4:18 about unwanted apps so the case is actually the first of its kind filed by

4:23 the consumer Rights Commission to be accepted by a Shanghai court so the

4:28 Galaxy Note has 44 pre-installed apps in

4:33 the Chinese market and the Oppo Fine 7A

4:36 has 71 pre-installed apps by default now we

4:40 get it the business model behind pre-installed apps is that you get a

4:45 kickback from the App Maker because they can in theory

4:49 monetize somehow or or it's just keeping

4:53 people within your locked typ ecosystem yes so okay so when it's a third party

4:57 pre-installed app it's all all about um

5:00 monetizing it somehow so you're taking your user base and you're monetizing it

5:05 allowing those app makers to have that as their user base which they can then

5:09 monetize whether it's through microtransactions in a game or whether

5:12 it's through uh selling personal details whether it's anonymously or like the

5:17 more nefarious kind where it's actually tied to the actual individual and then

5:22 what Luke was saying too was when it's more like Samsung's or oppo's own like

5:28 first party apps how many parties are there okay well whatever Samsung's own

5:33 apps installed well it's that's just a clever way of trying to present a better

5:37 value to the consumer um to get them locked into that platform because maybe

5:41 say they like Samsung's mail app than someone else you go to buy a phone in

5:45 the future you can be like well it doesn't have all those things that I used all the time and then you'll want

5:49 the same phone which is fine if you can remove them but um yeah that's not

5:55 always necessarily the case so the problem is that neither company informed

6:00 consumers about the number of apps pre-installed in the handsets and that

6:03 consumers are not offered any information on how to uninstall those

6:07 that they don't want so the smartphone companies have 15 days to enter a

6:11 defense after which a trial date will be announced it's really interesting to me

6:15 that pre-installed apps have have now

6:19 turned into a potentially legal issue

6:22 for the companies that are putting them on because which is cool this is something that we've been dealing with

6:27 since like you know buying a Gateway

6:31 with an AOL crap on it and like nordon

6:37 the Norton removal tool to take it off because it's so parasitic you

7:11 would just run through remove wild tangent game it would remove all the

7:14 ones that were on everything right so it would remove wild tangent games uh it

7:18 would run the Norton removal tool it would do all this stuff and just nuke

7:22 all the things right at the beginning just be like screw this computer screw

11:25 it and looking up that stupid CD key where is it and that kind of nonsense

11:36 there was quite I think I bought uh Warcraft 3 three times and then I was

11:40 fin like screw it I'm logging all this stuff yep Starcraft I bought more than

13:39 OnePlus 2 is going to have 4 gigs of LP

13:43 ddr4 RAM so the official statement why

13:46 did we choose lpddr 4 for the OnePlus 2

13:49 lower power consumption and better battery efficiency twice the B with

13:53 performance as lpddr3 at the same power

13:56 see that one com lower operating voltage than its press rate pre predecessor I

14:00 didn't see that one coming from 1.2 volts to 1.1 volts speeds of up to 32 GB

14:05 per second it is twice as fast as LP DDR3 that's actually the same as the

14:09 second point which was twice the bandwidth performance yeah uh it also

14:14 happens to be the only type of RAM to run on the Snapdragon 810 it's interesting literally the only one they

14:19 could have used it's it is interesting to me that the

14:24 Snapdragon 810 was the choice I mean even though like okay you you know about

14:29 like the whole thing going on with Snapdragon 810 no so basically it

14:33 thermal throttles like a [ __ ] in pretty much every phone um now with that said

14:38 the OnePlus 2 should be pretty big and

14:42 if they decide to build in a pretty beefy thermal solution they might have

14:45 fewer problems than it with it than others stuff but LG and the G4 my video

14:50 of which is up on vessel but not YouTube yet I think so some of you may have seen

14:54 it already on the G4 um I was surprised

14:58 having done zero research on the G4 until I was holding it in my hand cuz

15:02 I'm not like I'm not an obsessive phone guy but like I've spent enough time with

15:07 enough phones I have absolutely no problems reviewing them it's just that

15:10 I'm not I'm not I'm not reading rumor sites so when it arrives I'm like okay

