we did this
67:47 yeah so they wouldn't so so okay so let's say i think hypothetical piracy
67:52 group creates a master drive that can read and and and
67:58 rip any blu-ray so do they actually go
68:01 spend their money to go buy blu-rays to rip them and
68:06 release them for like rep and do they not share their their
68:11 encryption breaking method so other people can load it on their drive so
68:14 they can have all the rep it sort of depends
68:17 uh which group i would assume
68:20 because some groups might be like open source thumpers where they think that
68:24 there shouldn't be any encryption on anything and they want everything to be open so
68:28 in that sense they would open up how they broke the drive sure and then also
68:33 use the drives to break a whole bunch of stuff or they're just like yar har pirates
68:39 and they're like we want to be known as the best freaking pirates ever
68:43 cool okay got it i understand i'm assuming ish these things
68:49 okay let's talk about the uh starcraft source code so this was originally
68:53 posted by rezkovlinkov on the forum and this article on
68:57 mashable gets a couple of things right so
69:01 they've got that there was someone they've got that
69:05 some something was found they've got what it was the original starcraft
69:10 source code and they've got right that blizzard was involved yep there was
69:14 definitely a shower that occurred but it was not gifts
69:18 nope this is actually insane so back in
69:22 2000 a disc containing the starcraft
69:25 source code was stolen from blizzard forcing them to start from scratch
69:30 a month ago a random reddit user chem kemist kimeist
69:35 bought a bunch of blizzard crap on ebay including a disc labeled starcraft
69:39 goldmaster source code chemist handed it to blizzard and
69:43 received hit me with this and i'm gonna okay i'm
69:46 gonna look i'm gonna start as excited as i would be about what kind of reward i
69:51 might say so this is like you taking it out of the box essentially right this is me handing it to you this is me handing
69:56 it to you i'm like well no you're receiving it no no you're
70:00 a blizzard you're you're giving stuff to me oh you're giving me the thing yeah
70:03 i'm giving you the thing i'm like okay i'm amped okay i'm like i'm giving you the box back you start
70:07 opening it at the very top is a copy of overwatch
70:13 then there's some overwatch in diablo swag
70:18 then there's 250 dollars in blizzard store credit
70:25 then there's a free trip to blizzcon and then there's the bottom of the box
70:34 and the box is like thin and not very nice and it's just general gray cardboard
70:39 it's not like a cool one-off branded box
70:42 okay so here's the thing
70:46 the disc was stolen property yes it is the
70:49 property of blizzard and chemist had no business
70:55 no right keeping it yeah but what the disc also was
71:00 was for someone who let's say for example was enough of a blizzard nerd to
71:04 be buying blizzard paraphernalia on ebay
71:08 it was an utterly unique item oh yeah it
71:12 was absolutely an incredibly cool piece of blizzard paraphernalia
71:18 that would have had aside from the monetary value
71:22 incredible sentimental value sentimental value that
71:27 goes way beyond what would you even buy
71:31 with 250 dollars of blizzard store credit some skins skins
71:36 get real okay maybe some months of wow some
71:40 overwatch and diablo swag you couldn't even scrounge up some starcraft swag
71:47 and a trip to blizzcon which is like okay but what he or she should have
71:53 gotten is something utterly
71:56 unique something retro something that
71:59 goes way back to like that weird game blizzard made where you
72:03 like shoot chickens or something or like do you know about that game i don't
72:07 think so that's when i probably heard the name when i saw a blizzard logo on it when i was like it's like ancient
72:12 yeah uh i was like really i used to like one of the really old games lost vikings
72:15 anyway it was a great game what he should have gotten they
72:19 shouldn't have even given him money because i don't we're hurt that's not
72:23 what this was about they're buying this type of stuff that's probably not a huge
72:27 concern it should have been a freaking life-sized golden
72:32 okay like a statue and like a tour yes of their facilities it should have
72:36 been way cooler blizzard
72:40 you done goofed on this one he's a huge starcraft fan if they have any like game
72:44 designers from starcraft like have them meet up with him at blizzard because the
72:47 thing okay thing about these game companies is they have this crap they
