0:07 80 plus Platinum power supplies are here
0:10 this is the Platinum Series of power supplies from seic which is a very
0:15 creative name because it has 80 plus Platinum certification very creative
0:20 Okay so we've got sort of a platinum theme to the overall look of the package
0:25 sort of this like shiny whitish metallicy sort of thing going on let's
0:30 have a look at let me see let's look at this side of
0:35 the Box first so here we see the general specs this is an ATX 12vt or EPS 12vt
0:40 power supply there's the dimensions 80 plus Platinum one of the first power
0:44 supplies to obtain that certification it's got all your usual protections
0:49 under voltage protection over current protection over voltage protection all
0:52 that good stuff uh okay full range something something yep so it accepts
0:56 all inputs whether you're in Europe or Japan or Canada or where ever the case
1:00 may be all the connectors are here but we'll see that when we when we open up
1:03 the box so you can see it can provide up to 996 Watts on the 12vt rail almost the
1:09 entire rated wattage on the 12vt rail
1:12 alone it is a fully modular power supply as you guys can see here and here's a
1:17 little switch that says fan control hybrid and normal I wonder what that means I guess we'll find out as we move
1:23 along with this unboxing so let's get the Box open first and we find a couple
1:26 of things here our commitment to Quality 24hour service I was not aware that seic
1:32 had 24-hour service but apparently they do they also have a 7-year warranty on
1:36 this particular unit here is your owner's manual in a variety of different
1:40 languages hopefully one of them is English oh look at this there's an 860
1:44 watt available as well but we only have the 1,000 watt to show you guys so ah 80
1:49 plus Platinum here let's see what they have to say check this out greater than
1:53 9092 and 89% efficient at 2050 and 100%
1:57 operating loads that is unfree freaking
2:00 believable because you could almost call it 90 Plus at this point and it wouldn't
2:05 be much of a stretch the uh the 80 plus program which was designed to make power
2:10 supplies or to make consumers more aware of the
2:14 efficiency of the role that efficiency plays in your power supply has uh has
2:18 brought us a long way in the last few years because it used to be that uh you
2:24 know a great power supply was 80 plus well now we have left that benchmark
2:29 long far far far behind so we got a couple of accessories here including
2:33 some velcro cable ties uh silver rather
2:37 silver seic uh powered by sticker we've got some regular zip cable ties we've
2:43 got a little screwdriver which helps you install these screws to install the
2:47 power supply in your case we've also got some great closed cell foam padding
2:51 that's going to keep it nice and protected we've got a oh that's gold
2:55 marks off for that seic this is an 80 plus Platinum power supply
3:00 n I'm just kidding it's fine okay we've actually got the power supply itself
3:05 which I'm not going to show you yet okay so we'll put that aside for now and
3:09 let's have a look at the modular cables that are included
3:14 so here we go the first thing we're
3:18 going to check out is the 24 pin connector so the 24 pin connector looks
3:22 a little something like this okay there
3:25 we go it's approximately sort of one Linus ARM length in length and it plugs
3:31 in Via split connector on the power supply side and then it has a split
3:36 20/4 pin 24 pin connector on the other
3:39 side plenty long for whatever you might need it for we've got uh one of these
3:44 single connector to dual PCIe 6 plus two
3:48 pin connectors so you have one of those two of those three of
3:54 those three of those for up to three-way
3:57 SLI or Crossfire with high Hand cards natively and then we've got dual and I'm
4:04 going to see how long these ones are cuz I'm a little bit on the Curious side
4:07 here dual 8 Pin connectors so these ones plug into probably the same outlets on
4:12 the power supply and then they go to an8 pin or a 4 plus four pin and these look
4:18 like they should be plenty long enough at about one Linus ARM length to reach
4:22 from your power supply in the bottom of your case to the top although you might
4:25 need a bit of an extension if you have a particularly tall case with a bottom
4:30 mounted power supply all right what do we got here
4:34 lots and lots of different kinds of adapters so we got a MOX to dual floppy
4:38 just in case you still need one of those we've got a three SATA cable we have
4:43 another three SATA cable we have another
4:46 three SATA cable we have a two SATA
4:49 cable and that is it so three three SATA
4:53 cables and one two SATA cable and then we have a 3 MOX cable a three Mox cable
5:00 and a 2 MOX cable so that gives you all of your options in terms of mounting so
5:05 I'm just going to take this box and this is going to help me as I tell you about