15:15 and I was like oh this has a Snapdragon 808 in it so that's actually four low

15:20 power cores and only two high performance cores versus the four high

15:23 performance cores in the 810 not to mention that it has no support for

15:27 lpddr4 and I was like this is a flagship phone this is a $600 phone are you guys

15:32 for real and it was really interesting because Android authority did a great

15:38 article where they had the uh the G4 and

15:41 the glex 2 which are similar like both

15:45 current generation Flagship class phones

15:48 one of which runs the 810 the glex 2 and

15:51 one of which which runs the lower end cheaper actually 808 and they discovered

15:57 that the the g flx 2 and they could only

16:01 really say glex 2 because you can't say oh the 810 throttles more than the 808

16:05 because we're just looking at two individual Thon theral profiles but the

16:08 glex 2 throttled like crazy whereas the

16:12 G4 took I think it was something in the neighborhood of 6 minutes to start

16:16 really thermally throttling meaning that you're actually unless you're doing

16:19 something heavily multi-threaded which let's face it doesn't happen that often

16:22 on a phone like if you're encoding video on your phone which you might do once in

16:27 a while twice yeah I've done it a couple times but like you know um so if you're

16:33 doing anything that's not heavily multi-threaded you could actually be better off with an 808 so uh anyway the

16:38 OnePlus 2 will not have that it'll have an 810 and it'll have four gigs of

16:42 lpddr4 because it has to is is is phone

16:45 memory getting out of hand like is that that's got to be a straw pole guys straw

16:52 pole phone storage is we should get straw po as a sponsor we're always using

16:57 it I love that that site do they even or probably a huge percentage of their

22:29 life to the point where you can like I have my phone use habits have actually

22:35 overshot modern modern technology yeah I

22:39 just tried to double tap this um my phone habits have

22:44 overshot most modern Flagship smartphones in terms of battery capacity

22:49 because using the Droid Turbo has made me just take for granted that I can just

22:54 do whatever I want on my phone and I'm going to have like 20% 15% left at the

22:57 end end of the day even when I use it really hard so the LG G4 like I would

23:03 make it but I had one really long day where I both got up early and I had to

23:07 work really late when I didn't make it

23:10 and using something like the S6 Edge

23:13 like really using it I almost I very rarely make it through the day today I'm

23:17 going to make it um and using the iPhone 6 uh when I was doing my Apple Watch

23:22 review was actually really tough because

23:25 combining the fact that the iPhone 6 is battery really isn't that great with the

23:29 fact that all of a sudden now I've got Bluetooth on all the time cuz I've got it paired to a watch um I made it

23:36 through I think I think the first two days in a row I didn't make it through

23:39 the day I don't even want to keep using this there's huge problems with this

23:44 thing I need to reformat it for one but I don't get notifications at all unless

23:48 the screen is on which is why I need to reformat it but there's there's other

23:51 various reasons it's not really that big of a deal but the reason why I'm being

23:54 so reluctant to give up on it is every other phone option that I have will make

23:59 it through 6 hours of a day right yeah the Z3 is not bad it's got like what

24:03 3,000 pretty good um G4 is another one

24:07 that like I did okay with but I'm really excited right now about the S6 active

24:13 yeah do you have that I saw that looks super cool it's not on me right now but

24:17 I'm I'm trying to pump out my Apple Watch review so that like I've still got

24:23 a few more things I want to observe about it um so I'm trying to pump that

24:26 out because I will be completely changing gears and

24:30 I will be switching to the S6 active and the pebble time which also just arrived

24:35 so I'll be going Apple ecosystem to

24:38 Android plus something else not in an ecosystem at all and having those two

24:42 experiences back to back which is part of what I love about being a tech

24:46 reviewer just trying these things it's really nice and I must admit and and

24:51 having having that getting that perspective CU before um well also when

24:57 I was a fair a bit younger I succumbed much more to the uh I I call this out

25:01 all the time the just being angry about

25:05 purchasing decisions or people online will just fight because they're like I

25:09 bought this thing and I need to justify my purchase so screw you that's where I

25:14 see a lot of thaty Wars exactly um but

25:18 being able to try everything you start to realize that there's usually pros and

