0:00 you don't really do case reviews anymore because well if we're being honest they
0:05 have really changed much lately other
0:08 than some tempered glass here and some RGB there but that's not the case with
0:15 this one this is the Silverstone mammoth mm oh
0:21 one a spectacularly heavy black monstrosity
0:27 whose claim to fame it's been really
0:30 difficult to open the box up is being bust proof and splash proof some things
0:37 are about to get wet
0:41 literally we're gonna spray water on a
0:45 system in this case with an extreme edition processor running inside it but
0:52 you know what we're not gonna spray water on Brandon because he deserves better than
0:57 that even if he did bung up the audio settings the first time we shot this
1:10 Corsairs obsidian 500d mid-tower gaming
1:13 case features premium tempered glass and aluminum construction removable top fan
1:17 trays and more check it out at the link below this thing actually launched all
1:22 the way back in 2015 completely flying under my radar due to
1:28 its unprecedented level of neatness so you
1:32 could think of the mammoth as kind of like the
1:37 off-road edition of what would normally
1:40 be a computer case like designed for use
1:43 in rough conditions oh
1:49 you know it's actually not that crazy
1:52 big but it's really heavy oh my gosh
1:57 that's pretty brutal it is kind of got a plane
2:03 sort of look to it there's no tempered glass that's pretty nice that's magnetic
2:09 yeah the exterior is about as plain black box
2:14 as you can get it sports a brushed steel finish but in the age of tempered glass
2:19 Windows you'd be forgiven for thinking it's a little boring but if you look a
2:23 little closer the entire top of the case is completely filled right so no IO or
2:30 fan holes whatsoever up here to keep
2:33 water from getting in presumably and check out these so this is cool these
2:38 front louvers are not an aesthetic feature instead they actually serve to
2:43 prevent fluids again from getting to the internal components of the PC and
2:48 flipping it around to the back you can see it has the same louvers here with a
2:54 notch at the bottom check that out to
2:58 allow you to get cables to the rear i/o the design of the mammoth gives it an
3:02 impressive IP 43 rating meaning it's
3:05 safe from not just drips like if you were to spill a cup of water onto the
3:10 table next to it but even water sprays
3:13 now I wouldn't recommend pressure washing your computer and gaming at the
3:17 same time but if you left a window open with the sprinkler running your computer
3:22 should be okay it's just the rest of the room I'd be concerned about let's crack
3:27 it open yeah
3:32 here we find the MMO one second party
3:35 trick a full fat 20 millimeter thick HEPA filter now most fan filters are
3:41 pretty good at mitigating dust buildup over the short term but a filter like
3:45 this is SPECT to remove 99.97% of
3:49 particles larger than 0.3 microns that's
3:52 smaller than all but the smallest bacteria so I guess you won't have to
3:57 worry about your PC getting the flu obviously compared to a regular filter
4:01 this one's gonna be a little more restrictive right but it looks like
4:05 Silverstone thought of that because they not only have to push air through one
4:09 just like that but also the HEPA filter and the solution these babies to
4:16 massive 180 millimeter air penetrator
4:20 fans at max speed which you can control with these knobs at the front these move
4:25 a whopping 340 CFM of air about the same as a
4:30 typical pedestal fan at medium pretty darn impressive then to top it off
4:34 there's actually space to install a rear 120 millimeter fan as well so while Jake
4:42 builds up a high-end system for our tests let's get a little bit of
4:46 preparation done
5:20 okay it's done you want to see yeah let's have a look
5:23 alright so there are a few things that stand out
5:29 a lot of cases these days are basically just
5:32 the standard layout with a different
5:35 bezel on the front not so here so first
5:38 of all the layout is inverted so the CPU is on the bottom and the GPU is on top
5:43 second our power supply actually takes a
5:46 page out of 2006's book and is up on the
5:50 top but still with no ventilation that's
5:55 because the whole top was sealed to keep water from getting in so the power
5:59 supply actually has to suck air from the inside then blow it out the back
6:03 fortunately these fans that we showed you guys at the front should keep it
6:08 well supplied with fresh air all take a
6:11 moment here to show you guys this here CPU heatsink support thing so there's
6:16 actually wonderful at the graphics card and the CPU which if you think about the
6:20 applications in this case on let's say something like a boat makes a ton of
6:24 sense cuz if this pcs are rocking you
6:27 don't want your heatsink going and knocking about on the inside
