0:00 has there ever been a better time to build your own PC I mean it's gotten to
0:04 the point where DIY enthusiasts have used the phrase Lego for adults to
0:09 describe how simple it's become but nonetheless there are still quite a few
0:14 common pitfalls that the novice Builder and even some experienced Ones Still
0:19 fall into so what are a few things that Merit a little extra attention when
0:24 picking parts or during the building process itself to save you a ton of
0:28 headaches down the line line well since part of the reason that building PCS is
0:33 easier these days is because components are becoming more and more power
0:38 efficient we will start with a tip on power supplies don't cheap out on your
0:43 power supply and I I don't mean avoid a
0:47 well-rated power supply from a reputable manufacturer just because it's on sale
0:51 if you can find such a deal go for it what I'm talking about instead is
0:56 finding out that your rig only needs 250 or 300 wats of power and deciding it's
1:02 okay to go for some Bargain Basement unit with questionable packaging from a
1:07 brand you've never heard of way too often these are made with cheap
1:11 unreliable components that can't even deliver the amount of power advertised
1:15 without failing sparking or even explode
1:20 if that happens not only will you be out whatever you spent on the PSU it could
1:24 also damage whatever you have plugged into it meaning hundreds of dollars down
1:28 the drain but let's say you've gotten a nicer power supply anyway because you
1:33 want a multi-GPU setup and you've made sure that the motherboard you picked has
1:38 enough PCI Express slots to support multiple cards you should be ready to go
1:42 right wrong if you're going with NVIDIA
1:45 SLI the motherboard needs an SLI certification so unless it specifically
1:50 indicates it's compatible with the level of SLI you desire it probably isn't even
1:56 if it has multiple PCI Express Lots but if if you're more of an AMD fan and you
2:01 want Crossfire things will be a little easier for you as Crossfire technology
2:05 doesn't need anything other than the aformentioned PCI Express slots so
2:11 you've got the right power supply and motherboard and are busying yourself
2:14 getting everything installed in your case and suddenly you hear a clattering
2:17 noise one of those tiny screws has slipped off your screwdriver and is
2:22 trapped somewhere in your case possibly under the motherboard if this happens
2:26 don't be tempted to just leave it there and deal with it later
2:30 metal screws conduct electricity so if they touch the traces on the underside
2:34 of your motherboard they can cause electrical shorts that could permanently
2:39 fry your system in fact part of the reason we use motherboard standoffs is
2:44 to keep those traces from touching the metal part of the case which prevents
2:49 electrical mishaps so make sure you retrieve those loose screws before
2:53 turning anything on and by the way yes you can use a magnetic screwdriver to do
2:59 this as the the magnetic force is not great enough to damage your components
3:03 even hard drives finally to round things out here's one from the simple thing
3:08 that's easy to forget Department screw in your graphics cards many gpus
3:13 especially higher-end models are heavy enough to put a significant amount of
3:17 torque on the PCI Express slot that they're plugged into fortunately it's
3:22 easy to avoid this simply by screwing the card bracket into your case but this
3:27 is very easy to overlook which can actually lead to the card's weight
3:31 ripping out the PCI E slot entirely I have seen this damaging both the card
3:36 and forcing you to buy a whole new motherboard which has happened to people
3:41 when their GPU popped out when they were trying to plug in a cable now there are
3:46 some motherboards on the market with reinforced PCIe slots to help keep this
3:51 from happening but those can be pretty expensive so the best thing to do is
3:55 just be mindful of these little details so your dream rig doesn't turn into a
3:59 night so what are the some of the things that you wish you had known before building
4:04 your first PC let us know in the comments I'd also like you guys to be
4:08 sure to like those useful comments so that we build up a little repository of
4:13 computer building tips below this video for people to check out also let us know
4:17 if you'd like to see more computer building mistakes to avoid videos like
4:22 this one TunnelBear VPN lets you tunnel
4:26 to 20 different countries allowing you to browse the internet and use online
4:30 services as though you are in a different country they have easy to ous
4:35 apps for iOS Android PC and Mac they
4:38 also have a Chrome extension and all you got to do is choose a country in the app
4:42 turn the switch on Tunnel bear and watch as your bear tunnels your internet
4:46 connection to your new location which does a couple of things number one your
4:49 connection gets encrypted with ases 256bit encryption encryption encryption
4:55 not encryption it's the good kind of encryption and two your public IP
4:59 address gets switched so you show up as if you're are from that other place they
5:04 also have a top rated privacy policy and they do not log user activity you can
5:09 try out tunnel bear VPN with 500 Megs of free data and no credit card required at
5:13 the link in the video description and if you choose to get a year of unlimited