25:22 cons to literally everything and it's kind of just fine as long as it works

25:26 for you it's very rare that we come up with something that is just

25:29 unequivocably bad like just terrible and

25:32 no one should buy it and like the core effects like the like the core effects

25:37 oh well okay what we can say about the core effects is that it's early early

25:42 days for that technology yeah and that

25:45 should just tape an Xbox controller to your chest and that and that um there is

25:50 something to be said for more interactivity with games true it's just

25:55 that that product is isn't it

25:59 no um oh you know the arag or ar or

26:03 whatever it is sorry it's okay the a rag though yeah we might be able to get a

26:11 still I'm very interested in force feedback vest yeah just the core effects

26:56 feels a difference cuz Ed's like this crazy Counter-Strike player so like if

27:03 understanding is he's actually pretty good but I've never played with him play

28:30 talking about you know that college athletes don't get paid right this is

28:33 NBA this is this is NBA isn't it

28:37 no uh so American football and men's

28:40 blah blah blah yeah so those affected our current and former College athletes

28:45 oh it it says here names and likeliness is in EA Games such as Madden and NBA

28:50 live so it's currently awaiting final approval from a US District Judge um

28:55 claims have been made against the NC a ea and Collegiate licensing company the

29:01 nation's leading Collegiate trademark licensing and marketing firm so about

29:04 16% of eligible athletes for the 40 million settlement including EA and the

29:09 CLC have filed claims 24% of the eligible athletes for the $20 million

29:14 settlement against the NCAA have filed

29:18 so I mean it's it's kind of pitiful um

29:21 the athletes will get most will get 1,000 bucks in compensation and some

29:27 will get uh 6,700 or more or at all

29:31 athletes who made a valid claim will receive at least

29:35 $74 and that's that's pretty uh that's

29:41 pretty that's pretty that's pretty shameful the whole situation is really

29:44 gross and really ugly I don't oh Madden

29:48 and some NBA games have college teams or draft boards you can use so so there you

29:52 go uh Nick light to the rescue but the point is that it's

29:58 yeah it's maybe a step in the right direction I mean acknowledging that

30:04 these people should be paid

30:07 for whatever like the fact that they have enough notoriety that someone wants

34:08 were actually rather impressive when they sold it to you they were taking a

34:11 little bit of a loss and there was kind of an understanding that most people knew that like okay the controller

34:16 doesn't cost however much money the controller is not going to cost 60 bucks

34:19 so you buy the console it only comes with one controller you buy one more

34:23 maybe three more controllers in a bunch of games they make their money back but

34:27 at the beginning especially with like PlayStation 3 they were really not

34:30 making money off selling those consoles because they were actually good

34:35 at the time the nextg consoles were like

34:38 they were making a fairly okay amount of money off each console that was sold and

34:42 they were kind of not great and a lot of the better experiences are coming to PC

34:47 and a lot of really competitive stuff is is PC if you think about it look at

34:51 League of Legends and DOTA yeah that's so huge right now the competitive scene

34:55 that giant arena in China um League of Legends has its own

34:59 convention now twitch is mostly PC stuff

35:03 twitch is huge twitch has their own convention now like PC gaming in a I

35:08 heard about that actually yeah yeah um

35:12 yeah PC gaming is rocking it I don't know indie games are huge on

35:15 PC yeah they there's a few very specific

35:19 indie games that are starting to sell on Wii U better than steam which is really

35:22 interesting I mean the funny thing is the big the big argument against PC a

35:26 lot of the time is it's expensive but in

35:29 my mind the PC is the least expensive it

35:33 used to be it did used to be to be fair it used to be very expensive it used to

35:37 be but that's the thing I don't get is that it it hasn't been that way for a

35:42 really long time no because espe with

35:45 game cost and this is this is something that I think a lot of people a lot of

35:49 people kind of forget it's the whole you know what it actually there's an

35:53 interesting parallel to the way that our videos get released now where they come

35:57 out a week early on vessel which is a paid platform and then they come a week

36:02 later on YouTube which is not a paid platform it's an ad supported platform