6:33 because of the design of the filtering system nearly 40% of the space inside
6:38 the case is taken up by the filter in the front and the buffer in the rear to
6:43 prevent water from entering the system it does limit your cooling options but
6:48 even with the relatively limited space the MMO one can still fit for dual slot
6:53 graphics cards and easily houses up to an SSI EEE be dual socket motherboard if
6:59 you're willing to limit your storage expansion to two three and a half inch
7:03 drives so this is all good in theory but we want see what kind of thermals we
7:08 might expect with a high-end system in this case so you want to throw the panel
7:11 on there and I'll get a stress test fire it up here it's actually kind of amazing
7:15 how much air these fans move through that HEPA filter yeah I mean they are a
7:21 max speed rather than leave it at these
7:24 settings though like this is quite loud I want to go with not minimum but quiet
7:31 enough that it probably wouldn't bother anyone
7:35 that seems pretty good and we're still getting like quite a bit of airflow back
7:40 here let's give it some time to heat up yeah okay so these are not bad results
7:44 actually GPU is tearing up to 17 80 or
7:48 so at its 82 degree maximum and our CPU has only two cores about sixty degrees
7:54 three not too shabby yeah I mean there's an NHD 15 in there so CPU temperatures
7:59 are probably expected are you ready to run it through the gauntlet yeah let's
8:04 do it all right so we're here we're gonna do the gauntlet lioness is a
8:08 little busy with another video and I definitely am NOT doing this for the
8:12 second time no this has never done this test before oh this looks Turner on get
8:18 these fans to chin so there might be a little bit of dust in there but I kind
8:22 of have an idea of how much was in there beforehand just like throw a little dust
8:26 on there here nice and not nice I guess I don't know I
8:33 really hope we don't have to do this again because I do not have any dust
8:37 left all right so there's actually quite a
8:42 bit of dust up here I'm not really sure how that got in there okay so let's
8:45 let's turn it off this time and see what's going on inside I think for the
8:50 most part it's gonna be pretty decent but I imagine there's going to be some
8:55 leakage all right
8:59 so that is a little more dust than was in
9:04 there before so I don't think this system is perfect but it actually held
9:08 up pretty good regular computer dust is not gonna be an issue for this thing
9:12 maybe don't throw sawdust at it or use it in your woodshop okay so let's see
9:17 how the filters doing oh no that's gross
9:21 oh so the attacked side is pretty
9:26 disgusting but when we flip it over
9:29 pretty damn clean so it looks like a
9:33 little bit of dust got in but I imagine it's probably just from the cracks
9:36 around I don't think dust that big would get through a filter like this
9:40 and then on this side pretty dirty here
9:44 as well alright let's get to the water oh
9:53 my god you think I should spray with a hose - I
9:57 think we should spray it with those alright I
10:02 should probably turn it on before we spray it with the hose
10:08 is it on Oh
10:15 I really hope this survives my test bench actually
10:20 it would be really inconvenient if this died
10:24 I'd be kind of upset to be honest
10:29 there's a little water in there but for the most part it looks like it's dry Wow
10:37 Wow completely dry inside sure there's a
10:41 little water around the edges but inside the computer there's no moisture I think
10:47 we should probably test this before I bring Linus over you know just in case
10:51 it doesn't work display for
10:56 this monitor even plugged in oh my gosh
10:59 oh yeah it works okay let's let's get Linus
11:05 and show them the carnage so to be honest I already opened it
11:09 there is a little bit of dust in there no water no water I sprayed this thing
11:16 down good
11:19 this side is a little beat-up yeah I see
11:23 that Wow but it caught it yeah so yeah
11:27 there's a little bit of dust on the panel there and you can see some of the
11:32 chunks did make it through but I mean
11:35 compared to what you'd see in a normal case
11:39 that is really impressive I think my
11:44 dust abuse is a little out of the ordinary as well yeah no I mean this is
11:47 obviously a torture test but you can see even where the water did manage to
11:52 penetrate the design doesn't allow it to
11:55 go any further than this yeah there's a little splash shield here
11:59 too oh so
12:05 it doesn't have the greatest cooling characteristics out of any case we've
12:10 ever tried but it's utterly unique in its dust and
12:15 water resistant design making it at what
12:19 is it three hundred bucks basically a no-brainer if you need a
12:23 dust and water resistant PC case
