0:01 this is so ridiculous so this video is gonna have a couple of
0:05 firsts uh it won't be the first time that i've just like read off of a
0:10 product review guide because i don't know anything about the product but it
0:14 will be the first time that i'll have a juiced up edition phone
0:18 it will be the first time that i'll be showing off a fingerprint sensor
0:23 under the screen of a commercial product and it will be the first time that we
0:28 have shot an entire video on a
0:31 stabilized gimbal setup move it around move around
0:35 whoa look at that he's like he's walking man walk more brandon you got this
0:44 and this video is brought to you by pia
0:47 private internet access features fast multi-gigabit vpn tunnel gateways
0:52 worldwide so if you're looking for a vpn you can learn more about pia through the
0:56 link in the video description
1:07 so vivo is a phone brand that we've never really checked out before in the
1:12 past but there are a couple of things about this guy that are actually
1:16 pretty interesting so first of all this is the first phone that i've yet to get
1:21 my hands on that has qualcomm's new snapdragon 660
1:27 a i e processor in it so it's a i and like
1:33 experience engine
1:37 it was engine all right so let's fire this up it's running the fun touch os
1:41 which i think has to be the best name for an Android skin yet
1:46 and the first thing that you're going to notice about this thing is that
1:50 screen to bezel ratio they have actually
1:53 cracked the 90 barrier thanks to their use of a notch
1:59 which you can feel however you do or don't
2:02 feel about it it's a thing it's not going away and thanks to their use of an
2:07 under screen fingerprint sensor which also lets you not have the fingerprint
2:11 sensor on the back which some people like but i'm not personally a fan of
2:15 it's actually kind of amazing how few features you have to give up with like
2:19 these more value-oriented phones now
2:23 like it doesn't have wireless charging or anything but it at least has nfc
2:28 that's if i could find the antenna anywhere yeah
2:32 does it not
2:36 connect it to the usb port
2:40 nope apparently still a thing no nfc
2:45 so this is it this is the big moment
2:48 add fingerprint four-digit password oh
2:51 wow they've got security questions what was the name of your primary school and
2:56 but central elementary
3:01 whenever the fingerprint sensor is active and it's under the screen right
3:04 here you can't see it pretty much at all
3:08 you're going to have this this blue and greeny kind of light up
3:13 better recognition with a slightly deeper press
3:18 okay well it didn't get me that time
3:23 okay
3:26 so it's pretty slow compared to some of
3:29 the more modern not under screen fingerprint sensors that we've become
3:34 used to it's especially noticeable when you compare this to uh shoot what phone was
3:39 that recently that i checked out where you could just swipe your finger down
3:42 the sensor right the s9 and it would register the whole thing
3:47 this is this is pretty tedious
3:50 wow this thing is actually not that cheap so rumored pricing is around 36 000
3:57 indian rupees which would make it about 540
4:01 us dollars so it's not up there with like flagship phone pricing but it's
4:06 actually not that inexpensive here this is our first chance to take a look at
4:11 this functionality in action you see that
4:14 the OLED screen lights up bright that gives the sensor under the display
4:20 enough illumination to read the identifying ridges on your finger
4:24 okay let me try it again so ran for oh that's nice so it's got an OLED display
4:29 so that means that it can have just the fingerprint pixels active so you can
4:34 actually wake the whole thing without pressing
4:37 that's not bad you know what here why don't we just do like a a fingerprint
4:42 sensor speed test let me grab a couple of other devices and
4:47 uh here what do you want to start with do you
4:51 want to start with like the other like chinese brands or should i start with
4:54 like something kind of more flagshipy like the s9
4:59 chinese brand okay so here it is next to the mix 2s
5:05 oh how do i the sensors are on either side okay you
5:08 guys are gonna have to take my word for it i'm pressing it at the same time one two three go
5:16 not bad it's not far off all right
5:20 pixel 2 xl
5:24 faster but not worlds faster like we're not talking iphone 6 here
5:31 uh is this embargoed i actually don't know uh
5:38 mate 10 pro
5:42 galaxy s9
5:46 iphone 10 my face id is broken so
5:51 no fingerprint sensor why did they take it off
5:54 right because they didn't have apparently the technology that
5:59 vivo has i should do a video where i try and get
6:03 apple to fix it get started face id is not available