36:06 so you can watch for free and so people

36:09 kind of are like oh PC gaming is expensive uh you know blah blah blah and

36:14 it's like well hold on a second one of the great things about PC gaming is

36:19 directex is the fact that PC games are

36:24 backwards compatible for years sometimes times even decades backwards and and

36:30 forwards compatibility between a PC and a game is amazing so once you've made an

36:36 investment in a PC you can go back and play an enormous catalog of amazing

36:41 gaming experiences on the absolute freaking cheap like you can whether it's

36:47 yeah whether it's picking up used games on Amazon or in the the bin at like I I

36:52 was at a DVD rental store last week uh

36:56 when I was over on the island okay yeah where I I guess they don't have internet

36:59 there um and so they had like they had like old games on a shelf for sale that

37:05 no one was renting anymore CU does anyone rent games any anyway um actually

37:10 yes so they had they had old games on a shelf and they had some PC ones though

37:14 who yeah so I was just like oh yeah

37:17 that's like really cheap cuz they're like two bucks or whatever um so that's

37:21 a really cool thing about the PC and then the other thing is that I think a lot of people forget that

37:27 you don't have to buy a new computer got

37:30 too scrap trying to spread that message with scrapyard yeah that was like the

37:34 whole point of scrapyard Wars for us is

37:37 like you can build like an awesome gaming computer for $300 combo what was

37:42 it the combo $380 one where we put our two computers together that one was

37:46 actually sick and like actually destroyed a lot of modern benchmarks so

37:52 yeah and another thing is you legit don't have to spend any money at all

37:57 uh what I think DOTA is free pretty sure dota's free TF2 is free League of

38:01 Legends is free if you just get not to toot EA's horn but if you just get an

38:06 Origin account and just idle it they just give you

38:10 games I got Crusader No Remorse on the

38:13 house EA's on the house they just hand out games every once in a while I have

38:17 wanted to play that I actually bought a copy of that game back when my home

38:22 computer was like a 386 or like a

38:25 Pentium 70 old yeah they're super old games but

38:29 honestly sometimes super old games are really good something I can't remember I

38:32 had like anyway I didn't have some kind of something I needed I wasn't super

50:53 I know that Apple and Google aren't necessarily best of friends so I don't

51:04 music control corresponding app on the

51:07 on the watch I don't expect that but you

51:14 that app support for the watch is coming

51:40 playing like it is it is straight up a bad music remote which is one of the big

51:45 things that I use a Smartwatch for and pebble's best for this because of the

51:49 tactile buttons but I can live with

51:52 Google's implementation because the first card on screen with an Android

51:58 Wear device is always music playback

52:01 control so you swipe up swipe right I can do it without looking at it and then

52:05 it's four quadrants of the screen that well you wouldn't have any more than

52:09 four quadrants no matter what but quadrants it's quadrants of the screen

52:12 that are volume up and down and forward and back for tracks okay so it's like

52:17 you can actually do it without looking at it the Apple watch you have to

52:21 actually like navigate to music Control

52:38 they were caught out by the complexity of the Watch Dogs project the large open

52:42 City environment multiplayer rating feature and second screen functionality

52:46 it's a real challenge to create those types of games when they come out especially the first iterations they're

52:50 not perfect on everything and it was maybe a bit too much for a first attempt

52:55 um and says that reactions to watch dogs

52:59 have re to the demo Fiasco so that was where they changed the visual quality

53:02 have reshaped the company's approach to showing off pre-release games so hasn't

53:08 necessarily changed the approach to actually developing the games but has

53:12 definitely changed the approach going to not show you something super shiny beforehand which honestly I'm cool with

53:17 that I want a realistic representation that's why when like oh this was a big

53:21 debate like everywhere was when the Fallout 4 footage came out

53:25 like oh this game looks old oh my God and it's like well they didn't over show

53:30 you stuff yep it's probably exactly what it's going to look like it's not out yet

53:39 shouldn't hate on them for it so that they don't try to FIB in the future I

54:30 NextGen console is has overtaken PC

54:42 they have Cloud stuff coming that looks pretty bananas it's just been coming for

83:49 skips around as you scrub through the timeline like you you'll see like freeze

83:56 going to be using a different codec and um this new workflow that we're working
