0:00 when you invite an animal as exotic as my oil cooled workstation into your life
0:05 you invite potential problems so while I was extremely disappointed to see that
0:10 spot had left an oil patch on my desk from a leak that formed near the seam in
0:15 the back when the system was roughly handled during our move I knew what I
0:20 was getting into when I built an oil cooled PC so let's make lemons out of
0:27 this life that lemonade something hm oil
0:30 cooled rig maintenance video
0:41 time the master case 5 by Cooler Master gives you the freedom to truly make your
0:45 midtower PC case your own with a variety of modular parts and accessories check
0:50 out the link in the video description to learn more step one is to identify the
0:55 cause of the leak be it a crack or a failed Bond at a joint between two
1:00 pieces of acrylic if it's a very very
1:03 slow leak like mine the temptation to just put a drip pan under it and call it
1:07 a day will be pretty strong but small drips can turn into gallons of oil all
1:12 over your floor very quickly with all of that pressure on them so I recommend
1:16 finding a helper putting your system on a plank that you don't care about and
1:20 moving it to a suitable place for repairs as soon as possible step two is
1:27 to prepare your workspace for the tank itself garbage bags are a cheap
1:31 spillproof cover material for the table and floor where you're working but I'd
1:35 recommend also creating a ridge around the outside of the area Andor pairing
1:41 them with cardboard or newspaper to absorb excess spilled oil in case it
1:46 drips off of the edges of your bags you'll also need a place to put the
1:49 internal computer components my system can hang off of the edge of a large
1:55 collection bin but you might need to come up with your own creative solution
1:58 here whatever it is you do make sure that you've got lots of garbage bags and
2:03 lots of paper towels on hand step three
2:06 lift the system out of the oil we gave
2:10 it a good 60 seconds for oil to drip from the video card power supply and
2:14 heat sink fins before picking it up and
2:17 resting it on a bin to collect the waste oil you can let it go for longer but if
2:22 your plan is to let all the oil come off this way then be prepared to wait for
2:26 literally days at this stage the is
2:30 ready to be emptied or if there's nothing wrong with your tank and you're
2:33 just performing some system maintenance removing stickers with failed adhesive
2:38 swapping out memory sticks Etc then you can do that now step four it's time to
2:44 prepare two basins one for rocks and
2:47 accessories and the other to capture the rest of the oil from the machine if
2:51 you're going to reuse the oil like me then it's a really good idea at this
2:55 point to clean out the container before pouring oil into it mineral oil is a
3:01 great cleaner and solvent in and of itself and will pick up all kinds of
3:05 dust and grime from anything that it touches so unless you want that junk
3:10 floating around in front of your video card do a really good job of this then
3:15 depending on what kind of container you're using a funnel might come in handy here as well something I really
3:20 wish we'd thought of when we originally built this machine so make sure you
3:24 clean that too if you're not planning to
3:27 reuse the oil please contact a local was management Depot or failing that ask an
3:32 automotive shop where they take their oil to be disposed of correctly step
3:37 five pouring the oil out and removing the Rocks when it comes time to dump the
3:42 oil I'd recommend changing into clothes that you don't care about assuming you
3:46 haven't already mineral oil can be very difficult to get out of clothing and
3:50 again if you haven't already I'd recommend removing any Jewelery and
3:54 throwing on some gloves because it is about to get messy now to be clear
3:58 mineral oil is isn't particularly harmful and is actually present in many
4:03 cosmetics and household items not to mention its usefulness as a laxative but
4:07 it's extremely slippery so getting it all over yourself isn't recommended
4:11 either find a musly armed young gentleman to help you avoid throwing out
4:16 your back while you pour out the oil into your collection Basin for step six
4:21 now that the Tank's empty we can get a better look at the damage while our
4:26 earlier inspection of the leak revealed that the oil was only seeping out at the
4:30 very bottom there are actually numerous hairline fractures in the adhesive
4:35 holding together The Joint at the back of our tank these were probably caused
4:40 by the vibration from transporting the system in the back of a U-Haul so I
4:45 forgot for a minute that I should be driving really really slow cuz things
4:48 are only somewhat secured in the back look
4:53 at this guy not letting me in what a
4:57 jackass so it's time to patch them up as as best we can with the repair guide
5:01 that was sent to me by John from Puget one wipe down the surfaces to be
5:06 repaired there's no need to get every last bit of oil off mineral is actually
5:09 what they use to clean the surfaces before welding but in our case because
5:14 there was no single obvious crack I
5:17 actually needed to clean it quite well to see what was going on two if you can
5:22 identify the crack drill a small hole like the smallest bit you have at the
5:26 edges of the crack to keep it from spreading any further for us however
5:31 because these micro cracks are actually between the overlapped pieces of the
5:35 main tank we're just going to have to rely on the wicking abilities of our
5:39 Weldon acrylic adhesive to fill in those gaps next well we apply the acrylic
5:44 adhesive with the application bottle and needle then leave that for an hour to
5:49 cure finally we apply this completely
5:54 not dangerous sounding stuff over the
5:57 cracked area the same way that you would apply cocking to uh a seal in your
6:02 bathroom then allow it 24 hours to cure
6:05 step seven is to come back to it the next day and just kind of visually
6:09 inspect our cocking along the bottom and up the seam in the middle make sure it
6:13 seems like it's evenly distributed and then once that's done all that's left is
6:17 the usual you know oil PC stuff so we
6:20 were able to put the Rocks back in uh spreading them out and then basically
6:24 just dumped the oil in doing this more
6:27 slowly would have helped me avoid plunging my ARM into the tank to
6:31 reposition the rocks and decorations but honestly I was kind of in a hurry to get
6:35 this video filmed by that point so YOLO
6:38 and then with that finished it was time to submerge the system itself carry it
6:43 back upstairs and power it on successfully even
6:49 yay worked so overall I'd say that with
6:53 a helper adequate time thanks to my laptop it's not a huge deal for my
6:57 desktop to be out of commission for a day for repairs and with a suitable workspace the
7:02 results were satisfactory the leak is now sealed and oil PC maintenance was
7:08 not as bad as I thought but it still doesn't change my original
7:12 recommendation at the end of the oil PC build log that most people should stay
7:17 away from it unless they want to go through this kind of a process every
7:21 time their PC stops running like a well-oiled
7:26 machine speaking of running like a well-oiled machine it seems like without
7:30 fail every time there's a power bank deal to be had on Linus Tech tips churo
7:35 is the one providing it and they are kicking off some Black Friday deals as
7:40 well as introducing a few new products into their power plus 3 lineup so the
7:44 full details of the Black Friday deals are going to be available at the link in
7:48 the video description but in the meantime we've got the power plus 3
7:51 Premium here featuring
7:54 20,100 milliamp hours of capacity with
7:58 three output ports through which you can simultaneously charge three devices with
8:03 a total output amperage of 4.4 amps and
8:06 a maximum of 3 amps per Port you can actually even charge a new Macbook if
8:10 you have their usba a to type-c adapter cable with the estimated time to full
8:14 charge being 4 and 1/2 hours also announced is their power plusus 3 Mini
8:20 with a 6700 mAh battery and the powerplus 3 stick they haven't actually
8:25 specified the size of the battery in it but they do say it charges the iPhone 61
8:29 so we can assume it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,800 milliamp hours for
8:34 deals on these and many other cheero products check out the link in the video description
8:39 below so that's pretty much it guys thanks for watching if this video sucked