6:08 trying it later doesn't work by the way
6:12 so like any modern phone one of the big features is the camera
6:15 so i'm just going to be testing the stabilization while i walk down the
6:19 stairs and i'm also giving you guys a look at the stabilized rig that
6:23 brandon's using to shoot this i don't know if i'm at the bottom yet how close
6:26 am i i don't know okay i'm at the bottom got this uh so
6:31 i've got an iphone 10 compared to the vivo x 21 here
6:35 hi taren i'm lacking stability with this door oh the iphone 10 handles that
6:39 backlight a lot better in spite of the ai camera features whoa
6:44 that's not helpful but thank you anyway so i actually really like taking test
6:48 pictures here because you've got this these really bright colors you've got
6:53 this nice blue sky and then you've got these hard shadows and that's something
6:57 that even with HDR is quite difficult
7:00 for smartphone cameras to handle so now i want to see how it handles
7:06 lower light i mean that really is the main
7:09 difference for cell phone cameras these days is
7:13 how they handle processing the image as opposed to
7:18 the sensor is really getting a lot better generation by generation
7:23 it just crashed huh i never thought i was going to
7:27 capture that on camera since after i've done my review i have
7:31 had a few just random hard resets like that
7:35 and i asked samsung about it and they were like no no idea what you're talking
7:38 about so this thing's got all kinds of tech
7:43 that you might not expect on sort of a mainstream performance phone and it uses
7:48 micro usb what year is it
7:54 does it have wireless charging i guess i could consult my
7:58 doodad here so the glass back is for looks
8:04 um and for feel and it actually does look and feel pretty good uh was not to
8:09 enable wireless charging anyway
8:12 oh man that end screen unlocked that is so cool
8:15 i gotta give them credit the specs to price ratio
8:21 pretty impressive if that's correct because it's got 128 gigs of storage so
8:25 you can take a lot of those photos and six gigs of RAM
8:30 so overall impressions here are decent like obviously it captured the image but
8:35 it lost a lot of detail in the darkest parts of the scene here that was
8:39 retained by all of the other cameras
8:42 even if xiaomi didn't do a great job of their color science here you can tell
8:46 these greens are like these are like neon bushes and then as
8:50 for low light the pixel 2 xl and the s9
8:53 plus were the ones that got the color closest and then the iphone 10 the mix 2s
8:59 and the vivo x21 all kind of land all yellow and have a
9:04 lot of processing and noise artifacts yeah the x21 was the worst in the low
9:09 light scenario and the construction doesn't really
9:12 stand out either it's well balanced in the hand i've got to give them credit
9:15 for that and this curved glass back actually both looks and feels better in
9:20 person than the camera is probably capturing but i do have to say the way that
9:25 they've joined the front panel assembly here to the
9:29 rear casing uh is pretty last gen you
9:32 can see a very noticeable ridge between them
9:37 with all of that said though the screen
9:41 looks fantastic it really does feel like a giant display floating in your hand
9:46 the cost is very reasonable they ship it with an included screen protector and
9:51 lo and behold they weren't able to make it waterproof obviously that's not
9:55 anywhere in the rating but it's got a headphone jack
10:00 so for the price i'm actually liking this thing a lot even though this was
10:04 far from an in-depth review
10:08 i've yet to see where they're going with the whole ai processor aspect of it
10:13 it's supposed to optimize both battery life in terms of
10:16 giving less resources to stuff that you don't care about and more to stuff that
10:20 you do as well as helping with the camera but that's something that's going to
10:24 take time to continue to develop
10:27 it wasn't giving us the audio quality
10:31 on the subject of audio quality that i might expect
10:36 the speakers on this do leave a lot to be desired
10:39 synchronizing audio in post is fine for future films but it's a nightmare
10:44 they get loud so that's not bad but i've actually come to expect now a powered
10:49 secondary speaker up here so you get a little bit of stereo effect at the very
10:53 least man that screen looks good though i love
10:57 ultra wide displays which is why it's all the more a mystery why this isn't
11:00 stretching to the edges i'm gonna have to find something else
11:04 for that man this display looks good for like a
11:08 value phone though isn't that crazy
11:12 even got p3 color space support
11:16 on the subject of things that are great value ting tang is the mobile carrier
