0:00 so today the cameraman's very tired and he'll be sitting in a chair and I'll be
0:04 standing for a change so we're doing a little bit of rule reversal but he won't
0:07 be appearing in front of the camera and I won't be behind it today we have a
0:11 very exciting product to unbox it is a blizzard license product it is made by
0:16 Steel series and it comes with World of
0:20 Warcraft cataclysm branding on it do you
0:23 think you can guess which product it is yes it is finally the updated wow Mouse
0:28 now the original wow Mouse was a fairly similar looking product but the
0:34 improvements that have been made are all really cool so let's start with uh
0:40 opening up we've got a little magnetic clasp here so that's what closes the
0:43 package we've got like a cool sort of packaging on this where it's like burned
0:47 away and then you you know pull it open and you can see there's a bunch more
0:51 information here covered in blizzard artwork of course which is always
0:55 awesome all right develop four World of Warcraft players by blizzard and steel
1:00 series cooperatively The cataclysm MMO gaming mouse invokes the iconic imagery
1:05 of Deathwing the Destroyer leader of the black dragon flight and okay so this is
1:10 just marketing Spiel all right that's not going to tell us too much here we go
1:13 multiplatform compatibility Mac and PC just like uh blizzards games game
1:18 Library official in-game support so you can bind all 14 buttons within the game
1:24 so it's built right into wow support for this mouse Advanced macros with 14 fully
1:29 programmable buttons we have onboard memory to store your
1:32 custom settings Advanced illumination with 16 million colors and four
1:36 intensity settings very cool um the original wow Mouse had like the same
1:40 sort of deal where you could change the color of it and up to 10 unique profiles
1:45 uh linked to the Armory your custom profiles linked to the Armory so I'm
1:48 guessing that's for different characters all right then let's actually have a
1:52 look at the back of the box here and here we go so frames per second that is
1:56 the FPS that can be recorded by the mouse is 11.75 five self adjusting okay
2:01 inches per second is 150 counts per inch
2:04 is 90 to 5040 so the CPI seems to be
2:07 quite a bit higher than the original wow Mouse acceleration true 16bit these are
2:12 all very highly technical specifications I mean you got to understand steel
2:15 Series has been building mice for a long time this is not a Cheesy like wow
2:20 branded product that is just designed to sort of take a cheap Mouse throw a label
2:24 on it and sell a bunch of mice they've actually been building gaming
2:28 peripherals for as long as we've uh we've had awesome professional level
2:33 peripherals so
2:36 um let's see if there's anything else that I want to cover that is uh talked
2:41 about on the back of the box now the software for the original wow mouse was
2:45 pretty good and as far as I know we're using a very similar software layout but
2:50 what I'll have to do is I'll have to update you guys once I have a chance to
2:53 actually use the mouse So today we're going to focus on the physical aspects
2:58 of it so first of all what we have included in the package yeah cameraman
3:02 couldn't care less but it's basically a little thing that tells you to download
3:05 the latest drivers you know oh quick start guide wow okay we might find some
3:09 more info in here it's quite thick which I guess is because there's a lot of
3:13 languages to configure the mouse you launch the gaming mouse software via the
3:16 start menu adjust speed and sensitivity you can program the buttons you can
3:20 adjust the color intensity and pulsation effects so it does have the pulsation
3:24 that the original wamos had you can choose up to 10 profiles with 14
3:28 different buttons and and let me
3:34 see buttons and default settings here we go so here they map out all the
3:39 buttons okay well there's not a whole lot in there actually it is a quick
3:43 start guide all right so let's have a look at the wild mouse itself first
3:46 thing is it's an MMO Mouse so it's all about buttons let's show you guys where
3:50 all of the buttons on this mouse are so we'll start on this side we have 1 2 3 4
3:55 five buttons on the left side so I'm not going to count this one I'll count that
3:59 as a the top button five here next we have 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 eight on the top and
4:10 then finally on this side we have an
4:13 additional one so that is a total of 14
4:17 buttons on this mouse now personally I
4:20 did not find the ergonomics of the original M wow Mouse to be quite to my
4:24 liking it was more of a um more of an
4:28 ambidextrous shape so it wasn't really fitted for our right hand whereas the
4:33 new WoW Mouse the cataclysm Mouse actually borrows a little of the shape
4:37 from my personal favorite Mouse the aari laser so you've got this same shape here
4:42 to rest your two fingers on and then over on the other side the thumb buttons
4:47 are actually in a much better position
4:50 for someone like me to actually reach them the original wow Mouse had some of
4:54 the buttons were a little bit weird like you could kind of accidentally hit one
4:57 when you mean to hit the other cuz they were all on kind of a a single button
5:01 and it was more like a rocker switch and I didn't really like that all that much
5:04 but this is a much much better layout so these are going to be your back and
5:08 forward buttons and Windows and I guess the other ones are mostly intended for
5:11 games use all right so the overall finish of it now this is not quite a
5:15 production sample Mouse uh but this should be pretty close to what we're
5:19 expecting so it's kind of a A Worn armor look finish to the uh to the top of the
5:24 mouse and then this is final so this is a pretty much a steel series staple this
5:29 kind of rubberized uh grippy feeling
5:32 thing okay so let's uh flip the mouse over here we find the steel series
5:36 gaming grade engine as well as nice large slippy pads on the bottom of the
5:40 mouse so it's going to take you a long time to wear those guys out uh we have a
5:45 very nice looking braided oh cameraman wants to see that I guess we have a very
5:48 nice braided cable here so you can see that they're using a very high quality
5:53 sleeving when the cameraman finishes looking at the uh gaming grade engine
5:57 all right so they use a great quality C cable sleeving you can't see through
6:00 that to the cord at all and then we'll have a look at sort of how long it is so
6:05 yeah it's about wow it's actually really long cord and then we've got a
6:11 goldplated USB connector at the end to
6:14 make sure that you're always making good connection between The Mouse and the USB
6:19 port so I'll just show you guys the
6:22 couple more views of the mouse itself cuz it really does look pretty sharp so
6:28 what I want to show you guys in I guess I'll do an upcoming video on this is I
6:31 want to show you guys the driver configuration as well as the uh what it
6:34 looks like with all the lighting effects enabled so don't forget to subscribe to
6:38 Linus Tech tips for follow up on this mouse more unboxings more reviews all
6:43 that kind of good stuff and thank you for watching