5:10 some of the cool features of this particular unit so let's check out the
5:14 physical aspects of it first so on the back we find the fully modular power
5:17 supply and check this out so remove
5:20 before use okay fine oh oh
5:25 oh didn't say rip it in pieces before
5:28 use but whatever so check this out hybrid or normal fan control so what
5:33 hybrid fan control actually does is it allows the fan to operate completely
5:40 silently up until about 30% load so it's
5:44 actually going to take this very high quality fan which by the way is a San a
5:48 sanoi fan so very very commonly widely
5:52 known to be some of the highest quality fans available and it just turns it off
5:58 because when when you're 80 plus platinum and you're only pulling about
6:02 you know 330 WTS apparently this power supply
6:07 with the heat sinks that you can see through the uh the grill here in the top
6:11 with those heat sinks is capable of being passively cooled up to that point
6:15 then the fan ramps up actually they've got a picture of the fan curve here so I
6:18 might as well show it to you on the box so then this is fanless mode up to 30%
6:23 up to 50% we're in silent mode so where the fan RPMs are you can see on this
6:28 part of the graph very barely barely doing anything okay and then finally
6:32 greater than 50% we're in cooling mode and that is going to ramp up the fan so
6:37 you don't reach sort of 100% of your RPMs until 100% load and by the time
6:41 you're actually pulling a, Watts through a power supply we're talking like dual
6:48 GTX 590s you know heavily overclocked
6:52 CPU bunch of drives this is a very very loaded system and it's only going to
6:56 reach that kind of a load once in a very very very while so cic's also claiming
7:02 tight voltage regulation plus or minus 2% which is way way way within the ATX
7:07 specification so let's have a look at the rest of the unit here we've got our
7:11 power switch we've got our power input we've got honeycomb grills which are
7:15 optimal for the best airf flow okay moving over here we've got the 80 plus
7:19 Platinum branding as well as the Platinum power supply series branding
7:23 here on the modular interface side you can see we've got our motherboard stuff
7:28 CPU this is an oh okay interesting okay so
7:34 here is three PCIe those dual connector
7:38 ones and and then okay okay okay okay here here here here here okay so I'm
7:42 going to explain how this works so you can either have three graphics cards and
7:46 then dual EPS connectors or you can have
7:50 four graphics cards and a single EPS connector because that is the point of a
7:55 modular power supply which many manufacturers by the way seem to have
7:58 forgotten is that it should give you some kind of a choice in terms of which
8:02 connectors you want to plug into it we then also have six peripheral connectors
8:06 so you can use those for your MOX 4 pins or your SATA cables
8:11 and that is pretty much it you also get to choose which fan mode you want I
8:15 think I mentioned that a couple times but I think that's really cool you can go in hybrid mode or you can just go in
8:19 normal mode which is not going to turn off the fan should you not desire it to
8:24 do so although I cannot imagine why you would not want it to do that so in in
8:29 summary it is 80 plus Platinum which is about as efficient as it gets these days
8:33 has a very high quality fan which it if
8:36 you prefer will just simply turn off when your computer is idling which means
8:41 that this should be in theory pretty much the quietest power supply you can
8:45 get short of cic's own X Series passive
8:48 power supplies uh which I love and
8:51 they're 80 plus gold so this is like even more lovable than 80 plus gold so
8:56 thank you for checking out this unboxing and first look don't forget to subsscribe to l Tech tips from unboxings
9:00 reviews and other computer videos couple
9:03 things we missed goldplated connectors are going to give you uh the best
9:08 possible connection between the power
9:11 supply and the motherboard so you've heard of people talking about things
9:14 like where is it uh 24 pin burn where
9:18 there's too much current being drawn through the 24 pin connector because you
9:21 got a lot of graphics cards installed and a bad connection causes the uh the
9:26 wires to actually burn inside whether it's on the motherboard or whether it's
9:29 in the connector well gold plating remember gold is not actually the most
9:33 conductive substance but what it is is it is malleable it is soft so it is it
9:37 has a better chance of making a good connection between one thing and another
9:41 thing than something that is not gold so that is something that I did miss
9:45 another thing is that the capacitors in here are all solid caps and they are
9:49 rated at 105° so that is definitely hotter than I hope your power supply
9:53 ever runs but in the event that it does
9:56 it is rated for it