72:51 build this crap all the time for cons and stuff like i guarantee you there's a
72:55 life-size carrigan somewhere yeah
72:58 somewhere in blizzard's office there's a life-size carrigan or failing that a hydrolisk or
73:04 something someone in the chat is like they should have released wow legacy servers for his
73:09 efforts that would have been pretty cool yeah if he cared that would have been
73:12 unrelated though yeah so um
73:16 there you go we're disappoint but uh maybe you guys disagree i don't i don't
73:21 think that's even remotely fair like looking at just pure monetary value of
73:25 what he got if he just flipped it on ebay
73:29 okay sorry i'm just i'm cringing so hard at the switch comment i have to i have
73:32 to i'll get into it i'll get into it later go ahead go ahead
73:35 yeah that's the only place golden has ever existed
73:38 um but uh like just pure monetary value of the
73:43 stuff that he got is worth way less than if he just reflipped it on ebay yep
73:48 which is like again again again he should have given it back it was a
73:51 stolen item but like but blizzard just should have recognized the appropriate
73:56 response to this yeah and this is terrible uh so
74:01 pure ownage who must be like old-school internet
74:05 enough to know what pure knowledge is unless you just don't and you just like
74:09 read it somewhere or just put it uh Linus plays wow he knows about gul'Dan
74:18 well Dan's in warcraft orcs and humans yeah gul'Dan's like og warcraft golden's
74:23 like a pretty big deal i mean the lore has changed somewhat
74:29 like gul'Dan's role in everything and like and like the funny thing this is
74:33 what's great about old the movie was weird for that too yeah so if you guys remember i never watched it i don't yeah
74:38 i heard um the thing that's weird about old old games um and warcraft was a
74:42 great example of this where every unit on both sides orcs and humans was
74:46 equivalent so a grunt was exactly
74:49 identical to a footman or i don't even know if they were called
74:53 footmen in warcraft orcs and humans but whatever the spearman was exactly
74:56 identical to the spear thrower um
75:00 or what were they arch whatever it's not the point um the point is the campaigns
75:05 were identical so even though the lore was that the
75:10 orcs like kick their butts
75:14 if you play the human campaign
75:17 i don't does medev even die like
75:20 i don't remember but there's like there's like events that are just not
75:24 right because the missions are identical yeah
75:27 down both paths so i think on the orc side you like
75:32 gul'Dan's gone crazy and you have to go kill him and on the human side yeah
75:36 medev does die on the human side medev goes crazy and you have to kill him it's
75:40 just like totally equivalent stuff but yes no i know see but in orcs and humans they
75:44 didn't read anything out yet you had to uh you had to read the text right there
75:48 wasn't voice acting um oh yeah oh voice acting yeah yeah okay so he's
75:53 saying medivh wrong because of that oh no he doesn't play well oh yeah then
75:58 that furthers your point yeah i only i only know who thank you medivh is from
76:02 warcraft orcs you read it and it looks like medivh yeah sorry
76:09 all right
76:12 there was a couple comments oh reddit says yesterday i got another call they
76:15 invited me to blizzcon all expense paid dinner and drinks with the staff okay
76:18 that's okay i still would have wanted a unique so they probably did that because
76:22 everyone was like what or maybe they planned it let's give
76:25 benefit of the doubt but they still should give him a life-size carrigan i'm
76:29 not going to be happy till he has a life-size caregiver he should be able to like pick
76:33 yeah pretty much whatever character yes life size any character yeah
76:38 all right that's great i love this okay uh matt
76:42 whatever oh king04 you're officially my favorite how young
76:46 is Linus that is the way to ask that question
76:51 and i'm 30 years young thank you old
76:54 and it's such a weird way of saying that i know it's such an insecure like
76:59 way of saying yeah so stupid you say old when you're two so
77:03 you're 10 years old
77:14 this couch uh still exists
77:19 um at the badminton center that i play at
77:23 yeah one of my buddies was like opening up a badminton center when um
77:27 when we moved in here and decided we didn't want the couch yeah he needed a
77:31 couch and funny story he happened to have bought one of that exact couch oh
77:36 wow and was gonna go back and get another one when i was like yo do you need a couch
77:42 that's pretty fantastic sometimes life is funny
